I've been here twice before & never had an issue but that all changed Saturday. If you book an appointment with Amelia be prepared for the random charges & extreme unprofessionalism you will endure. I called Friday wanting to schedule a weekend appointment for a silk press. An appointment was available for Saturday at 1230 pm with Amelia. I took that slot & made my 20$ deposit. I then received a txt saying she had an 1130am instead, GREAT! Even better. So Saturday comes, I arrive ON TIME for my 1130am appointment....I sit and wait for one full hour until she starts my hair at 1230. I should've walked out after waiting 1 full hour but I stayed so anyways She tells me to go to the bowl & starts washing my hair. While she's washing my hair she tells me she will be doing a steam treatment because of the shedding my hair is having due to coming out of braids, ok. I get the steam treatment, then under the dryer. Now I'm back in her chair & this is where is gets interesting! Ms.unprofessional starts detangling my hair & then tells me it will be 1$ per minute because my hair is very tangled. Now any other stylist I've ever been to makes sure to detangle or at the very least touch the clients hair BEFORE they start to process. She also tells me due to the density of my hair it will be an extra change because it takes her more time to do. NEVER im my life have I heard that stupid line before. My hair is manageable & actually very easy to do for experienced stylist. Now im questioning her because the price I was told over the phone ( 75$) has sky rocketed up to 115$!!!!! HOW ?! She claims the person that makes the appointments told me the wrong price & im a new client blah blah blah. Well if that's the case why wasn't any of this explained BEFORE she started the process ? By this time im mad because you're obviously trying to get more money out of me, if you're broke just say. No need to lie to clients. After ms.unprofessional storms away, we go back & forth over pricing. This con artist tells me the price is 135$...now remember that 20$ deposit I did so really my total was 155$!!! 30 dollars for a hair wash and conditioning ? Didn't even fully brush my hair out ? Next day woke up with a lot of dandruff still- it was probably the worst hair wash and conditioning I've ever had. I went in with no appointment but I did call in advance to ask if I can come in and get my hair washed and blow dried. They said yes that they will be able to fit me in and get it done. I waited a little bit, got my hair washed and then was asked to sit while the girl finished up another client. I waited a whole hour with wet tangled hair and at the hour mark I was losing patience and I saw that her client had at least another 30mins to an hour before she was done and It started getting dark outside, I don't drive past sunset so I asked if I could pay for the hair wash and leave........ 30 dollars ? For a half job? I had to come back come and untangle my hair myself. By the way my hair is between 3a-b and sure I went in with my hair being Not brushed for a week almost two weeks. But it wasn't even that hard to untangle once I went home to do it myself. It took me 2 minutes to untangle it. They could've told me over the phone that they don't have time to wash and blow dry my hair and I would've went somewhere else. I had to leave with wet tangled hair and risk getting sick. However I will give credit where credit is due the two starts are for how the salon was really nice and tidy. The music playing was great. Everyone seemed nice and the lady that washed my hair was also nice. I have recently had a surgery and the lady kept asking if I was comfortable while washing my hair. Maybe this experience was just a one time thing ? I'm not sure. You might have a better experience if you go there but my personal experience was not great and I will most likely never go back there. read more

After a couple months of deciding what hair color I wanted, I finally settled with an ash brown balayage on my dark brown hair. Prior to my appointment at Salon Boio, the last time I had my hair done was over 10 years ago, so I was looking forward to getting a new look. I stumbled upon a deal on Groupon for a full balayage with Lauren, and I found her Instagram to view her previous work and proceeded to contact her to set up an appointment and discuss what color and style I desired. I sent her a picture of the balayage color and cut I wanted (attached), and we set up an appointment later that week. On the day of the appointment, she asked to see the picture again, then she began the coloring process. Long story short, the final result of my hair was a light, brassy blonde balayage that is unevenly blonder in the back and browner in the front. It did not resemble what was in the picture that I showed her, twice. I was at fault for not speaking up at the salon (she had another client waiting), but I contacted her the following day to explain that it was not what I wanted and that I was unhappy with the results. She immediately called me and explained that the problem was that the toner wouldn't deposit in my "ethnic" hair. We discussed the options and prices points for fixing my hair color-$20 for each additional toner and $25 for a blow dry. My main issue is that she knew my expectations from the beginning but did not meet them, and as a result, I have to pay additional to fix a hair color I didn't want in the first place. The following week, I called the salon to speak with the owner, Shavon, and after explaining the situation to her and expressing that I was not happy with the results, she said she would call Lauren and get back to me. When she called back, she explained that because I used a Groupon I was responsible for all additional costs, like the toner and blow dry. I expressed my concerns and disappointment to Yelp Talk, and it was brought to my attention that what had occurred was the infamous "Groupon Bait & Switch," where a business offers you a great deal on a good or service but what you get in reality is subpar to what is promised to you. Note: prior to my appointment, the Groupon fine print did not mention "additional fees apply for additional color," so the fine print was changed some time after my appointment. I was charged for color before the fine print ever mentioned it! This was my first time getting my hair done at a salon, and I am very upset that I was treated this way. read more

