No hot water for 13 days so far. The maintenance was responsive to the requests to fix the issue. However, it doesn't seem to be an easy fix. Several staff members at the office proposed reasonable solutions and listened to our concerns. We asked to leave our belongings in another unit because we have a newborn at home. It's a lot of work to go to another unit to use hot water while having to pack everything for the newborn. However, the request to leave our belongings was rejected by the property manager. We feel that the manager doesn't care about the safety and health of a newborn. Update 10/5/2023: The leasing office lied about the availability of a unit we would be moving into in a week. We asked to use the hot water in that unit while our current unit was being repaired. The office told us that the maintenance team was still getting our new unit ready. However, the maintenance team told us the new unit was ready. We explained multiple times that we were not planning to move in early but simply to use the hot water and store some essentials there. Because we already had a babysitter and movers to help with the scheduled move-in date for most items and furniture. In the property manager's twisted mind, he believed that we were lying about the hot water issue to move into the new unit earlier than scheduled. Any parents with a newborn should understand that taking care of a newborn requires a lot of stuff and it's impossible to take care of them in an empty apartment. All we needed was to set up a basic "nursery" in another unit without running back and forth between two apartments constantly. We also communicated that we needed hot water to clean bottles and breast-pumping parts. For that, we clean them at least 8 times every day. The manager didn't understand our need for that and believed that offering us to take a shower in another unit was an adequate solution. Update 10/7/2023: The manager wrote a lengthy email explaining why he couldn't allow us to use the unit we will be moving into, he stated that "I am in the position that I am in is to protect the physical asset that my company owns." He also questioned why we didn't pick an earlier move-in date for the new unit. This is outrageous. How were we able to foresee the hot water issue approaching the move-in date of the new unit??? This summarizes all. He doesn't care about residents. Update 1/25/2024: If the office chooses to keep lying in the response on Google reviews, I will post the leasing manager's email word for word where he insulted us and denied an earlier move-in date. read more

We're now in our third year of being at home as residents of this beautiful apartment complex. In this time we've never had a bad moment. Small problems are always immediately addressed, fixed or solved. The maintenance team is by far the most exceptional group of hard working, friendly, happy and professional men. The average wait time for response is literally just hours. Your request for service is immediately acknowledged. Then the assigned team member, Mike, Jesus, Anthony...They make the friendly call, schedule for when it's convenient for you, then it's fixed. Simple as that. But not simply done. They always ask how we're doing. How are family is doing. Sincerely so. They're friends. Neighbors. There to help. Ask what else they can do for us. (We're two older women, mother & daughter and are always made to feel listened to and cared for, in a lovely maternal way) Then there's the office staff. Caitlin, Regan, Dave.... Regan and Dave took us through our 2021 renewal recently. They're just so fabulous- always honest, clear and professional . We are looking forward to 2021 Summer at the pool and enjoying the beautiful brand new clubhouse, technology center with super comfortable spaces and a NEW professional level gym!!! I can't wait to get onto the recumbent bicycle that is exactly what I had hoped would be added in the new equipment set up. The trees flowered so nicely this year. My one grump with the extensive landscaping is that they don't put iron nails under the hundreds of hydrangeas to bring out more colors! But there are always flowers. The waking paths are very well maintained. I use a rolling walker so the annual upkeep of the asphalt walk is very much appreciated. A really nice surprise this year was the upgraded gas grill areas. Now there are two grills, set into large cooking spaces. Thanks! Maybe next year we will see an overhaul of the dog park? There are dogs everywhere now. Owners are responsible with cleaning up for the most part and pups are leashed. The park is too small even for our little guys and it's on a slope making it difficult for dogs and owners alike. It's kept super clean by use of washable astro-turf. All in all its just a happy place to call home. read more

