wings and spare ribs. YES they really are that color.
Rachael T.

We drive by this place on the way to East Grand Lake. Due to its goofy name and the crumbling faux-tudor exterior, I knew one day we would have to try it. Wing Wah's interior is dark and depressing, with faded decor and well-worn carpet. When we visited it was nearly Halloween, so spider webs and plastic pumpkins competed with paper fans and lanterns. Everything about this place screams of the old school Chinese/Polynesian food of my youth. Back then we thought this food was so exotic it must be good, and if not the mai-tai's would help. For better or worse, my expectations were met. You gotta love a place that prints "we use MSG" right on the menu. We ordered several hot appetizers: spare ribs, wings and egg roll. All were significantly greasy especially the thick skinned egg-roll. The ribs were bright red and very salty (see photo). All were presented on footed stainless platters - remember those?

Family recommended over the competition in town. Website has easy to read descriptions and reasonable prices. We ordered three meal combinations and an order of the Shrimp fried rice. #'25 and 50 were appetizers with fried rice and an additional appetizer of an Egg roll. #28 Four Happiness with fried rice and an egg roll. 20-25 minutes to pick it up. Delivery is an option, it is just down the street. Plenty of parking in the shared parking lot. Ample handicap spaces as well. Double door system assures diners will not feel the chill outside. Inside the host/cashier is to your direct rights. Plastic barrier in place to give host pick up phone number. Placed our order on the table at the end of the plastic wall. Requested Duck sauce packets, I'm not a fan of the home made. Given at no additional charge. Decor was Asian themed with temples and dragons. I left my phone in the car. My order of the Four Happiness was good, once I took out the green peppers. This was my first encounter with green peppers in an Asian dish. Easy to remove but the taste does linger. Everyone ate their meals and walked away happy. Mission accomplished.

Although they have a large space, there is rarely someone eating in that I have seen. We had 2 combo dinners (D1 & D4). Dinners all come with fried rice. First off, they weren't providing in the bag utensils, or napkins until I asked. I asked for lots of napkins and the waitress grabbed 2 paper towels. You'll see the issue with this in a second. My dinner had an egg roll, bbq spareribs, and beef teriyaki on a stick. My son's had chicken wings, crab Rangoon, and egg roll. I had asked for lots of duck sauce. I got into the car and the plastic bag had been tied off in knot. They had plastic cups with lids stacked up in the bag precariously with the duck sauce, that tipped as the bag was being opened. One did not have the cover on securely and dumped completely all over the food boxes and the floor of our car. 2 paper towels were like a drop in a bucket as to what we needed to clean up the mess as we were already on turnpike. We'd eaten from here years ago and a remember liking it. The food this time was ok. Best thing was the egg roll. Not greasy, and how a Chinese egg roll should taste. The meat was all underwhelming with no real flavor. Beef was bland with no discernible teriyaki flavor. The pork did not have any crispiness or sticky ah so sauce on it. My son said the crab rangoons were full, but filling had little flavor, as well as the chicken wings. The rice was average tasting because of the lacking in flavor pork, but at least not greasy. Portion size was respectable. Waitstaff was friendly. I had sticky duck sauce on my hands for the 2 hour ride home...

I found it was fairly typical in its selection and quality, though perhaps there were more Szechuan and Mandarin choices than usual. We didn't select from that list. They have a roomy sit down area, but we didn't did takeout, which we normally do except for the rare Chinese buffets. We were too late for the luncheon specials, so we selected from the dinner specials. My wife ordered (B), with fried rice, broccoli and boneless ribs, and I went with (H) with lo main, chicken wings and crab Rangoon. I also ordered a small order of fried wontons as an appetizer. It was a generous pint for the reasonable price of $3.50. We had no complaints about either of our selections. In fact, I tried her bbq pork, which I usually find to be hard to chew, and it was better than I expected. As usual, we saved half of the food for a second meal. We will go back, I am sure. I have included photos of the menu because the ones on this site are now over five years old.

So, spent over 30 dollars on 2 menu items, which were different - chicken with cashew nuts and…read moreszechuan pork. However, both entries were mostly celery and carrot, very cheap veggies. The szechuan pork was not what you would expect, but diced up sliced roast pork. Mushrooms were from a can, and not fresh. I was also amazed there was zero rice in the bag, and that there was no mention during ordering that "rice is not provided". A la carte, rice is 6$ for a quart -- I can get a bag of rice (5lb) for that money of sushi grade rice. Also during ordering I was asked about sauces, so presume they are not standard and you pay extra.. I didn't want anything, but still I was thrown fortune cooking in the bag (and probably charged for them). I fed them to a red squirrel the next day. Not impressed with the cousins, nor the value. Two stars as I was able to salvage the dish by making rice noodles in a jet boil in the parking lot and mixing it in, as a substitute for the lack of rice. The rice noodle portion only cost me like 50 cents.
