I started with a delicious rum cocktail and ordered the savory stroganoff mac and cheese, which was rich and satisfying. My son went with the kids' hot dog meal and enjoyed every bite. The atmosphere was a highlight--there's a great indoor-outdoor feel that really adds to the experience. Service was attentive, and everything was clean and well-kept. Overall, a really positive experience and a place I'd happily return to.

I expected fresh and flavorful --instead I got reheated and regretful! The fish and chips arrived dark brown, heavy, and dripping in oil. Not golden. Not crispy. Not fresh. This was unmistakably refried fish. The kind that looks like it was an abandoned order tossed back into the grease instead of cooked properly for the customer who ACTUALLY paid for it. Refrying doesn't make food fresh. It makes it lazy. Complements of the chef du jour! The fries tasted like they'd been lingering under a heat lamp, contemplating their life, choices. Disappointing, stale, and lifeless. And the coleslaw? Bless it. Overwhelmingly mayonnaise-forward with barely a whisper of vinegar and none of that classic celery seed brightness that gives southern slaw It's backbone. It wasn't terrible --just timid and forgettable. Which sadly was still better than the leftovers with ambition, refried fish and chips, I received. In conclusion, Fish and chips is simple comfort food but simple requires care. Fresh drop. Clean oil. Cook it once. Serve it hot. That's not a high bar. I don't mind paying for a good meal, but, I expected fresh and flavorful. I got reheated and regretful. I guess the cooking staff take Lazy Sundays literal!!

M.L.Rose Neighborhood Pub - Taproom Burger

If you're going to put "Burgers" front and center on the sign at M. L. Rose Neighborhood Pub,…read moreyou're basically planting a flag. You're saying, this is our thing. This is what we do. Bold move. So I walk in thinking, alright, these folks have chosen their lane and they're cruising in it. Server comes over and asks how I want my burger cooked. Not prompted. Their question. I say rare. Now we're in business. Expectations go up. Burger hits the table. I build it out, get everything lined up, take the ceremonial first cut... Brown. All the way through. Not a hint of pink. Not even a rumor. This burger wasn't rare, it wasn't medium, it wasn't even medium-well. This thing had been thoroughly introduced to fire and then reintroduced just to be sure. I'm sitting there deciding if I just accept my fate when the server steps in, sees it, and shuts it down. Credit where it's due, she wasn't letting that slide. Manager comes over, apologizes, and asks again if I want it cooked through or with pink. Again, their question. I stick with rare. Let's run it back. Second burger arrives. At this point I'm less diner, more detective. Cut into it... and somehow, impressively, we have achieved the exact same result. Brown. Uniform. Committed. If consistency is the goal, congratulations, mission accomplished. Manager sees it this time. Offers a third try. I decline. I'm not here for a burger trilogy. I tell her I'll eat it as-is and we can all move forward with our lives. But wait, there's more. My colleague orders the bacon cheeseburger. Key word here being bacon. Not implied. Not optional. Literally in the name. Burger shows up... no bacon. At this point I'm starting to think the menu is more of a suggestion than a contract. Look, I don't get it. If you're going to ask how a burger should be cooked, cook it that way. If a burger has bacon in the name, maybe... include the bacon. Just a thought. Now to be fair, the fries were actually good. Crispy, seasoned, showed up and did their job like professionals. And the front of house staff tried. You could see the effort. They cared, they responded, they did everything they could to fix what was coming out of the kitchen. So here's where I land. Three stars overall for service, effort, and fries that understood the assignment. The kitchen gets one star. Not because they failed once, but because they proved, twice, that they can consistently ignore both temperature requests and basic burger ingredients.

Service, service, service.... Had the best server! Lisa was attentive and personable. The food is…read morealways good. Though the pretzel bun is dense, it stands up nicely to the fixings. Wings were cooked nicely and had great flavor. The queso was tasty and was a decent serving size. Haven't had a bad experience at Gallatin ML Rose.

Edley's Bar-B-Que - Cold chicken

Edley's Bar-B-Que

So I was coming back home from my Sunday night hockey game and as I passed what I call "Restaurant…read moreRow", I realized I had nothing to eat for dinner. Or rather, I didn't feel like cooking. It was 7 o'clock and I just had Edley's the Wednesday prior at their Murphy Road location. I was craving those ribs again, so I made a U-turn and went back. Being so "late" on a Sunday in the suburbs, it wasn't very busy at all. Nobody was at the front register for several minutes until someone peeked around at the to-go area and told someone else. As you may know, I'm a man of habit. I ordered nearly the exact same thing as I always do at Edley's but swapped up the sides. Half Slab St. Louis Ribs platter, Chess Pie, but Grits Casserole and Collard Greens. If there's a vegetable side dish I love more than any other, it's any kind of greens. The fact that they had them (they normally aren't on the menu) was a no brainer. The grits casserole was a last minute swap up but I'm glad I tried them. Now, the thing with going late to any restaurant, especially barbecue joints is that the food tends to "age" as the day goes on. Like, your food isn't as "fresh" as if you came earlier in the day. I knew this going in but I wanted to point this out. The greens were delicious but because I went in late in the day, they were super tangy from the vinegar being cooked down over time. They had a nice heat to them and the leaves were overly cooked, but I enjoyed them nevertheless. The grits casserole had a nice rich cheesey flavor incorporated into them. Just like the collard greens, there was a subtle heat that sat on your tongue after the initial bite. The cornbread was fantastic. Warm, sweet, with also a heat kick to them. Lastly the ribs hit the spot, just like I expected them to. Compared to the other Edley's (where I went during prime time lunch), these were a little dry but they had the same flavor profile. Meaty, fatty, and tangy-sweet with that nice crunch of cartilage at the end. I ended up taking my chess pie home to heat up in the microwave (who eats cold pie)?? As always, it was fantastic. The only reason this wasn't as good as the other review is because I came at the end of the day and the food "sat" over time in their warmers and such. Like I said in my prior review for the Murphy Rd Edley's, Edley's has always been consistent no matter which location I go to and that's why it still gets a 5*.
