Stopped by this food cart to grab some 'take out' for dinner. It was a bit of a wait, however they had a device which told us when to come back for pick up. Fish was VERY good!!! Will be back to get more. You can add extra pieces for $3.50. Sausage roll was just 'OK'. Smoked chowder was very smoky, must like a strong smoked flavor to enjoy.

Fish and chips, SO GOOD!! Perfectly cooked, fries crispy, tartar sauce flavorful, absolutely will get again. Smoked fish chowder was meh, much too smoky for me. Mushy peas were one of the worst things I've had, tasted like the smell of goose poop, lol, now if this is a staple in England, then don't listen to me!! Lacked salt as well. Curry was ok, I didn't like the fish and curry mix. Wings were good, but just a weird addition, sauce I really liked. All in all, they knocked it out of the park with fish and chips, everything else I could do without. Oh, and the packaging was so cute!!

If you stand outside Auto Zone and look toward Walmart, you will be able to see the Winston's food trailer. After ordering two Winston's Fish N Chips + Curry, you get a pager to let you know when the food is ready. Next to the truck are 3 plastic tables/benches to choose from. Admittedly it's somewhat windy (bring a sweater) and little to no shade (bring a hat). Prevelant while eating is the motor of the generator and the steady traffic noise/smells of vehicles passing by. If you want to avoid this, I saw a woman take-out. Inside my box were two good-size pieces of Alaskan cod and more "chips" than I could eat. Both were nicely seasoned. Not only is tartar sauce included, but I opted for curry instead of mushy peas. As for additional condiments, there were malt vinegar, ketchup, and Chip sauce. At $15 a box, the food is a great value for the quality and quantity. Washing up at the WC requires a trip to Walmart.

My boyfriend works close by & had been wanting to come try this place for a while. They run a small menu which is makes deciding a lot easier. We went with the #2 & #3. They give you a buzzer,so you can wait in your car if you'd like as it is starting to get colder these days. It comes prepared in a really cool box! Our 15 minute drive home & everything was still warm & crispy. The #2 fish & chips was served with a curry dipping sauce, which I thought was interesting. It was actually pretty good, but if you prefer tartar sauce it comes with that also. Fries were yummy as well. The wings that came with #3 had a nice tangy flavor & as mentioned sticky. Fish was crisp to perfection super crunchy. I had the rest for dinner & just threw my leftover fish & fries in the air fryer & they were good as new again! People working there were super nice. They seem to be real popular, as we got our food a line was forming.

Made the trek over to Vancouver since this is the only legit British fish & chips place around. Fun food cart and those boxes they serve in are impressive - great design, thick and sturdy. The service was amazing. The servers were friendly, patient, and answered all my questions in a good mood. I enjoyed the fish & chips and clam chowder. The curry dip isn't my taste. (It wasn't spicy.)

I've seen mixed reviews about Winston's. And all I can say is go see for yourself! The cart is in a super accessible location with lots of parking which is always nice! The ambiance is... food truck, ya know? Hahaha the people working the truck have always be so nice and helpful when we have gone, and I mean who doesn't like a pleasant interaction? Anyways, on to the food!! My husband and I ordered the fish and chips with wings! The fish has always tasted super fresh, and flavorful! And the perfect carrier of the sauces! The chips are crispy and perfect (I like fries on the crispy side ) and the wings are knockout good, idk what they do to them but they are delicious! All in all this place is a go to for us. And not to mention the mushy peas! I had no idea what they were prior to trying Winston's, and I like them! I'm not sure if I'm supposed to dip things into it, but I tried that and eating it on its own, and it all tasted great! Haha I recommend trying a little bit of it all so you can enjoy all the yumminess!

Fish - 7.0/10, Fries - 0.0/10 Limp, soggy fries that tasted of very old fish fry oil. Ate one and gave the rest to homeless dude, afterwards I felt sorry for him.

    Great piece of cod!

Stopped in for lunch around 11 on a Saturday. There were about 4-5 people ahead of us. The service was friendly and helpful. After ordering, you're given a pager to let you know when it's ready. Our food was ready in about 15-20 minutes. Not bad for the weekend! We ordered the #3 royal feast sampler ($17) and #5 smoked fish chowder ($10). Wish we would have ordered the #1 or #2 instead of #5. The royal feast comes with chowder, and the smoky flavor goes a long way. The fish and chips were delicious! Definitely needed more of that! The royal feast was a great first-timer order... a sample of all offerings. The wings were ok, I didn't really care for the sauce, but I'm sure that's just preference. The mushy peas were ok, but I would pass on those next time. The smoked fish chowder was yummy... plenty of fish inside. The chowder comes with a small bag of oyster crackers, too. My only gripe would be that they need some picnic tables under the large covered area. It would be nice to have a place to sit and eat, other than your car or when you get home. Food like this should be eaten when served hot. Would definitely recommend!

Cute little food truck off 4th Plain Blvd. we ordered 1 order of a 2 piece fish and chip basket. The wait was only 10 minutes! The pieces of fish were huge and the big curly fries were plentiful. The batter on the fish was crispy and delicious. The fish was perfectly cooked tender and fresh. We will be back!

