It feels like an old German inn. The waitress staff wore cultural dresses. They even have a cute little gift shop. The salad bar looked fresh with plenty of options. I had the Ruben. It was delicious. It does not come with any sauce, but the waitress was happy to grab me thousand island. This was probably one of the best Ruben's I've had. My adult son loves German beer and did not even recognize one I brought that he loved. Restraining myself, I made only modest purchases in the gift shop. This will not be true next visit. As far as the museum aspect, there are many displays. Down one wall are many car models, train models, liquor decanters and numerous other German items. The Gaslight has been an important part of several milestones in my life. When my husband and I got married we had our rehearsal dinner here. When our son was born it was one of the first restaurants he visited. When I was going through cancer treatment those nachos got me through a lot of long nights with blood and platelet transfusions. When I went into remission we celebrated at the Gaslight. When I turned 30 during Covid we had a small private celebration. I pulled up to the order box just as the sky opened up and dumped a deluge of rain on us. I got my order through the speaker and pulled to the windows. The staff member was soaking wet from the blowing rain, as I was also getting soaked inside the car opening my windows to pay. He remained polite and cheerful and quickly got our order out to us so we could get on our way to our hotel. Customer service here gets 5 solid stars. Inside our hotel, we were pleased to find our order filled accurately and even to include extra napkins, extra Arby's sauce, and extra ketchup. The food was still hot and for the bay being wet, our food was amazing. Good customer service is what creates loyal customers. This Arby's location is exceeding in that tal far better than many other Arby's location.

So, when recently in Jasper, Indiana on a Saturday evening at 9:30 when all other restaurants were closed I bit my upper lip and went through the drive-through at this McDonald's location. The guy at the cashier's window was a typical McDonald's employee that hated his job and let his customers know it when we stopped to pay. But, it met my expectations as this is what most McDonald's employees demonstrate to their customers who pay to eat at the place they work. Afterall, there are text messages and social media posts that the customer is taking your time away from. The surprise came when the guy at the pickup window greeted us with a smile and he was actually friendly. He gave us our order and when I asked for a different nugget sauce he cheerfully handed me what I asked for and then thanked us for visiting McDonald's. Once inside our hotel room the shock continued, our bag had the correct items inside and they even included napkins, straws, and the sauces I ordered. Every one of our meals 100% correct. This is not what our past experience with McDonald's has been. But, I definitely had to give them a shout out for a superb customer experience that was totally unexpected.

We were not hungry but had to stop out of nostalgia. Back when we were dating for years ago we would stop at the old LJS on the other side of the road that had been a Japanese steak house for many years. It was always a splurge to stop, so we hanged many fond memories from those days back in the early eighties. The restaurant is new and very urban looking.