My wife and I have been staying in one of their recently renovated units for about 6 months while we look for a house. The units seem superficially nice but there was not much thought put into function. In the bathroom, there is a shower stall which has no access to the towel rack on the wall. The door opens in the opposite direction which is a bit perplexing. Walls are thin as others have pointed out, but people are generally quiet at night. If you are over the Malden line you may hear construction over at Oak Grove Station or the announcements over their speakers. Our limited experience with their maintenance team involved them flooding the upstairs apartment trying to fix their dishwasher. They ran a test cycle after they completed their work but didn't stick around to watch it. So, the dishwasher ended up leaking into our apartment and damaging my wife's work laptop. So, she's lost the ability to WFH for the past several weeks. I would suggest using their renter's insurance option. We decided to use our own insurance and it's been a pain. We ended up with two additional policies opened for us by the company they use for insurance. A few months in, we seem to have gotten one policy closed but we still see a charge on our most recent bill. When I've asked the leasing office for help/clarity on this issue, they wash their hands of it and say they have nothing to do with the 3rd party company. Finally, we were up front during our tour that we were house hunting and expected to break our lease. One of the first people we talked to on the phone indicated they could do a 1-month penalty for us if we did break our lease. I reiterated that information throughout our tour / with our leasing agent and everyone seemed on board with the reduced penalty. I recently emailed the leasing office that we expect to break out lease soon and we come to find out they put a 2-month penalty in our lease. That bit is on us, we didn't really read through the lease carefully. I had some correspondence with their senior property manager which was mostly positive. He offered to honor the 1-month penalty if I could find any documentation of that offer. Unfortunately, most of our interactions with Windsor have been on the phone or in person at their leasing office. So, that documentation didn't exist. We wanted a convenient, no-hassle place to live so we could focus on looking for a house. Unfortunately, our experience has been a bit of a headache. Ultimately, if you want quick access to the T then it's hard to beat the location. Otherwise, I'd probably look elsewhere to live. read more

I'm guessing management stopped caring about the issue. Dumpsters are constantly overflowing all over the place. Maybe 3 pick ups per week just isn't enough. Tldr: There were some headaches to deal with, but staff always worked to make things right. The good -Really beautiful apartment complex, with great facilities and landscaping. Good for people who don't want to live in high rises in the middle of a city -Kiana in the leasing office. She deserves a promotion! She was incredibly prompt, kind, and professional in all interactions. We always reached out to her when we had problems, because we knew she would get things done -Maintenance comes quickly and usually does a good job at fixing issues -The apartment was clean upon move in. So many other apartments do a careless job in making sure apartments are clean when new tenants move in. We were impressed by the level of cleanliness when we moved in The bad -They dont show you the actual unit you will be living in when you sign. We were shown the layout of the apartment we signed for, but it was not the right layout, and didn't include the breakfast bar we were promised. It was quite a disappointment. -Mice in our unit -There is always a lot of construction going on. We were often awoken by construction crews talking loudly outside our window early in the morning. The noise from daily landscapers is very loud -Very limited outdoor parking Tips if you plan on signing -Do everything you can to get assurance from the leasing agents that you actually get the apartment layout they show you -Ask for door stoppers to be installed under your front door and under the utility door. I wanted to provide an update as we have been there a few months now. We truly still really love it here. A little bit of a parking problem has come up but they are handling it swiftly and, in my opinion, the best way possible so no complaints there! Pros: Front office folks are top notch. So polite and always willing to try to help you out or give you whatever information you need. This is the only place I've lived where they address issues with noise or smoking. The grounds are super lovely and well-kept. Lots of trees and flowers everywhere to enjoy from your windows. The apartments aren't high quality, but they have a lot of good natural light and I like that the buildings are shorter. The quality of the finishes and renovations are on par with other buildings like these. Orange line right outside your door and an awesome park with trails. Easy to get to Melrose for groceries. Package receiving has been fine for me. Fairly quiet compared to most apartments. Not really much in the way of partying or loud music. Traffic noise is also minimal. You may hear the train, but it doesn't bother me. Garage parking is wonderful and I appreciate having an elevator (note not all buildings have an elevator). Cons: Kid noise, oh the kid