A friend asked me to check this place out a while back. I finally got by to check it out this past Saturday. The short version is this: Holy shit! Stop what you are doing now and go. So, it is a food truck. It is in the parking lot of a megachurch that resides in the carcass of a former Kmart. On Andresen, just south of Fourth Plain Blvd, which is just south of Highway 500. Pretty easy to get to. Except probably when there's some churchy thing going on. And fish and chips... you know, I have eaten a metric shit ton of fish and chips in Jolly Olde and Scotland and Wales from years of working and vacationing there. Not to mention bars all over the US and even venerable establishments such as PNW favorite Burgerville. The menu is pretty Spartan - I mean, it *IS* a take-away fish and chips cart, right? But let that not deter you. This is easily -- easily -- the best I've ever had. The #1 - "Winston's Fish and Chips" says it's two pieces of battered cod (we each wound up with like 3.5 or so), British chips, and mushy peas (technically, it says "or curry sauce" but that doesn't matter because you're getting the mushy peas) This all sets you back a total of $14. That's nearly exactly what a three-piece halibut fish and chips will set you back at Burgerville. This is (a) slightly more and (b) a shit-ton better and (c) has mushy peas instead of coleslaw. My only complaint is that it's pretty sparse. You'll note the spread is on the hood of my car, which is due to there being no seating. The canopy? Near as I can tell is to keep you more comfy as you order. But OMG it's so good. I'll be making a return trip this Saturday, and I'm eyeing the Smoked Fish Chowder as well this time.

    The best in the NW.

Tabor Tabern and the Frying Scotsman are my Top 2 for Fish & Chips, but Winston's wins on taste alone. The tarter sauce is definitely a cut above the usual. I didn't know Wings were a British staple, a very good version here. The chowder is a future reorder. I didn't connect with the curry, but it has raving fans. Value - taste & portion - is more than fair. Head-scratcher: how can they be out of mushy peas at 11:10 a.m. the day after being featured on the local TV News? Per another review, they were out of mushy peas on multiple occasions. TO THE Owner: a low cost suggestion: include a lemon wedge in the super cool box! A line 10+ deep forms 15 minutes before opening. We're all counting the days until they open a brick and mortar location. The window gal was super friendly.

Not your average fish and chips! After seeing some videos pop up around the new food truck I had to make my way over to Vancouver to try it. Don't be surprised when you find it in a large parking lot of a church because they make do with the space with covered seating as well. We came right at 11 to ensure we didn't need to wait and there were already people waiting! They've done a great job promoting on social. There were two groups before us and once we ordered they gave us a ticker so we would know when our food was ready. Took around 15 mins and we were ready to enjoy our #2 (curry sauce) and #3 (royal feast). The entrees here will run you $14+ but they will come with chips to enjoy. Now to the meal.... Let's start with the fish and the batter. The batter was thick but was crisped up well where there were no raw bits. It's a bit airy in a way before you get to the flaky fish. Comes piping hot so watch out with your first bite. Overall solid fish and wasn't too oily with your fingers. They're not the largest pieces of fish but I thought they were fresh and worth the standard boxes. Don't forget the malt vinegar! I think on my end I would have liked a lemon as well to squeeze on top but that's just my preference. I LOVED the chips they had in the box since there were cut in a swirl and were a nice in between of wedges and standard fries. Probably my favorite side of all we tried. Now to the sides they had in the royal feast... I have never had mushy peas or curry sauce with my fish and chips so they were unique sides for sure. The peas were savory but I can't say they were my fave. The curry sauce was a nice spice kick to dip both fries or fish in and enjoyed it. In the royal feast they also included wings which had a wonderful sauce! I would recommend getting the wings. Not the largest wings out there but super flavorful. The last item in the royal feast was the chowder which had a nice smoky flavor. It's not super thick or creamy as I am used to and came with a more clearer broth. It's a nice break to the fried items in the box. Overall, really digging their packaging and their menu. Simple but unique enough to have you trying something new.

I came here at 2:30pm thinking it shouldn't be busy. I was wrong. There was a line, and people were waiting to place an order. When I got there the food cart stopped orders to catch up so waited about 15 mins before I could order. Then waited another 10 or so. I got their fish and chips with mushy peas. The fish had a nice crispy fluffy batter and it stuck onto the cod. They gave a decent size for two pieces. The fish however had like no flavor, I wish they seasoned the fried fish with salt or something after it comes out of the fryer. I had to dip fish in the tartar sauce to have more flavor. The chips were like fries and potato chips hybrid. They were thicker but sliced like potato chips and had some soft potato pieces. Those were seasoned very nicely with salt, and you could tell they salted it right after it came out of the fryer. The mushy peas were okay, I've never had them before. They are bland. It reminded me of mashed potatoes but with some pea texture. The box that holds everything is pretty stylish and a great way to transport the food. There's unfortunately no seating here, but you can eat at your car and they have trash cans to dispose your trash. Since they are located in front of Living Hope Church there is ample parking.

