Like many others out there, I can't watch the Super Bowl without a nice ordering of wings from Wingstop, so I decided to place an online order. When I got there at my pick up time the place was PACKED. They had removed all their dining tables and setup a whole check-out system for people picking up pre-orders. They obviously were a little delay on orders, but I think it only took about 20min to get ours. Ordered food online for pick up. When I got to the establishment to retrieve my vittles I was greeted by the young lady at the counter with a friendly smile and a "Hi, how can I help you?" Since I had paid online the rest of our interaction was limited to explaining I had ordered online and the young lady presenting my lunch in a sealed paper bag. So last night the wife turns to me and says, "babe...I have a weird hampering for some wings!"...despite already having HAD wings from Papa John's the night prior. We bicker back and forth about how El Paso seemingly has very few places that actually serve really, REALLY good buffalo wings. 87 minutes later, we both settle on...Wingstop on George Dieter. And...WOW...what a standard example of a place just barely living up to its namesake. Since we ordered this food takeout, we will only be discussing the food itself. The fries were rustic, tasty, obviously homemade and somewhat reminiscent of the fries from Five Guys. Unfortunately, they were cold when they arrived. I'm not certain we can really blame the weather on this one because this place isn't incredibly far from my house at all. Ah well...whilst having to painstakingly rewarm the fries in my toaster oven was a little more than mildly vexing, I can assure you these things taste amazing once they no longer feel like they were transported via horseback through the forests of New England by Paul Revere. But what matters here the most are...the wings. For me, the wings were, while slightly enjoyable, a simultaneously slight letdown. Let me carefully explain. First of all, the portioning of these wings are excellent. By portioning, I mean they are plenty big and juicy. Or...they WOULD have been juicy if it wasn't for the fact that they were obviously over cooked. Oh well, whatever. I'm gonna go ahead and give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that the cook on shift majorly effed up that night. Anyway, these wings have a nice, generous portion of meat on the bones. And this is important, because I have actually been to places where the wings were teeny tiny (there was this one place on Lee Trevino...but I can't recall the name now, because they're forgettable..). Second, and this...is really important...the drawback for me is when you stop and realize we ordered the HOT wings. Yeah, these things tasted mild as ever! And you're talking to the guy who pretty much hates most spicy foods. But that's not to say I don't appreciate a little *kick* in my food every now and again. I mentioned in my Kangnam Style review how cleverly blended the spicy flavor of their cheesy Ramen bounces off perfectly with the cheese, cutting back a bit on the would-be overbearing spiciness of the sriracha. These wings, however, were nothing like that. There was no kick. They weren't even remotely spicy. What's worse...they were very ostensibly painted this odd color of red. Ya know...as if to remind the customer, "Hey, you're eating hot wings!!" Me: "No I'm not!" It was really weird. Why the bizarrely fake color of red on the wings? Why can't they just make traditionally spicy buffalo wings? This is a minor point. But I was just expecting more. The bleu cheese tasted awesome on them regardless. And I already mentioned how the wings themselves were slightly overcooked. Chalk it up to a bad night in the kitchen, I guess. Wingstop is fine if you're looking for some basic buffalo wings and you happen to be in a pinch. The fries are possibly the best part of the whole thing, so be sure not to miss out on those. But whatever you do, stay far, FAR away from the boneless wings. I actually ordered these a LONG time ago when I lived in El Paso the second time and...let's just say they were incredibly, unbelievably greasy and disgusting! (don't ask! just...don't.) But that's all in the past and when it comes to Wingstop on George Dieter, I'm perfectly comfortable with giving them 3 mildly spicy buffalo drum sticks covered in bleu cheese out of 5. read more

I've had some of the most delicious and some of the worst wings in El Paso from the same place! While the wings are unreliable, Wingstop is not wholly unredeemable, for instance the fries here are frickin' awesome all the time, and the boneless wings are pretty good, it helps that you can get boneless wings for $0.60 on Mondays and Tuesdays. My favorite sauces are cajun and lemon pepper, though I haven't really disliked any of them. Take out is the way to go here, the place is small, way too hot, and they only have a tiny TV. Everytime I go to this location, I regret it. The last time we went, there was hardly anyone there and the people that were there had already been served.