noise. People treat this place like their personal playground. I didn't expect total silence and knew there would be some kid noise, but the high-pitched screaming at all hours of the night and day and then people using the courtyards as their own personal backyard gets old fast (leaving a bunch of bikes, toys, clothing all over the ground and benches in public courtyard). If it weren't for some serious positives, I'd have to say this is almost a dealbreaker for me it is so bad. And for anyone that's going to say "kids need to play, they need to get their energy out!" - well there's a playground on the grounds and across the street in the park - if they need to scream repeatedly for hours at the top of their lungs their parents can take them there so they aren't disturbing people. I'd like to be able to sleep past 7:30 am and have my windows open during work meetings. Inconsiderate residents leave their packages in the package room and clog it up, so it makes it difficult to find your stuff. If people just picked their item up when they got the notification it would be fine, but those requests from management seem to fall on deaf ears. Faulty fire alarms. Multiple units including our neighbors have had issues with fire alarms going off when there isn't a fire. Maintenance fixes it fast, but if they know they're faulty it'd sure be nice to get them replaced before we're all woken up at 3am. $400 rental increases. I realize this place charges what most other places this size charge, but it's kind of ridiculous. In general quality of residents feels like it has shifted. Still a very family-oriented place, but occasionally seeing and hearing more odd behavior (screaming at the dumpster, people carrying on outside at 1 am, etc). Overall, this is a nice place to live despite the negatives, however due to the rising rental costs here and the noise issues we'll probably either downsize to a smaller unit or try to relocate somewhere else that is less of a kid zoo. And you might see some people dispute the negatives you'll see in other reviews, but I just want to say that just because you don't personally experience the negatives you see in another review doesn't mean someone else isn't having problems. Someone on a top floor apartment may never have issues with pests while the floors below them might for example. read more

Just moved into this community and like most things it has its pros and cons. We moved here from another community that was newer and had a lot of amenities but was also significantly more expensive. I have indicated my observations below: Pros: meticulously maintained property Pleasant and efficient leasing staff Walking distance to Downtown Melrose Walking distance to Oak Grove T We love our nicely updated unit Storage right down the hall from our unit Restaurants on property Covered parking Cons: children playing and yelling in the hallways At various times throughout the day Units are not very soundproof. You can Hear everything. No trash chute. Garbage must be taken to To the dumpster outside of each building. Only a few recycling bins randomly placed Throughout the property Not enough dog stations for waste disposal All in all it's a fairly nice place and I'm sure we will settle in and adapt to the environment over time. I have lived here for over a year and overall have had a good experience. However, I do think that this complex can improve in many areas. Pros: - The staff are all very friendly and professional. - Kiana is such a pleasure to work with. During the leasing process, Kiana was so kind, professional and was honest about all of the charges. She was not pushy at all. - The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. - Maintenance requests are answered promptly. Maintenance workers have even helped me hang floating shelves which is so kind of them. - Proximity to the orange line. - The on-site coffee, nail salon, sushi, and restaurant are very convenient. - Common areas are very clean. Cons: - This place is only a good deal for your first year. When resigning our lease, they tried to raise our rent almost 11% which is absolutely ridiculous, even for Boston. I have never heard of such a drastic increase. They were willing to negotiate a little, but it still is a very large increase. If they increase our rent this much next year we will be leaving. - They make you pay for EVERYTHING here. Yes, rent is reasonable for this area, but they make up for it with all of the fees and utilities. We are cautious about how much water and electricity we use, and our utilities still end up being around $300 a month. They also charge you to use the amenities, and to change your locks upon moving in. - When I moved in I was told that the pool closes in October every year, which was true for 2018. In 2019 the pool closed in the beginning of September. September was full of beautiful 80 degree days and I was looking forward to using the pool, but unfortunately I couldn't. All of my friends' pools in the Boston area are open through September. This is a huge disappointment. They won't even let you use the lounge chairs around the pool. - The setup of the pool is strange, and only some of the chairs get sun for a small portion of the day. Many residents and children reserve chairs for the day as well, even when they are not using them. - There are a few grills on the grounds, but they are always busy on summer nights. They could use more of them. They also run out of gas frequently and are always dirty. Overall we have really enjoyed living in this apartment complex, however with the rent raises it has become so expensive that we will likely move back into Boston and find a place in a similar price range. read more

