Been contemplating writing this review but I'm almost a month out from one of the worst haircuts I've ever gotten. I was given choppy super short layers that I didn't ask for and I am left putting my hair up in a bun everyday so I don't look in the mirror and cry at what I see. The owners daughter tried to fix it but the damage had really already been done. I'm just going to have to wait till the shortest layer gets to a length I feel comfortable chopping all my hair to and once again I have to find someone else to trust with my hair. read more

I've been here a few times now with my kids. We ended up trying it due to the fact that Pigtails across the street had a long wait. We walked in and they were able to take us within 15 minutes. The decor is fun and it is a clean salon. Both times they were super nice and go above and beyond for my kids. This past time I told the stylist doing my daughter's hair to not worry about shampooing because we were headed to the pool to swim. So she offered to set it, apply leave in conditioner (to protect her hair from chlorine) and even French braid once the cut was done. She did not charge extra for these services. It made my daughter feel special too. It's these extra things that make us want to keep coming back. We have never been disappointed with any stylist. They have a nIce selection of quality products to buy as well. I recommend this salon. read more

Such a friendly staff and friendly hair stylist! I came in on a super last minute appointment and asked Erika if she could retouch my color because my previous stylist did a terrible job and she told me she couldn't give me a bright color because she only had 2 hours with me and I have a BUNCH of hair but she explained what she COULD do and I agreed to it and i'm glad I did because I love the red dimensional hair she did on me. She was so sweet, gentle, and gave me exactly what I wanted. I will forsure be coming back Update: 24 days later and my red colors turned to Brown already :( I haven't washed my hair many times for it to turn colors this quick. Super upset! read more

This was the worst experience I've ever had at a hair salon, and it was completely okay with the owner and staff. For my appointment on 03-08-24 I had Matt. The question he posed to me regarding the bleached patches on my bangs was the tipping point. He seemed to want an answer right away, but he only wanted the answer he wanted, so he was already being irritable and had an attitude toward me. I attempted to explain to him that, prior to visiting this salon, I had nearly platinum pieces in my bangs, but HE insisted on dying it all black rather than merely highlighting those areas or attempting to mend what had already become ruined because of my last appointment at this buisness. He tried to just try to put some bleach on my bangs, but he was acting erratic and seemed careless. I asked him to stop because I was still confused, he kept yelling at me and became irate. He called me a difficult customer, swore at me, yelled at me, and made comments about my most recent appointment. He continued to instruct me over to the heater and slammed it on my head, not one but two times. Im a 16yr old girl, i know this is not acceptable even when dealing with a "difficult costumer". The OWNER allowed this to happen, was okay with it, and did absolutely nothing about it, and threatened to call the cops on my father when we tried to have a discussion about the situation. read more

He listened to me and was even careful with my ear (got it pierced about a month ago) and I thought that was really nice. I went from a two year old ombre to blue/black and I absolutely love it. I was in town this weekend to visit my family for Mother's Day but REALLY needed a hair cut. My mom usually comes here and sees Nino so I decided to give him a try. He did such a great job on my hair and gave me EXACTLY what I asked for. He even showed me how to style my hair on my own. He was great to talk to, too! The products at the salon smell so good - I hope my hair holds up for the next few days because it looks and feels great! I highly recommend the salon and highly recommend Nino! read more

Here is why! I went to wink on a recommendation of a friend who also goes there. I used the same stylist as she did and personally requested him each time. Why? I trusted his work after the first appointment so I wanted to stick with him. I spent years after a bad hair coloring not going into any salon ever. Building that trust with him was huge so I appreciated being able to keep with him. Fast forward, my appointment is coming up in a month. Wink calls me and offers to move it (even though it's an entire months away) as my usual stylist no longer worked there. My response in a very normal cheery voice was I kept my same appointment with him at his new salon. Thank you though! Her response? OHHH HE OPENED A NEW SALON THEN? HM INTERESTING. THANK YOU. And you guessed it folks, CLICK. She hung up on me. It has nothing to do with me that you lost a stylist and his clientele followed. I was kind and likely would've gone back there if he was ever unavailable. But now? Forget it. Don't take your employee drama up with a paying customer who had nothing to do with it. And when I say I had nothing to do with it? I literally know none of these people besides my stylist and he's never been so unprofessional as to mention drama therefore I knew of none. Furthermore, when I called to speak to him about it, both his scheduler and he apologized for their former coworkers attitude towards me. They didn't even have to do that and they did. Safe to say I'll keep my business with him. Social etiquette is so important in a field like cosmetology. Wink doesn't seem to understand that. read more

