Room was clean. Saw no signs of bed bugs. Bathroom was clean. Room smelled a bit damp and musty even though the AC was running. Breakfast area was clean, but workers were slow to replenish when items ran out and they handled food without gloves. One morning several outlets were out which impacted the toasters and pancake maker. Discovered later that the African American worker knew what the problem was because it had happened before, but was in no hurry to reset the breaker which meant about a 25 minutes impact to the room full of guests waiting to eat. read more

The staff was very accommodating and the location was close to all your needs and wants: food, fun, business, shopping, main roads, etc. They also had free internet and coffee and a good gym to get a full body workout in. The room was spacious and clean and I wish I could have took the bed home with me. read more

I was very happy with my stay here. The staff was friendly and quick to offer help at every turn. The gym had workout suggestions to best utilize the area and my room had a very nice sized TV. There was a pond next to eat with fish you could feed and a deck you could watch the sunset on if you fancied. The guests weren't too loud. There was also a mall basically across the street with plenty to do to kill time when I felt like being out of my room. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area. read more

My first time here. Seamless check in. Nice lobby. Accessible snacks by front desk. The room (227) was nice. There was a small TV in the bathroom. And large TV's in sitting room and bedroom. Overlooks water with fountain-very nice. Shower doesn't fully turn into a shower-most of it does, but some of the water still pours out the tub spout. When I went to bed the mattress gave way to the BOXSPRING! Um, YIKES. I had to crawl to other side of bed. It was comfortable on that side. Pillows were good. The coffee pot had leftover water in it from previous person (ew), and coffee pot & tray were very dusty. And it was very messy. I didn't eat their free breakfast. I stayed 2 nights. They replenished my towels, but not my shampoo/conditioner or other toiletries. (Mmhh...) This place is nicer than a previous hotel I stayed in here in Appleton, but not "awesome." read more

This was such a great surprise! We stayed here last spring from Sunday-Tuesday and it was so lovely! The room was large and clean (we had a bunk bed suite) and so reasonably priced. It was quiet on Monday so my kids had the nice pool all to themselves! There was also a little nook where you can buy snacks and things. The woman working was so kind to my kids. We will definitely be back the next time we are in town! read more

This hotel was lovely upon arrival, the lobby a typical hotel lobby with all the usual things. Staff incredibly friendly! Upon getting into the room I noticed quite a few things. The room was full of dust in the corners, and a noticeable buildup on the carpet shows that a deep cleaning has not been done in awhile. There were skittles and Chex mix on the floor under the bed as well as old labels from the last customers clothing. Then walking into the bathroom, A BANDAID stuck to my sock as I inspected the room further. Under the bed in the children's room, dirty q-tips! And some other little leftovers of customers before. I know sometimes things can be overlooked but cleanliness shouldn't be one of them in a hotel. I had checked in quite late and with the family settling in it was quite a bother to move so the front desk suggested I could speak to the manager in the morning. read more

My first contact with Wingate by Wyndham was online; I tried reserving a room through the hotel's site, only to find they were "performing maintenance", so I was forced to call an 800 number. Of course this was AFTER I had put in all of my contact AND credit card info...kind of suspicious. I called the 800 number and got a foreign speaking rep (Russian?) who proceeded to tell me the cheapest rate they had for my night was about $15 higher than online (which of course was inaccessible). I said if that was the case I'd just call another hotel in the area. He then said they would knock off $50 if I agreed to stay at their hotel & take a survey of some sort. I said that would be fine with me, so I gave him all my info to reserve the room. He then transferred me to the "survey" people, which ended up being a trial membership to Travel Advantage! No $50 room credit unless I signed up. So much for a discounted room. On my drive to the hotel, I called to let them know I'd need an airport shuttle the next morning at 4:00 am (a typical time for shuttles in the area, since most Delta flights leave the local airport at 5am). I was told that would not be possible, as I needed to let them know TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE. Say what?!! So much for "Airport Shuttle-Free" under online amenities! They need to remove it as an amenity. However, they did recommend a local taxi service which charged me $18 for a 7 minute drive to the airport! On the bright side, my room had a TV in the bathroom as well as the main room, everything was relatively clean (exception: the shelves in the mini frig-gross!), beds/pillows were comfy, and the hotel packed me a little sack for breakfast since I would miss the free hot breakfast offered. All in all, it was a decent hotel, but lacked some essential amenities travelers today have come to expect. I personally would not stay there again; other nicer options are available!! read more

There was no one at the front desk when I checked it, and it took 3-5 minutes for anyone to surface (since I'm not the 'you-hoo' type, and decided to patiently wait at the counter.) Once the desk clerk appeared, he was very friendly and efficient. The room I stayed in was clean and fresh, and the bed was very comfortable. In the evening hours, the hall was a bit noisy, and my door seemed to rattle in the door jam when other doors in the hall were closed, despite mine being locked, but after 730-8p, everything quieted down, and I had a peaceful evening. While there were minor things (like hallway noise) that I think could have been better, the overall stay and experience I had was great! I was only here for one night for work travel, but I can confidently say that this is where I'll be staying for my next trip to Appleton! read more

