Gwada Soul is one of those places where you sit down hungry, order a little bit of everything, and still leave impressed. I took friends with me and we ordered across the menu. The full appetizer plate, plates for the table, and the Big Back platter. The food itself is what really stands out. Everything is deeply seasoned without being heavy. The highest praise I can give is that nothing is too sweet. That balance tells you the kitchen knows exactly what it's doing. The fried food deserves real credit. The batter is light and airy even though it's fried, and you can taste that it's their own custom cornmeal blend. The okra was a standout. Not slimy, not mushy, held its shape, perfectly fried. That alone tells me they know their technique. The gravy with the cornbread is unreal. The kind you keep dipping into even after you're full. Comfort food done correctly, not rushed, not lazy. The blackened pork chop was loaded with butter. Full transparency, the first one leaned a little dry, but they immediately made it right and sent another without hesitation. Eat that pork chop hot and fresh. It's not a dish you let sit while taking photos. The plantains were different from the Puerto Rican style I'm used to, but they worked well as a contrast bite to all the fried food. Sauces were excellent. I kept going back to the hot sauce without thinking about it. Dessert deserves its own paragraph. The Nutella beignets were the best thing I ate all week. Light, not overly sweet, just right. The rum cake was also excellent and balanced. I also appreciated the little things. The tables have rounded edges, which meant the kids weren't bumping their heads every five minutes. That kind of detail matters when you're eating with a group and trying to relax. Service was warm and genuinely kind. Everyone wanted you to leave happy. Quick heads up. Parties over four get an automatic 18% gratuity. They do have silverware, and they're happy to give you to go boxes. You will need them. The unisex bathroom even had a really nice corner mirror setup. Clean, thoughtful, and clearly intentional. Not something you expect to notice, but I did. The lemon sweet tea is dangerously good. Unlimited refills, and we literally drank the last batch. This spot is tucked away inside a plaza behind the garage and easy to miss if you're not paying attention. Make the turn when you see it or you'll pass it and have to loop back. For three adults and three kids, we were right around $100 including tip, and still walked out with a ton of leftovers between all of us. Even without a couple items being comped, it would still be an excellent value. Generous portions, thoughtful cooking, and food that actually tastes like someone cared while making it. Go hungry. If I could give it a 10 star I would lol this place was exactly what we were told it would be! The food is amazing! We had the catfish with Mac and cheese and candied yams... and the Big Back Bowl and everything was delicious! Made fresh, seasoned perfectly and the service was outstanding! Food came out within 20 min! The restaurant is clean, and well decorated. For the amount of food we got, the pricing was very reasonable! Ohhhh and the banana pudding, OMG! The best! We had seen Gwada Soul on social media and finally made it there today Our waitress, Sylvia, was very sweet. I had the fried shrimp and the corn bread batter was light and flavorful. I knew I had to check this spot out After looking up Caribbean and soul food restaurants to in El Paso. Once I came across this establishment and read some of the reviews I was off to dinner. While I was for mentioned that this was there soft opening. And at the service may not be the fastest at the moment I was very happy with what I ultimately waited on. The food was great quality, the servers and staff were nice and the chef was cool too. The amount that I paid for my fried okra, fried catfish bites, and oxtail and Gouda grits was very reasonable for the serving size given the flavor of those oxtail and the gravy on top of the savory grits was phenomenal. I will definitely be back to try more of that and other items on the menu. The establishment was clean And music was good as well. I recommend others to come out and try out this restaurant and leave your feedback, and have some patience. read more

How does this place only have one review?! Gwada Soul is a gem! Current food truck located next to Paper Tiger. My party tried Karah's Fried Catfish, jumbo shrimp, and Fried Chicken Tenders, paired with the following sides: mac & cheese, seasoned rice, plantains, cheesy grits with gravy, and collard greens. Everything was delicious. The quality and flavors were spot on, and the portions were generous. Be prepared to wait a bit as everything is made fresh to order and it's well worth it. Chef was slammed with orders and he took the time to call up each customer, review orders, and showed each plate before bagging it up. That personal touch and great service. Highly recommend. The fried and blackened cat fish was the best I've ever eaten along with the collard greens. My wife ordered the roasted chicken along with sides like collard greens and candied yams. Came during soft opening on their very first weekend and everything was amazing! There was a bit of a wait but it was completely understandable due to the high volume of people and the fact that this was just a soft opening. The staff was incredibly kind and apologetic about the wait! When the food did come, it was absolutely worth it! I got the big back plate with ox tail, catfish, shrimp, and fried chicken with the side of Mac & cheese and seasoned rice. Every single thing on my plate was absolutely delicious! The oxtail was perfect, the shrimp were HUGE, the catfish was flavorful, and the chicken was so juicy! The Mac tasted home cooked and homy, and the rice was just seasoned enough to pair with all that flavor!