Ok so I have been going to wink for little over 8 months now. Above and beyond the best haircuts I have ever gotten. Nino does a terrific job on my hair I can't say enough about his work. The staff is top notch too. Reminder call the day before and the today as I was driving to my appointment I got a call that Nino was running behind. To me that's not a big deal since my favorite bar is right next door(just an excuse to get a beer at Tapped Gastro Pub). Nino spent from 10:00-3:00 fixing the persons hair in front of me. Apparently where ever she went previously completely jacked her hair, and when she left looked amazing and would have never guessed she had jacked hair... read more

I can't say enough about Wink Salon!! I walked in off the street desperate for a new haircut. I was visiting from out of town and knew nothing about the salon. That tells you how desperate I was. The staff there was so kind.They were able to give me an appointment the very next day! The staff is so professional. Everyone I had contact with was warm and welcoming. The atmosphere in the salon was so comfortable. Little did I know that I would have the owner/ stylist, Cheryl Griggs, as my stylist! I took her a picture of what I wanted. I know stylist must cringe when someone walks in with A picture of a model. She was great and gave me the exact cut I asked for. I don't think I've ever had such a great cut! It was exactly what I asked for. She explained each and every step of how she was cutting my hair. I have never had that experience before! I love the salon and can't wait for my next visit to Virginia Beach so that I can go back!! I have an appointment in June!! Go and visit Wink!!! You will not be disappointed!! read more

I took a chance to get my hair done at Wink. I read some reviews and they all seemed very good. I never do anything crazy to my hair- maybe just a little trim here and there. When I walked in I was greeted by the front desk receptionist. After I sat down- he offered me water, tea or coffee. Very nice gesture. I only waited about 10-15 mins to be seen. The hair stylist was Holly. She asked me what I wanted. At that time- I honestly had no clue what I wanted. But I knew I wanted change. I had mentioned that I hadn't had a change in like almost 10 years so she suggested I went shorter than what we originally agreed on. She cut about 4 inches off and added layers. It wasn't drastic but I love it. She also added curls in my hair and showed me how to do it by myself. My hair feels so light and healthy now! LOVES! read more