Fact: The $400 holding deposit they charge you is illegal. So far, they will not refund it if you decide not to sign a lease with them. When my boyfriend and I filled out the online application, we read and signed the "Resident Selection Criteria Document." Section 2 of them document outlines that application fees will not be refunded unless the law requires, or unless the application is rejected/ the potential lessees join a wait list for an apartment then change their mind. Once we had paid, we were given a receipt stating, "Application fees are non-refundable, even if the application is denied, except to the extent otherwise required by applicable law." (The applicable laws here are The Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act, Chapter 93A, Massachusetts General Regulation 940 CMR 3.17 section 4a, and Massachusetts General Law Part II, Title I, Chapter 186, Section 15B part 1b.) Because Massachusetts law does not allow apartments to charge non-refundable fees other than the 4 stated in the Massachusetts Security Deposit Law, and the law supersedes company policy, we understood that we would be refunded our money if we chose not to sign a lease with them. Two weeks after we cancelled our application, I reached out to the leasing manager about getting our $400 back, since we did not sign a lease with them and the holding fee could not be applied to a lease with Windsor. I made reference to Massachusetts law in my initial email, but the leasing manager responded that he would not refund us because we had cancelled after we were approved and not on a wait list. When I responded to clarify that I was asking for a refund because Massachusetts law requires it, and stating which laws applied, my email was ignored. I purposely didn't do this review until we'd been here through the renewal, so as to have a comprehensive review. We love it here! We upped the lease term from 12 to 15 months and in so were very pleased to come to good financial and other terms in the new lease--- honestly, clearly and respectfully. Obviously there's a year to year increase. Any reviews that suggest that it's unreasonable for there to be a cost of living raise is just not realistic. Melrose has topped the lists as a "Best place to live" several times which has resulted in a shortage of housing inventory. Supply and demand rules costs. Especially with the hugely desirable location adjacent to the T. Do check out the pricing at the Washington Street brand new, modern apt complexes. (Especially see their reviews. New buildings already having big issues) They're priced in the same range or higher---without the green spaces and amenities. Our apartment is so lovely. 2 bedroom, two bath. Top floor. 10 ft ceilings, all doors are solid and controlled closing (no slamming of doors is fantastic) with lots of oversized windows-- all the way to the floor in the central area, which the dogs are crazy about. We almost never hear our neighbors or smell food cooking (a pet peeve) inside our home.. Our leasing agent that we first signed with (awesome Kevin Pickup!!) was able to find the perfect apartment for our "Need to have" list. We put down our wait list deposit with a 4-6 month lead time to move in, giving time for Kevin to succeed fulfilling our needs. You should listen to the terms of renting. Nothing is included. The water & sewer are billed by a third party company and added to your monthly. Storage in only in two buildings, which can be annoying but we've adjusted, with an adjustable dolly from Walmart ($60) which is invaluable to move items to/from the storage space in building 2, opposing us. We rent a nicely sized storage room that's less money than an off-site location. The exterior parking seems to be tight and well controlled to avoid T station people from parking here. We chose to get an inside reserved space. We needed a handicapped space and they created one for us next to the elevator!!! Anything we've asked for help with, including help hanging art, installing a different shower head, helping us find great movers.... our concierge Kevin is ABSOLUTELY wonderful. The entire leasing and management team are equally fabulous. They clearly enjoy their work. Regan took us through our January renewal--- he was open to our ideas, honest, clear and professional . And. the maintenance crew, well, they're just incredible. Dave, Mike, Michael, Jesus..We can set our clocks by the cleaning team who keep the common areas impeccable. We've never gone longer than 12 hours without their response. On snow days they are out at 5am hand shoveling