Drew's family has lived in the area for many, many years and they know all the good places to go, and Slackwater is one of their favorite spots for a fun night out. So when they suggested it, we knew we had to try it! We went with a big group of Drew's family, Sean, Haley and me on a Saturday night, and apparently we picked a particularly busy night because it was also homecoming. There were tons of kids dressed up and out eating, so the place was definitely BUSY. We did have quite a wait to get in, but the front staff was wonderful about keeping everyone updated on the estimated wait time. We waited outside with several other groups, but honestly, it didn't seem that long because we were all visiting, laughing and having a good time. Once we were seated, we had a big table near the front of the restaurant, and our waiter was fantastic. I unfortunately didn't catch his name, but he was ON IT the entire night! We started with appetizers, and the Heavenly Hummus I ordered was absolutely fabulous. Seriously, one of the best hummus dishes I've ever had. We also ordered the Diablo Sticks, which were breadsticks with jalapeños and cheese served with a spicy marinara sauce. They were AMAZING. We also had Nate's buffalo wings at the table, because apparently two orders of Diablo Sticks and hummus weren't enough. Then came the beer! Everyone ordered something different. I had a sour, and three other people got different blueberry sour beers. Every single one was excellent. Sean had an IPA and loved his too. Then came the pizzas, and this was probably my favorite part. Everyone ordered something different, so we had a whole table full of unique pizzas and spent the night trading slices and trying everyone's choices. I ordered the Grape & Gorgeous, which had grapes, bacon, Gorgonzola cheese and herbs with my favorite balsamic glaze drizzle on top!! I honestly had no idea what to expect. It was completely different from anything I've ever had on a pizza, but WOW...I loved it! I would order it again in a heartbeat. Sean got the Gyro Trip, Drew got the Cuban Pizza Crisis , and there were several more pizzas at the table whose names I can't remember. Every single one was unique and delicious in its own way. At one point, an ambulance even showed up for someone at another table. Thankfully, the person ended up being okay and didn't have to leave in the ambulance, but it definitely added a little unexpected excitement to our evening. Overall, we had such a great time. The atmosphere was fun, busy and full of energy, the food was excellent, the drinks were great, and the service was fantastic. Most importantly, we were able to sit around a big table, visit, laugh and enjoy a really fun night together. We will absolutely be back the next time we're visiting Haley and Drew in the area. Slackwater definitely lived up to the recommendation, and I can see why it's one of Drew's family's favorite places!