Update: I called the salon a wk ago since the owner commented on this and accused me of never coming in (which was strange to me since there's no way for her to know for sure just knowing my first name) and hoped that maybe I could finally speak to a manager and remove this review. I was told the office mgr would call me back. Never heard from anyone. * * * Don't do it. Here goes... I always heard great things about Wink so I was VERY excited when they were able to fit me in last minute. I was about to leave for my honeymoon and since we were going to a tropical island I wanted to change my overall color to a lighter shade (my hair is usually dark brown and naturally black). The stylist I had (who seemed a VERY spacey) told me that she was afraid to attempt the color I wanted because she wasn't sure how it would turn out considering I had dyed my hair before with box color. She kept bringing up this fact. So I decided to change the plan and just refresh the current color I had which was caramel ombre peek-a-boos. This color was literally ALREADY in my hair but it had been a while since it had been done so it was fading. She told me that, once again, since my hair was box colored previously she didn't think it was possible to do it without engaging in this 5 hour process that also included bleaching my hair. Look, I'm not a hair stylist so I don't know if this is completely true or not, but my previous hair stylist and other ones prior to her have easily dyed my hair without having to bleach it or have me sit in their chair for 5 hours. Since we had already been discussing my hair and I trusted this salon would do good work, I compromised with her and we decided to go with a full ombre that would fall sorta on the auburn/caramel side (since I had a lot of red tint in my hair from my previous box color). Writing this now it sounds like an awful compromise... and it was. It came out bad. Orange bad. She curled my hair and made it look all pretty, but the color was something that I just never would have wanted and honestly didn't look like it had been done by a professional. I left thinking that maybe because it was such a drastic change in color I just needed sometime to get used to it but after two days I called the salon back wanting to come back in and have it toned down in some way because it was brassy and basically orange. I got another appointment and the whole time I was sitting in the stylist's chair (same stylist) she kept reminding me that we agreed to do the ombre. I told her that I wasn't blaming anyone and that I just wanted to have it toned down because it was a little bit more brassy/orange than I would have wanted. No blame, just a misunderstanding. She became argumentative and was saying that she didn't understand what I wanted and continued to repeat the conversation we had in my previous visit ("You said you wanted the overall but then we decided on the ombre. You said you wanted this. You agreed to this.") It was almost as if you she wanted to make sure every other stylist in the chairs surrounding her heard this so they would know this situation wasn't her fault. I wasn't blaming her or anyone, I JUST WANTED IT FIXED. She kept telling me she didn't understand and she looked so utterly confused. It was too brassy/orange for my taste and I wanted it toned down so it wasn't so brassy/orange? I don't know how that's hard to understand. Since she couldn't understand what I wanted and I was leaving for my honeymoon in several days, I decided to just have her dye my hair back to my natural color just to get the orange out of it. She charged me full price. At this point I had paid over $200 just to have my hair back to black. I spoke to my previous hair stylist (we're cool like that, so she doesn't care if I bother her with first world problems like this) who basically told me what Wink had said was B.S. and she kindly put the caramel highlights in my hair (no bleach AND no 5 hr process). I love her. Anyway, I digress... I tried to call Wink to speak to their management about 1) the fact that my stylist had been so rude to me in my second visit trying to place blame on me for absolutely no reason at all and 2) how it didn't make any sense that I was charged full price when the stylist clearly didn't know what she was doing both times. The receptionist told me that management at Wink doesn't speak to customers and that I would need to leave a message. I called again after my honeymoon and was given an attitude by the receptionist who said "Well, I don't know what to tell you - managers don't speak to customers. I left a message and they'll call back when they do." I never heard from them. What kind of business refuses to listen to customer complaints? Just don't do it. read more

I've held off on this review for so long because I felt so bad poorly reviewing nice people, but personality doesn't cut my hair. Scissors and skilled hands do. I don't even need to name names because three sets of hands have left me disappointed (read: uneven to shocking proportions) and one was even the proprietor in my final attempt at hair-salvation to no avail. One time I went right back in to point out all the spots the hair dresser had missed only to be suggested that I was wrong and adjusted to a sub-decent status. My wife went to the same hair dresser when I was giving the place a second chance and her left and right sides were left slightly looking like the scales of justice. On my final phone call after a second hairdresser showed no improvement, I called and asked for my money back and was told to just come back in to meet with the owner. I came,I saw, I Yelped..... I was fortunate enough to book Tori, who is mentioned below by other helpful reviewers. Oddly enough, it was because Wink was able to book my appointment on a Monday that I was able to go to there in the first place. Other salons, which had earned equally rave reviews were closed on Monday and unable to take my booking. Either way, it was a win-win for me because this salon is wonderful! From the reception area to the shampoo assistant, I felt that this was a place where I was going to be taken care of. The best part was of course, Tori, who spent time listening to me, asking questions and offering suggestions. She offered no judgments on the fact that I had trashed my own hair with at-home color from a box and a botched attempt to trim my split ends. What she did do, was nothing short of a blessing: my hair is now soft, shiny and healthy-looking. Thank you, Wink! N.B. I highly encourage others to try the Paul Mitchell Awampui Conditioning Treatment. When I came in, my hair was literally "crunchy". Long hair don't care... I recently made an appointment with "Sassy" Matt through a recommendation of an old co-worker. He took her from bronde to platinum blonde, and made it look natural. Impressive. I made an appt. and was able to make it in the next week. I explained everything I wanted and he did just that. Lighter and brighter blonde. I am planning on growing my hair longer and previous hairstylist kept cutting it shorter so it seemed that it never grows. Matt himself listened and was fun to be around during the entire appt. Not to mention he is super efficient with time. Overall, I loved my color and I plan on returning. Two snaps! read more