all the sidewalks and entrances. The landscaping is so well planned with flowering trees, spring and fall flowers everywhere, tree lined walkways. Just beautiful. It looks like a neighborhood, unlike the big, new complexes built on Washington St, the flip side of Oak Grove T station. I do sincerely wish the dog park was bigger and not on sloping ground, right against the chain link that runs along the waterway. Its kept clean and has some toys but has a big granite rock in the middle. Also, maybe they could offer a dog wash station of some kind? Yes there are small things that drive me crazy but any concern I've thought strongly enough to raise to staff has always been respectfully listened to. I see a few reviews that talk about rats. I saw one, just one, at the trash dumpster. There was a serious issue with the dumpsters overflowing. Just no room to add more but they've added more pick ups and its improved. I've never seen a mouse. I did purchase a simple door sweep when we moved in but that was to stop the flow of air, and expulsion of our heat/ac. Our unit is next to the stairwell so there air pressure inside the building opposes. But the simple item stopped that immediately. We did have ants in the spring, but when we asked for help, bingo, Jesus arrived and put down pet safe traps. Spiders are our only non paying roommates. Bunny's galore too! Very dog friendly in half the buildings. Our two pups have so much fun here. It's wonderful to see all the happy yappy pups. So many sweet families. Like I said, it's a neighborhood. The pool is very busy. There are 550 apartments, so it's not surprising. During busy times people do "reserve" the best deck chairs but I have no problem asking them to share. Most neighbors are reasonable when asked to unreserve. The gym is open 24/7 and has a good selection of machines and free weights. Oak Grove Village has quickly become our home. read more

When I moved into Windsor at Oak Grove in 2013 I considered it a temporary residence. As I was getting settled here, my children decided that I should live closer to them. I will be moving soon. During my time here whenever I needed any maintenance work the men could not have been more accommodating and prompt to my call. I met Mike, the supervisor, early on and he runs a good ship which alludes to the good service. Windsor should be proud that there is a great crew in that department. read more

I'm not quite sure where some of these other negative comments are coming from?? Dogs without leashes, low class, and rodents??? Some folks will complain about anything and embellish the reality of their experience to legitimize their delusional complaint. This place is a fantastic place to live. My wife and I are both young professionals which seems to be the majority of folks living here. Young professionals with families. The management has always been nothing but extremely friendly to both myself and my wife. They are very professional and don't hesitate to fix an issue. There are building which allow small to medium sized dogs. I have never seen or heard a dog bark during the day or in the evening. It's mostly pretty quiet. The walls may not be sound proof but rarely I heard some faint unrecognizable murmur through the wall. Its not as if you can hear a conversation just a muffled sneeze which is absolutely expected from any apartment complex. This place has plently of green space and is extremely clean and well kept. Yes they even have grills in some of the green spaces. I'm sorry but who doesn't enjoy grilling out during the summer months for friends and family?? Windsor at Oak Grove is by far the best apartment home we have had the chance to live in. The complex is immaculate because the grounds crew does a great job of keeping the exterior and interior hallways so clean. The amenities are adequate with a pool in the summer and a gym all year round. Having a concierge is a plus because you never have to worry about your packages getting misplaced. We currently live in a two bedroom and find it very spacious for the area we live in. Only cons would be walls can be a little thin if people are talking exceptionally loud and it's a pricey place to live. In the grand scheme of things though that's a small price to pay to live in such an amazing complex read more

I'll be sad to leave this place. I've lived here since 2009 and have had no complaints. The apartment I live in is lovely - stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, and I particularly enjoy the second bathroom with the glass encased stall shower. The ceilings are soaring with great sized windows and we have a view out to the river and path that runs behind the buildings. The fitness center is on the small side, but well-appointed for an apartment complex fitness center. The media room and club house are also quite nice. Both can be rented out for a small fee. The grounds are always well-maintained. The staff does a fantastic job shoveling in the winter - I have never had trouble getting in and out, even during this past (terrible) winter. There is a lot of green space for the small area and we are across from Pine Banks