Sawmill is a highly underrated gem. I come here annually with my friends after we hike Katahdin. It's a tradition I hope continues for many years. After 5 visits to Sawmill, I can confidently tell you food will not disappoint and the service is unmatched. Staff is super friendly and the vibe in there is incredibly low key and relaxing. From pizza to wings to Shepherds pie, you have plenty of options to choose, and you will be happy you stopped in. 10/10 would recommend. read more

We stayed at a local campground up the road from the bar and decided to stop in. We started with fried pickles and they are the bomb! Our cold beer and apple crown made a great accompaniment too! Excellent ice cream. We stopped here from our way back from millinocket. A 5 hrs hike on katahdin deserved a small scoop (which is actually two whole scoops!!). They have outdoor seating and other food too. Very popular place. Excellent service too. Would stop by again if we happen to be in Newport. read more

Nice place locals go- beer on draught, special pizza nights. My husband loves the wings- beware- bring your own celery / carrots if you like them with wings. I got a haddock meal which was deep fried - too crispy, could barely cut. I was able to substitute broccoli for the fries- it was cooked perfectly. Cole slaw was yummy, good portion- not a dixie cup. Also had the veggie pizza recently- piled high with toppings- really nice. Service was friendly. Video monitors offer trivia games for entertainment. Lots of Katahdin type decor. read more

I have eaten at over 500 restaurants in Maine alone. This one is not a class-A restaurant, nor does it try to be. This is pub-fare. It is some of the best pub-fare I have ever eaten. Their chicken wings are the absolute best. Even with nothing on them they are great, but the dipping sauces are extremely tasty. The onion petals are yummy! The Crib Works burger is wonderful. The pizzas pass the taste test. We love to sit and enjoy the atmosphere and the food. Don't be fooled. This place is a gem. The place was pretty unexciting on all fronts. I ordered the Reuben sandwich and a burger with the toasted cheese sandwiches for a bun which was recommended by our server and I got a cheese steak to go. The food was so bad I don't think a crow would like it. (I'm being serious here folks...) I hate to be harsh but it was not edible. I ate two bites of each entree and couldn't even swallow it. The service was friendly, the place was clean. The bar was nice and had some selections.....but the food was simply awful. Now maybe it was just one bad experience....cause that happens in this business....sometimes mistakes get made. If i lived in the area, I would go back to try some pizza or something different. but the three sandwiches I got were terrible. The sides were not good. IF the owners of this place get some help with the menu and cooking, this place could be a real winner. It has potential, but I'd think twice before bringing the family. Semi cheap food is only reason to go. Worst service I've ever had in my life. 2.5 hours to get food. 30 minutes to get our beer. Had to serve ourselves water. After 2 hours we politely asked if there was any news on the food and they blamed it on the place being busy when 6 tables of 4 were there. After we finished eating (5 min to eat the small amount of food) we asked for checks politely and they took 15 minutes to print the checks and then 10 more minutes of waiting with our cards ready on the table we took them to the waitress who was chatting to another waitress and not helping us. Then they said that we WERE RUDE AND NOT WORTH OUR BUSINESS. THEN THEY Said WE PROTECT OUR GIRL'S. . The only thought I had was if they were a brothel and that was their pimp. It was a sleazy unprofessional service and I'm disgusted with their terrible personalities and unprofessional manners. Other restaurants in the area are much better. read more