I stayed at the Wingate hotel recently and I fully endorse my 5 star rating. I stayed in a single, king bedroom and was beyond pleased with everything. The room was very large. It had a very spacious living area that included a beverage area with mini fridge, sink, and overhanging lights. It had several work spaces with plenty of outlets and modern lighting that allowed me to spread out my work accessories (computer, legal pads, notes etc.). The furniture and bed were very comfortable and new. There was also plenty of extra pillows in the closet just incase the 6 already on the bed weren't enough. There was another room, separated by two glass doors that had a large jacuzzi tub, a gas powered fireplace, additional furniture, tv, and a 180 degree view of the outside with the large bay windows. These windows gave my room plenty of natural lighting when I wanted it and the blackout shades came in handy when I needed to take a quick nap to recharge during the day. The bathroom was very clean. The shower was large and had plenty of hot water and great pressure as well with multiple shower-head settings. There was also a tv in the bathroom that made showering all the more fun. The staff was extremely friendly and engaging. They were always smiling when I walked in or out of the hotel and would be sure the say "good morning" every time I went downstairs to grab my morning cup of coffee. I had a coffee maker in the room but preferred to take the walk to the main lobby just to see some friendly faces. The continental breakfast the first day included plenty of fruits, pastries, waffles, biscuits and gravy (delicious! I hadn't had biscuits and gravy in quite a while), sausage patties, hot coffee, orange juice, and other delightful foods as well. The second day the breakfast had fluffy eggs, sausage links, plenty of other pastries, fruits, and other breakfast/brunch items. All in all, this was one of the best experiences I've had at a hotel. I was over 500 miles away from where I live but I felt right at home at Wingate in Appleton. Thanks Again to the staff. I highly recommend any traveling business person to stay here or any families as well. Oh! And they had a great pool and workout facility! So many incredible accommodations at this hotel. read more

Bad. The lobby lies, when you first walk in to the windgate, everything looks right. Quite nice actually. Which is the opposite of the rooms. When laying down on the bed one could already feel the springs. The kids bedroom with 2 bunk beds were also horrible, and had a weird smell to them, and felt like a cot you'd find in a old cabin. The shower was definitely not pleasant either, very loud and annoying. We are here for a state basketball tournament, which requires leaving quite early in the morning. Yet, the staff team has breakfast starting at 7. We asked for a earlier breakfast and they said they would have it ready for 6:45, but wasn't ready until, i bet you wont guess, 7. Breakfast wasn't any good either. They had the below standard egg with chemical tasting sausage, the waffles were surprisingly normal. They also had one type of muffin, and one type of plain donut. Little packs of cereal which were the best thing on the menu, and yogurt. Not even any fruit, not even an apple. It would have been worth walking around the fake river and jumping the barbed wire fence to get to the Kwik trip. Thankfully were left at 7:10, and don't have to go back. Booked this place as a last minute stay as I needed a stopping point between Northern Wisconsin and my drive back down to Chicago. Booked through Expedia for $99/night, saw that it offered a free breakfast, and picked it over the Country Inn & Suites because it was a little cheaper (but next time I'll know better). Overall, the place was clean, lobby and rooms, but did have a few issues. Did not realize this was an energy efficient type hotel where the AC won't kick in until it recognizes that someone is in the room. First checked in, I turned down the AC thinking it wasn't low enough. Left to meet some family for dinner, and when I came back the room was still broiling hot and humid. Trucked back downstairs with all my luggage on one of those carts - was told by the front desk lady that I had to wait about 20 minutes for the room to cool down. Fine - did that and it did eventually cool down, but they should really have a work around for that on the hotter days - not comfortable waiting for a room to cool down. Next, my LO wanted to watch TV. Tried to turn it on, no luck. Instead of just calling the front desk, I troubleshooted it myself and found that one of the cables into the TV was lose. Not a huge hassle, but did involve moving the TV stand - cleaning crew should really make sure everything works. And lastly, in the middle of the night, had to use the bathroom, and found that the trash can in there was completely full - from the prior occupants! All 2-3 things kind of made this place to me a "not coming back here" hotel, and I would not recommend it. I would say however, the breakfast area was pretty well set up, and they were constantly restocking items up until 9am. That was about the only plus to this place. Next time, if need be, I'll be staying at the County Inn & Suites. read more

My husband and I recently stayed here for our anniversary. We had an issue with our room during our stay. Besides this, the staff was extremely friendly, and we were blown away by their customer service. After speaking with the hotel manager, they went above and beyond to have us try their hotel a second time. We were blown away! The cleanliness, the staff sincerity, and the amenities were amazing. They even offer a shuttle service & happy hour during the week! We stayed during a blizzard, and the serene view and relaxing pool area were beyond expectation, as well as the whirlpool suite! Definitely going to be coming back, and more than appreciative of their staff and eagerness to have customer service that surpasses most places now days. read more
