My internet is glitching again, so I'm posting a rant review. I pay $144 per month for 12mbps of internet, an amount I increased due to COVID and working from home, and right now I have 2mbps download speed. This happens quite often, usually on the weekends when there is nobody to answer the phone, but sometimes on the weekdays when I rely on the internet for work and school. One thing that really put me off was that my bill remained the same during the fire evacuation and week long power outage... my internet was literally unusable and Winters Broadband still charged me the exact same amount "because it's in the contract language that nobody reads and is ethically questionable but their lawyers can argue it in court, if anyone ever takes it that far." Do yourself a favor and ditch these guys and get starlink we just did and I couldn't be any happier with the choice. Finally working fast internet. Everything I could do on regular internet but not on winters broadband can be done on starlink. Streaming on multiple devices no problem high speed downloads no problem and great connectivity no problem. Great product with a bit of a startup cost but overall super pleased. Terrible. The internet is so unreliable. We pay for 12 Mbps and get about 3Mbps. I have this documented and take photos when I run the internet speed tests. When I call to report the issue - I don't get any solutions - they just tell me it has been resolved. Um - no, no it hasn't. I cannot even stream one single device at a time. Winters Broadband is a good solution for folks living in the rural areas of Winters who want high speed internet. We've had their service at my parents house for a few years now and it's been quite reliable. If you're reading this, it probably means you too live in rural Winters and are considering either Winters Broadband or satellite internet... Winters Broadband has a few advantages over satellite which ultimately led to us choosing them, I'll list them in bullet point format (because it looks nice): 1) No data cap (at least not one I've come across) -- Like watching netflix? This is a good thing. Most satellite companies cap you at 5-10gb per month (compare that to the 250gb cap that is normal of Comcast) 2) Fast ping (no "lag") -- This is good news for gamers 3) Good customer service -- As a locally owned/operated business, I've found that my emails/phone calls are returned promptly and professionally by people who actually remember/know who you are... that's always nice. Now for the only con: since they're pretty much one of the only options for high speed internet many people in rural Winters have, the pricing can be a bit steep compared to options the city folks have ($42 for the slowest package, $102 for the fastest). But everything considered, for folks without access to cable internet, it's worth it. read more

For this past year this service has delivered almost flawlessly. We are getting what was promised and it seems that they are executing very well. They had some troubles a year or so ago, but they have bounced back nicely and the service itself is excellent. We have been with Winters Broadband since moving to the "country" in 2012. Jeff installed our antenna, and was very personable and provided good service. Through the years we have been able to pretty much watch whatever we want via the online streaming services, and remote desktop to our work sites (including accessing some large graphics files). We have had an occasional download lag, and sometimes in the fall we have more lag time than we'd like to experience (dirty leaves on the trees? what other reason could there be?!) When we rarely do call for customer service, we always get a prompt, courteous response. If you want to be treated like an idiot and be blamed for their service not working, you've come to the right place. After trying every internet provider available in our area, we decided to contact Winter's Broadband even though we are a ways away from Winters. They said they could provide service to us, but that's for from what we have received. We have days where we only have internet for two to three minutes every half hour. When we contacted Winter's Broadband looking for some help with the situation, the owner would talk down to us and tell us that the issue was with our computers (all of them apparently) and not his service. He sent out a technician on only two occasions and the technician was very helpful and did acknowledge that there was an issue! Unfortunately, his employment has been terminated and we're once again stuck with the useless, rude owner who refuses to fix the situation. It's been months without improvement and we're being overcharged for service we are not getting. EDIT: Something I forgot to mention originally; the owner would ask us to run speed tests, which I would, following his directions exactly. When I would send him screencaps of the results, he would tell me I was doing it wrong and that was why the results were so awful. Everything was met with "well that's not what I'm seeing on MY end." this could quite possibly be the worst internet connection worldwide. we get internet for ten minutes before it shuts down completely for about an hour. as of the date of posting this review (8/19/19) we have had absolutely awful connection speeds/connection for two and a half weeks. we have ran multiple speed tests on different websites and they all come out terrible. we can't stream, play games, and sometimes, we can't even connect. WHAT SO EVER. you would think for an internet company, they would ACTUALLY provide internet. I would definitely NOT RECOMMENDED. i can't wait until we get new internet. read more

Winters Broadband - worst internet connection possible - Internet Service Providers Near Me

Can't say enough bad about this company. NEVER delivers the contracted bandwidth, I'm lucky to get half but more regularly I get one third the bandwith. Their fix for everything is reboot the router/antenna/whatever. It never improves anything. They never improve anything. When I whine about the poor throughput all I get is whining from them about how the customers are using all the bandwidth streaming video from netflix and downloading music. Never occurs to them that it's what people want and are contracting with them to provide. Then there's the insufferable emails we get from the owner Brian. He's constantly sending out crap about how wonderful they are because they have had to build this company without the use of public funds. Well that's how things are done here in America. It also smacks of "you customers should be appreciate how wonderful we are for providing this service". Argh!! I just want to crawl through the phone and grab these people and shake them everytime I have the displeasure of contacting them. If they would spend a little less time playing with their stupid solor powered repeater and focus on providing bandwidth to their customers maybe the company would have some value. Strongly suggest going another route if you're in the winters area, there are a couple of options. Another fact that seems to escape these toads. read more