This is a great salon with great stylist. Seriously, Lashay is a microinfluencer on IG - she's everywhere! I was able to come in earlier than my scheduled time due to scheduling issues and it worked perfect! I'm surprised to know (but grateful) that there's an option for early morning appointments. That way I can be seen and out the door in enough time to get to work without being late! The salon is really clean, spacious, and pleasant. This salon is beautiful, modern, and spacious. They do everything here. Not only do they cut and style hair, they also offer eye brows, teeth whitening, weight loss treatment and pedicure manicure. The location is a little tucked away off of Hoggard st.. in Norfolk on the same road as ToysRus. They are right beside the Ichiran ramen restaurant. The salon is new and very updated, and I really love the set up and the blow dryer chairs.. never seen so many of them in one salon. I've never gotten my nails done here but I hear the woman that does it is one of the best by far. Recommended by Lauren my hairstylist. There is so much to offer at this salon. I come here mainly to get my hair done by Lauren. I can't trust anyone to style and color my hair like the way she does it. She made my hair a wonderful red with copper tones..she just toned my hair since my reds were fading. my balayage hair is on fleek.. looking healthy and bouncy. She styled my hair with gorgeous curls to give my hair a dramatic difference. She knows how to make anyone's hair look AMAZING!! I've gotten my hair done twice here and my wife once. She got braids and they came out great. My first time I got brown highlights and they came out okay. Second time I went to touch up my highlights and she dyed only the top section of my head and it came out orange. The rest which was the bottom section of my hair was still dark brown. I also recommend this colorist to my friend before I went the second time because she did good the first. My friend spent the whole day at the salon because she wanted grey pieces and it ended up green so they has to redo it and it eventually fried her hair. I don't recommend the colorist. Everyone else does an amazing job. read more

I went to Salon BOIO for an appointment with Lauren and I loved my experience and my haircut! I got an overall dye job and haircut and both were fabulous. The salon is beautiful, very modern and chic! Everything was clean and organized, which made the experience truly enjoyable. Lauren, my stylist, was so personable and made me feel very comfortable during my visit to the salon! I loved how she took the time to ask me questions about my hair and what I was looking for before we got started, it reassured me that my hair was in good hands. What I loved was that Lauren took the time to style my hair after she was done! My hair has seriously never looked so shiny and healthy! Found salon on Yelp and was able to schedule a last minute appointment with the color doctor. They contacted me via text to know my hair texture and was supposed to also send Covid info. Their new Covid procedures are for you to stay in the car and they will come to you and take your temp and have you sign a waiver. You cannot bring anything other keys and cellphone inside. The stylist was super helpful and very nice. She recommended getting a steam treatment which helped my dry scalp a lot. As far pricing, it was 175 for my steam treatment, trim and silk press. It would've been great to know that upfront as their pricing is listed no where. Overall my hair looked great but it definitely won't be a common routine. read more

I was referred to this salon by a family friend - and I'm not sure why. I went to see Shavon for a silk wrap & trim. I came out spending $125 on a service I can get anywhere else for way less! I'm grateful that she fit me in so quickly (I called her Aug 15 and got an appointment for Aug 18), but I'm sure she did it because her prices are so high - leaving her with very few clients. My hair does look nice, but it's not something I can't get done anywhere else. Just be sure you're ok with the price before you go! Also, she'll try and get you to agree to a keratin treatment. It's a spray that's supposed to keep your hair straight for longer. Shavon spritzed this spray in my hair maybe 5-6 times - so why did it cost me $25? She didn't even let me know the price of this treatment at all until everything was done (probably because she knew nobody in their right mind would pay for that). Maybe I'm just cheap but that doesn't sit well with me. read more

