Windstream is an awful company. Don't use them or you will be sorry. Circular phone trees and extremely long wait times for service.

They claim the service is "high speed" but in reality it subpar at best. I like to have control of who and when someone is on my WiFI. I can never see who is connected to my router. I get an error message. It will even say no one is connected when I obviously on the network. read more

I can NOT even give this company 1 star.. I have been without internet for 1 week now...because I stupidly built a house on the same property... the stupidity is astounding... from wherever they are in Pennsylvania to Arkansas... I can't have any service because they have to take a wire to the new house.. only thing is.. I have had a cable running all the way up my driveway for many,many months...and everything worked fine in the old place...but I wanted to cancel the service... how stupid do you have to be to think to shuoff ALL my service before new was up and running... and I am a stupid paying customer... my options are limited.. and they are pretty outrageous also... but 9 years of Windstream is enough. I would recommend using absolutely anyone else. internet service is a crawl and they are completely ineffective. They are very nice but offer frustration more than anything else. Last time I needed service they said it would be a month without service before someone could make it out. You will be much happier skipping them and using a company that is capable of doing their job. read more

I agree with negative stars. WiFi is super weak and cuts out frequently. Customer service blows. How is this the only game in town (Birdsboro)? Where is Verizon and Comcast? Someone must be getting paid off!!! read more

It used to be OK. But I discovered that WS is now owned by Comcast (although Comcast itself is not available there I live). Lately, it has been running very slowly and hangs up or drops internet connection at least 2-3x per/day. I called WS service and the tech said yes, it's barely connecting. They sent a tech to the house and he fiddled with the modem and assured me it was up to optimum speed and the modem was working fine. Not an hour passed after he left and the same old problems resurfaced. I ONLY use WS from landline & internet service. The only other ISP in the area is Service Electric I don't want to pay the new service cost. I also notice that connection bars are a dark gray even though I am connected. Phooey. I don't feel I have too many options but to stick with it. Not happy with it. read more

We had service with them for phone and e-faxes. Could not make the e-fax work at all. We lost thousands of dollars in business as a result. We cancelled back in May 2019. They acknowledged the cancellation notice, but refused to stop service. SO now they bill me every month for more and more money. Despite the fact we stopped using them. Once you are in, there is no leaving. No matter how bad they suck, they will not allow you to leave. read more

Eww I'm constantly frustrated and pulling my hair at the horribly slow internet in the Ephrata area. It's a fine service if you're trying to live life using only 1 device in your whole house, but anything more, and you'd be bald before your downloads finish. Oh and don't even think about trying to watch YouTube while you do any other internet work 'cuz you'll be wasting half your life trying to watch a 10min video. Good luck uploading anything cuz that takes 5x the wait. Also the wifi gets loss about 2-4 times a week. Most of the time, restarting the router works, and a few times the download speeds go as low as 0.15mbps. One time it lasted a whole week at 0.25mbps. In short, there is no such thing as "high speed" internet in the Ephrata area for Windstream. If you're only using 1 device, you'll be fine with Windstream's services, but tbh at the cost, it's better to invest in some other ISP. read more

The internet service isn't bad when it works. About once a week we have horrible internet and end up using cellular data because it just doesn't work. I'm currently writing this in cellular data because the internet isn't working. It's also very expensive. I pay $90/month for an average 12mbps download and .60 Mbps upload and about a 30MS ping. I will more than likely switch providers. The only reason I'm giving 2 starts instead of 1 is because the internet is pretty good for what I do when it works. -2 starts for being tired of it not working and -1 star for the price being so high. read more

This company should be permanently put out of business. What they do is straight up fraud and deceit. Don't get under the impression that this company offers "high speed" internet service because they don't and likely never will. What you get with them is a dedicated phone line for your internet (DSL) which is extremely limited and unreliable with speed output/bandwidth. The people that this company cons into signing up with them will promise them speeds up to 50mbs, but in reality, you'll probably never reach above 12mbs. Senior citizens that pay for this likely won't catch onto the lower speeds they are getting. If unfortunately this is your only internet provider in area, I would just go to Starbucks and use their wifi. read more

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with in my life! Were a customer of theirs since 2010. Signed a contract in February of 2019 to do away with the internet and other services. Someone from Windstream came out in the beginning of April and told us additional mapping had to be done. That is the last time we saw anyone from Windstream. After contacting them several times to get the work done that was in the contract, we cancelled the service. We get a bill in the mail for $7,337.68 due to early termination of a contract they never honored. We are still fighting to have the rest of this balance credited. THE WORST! read more

I wanted to write this review earlier so I started on April 1 2016. My internet speed is so slow that my post is finally showing up on Yelp. After 6 months at my computer and the speed of a WellsFargo horse and buggy my review is finally getting posted. When Windstream said "upgrade to the faster speed" we did, unfortunitly that faster speed is defined as 'moving from Snail to Turtle. The people in this company are actually very nice to deal with, it's a shame they just don't have the technical support to provide anyone in the Lancaster area with internet speed equal to or better then mailing a letter. In fact if the US Postal service could deliver email with a traditional stamp in written form they would give Windstream a run for the money, yes that is how slow the upgraded service is in real time. I was using my IPad to track weather and thought it was strange that snow was predicted for August, then I realized I was just getting last Februarys reports lol , yes it's that slow ! I have now started new hobbies while I wait to download typical emails, I have now mastered Spanish, Heart surgery, jet engine repair and splitting atoms, all while waiting for my internet to load !! My mother lives at keystone Villa nursing home and they were without phone service for 20 hours ,you would think that they would be high on the priority list for service but I guess not ! thank God for cell phones .I would never ever think about using them based on this experience read more

Windstream is the WORST company I have ever dealt with in my 60 years. Their customer service is absolutely horrible. If anyone is thinking of using them for internet or phone PLEASE look elsewhere. 1 star rating is too good for them but I could not go any lower. I have had 2 service calls put in, 2 lineman to the house and I heard everything from bad wires, bad lines on the pole, wrong modem, I have had customer service block my cell phone from calling them, it has been a complete nightmare. They tell me its my modem, I bought the one recommended on their website, they just want to charge my $10 a month for a $50 modem, THEY SUCK. read more

Never ever use these people. Never. first they never got my order in. then the second order they forgot to send to dispatch. The third order they were supposed to come out in the afternoon. When I got home they had already come and gone. So when I called the first customer service person put me on hold and then hung up on me. Second one put me on hold for 20 minutes and then I hung up. If I could give separate ratings to the Windstream technicians who do the actual work they would receive a 5! However, the customer service teams lacks knowledge and skill to relay information properly to the dispatch team. EVERY interaction is a circus, and there is ALWAYS something that needs to be corrected. If we had another land-line option in our area, we would take it in a minute! All that being said, there are caring and experienced representatives we've worked with - but they are usually the ones fixing the mix-ups. read more

I use WindStream, formerly Cavalier, as my telephone and Internet provider. We have used them in our office and our home. The service was so bad at our office, we were forced to switch to a different provider and now the Internet in the office works great. We have had terrible service at home with the internet. The telephone service is fine. We are constantly on the phone with them to try and "solve" the problem. The last time we complained, a couple days later, they shut off our phones and Internet. We take care of my father in law who is 91 with diabetes and my mother who is 83 with Alzheimers and a heart condition. We cannot be without a phone. No one could tell us why they shut off our phones without warning us in advance. It took three days to finally get our phone service turned back on and over a week to get the internet back. Yes, they are one of the cheapest companies out there. This is an example of you get what you paid for. read more
