I came in to get my hair colored corrected as I just had it done the week prior and was desperate to fix it before my winter vacation trip.
I called in Friday to try to get an appointment in before Tuesday of the following week and Sonny said they were all booked but I could come in Sunday since it's walk ins only. He made an exception and scheduled me an appointment anyway on Sunday at 2pm.
The Saturday before, I received a call that there was a cancellation and that I could come in that day if I wanted to so I did.
To preface, I have very thick, asian hair and A LOT of it -- so I was nervous to trust any stylist that would be brave enough to take on this challenge. My hair was previously bleached and a little warmer and orangey than I preferred. It was also very chunky layered from a string of awkward layering haircuts from people who I assumed weren't very experienced in handling hair as crazy as mine.
I was greeted by Kiki and we had a brief consultation of my hair goals and what I wanted. She was SO personable and I instantly felt safe in her hands. She got a second opinion from sonny and explained to me what she thinks would be a better option for my hair. As someone who doesn't know hair that well, I deferred to her judgement and I'm so happy I did.
We spent hours together in that salon. Her attention to detail was incredible, she reshaped my hair to make it look more neat, soft, silky and less boxy (an unfortunate shape that takes place when your hair is as thick as mine and cut very squarely) and walked me through the entire process of what she was doing and what to expect.
As we were in the home stretch of chemical bathing of my hair (4 hours later) and being right on time since the store was closing and all the customers were gone, I looked in the mirror and was not satisfied with the result of the color. I said that I would like for it to be darker instead which would restart the process of toning and take another hour or so.
I was searching for some sign that she would be upset, frustrated, or annoyed at me for making her stay way longer than closing and redo my hair to make it exactly what I wanted. Instead, she got a darker dye ready and asked sonny to tag team my hair, not once breaking her positive, bright attitude or showing any sign of annoyance with me.
We were in the salon for another hour -- by which point a friend came in ready to meet with her as (I would assume) they had plans for the night but Kiki was working late. Her friend was also another stylist at the salon and both her and Kiki talked with me and seemed like they just enjoyed being there together. I felt guilty for keeping KiKi for so long and despite them obviously having plans that night, not once did they ever make me feel like I was a burden. I still felt as welcomed as when I first walked in.
They were so fun to be around, talking excitedly amongst themselves and tag teamed in blow drying and styling my hair. I felt that they really loved what they did and Kiki really worked to perfect my hair and made sure I was happy with the result.
My hair color is beautifully blended, exactly what I was looking for, and for being bleach for the second time in one week, does not feel dry or dead at all. Kiki made sure the health of my hair wouldn't be compromised in the process.
This is what I call the hallmark of customer service. I am in awe of the patience Kiki had with me and her passion for hair. I am so grateful that that person cancelled today, otherwise my hair wouldn't look as amazing for California as it does!! I'll post more pictures to show off but here's one for now :)
Thank you so much Kiki for making me feel so pretty and being so patient with me and my wild hair! read more