Service has been terrible from the beginning. Whenever a problem occurs it's my fault. My ios devices are messing up the signal. The wireless HP printer is messing up the signal. There is a tree blocking the antenna. The excuses are endless. Their antenna died and it cost me 300 to get it fixed. The fix included a "managed router" that I didn't ask for. It's the most anemic router I've ever had. Can barely get a signal out 100'. Lately the connection to the internet has been dropping out from a few minutes to over an hour. Tech support is blaming it on my equipment. He said that if he created 2 points of access from the router that we could connect the ios devices to one router and the repeater in the house to the other one. Nice plan except that the signal is so weak that the ios devices don't recognize it most of the time. Asked about more power and was told no. At this point I'm considering re-connecting my own router. Things worked much better before they messed things up. Our speed is quite variable and is NEVER what we pay for. You'd think for 60 bucks a month we could at least get a reliable signal. So I'd recommend that if you have any choice in the matter do not go with this company. It's the only option for us besides satellite and the neighbors tried that and said it was terrible and the service was metered as well. So we're stuck with this mess for the time being. We used to live in Davis where there was unlimited, great internet connection through these wonderful fiber optics ;) . When we moved to country side the only options were Dish network, 4G we thought. Dish was HORRIBLE , and very expensive because of its limited broad band size. 3 months ago a miracle happened , we said let's give Winters Broadband a try . The best decision ever. The only reason Winters Broadband deserves two stars is due to the fact that there are really no other options available to those of us who live outside of Davis. The internet bandwidth is poor, and two or three times a week the internet either goes out or gets so slow that loading a webpage becomes impossible. They are only in business as the faster, and more reliable, service providers in Davis do not extend out into the rest of Yolo County. read more

We just switched to Winters Broadband as it's the only decent performing option compared to other local providers and large scale satellite and cable providers. I do think it's expensive but I also rely on consistent and solid performance for work and family. They were wonderful on consulting and setup. read more

I have been a Winter's Broadband client since their conception. I stuck with them because they are a small company and in the beginning, they were helpful and the service was comparatively good. I did all their equipment update purchases until the last, and apparently their "new" system doesn't work with our old AT ALL! Since then, Brian, the owner let their top tech Jeff go and hired a third party. They say they'll call you back and never do. The service was never been as promised in the level I signed and pay for, and frequently would go off-line all together. Even though I paid for multiple users that stream lots, we could hardly exceed two users at once, and service would crawl during busy times such as a normal evening. I will say Brian has hired excellent people to answer his phone, the latest service rep, Rachael is great though apparently powerless to direct any real change for the better and is good at merely placating disgruntled users like myself. I see no recent reviews since the system upgrade. I've had trouble since then with buffering and wireless for my phone. Prior to that it would sporadically be problematic. But now it's almost everyday there is one problem or another. Can't give stars because I don't understand the problem. I'm not alone so maybe it's just an area thing instead of system wide. read more

The only reason they stay in business is because they are the only provider in rural Winters. We are trapped. The minute there is a viable alternative, they will lose 90% of their clients. This is because the service is totally unreliable and they have no concept of customer service. Our download speed is nowhere near what we pay for and frequently cuts out all together. The owner, Brian, always blames the client for any problem and never makes any attempt to find a solution. They used to have a nice, competent tech but he couldn't take it and left. Starting off I paid to put a access point on our property almost ten years ago, service has been alrite until this year. Brian says there is nothing wrong but something is very wrong. He watches managed router and doesn't see anything so nothing must be wrong. Tried calling and talking he pretty much told me tuff shit I don't see anything wrong deal with it then hung up... I called this company, they came out and told me they could install, so I called back and the woman on the phone was HORRIBLE!!!! She said they could install the next day (YA!) When I asked what time or time frame she said I can't tell you that (?) WHAT? She said I won't know until the independent contractor that installs lets me know tomorrow. OK so will you call me in the AM? Oh well, I can't promise that I will do the best I can she said, WHAT, OK so let me get this straight, you don't know when he will be there (just a window was all I wanted), no, and you don't know if you can call me in the AM and let me know again just a timeframe? NO, ok so what about support? I am support also and I've already had two calls come in while I was on the phone with you. OH, OK, well then never mind, if I can't even get customer service to sign up what does that say about this company? Well I am just one person working here and I have my plate full, she said. It has been 6 months since my review of Winters Broadband. I have talked to them 3 times about my poor service. Amazingly, they have done nothing. I explained that even though I have the 3 Mbps service, for about $63/month, I cannot even watch a YouTube video. I cannot easily use the web. I cannot stream Netflix without frequent buffering. They have offered me no solution and say only that when they send a signal to me it appears that my antenna is working fine. The GOOD NEWS is that Solano Wireless has a tower on Mt. Vaca that covers the Winters area. I have several friends using Solano Wireless and all are very happy with the service. I have talked to Solano Wireless and they seem to be knowledgeable and responsive. I will be moving to Solano Wireless very soon. I encourage anyone needing broadband service in the winters or outlying area to use Solano Wireless. Winters Broadband is expensive, unreliable, and unresponsive. read more
