This was actually really good food! This is a Chinese restaurant attached to the Pamola Lodge Inn and Highlands Tavern. They're open til 10pm which is great for us night owls that love to have some beers and end the night with yummy food! I can't lie, I had low expectations, but the woman who took our order was so friendly. I got the garlic broccoli, and the sauce was AMAZING. I highly recommend. We came back for a second time after hiking Katahdin- and the food was just as good if not better! Love their spring rolls, and their lo mein is truly amazing. Fresh vegetables. When you're the only show in town I guess you don't have to be great. The lady that took my order and brought me my food was friendly. Take out only when I went. The pan fried dumplings were really good. The chicken part of the the sweet and sour chicken was good but the sauce was watery and without any flavor except for maybe dirty dishpan flavor. The duck sauce tasted okay on the egg rolls. The pork fried rice was very average. read more

I went in for lunch one day, hankering for an egg roll as I do occasionally. I ordered two and another dish I can't recall. The egg rolls were cold, soggy, and had a rancid oily taste, and I would have sent them back, but the waiter never came out of the kitchen again until I finally gave up, left uneaten food and went to the cashier to pay. I paid the amount of the bill, with no tip, and am not going back. Great food and great service. I feel like a lot of people go into these hole in the wall Chinese places and expect something else. All great Chinese places I've ever been to have been humble, with little to no seating or decor. It doesn't matter because they have great food and they have great service! That said, Hang Wong is actually a pretty big place. They are in the same building as the Pamola Lodge. They have a large dining area inside and they also have a full bar. They are rarely busy since Millinocket is such a small town, so the staff is usually small. It's run by a woman who is always there, and she is very friendly. The food was great. I am not a huge fan of Chinese food, but they actually made me like it again! I got their hot and sour soup several times while I was under the weather, and it is the best I've ever had! They make everything after you place the order, so the wait time is usually 20-45 minutes, depending on what you order. If you are in the Millinocket/Medway area, I would definitely recommend this place! read more

Hang Wong is attached to the Pamola Motor Lodge, which makes it pretty darn convenient. What's nice is they don't just count on that to keep the customers coming. They actually try to make crowd-pleasing food and be warm and welcoming. We showed up on a Sunday just after their posted closing time, and the owner still greeted us with a smile and served us. We ordered the seafood lo mein and a spicy scallop dish, and in a miscommunication, fried rice instead of white (we wanted brown rice; they don't have that). We got LOTS of food: one takeout tray with lo mein noodles, another with the seafood and vegetables in sauce, another with the spicy scallops with veggies, and a medium box with fried rice. We'd just done a big hike but could've easily stuffed ourselves on half this much. They had no hot sauce, but they did have spicy mustard with a serious kick. If you dread salt and MSG, you probably should skip Hang Wong. But there were lots of fresh, crunchy veggies in our food, and it was tasty. They also have a buffet and a well-stocked bar. During the nearly two decades that I have lived in Millinocket, we've had a few Chinese food places come and go, but Hang Wong has been here all along. I am not often in the mood for Chinese food but when I am, Hang Wong is satisfying. Hang Wong is a truly family owned and operated restaurant, with the owner's child helping to wait on tables. The atmosphere is comfortable, the food is good, and the prices are reasonable. I won't try to tell you that it's the best Chinese food I've ever had but it's good. read more

Pretty cheesy decor inside this unsuspecting place. The staff was friendly and this place is entirely family owned. The food was very Americanized and rather too salty or too sweet. A pretty forgettable meal but my expectations were very low. Our group of 4 had Broccoli in garlic sauce, Kung Pao Shrimp and Chicken chop suey. The prices were average at about $9 a dish but the hot tea was free. And they take credit cards. read more

We were very happy with this choice after summiting Katahdin and feeling too beat to enjoy a night out. We ordered one of their meaty appetizer sampler choices and an entree to share for the two of us, and even being very hungry, it was more than we needed. She was happy to add broccoli to the Gen. Tso when we asked as well as substitute fried rice for the white. The two came to less than $20, was ready in 10 minutes for takeout and we felt like we had a delicious feast in our hotel room . read more

Been going there for 3 years. Staff is very friendly and will accomodate any requests when ordering. The decor could use updating as could the menu/recipes. But overall, I am happy to be a returning customer. read more