The duo of bartenders covering the area did an awesome job (thank you guys!). I tried a draft cider and we got an order of coconut prawns to start. Not only were the prawns delicious, the slaw they came on was soooo tasty. We both tried the social hour burgers. We got them with double patties and fries. The burgers were cooked beautifully and the seasoning really worked well. The fries were a perfect crisp golden brown and they were salted well. I got some garlic aioli, so so so good! Stopped in for our 4th or 5th visit to celebrate my wife's birthday last Friday night April 17th…read more.. The Cove has always been a great choice in the past for special dinners/occasions. Unfortunately this time, we left very disappointed. My wife has a sensitivity to spicy foods. Upon ordering appetizers for the table, we asked if any of them (that had a spicy description on the menu) had the option to have the sauce on the side. She proceeded to ask how the scallops were and went ahead with that order. There was absolutely no description of having any spicy component on the menu nor any mention by the server. Upon her first bite of the risotto, she went into a severe coughing fit :( I tasted it and acknowledged how spicy it was. She proceeded to just eat the scallops. We were mostly done when the waiter came to check on us ... My wife asked if the dish is typically spicy. Response was "oh yes" ... It was completely lost on us why he wouldn't have mentioned that to her upon ordering knowing how she questioned the appetizers. His offer at this point was a new meal .. which was nice but we were mostly done. There really wasn't much in the way of sincerity beyond that. It seems the right thing to have done was offer my wife (celebrating her birthday) who didn't enjoy her meal ... maybe a comp'd drink or maybe a dessert (no acknowledgment of her birthday at all. When you spend north of $300 ... Disappointing to say the least. Upon leaving, I decided to just express my concern to the hostess and suggested adding the spice level of this specific entree to the menu. I reaffirmed my wife didn't get to fully enjoy her meal. I received a lukewarm "thanks for letting us know." The worst part of the whole experience was a manager/owner type was a few steps behind her, made eye contact and was fully aware i had an issue and made absolutely no attempt to come over and address the complaint. I no longer blame the waiter for his lack of concern knowing it flows from the top. We all go out and spend top dollar at nice restaurants for good food but also, for service and the experience. The restaurant has been opened awhile and maybe is established enough where this isn't as much of a priority as it was early on. In contrast, we went out the night before to a more established fave restaurant of ours in Portland (Ava Genes). Had an incredible meal, incredible experience, and uber attentive service. They even went the extra mile and made a big deal that we chose them to celebrate. Ended our evening with a simple complimentary scoop of gelato/candle. It was a nice touch. Certainly didn't mind spending the $$$ for that evening. I wouldn't dissuade anyone from trying The Cove if they've never been (I'm hopeful they just had a bad night) ... but there are so many good choices out there, it will most certainly make us think twice before going back.

Intentionally set earlier in the day understanding the significance of the day. (Been together over 20 years.) When we arrived my husband kindly requested a window table with view of the water. The woman taking the reservation info advised that she would try, but "so busy" etc. We were sat at a half circular booth that was facing water but set back from water. I just want to note there were 7 tables open at window seating. 3 of which were 2 tops. We did have 3, so essentially for us, 4 EMPTY tables could have accommodated our request. 2 remained empty the entirety of our meal. So I just can't understand why this request wouldn't be granted. Waitress we were assigned was amazing. On top of things, refills etc. We got the wing appetizer, cheese curds, and the wedge salad as appetizers. They were all good. The wings I would get with no sauce. The sauce on them was very ketchup reminiscent. For the entrees we both did the steak frites. Fries were amazing. The steak was sooooo tough. Medium rare didn't save them. Our child got the half pizza and demolished. For dessert we got the cookie with ice cream and the valentines special cheesecake. Both were delicious. Overall 3.5. Could use some help at front. If you don't realize you have that many free tables and could easily accommodate a paying customer the table they prefer, it just simply doesn't make sense. At the end, I did ask manager why we wouldn't be able to sit where we requested and there really was just no good reason. It was just a shrug like it was a busy day. Like I guess maybe saving for make believe guests?? LOL unreal. It's not often I would question things. But this was just absurd. Again, I need to say, our waitress was amazing. Food was fine. Just a very weird experience as far as seating. Like who are you saving those seats for?? Anywho. Enjoy!

DAIRY ALLERGY MISHANDLED -- WAITER LIED ABOUT CHECKING WITH THE KITCHEN…read more My girlfriend has a serious dairy allergy. Before she arrived, I spent time with our waiter going through the menu carefully -- no butter, no dairy, confirmed twice. He even went back to check with the kitchen and returned saying her meal was completely dairy free. It wasn't. Someone else at the table tasted the green beans and suspected butter. When I asked again, the waiter confirmed they'd been cooked in oil and butter -- after already telling us they were safe. By then the pork chop had been sitting on top of them and was contaminated. His response? "I can bring you another side." No offer to replace the meal. No offer to remove it from the check. Nothing. We had a show to catch at the Magenta Theater and no time to push it, so my girlfriend skipped dinner and grabbed something at Burgerville afterward -- she had a headache by the end of the show. The food and everything else about the evening was genuinely good. But between the false assurance, the contaminated meal, and the complete absence of any effort to make it right, I can't recommend this restaurant to anyone managing a food allergy -- and I'll be thinking hard before coming back myself.
