The service. Get rid of the old bag behind the counter. Cook food to order. Dont sell stale, old, dried out food passing it for fresh cuisine. I had to throw out my order when I got it home. Then to top it off the old bag kept questioning my order. I could Taste the Staleness of the noodles. The chicken teriyaki was small and dried out. Discussed. Best Chinese food we've had outside of Taiwan. Informal, clean, pleasant environment with wonderful dragon on wall. Owner is super attentive to guests, offering great recommendations. We especially like the 5-spice tofu and marinated kohlrabi. read more

Food was amazing and they made it quick but when I asked for no onions in my rice they told me I had to buy a separate 13.99 large rice in order to do so...so if it's fresh then why can't you and if I have allergies of raw onion I shouldn't have to pay to not have them in my food but besides that it was amazing and will be going there again soon! read more

I don't understand the negative comments from many years ago. It is hard to meet all seniors' various diet restrictions. However, Christine seems to remember us and always makes us something special when we come, after asking about our preferences. We have never been disappointed with our service or the quality of the food. However, we don't order Americanized Chinese food. If you do, you might like the way someone else prepares it better with MSG, which she does not use (I think I'm allergic). Other Chinese restaurants creep me out, but I'm happy to go here any time. read more

If I could give a place ten stars, I would. This food was great. I had the twice fried pork and it really was great. The pork was sauteed well and the cabbage that accompanied it was crisp and flavorful. All in all, knocked it out of the park. The egg-roll was fresh and delicious, without a hint of five spice, which I hate. The soup was flavorful and had tofu and mushrooms galore. Service was fast and friendly. This place is fantastic! The owner Christine is wonderful, very attentive, offered to make our meals a more "authentic" and less Americanized way. Our waitress Melody was AMAZING. So funny, provided wonderful service. They have a section of popular Chinese food items for sale inside as well! I ordered the chicken with cashews and shrimp, with hot & sour soup. My partner had beef chow mein with a side of crab Rangoon, both of us had drinks- our total bill for dinner was $42. Everything was fresh and delicious! We will absolutely be back. Stopped in for dinner after a recommendation from a friend. Service was quick and friendly. I asked for a recommendation from the (delightful, super friendly) chef, Christine. She took the time to get an understanding of my preferred palate and spice level, and go over any allergies or sensitivities. I was then promptly presented with a completely authentic and fresh chicken and vegetable dish (source: I've spent considerable time with the Chinese diaspora here and abroad) that was light, delicious, and put the incredibly fresh ingredients on center stage. My husband and I have been looking for a Chinese restaurant that makes good food . Well this is NOT the one !!! First the place was dirty! Both our cups had food in them. When they bought this old Burger King they did as little as possible to fix it up . The bathrooms haven't been cleaned since it was BK . The waitress was extremely rude and the owner said we were not locals , ( I grew up here and my husband had been around the world and has had Chinese food in China ) what these people made is a VERY poor excuse for food in any way . All I have to say is that I have no freaking clue why this is open ! We paid for our food and left taking only one bite of it and knowing that if I ate anymore I would have a stomach ache. This review is for people who are gluten free. I have celiac disease. We came to this restaurant because of a recommendation from the owner of a nearby gluten free bakery. She told us to ask specifically for the owner, Christine, who was very willing to find gluten free options and understands the precautions needed for celiac. We did as suggested, and Christine was indeed knowledgeable and gracious. She indicated she would make our food personally after washing the wok and all the utensils. She indicated that with advance notice many things could be made gluten free, but since we arrived on a Saturday dinner rush, she was more limited. She checked with us for general preferences and other allergies and then asked us to trust her to make something for us. The food was great! Christine also eats gluten free (not celiac) and clearly had researched all her ingredients. She also indicated everything was made by her, with minimal processed food. We will be back! read more

I've been going to China Garden for years but moved away from Orono a couple years back. Every time I'm nearby I make it a point to stop in. The quality is still excellent and the staff is great as always. I liked the old location better. The atmosphere was more authentic to me. That only takes away from the experience a bit, though. My go-to dish is Sesame chicken. I've loved it since the first time I got it, especially if I ask for it to be a bit more on the spicy side. I haven't had everything on the menu, but everything that I have tried has been excellent. I will continue stopping in every time I get the chance! read more

Best Chinese in the area! Moved here from CA/NV and was missing Asian cooking...both Americanized and legit, but found most pretty flat without the wonderful punch of true Asian spices and oils. Then we stopped in for a quick meal to try this place and was so pleased! Yep, Americanized, BUT with flavor AND the owner will cook you traditional, legitimate Asian on request. In fact, if she is serving your table, she will ask you if you have a preference! And try her hot and sour soup! I was never a fan, but both hubby and I have fallen in love with the earthy umami flavor she gets into it! Highly recommend for the area for both FLAVOR and PRICE! read more

We usually get the owner's special. Christine will cook a series of dishes for the table incorporating fresh vegetables in season. These are excellent! Prices are very reasonable and portions are generous and delicious. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant and I visit at least once a month. Christine is a very funny and welcoming woman, and all food is prepared with no MSG. The restaurant is very clean, and the decor is cute. read more

The food at China Garden is excellent and if you have a special way you prefer a certain thing cooked be sure to ask if it can be done that way. I have found the owner very accommodating. Was not really happy with our last order that cost us $102. We ordered two large orders of lo mein and got two order of chow mein. We also ordered large oder of teriyaki beef and had to throw it away as the meat was so tough you couldn't eat it. We were VERY disappointed in this order. Skip this place! I've literally never had Chinese food that had zero flavor. General Tso's chicken was soggy and had no taste what so ever. Fried rice was definitely fried but was also just extremely bland. Chicken teriyaki was just some plain chicken on a stick with no sauce at all. Swing and a total miss :( read more

Literally the worst. Ordered spare ribs, chicken fingers and rice. Typical, huh? Ribs were soft (overly so) watery and just disgusting. Rice was old and tasted of nothing but onion and the chicken fingers were hard with the breading and chewy chicken. Wait staff was garbage, took over 20 minutes to check out on a pick up order. My FAVORITE restaurant in the Bangor area. Christine, the owner, makes delicious Americanized as well as traditional Chinese food. I've only had a few menu items as we always order the "authentic, off-menu" experience where Christine prepares a multi-course meal to be shared family style among your party. First, let me say that the China Garden Yelp entry is a combo of at least two restaurants in two different states. This review is for the one in Orono, Maine and OronoChineseFood.com We went for lunch today on the recommendation of friends. We were completely satisfied and impressed. We are used to average Chinese and mostly buffets. This one is neither. The menu is varied and the food is freshly prepared. The Wonton soup was good. The hot and sour soup was superb. Best I've had in the greater Bangor area. We ordered off the luncheon menu. We had garlic chicken with broccoli, and Hunan chicken with vegetables (broccoli and green pepper). Both dishes were excellent and came with a large serving of good fried rice. The chicken and vegetables in each were perfectly prepared by the owner/chef and seasoned perfectly for our likes. Our waitress was personable and friendly. She offered that next time in we should consider asking the owner to prepare whatever we wanted and didn't see on the menu because she likes the challenge and to please her customers. I believe the waitress does also! Maybe we caught this place on a good day, but I think we just discovered our new favorite restaurant. China Garden also has the bulk of their menu available for takeout, but there is no delivery. They appear to have online ordering, but I haven't used it. I give China Garden 4 stars because I know what 5 stars means and there are no 5 star Chinese in the area and maybe state of Maine.
