I really love this place. It's a beautiful shop and the stylist are friendly. My stylist I have been to twice. Tara is amazing and quirky and just an easy person to talk to. She did a beautiful balayage on my hair a few months back but recently chopped all my hair off. When we chopped my hair off I had a pretty good idea of the length I wanted and I was comfortable letting her do her magic. BUT for those of you who want to make the chop but not sure how short this is your girl. She did like a rough draft where she just got it all off at a length that was a little longer than I wanted just to make sure I was ready to dive into a shorter length. I searched for a salon close to my hotel and Studio CK came up. OMG they're amazing. They fit me in last minute and they having amazing prices. For a styling session it was less than $40!!! Moving to a new area and hunting down a new salon is not always easy. I scheduled an appointment after walking down Old Towne and noticing a cute salon near a restaurant we were eating at. On a whim, I went ahead and scheduled an appointment. I was impressed while setting up an appointment on the phone how detailed the staff took note of my hair needs. It is thick, long, and was in need of an update to my balayage. They added extra time to my appointment to accommodate my hair texture and style. Walking into the store for my appointment, I was immediately drawn to the detail and beauty of the entire salon. You could see a little bit of it from the window as you passed by, but it does not compare to walking inside! It was modern, home-y, bright, but kept it's charm for being an older building. My appointment was with Mackenzie. I honestly did not come in with a specific color concept this time around as I normally would. I showed her my ideas and went straight to work. She was very knowledgeable, professional, and friendly to all. The color came out beautifully. I am looking forward to coming back for my next appointment, not only for more beautiful work, but to also raid their shop items (cute headbands, in particular) to take my low maintenance hair preferences up a notch. read more

I went there about 6 months ago and the older lady did my hair in curls. Those curls lasted for days! They were shiny and pretty, I got so many compliments! Loved it! There was a girl that started on Friday, I had an event to go to and wanted like a blow out with some curls starting about half way down. My hair was flat in less than 20 minutes, l was running late to the event but I had to go back to have her touch it up, which she kindly did. I asked her to use more heat (she was using a wand and so lightly) it was completely flat in less than an hour. I will post a picture of the first time, when the older lady did my hair and I was happy (this was day 2!) Then a picture of 20 minutes after the new girls SECOND time doing the curls. Always a great experience with Mackenzie! My color is always fabulous, and their customer service is on point. It's rarely difficult to get an appointment, and I don't have to wait long periods of time when I arrive. She does a great job with my cut, too, and I have thick hair that can be difficult to manage. I've had everything from long layers to a pixie cut, and Mackenzie gives me honest feedback about the reality of what will look good for my face shape, hair color, and lifestyle. I even bring my teenage daughters here so they learn how to take good care of themselves as they grow up. The social environment is always upbeat, positive, and friendly. I recently went to the salon because my usual girl moved and I needed to find a new place. The staff was incredibly friendly! I made a same day appt for a cut and accent bayalage. I told Tara I was on a budget so she worked with me to get the price down to something I was comfortable with which was awesome! Most of my experience was fantastic but I did have some not so great times. My appt was made for 1:00pm I arrived at 12:50pm Tara introduced herself and explained that she was about 20 mins behind. I said that was no problem i was early and I wasnt in a hurry. She didnt start working on me until 1:35ish. Everything was going great. Then she had another client come in for a cut and style. I'm assuming she double booked. So while I was processing she was working on the other client which was totally fine but when it was time to wash out my color out she left me in laid back in the sink for 30 mins and said she was giving me a deep condition while she finished the other client. It was so long I actually ended up sitting up with conditioner in my almost dry hair to rest my neck because it was hurting from laying back in the sink..So, on to the cut and blow dry was great. She finished the other client and it was 4pm. That's when I noticed my hair was entirely to brassy. Almost honey yellow. I asked her what we can do because this isn't right and she said she could add toner but I'd have to pay extra for it. I assume she didnt do it in the first place because she was trying to save me money which I appreciate but i couldnt walk out of the salon like that. I've never heard of a place not putting a toner on hair when going much lighter. I honestly think it was to save me money so I wasnt at all upset about it. We did the toner and it was 100% better. I would go back again to her. I actually decided to go a bit shorter in the back a few days later and she got me right in for a fix for free. I would just say be careful of time management. I will definately use her again though I think we are on the same page now. read more

I so wanted to like this salon as it's conveniently located, female-owned, and I was referred by a friend. But my experience was subpar. I did enjoy being greeted by the friendly pugle and receptionist but that's where the enjoyment stopped. The stylist took her time before introducing herself and immediately commented on how much hair I had. She proceeded to do this throughout the few minutes she worked with me, to the point I was apologizing for the existence of my voluminous hair. While washing my hair, the stylist kept her head up and not looking at what she was doing or at me which was awkward but then came the kicker: she had been double booked and was going to be working on someone else's color job while working on my haircut. "But you'll still get good service," she said. Rule #1 of customer service: Don't outright admit you're giving bad customer service!! She proceeded to complain a few more times during the 7 minutes she worked on my hair before turning me over to the receptionist to have my hair blown out. And to top it all off, you can only pay tip with cash which I didn't know so I tipped almost 50% for a half-done job and being made to feel unwanted and a nuisance for having ethnic hair on the one sliver of time this mama had childcare and wanted to treat herself. Perhaps the other stylists are kinder and more professional but I will be taking my Latina hair and 50% tips elsewhere. read more