For my visit I give 5/5 stars, it was awesome! Dana did my hair, and we had it recolored at the roots, a partial highlight and a trim with layering! AWESOME. However, my sis made an appointment to have her hair cut and styled today. She waited there for 25 minutes and was ignored. She left after that. Ridiculous, and this is in the morning people! I am pissed off that my sis was treated this way so 0/5 stars for that visit. read more

Andrew is the color king!!! I totally screwed up my light blond hair with semi-permanent color and walked in today with PINK-VIOLET locks. Andrew took the time to look at before and after pics of what look I wanted, and reassured me that we could achieve a great fix for my terrible self-color mistake. I could not be happier with my results and I can't wait to continue going to him to upkeep my look. He was super friendly and relatively fast- which was awesome considering how long coloring and highlights can sometimes take. I highly recommend Andrew for his skills and I will definitely be going back :) Although I was too panicked about my own hair disaster to really comment on the salon as a whole, I will say that it was easy to get a last minute appointment and I was politely greeted upon arrival- with no wait to see my stylist. One item to note is that they do not accept tips on credit card, so make sure to bring cash! read more

Based on Yelp reviews, I called and asked for Meghan. Note- she doesn't work here anymore, lol! Instead they suggested Nino to cut my short pixie hair, and he did an awesome job! I'm very picky about how my hair is cut, but after a few questions he knew exactly what to do (and I'm definitely not well-versed in hair). I got a very layered and textured 'do that's somewhat edgy, depending on how it's styled. I will definitely be going back. He also offered to trim bangs in between cuts for free, so that's an extra bonus :) Also, salon is very clean and high-end feeling, but with haircuts from $35-$43 you don't pay the luxury price. Ehhhh... this place got great reviews...from yelp...and from friends......that said, i didn't have such a great experience. My stylist (whom I won't mention names, but it wasn't matt :) was not the nicest gal I've ever had. AND...she charged me $10 more than any of my friends have ever been charged! It was a simple trim and took her literally 10 minutes to cut/blowdry. the salon iteself is awesome...very neat and "new age", if you will.. I had a bad experience with a hair dresser before I moved to the area and was still growing out my shaggy dog look when I decided to go short to save my tresses. I checked out yelp for a salon in the area that would not leave me butchered and I found Wink. Wink was rated very high and there weren't any negative reviews so I gave them a call. It's always a good sign when your stylist has great hair, and Erika did! She was great, she looked the pictures I brought, we talked about it and away she went. She was fantastic and quick and my hair had never been better. My hair has grown out now and it's time for a new cut, I won't go anywhere but Wink. Ask for Erika on The Other Side, she's great. But I don't think you'd be disappointed with anyone there. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is eclectic and the Other Side offers a grungier atmosphere with louder music....great! read more

I'm a military wife and move every 3 years, so I have to change hair stylist a lot. I'm somewhat socially awkward so going to new salons is awkward. Not at Wink! I first called and told the receptionist I had a vague idea of what I wanted( this was Dec. 2017) He set me up with Maggie for a consult that day! When I arrived he was so friendly and made me feel so comfortable. I met with Maggie and told her what wanted( I was a blonde and wanted to go white with an undercut) She was honest and explained it would take a few sessions to get the color. She also referred me to another guy who works there for my undercut. Nino, cause he's the best! I've been coming here for about 9 months band absolutely love it! I have been here twice, the first time I saw Matt (maybe 6 months ago) who gave me a great cut and hi light it was exactly what I wanted- however it was extremely pricey! 130$? Really! 1/3 of my hair was hilighted? Looked great though. The second time I saw Debbie (last month) and I had the most awful service she did not listen to me at all and again I paid 160$ and had an extra charge on my bill. Extra color?? (My hair is mid length and I got hi lights and a cut again) not sure why I was charged for extra color and not the first time?