Came with my friend because she was getting her hair done..i came in and notice that the salon wasn't busy so i asked about possible blow out. The stylist went to the back and said that everyone appeared to have left early and there was only one other stylist. Somewhat gave me the vibe that no one wanted to deal with my mane. They had a grand opening , I met all of the stylist and toured the shop. I always feel like I'm in a Destinys Child video when I walk in and sometimes I expect to see Beyoncé haha. LaShay- My appointment, First I would like to say I found this stylist on Instagram and I loved her work. The fact that she had so many followers was another factor in me choosing her out of the hundreds of stylist in my areas. I had read some negative comments but I like to make my own judgement of people and their workmanship. My appointment was quite disappointing. I was greeted by the stylist in the 1st chair and asked to have a seat and that the stylist would be with me shortly. The stylist lifted her head and looked at me and then continued to work on her current client. This is where my visit went downhill.  First, I was not greeted by the stylist. I wasn't even acknowledged by her. She never attempted to speak to me. Second, the stylist was late for my appointment. My appointment time was at 1:15 pm and I was not seen until 1:25 pm. I had read several reviews stating that you didn't want to be late because she wouldn't see you, time is money. So I made sure to be there early so there would be no issue because my time is valuable as well, I came from Isle of Wight for a consultation. When I did get called up to the stylist chair, she did a very lazy assessment of my hair and gave me a price without giving me any details as to why it would be so expensive. When I inquired about dying/styling my hair she gave another price without explanation as to the extent of why it would be so expensive or even needed at that point. At the end of my "consultation" it was 1:27 pm and I was walking out of the door, disappointed. My suggestion is if you have $25 to waste and don't mind being treated like a number go see her but if you don't, look elsewhere because what I saw wasn't worth the exorbitant amount of money she was asking for. read more

I got my hair done by Lashay (TheHairMagician) prior to Thanksgiving. I took off work half day to get there on time. I walk in exactly at my appointment time and no one greets me, but I am told to wait on the couch while she finishes straightening another girls hair. 20 minutes later, my hair is wash. She never asks about my hair, what I'm getting done or even make small talk. I get my hair washed, and conditioned and then I wait again as she has another client. I wait for about 20 more minutes, then she combs out my hair, and places me under a cool dryer. She is now with another client so another girl comes to blow dry my hair. It wasn't a good blow dry. The key to a good silk press is a good blow dry. I then waited for Lashay to come flat iron my hair. Well she was with another client, so the other girl starts to flat iron my hair. She isn't good at this. Lashay came to finish, I'd say that last 45% of my hair. Now I have 4b hair, and you really have to know what you're doing to get it straight. This wasn't a good silk press job, but I was pressed for time because I had another appointment. When I got home, around 7:30, I noticed that I was burned near my temple and also that my hair wasn't straight around my perimeter at all. It looked like it hadn't been touched! I texted Lashay (Her contact preference) and told her that I wasn't satisfied with my hair. She apologized and said that this never happens and that it can be fixed and that I should just come back. I live at least 35/40 minutes away and couldn't return to the shop, and it was also Thanksgiving Holiday, and I was going out of town. I sent her pictures of my hair and she said she felt my hair was at least 95% satisfactory and she would credit me $10. Soooo...if my hair is half done it's "done". No that's not how any of this works. She then offered me a "complimentary" treatment on my next hair service. No thanks. I will NEVER RETURN to this salon or to her. Playing musical chairs and/or stylists is not my thing and arguing with me about my hair when I have proof isn't good for business either. DONT go here! Holiday Hair ruined. read more

I went into the Salon a little while ago and had my teeth whitened by Shanelle. I got say it's absolutely spectacular. The stylists were pleasant and the salon is amazing. It was clean and the atmosphere was highly inviting. All of the customers seemed very happy and all of their hair looked incredible. The stylist were paying close attention to their client and not carrying on trying to multitask wasting time. I was there for more than an hour just observing. Being used to barbershops and all of the wasted time, I was impressed as to how attentive, effective and efficient each stylist was. Went to get a silk press + color for the first time since going natural again in June. While the customer service was great, the texture of my hair has changed completely. I'm not sure if it was the heat, the color, or the shampoo and conditioner that was used. What I do know is that I've been natural before and me getting it colored has never changed the texture of my hair. I'm a little upset because now I feel like I have to cut my hair again.