Park where there is a great new cork track and fields, as well as hiking trails. The pool gets great sun in the summer, there are grills in green areas to BBQ, and the path behind the apartment has doggy bag stations for cleaning up your pet waste. Walking distance to Oak Grove orange line train to get you into the city or walking distance to Melrose center for a suburban town center. Easy access to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. The former staff was good, but the current staff are fantastic. They're friendly and helpful, and have answered several late night emergency requests (we had a faulty carbon monoxide detector), and have helped out even when they didn't have to -- Once I dropped the lid of my coffee maker behind our oven and had NO IDEA how to get it and one of the crew members retrieved it and left helpful instructions for the next time. The neighbors are friendly - there's a great mix of families, older couples, and single professionals. No raging parties (at least that I've heard), mostly a quiet suburban apartment complex. There is, however, construction going on off of Washington Street (and there has been for at least 8 months), so every weekday morning you do get a 7:30 ish wake up call. Only complaint in 3 years? This apartment complex is simply amazing. Seriously, anyone who complains about this place probably is just over life in general. We have been here six months so far and it's by far the nicest place we have ever lived. Here are some of the reasons we love it. 1) The most beautiful landscaping in all seasons, nice seasonal floral arrangements near the building entrances, and a nice peaceful vibe. It is always so quiet, and the courtyards are great. We love to just walk around the property together sometimes, and there is a great park right across the street. 2) Extremely responsive maintenance staff. Seriously, they go above and beyond and fix anything quickly (we even had one come on Thanksgiving once for a non-serious issue since he was in the building!) I don't think I've ever waited more than 24 hours. They really take pride in making all of the apartments in tip-top shape. For example, they completely replaced the carpet before we moved in. 3) The apartments themselves are modern/ updated with large windows and lots of light. 4) Personally, I love seeing children, dogs, etc. around the property. There is a great community vibe. The office hosts all types of events like holiday socials, beer tastings, paint night, etc. Sometimes a taco truck comes too. I think there is a book club here too. Even though I'm too busy to participate in many, it's nice to see residents connecting. 5) Great clubhouse that you can take advantage of with free coffee, etc. There are really so many little perks. Like they have dry-cleaning pick up you can do straight from the office. 6) I love the businesses here. Ocean House sushi is sooooo delicious, and Jitters the coffee store is great. There is also a cute little wine shop. It's nice having things right across the street in walking distance. 7) They do an excellent job with snow removal, and having underground parking for $50 a month, you basically live like royalty. No shoveling= winter bliss. 8) Nice walking path to the t, I use the orange line to commute and to just have fun going into the city on weekends. The complex is only a few stops on the t away from the assembly shops/ movie theatre. Melrose is also a nice little town. I'll stop now, but let me just say it actually makes me sad to think about leaving this place one day when we buy a home. read more

Overpriced Substandard Apartments and Incompetent Staff This was the worst rental experience I have ever had. It started when I was just looking and was convinced by Bridget to pay a $150 deposit to join the "Waiting List" to get advanced notice of my preferred apartment. Later I discovered the unit I wanted online, but I never got the advance notice. So I inquired, and by the time I go back out there to see it, the rent magically increased by $50/month. Then a few days before I move in, Bridget contacted me to inform me that "We don't do walkthroughs on Saturdays anymore " (Read: They are too busy to deal with people that have already signed a lease) , so I will have to be there Friday by 5:30pm to get the keys. Then there is a mad rush for me to sign an updated lease agreement with the new date and so on. I make special arrangements to get out of work early and drive in rush hour traffic to get to Melrose by 5:30pm. When I arrive, Bridget tells me, Oh, Your apartment isn't ready. I tried to call you but your voicemail is full. First, this was a LIE. She actually lied to my face. I had no missed calls on my phone and my voicemail was not full. Second, if you need to cancel an appointment and can't reach the person, you KEEP TRYING, you don't just call once. She didn't send an email either. How incompetent and unprofessional can you get? She brought me to the unit and there were rolls of carpet blocking the door so we could only literally just open it a crack. They were nowhere near being done and they had to have known for hours. Clearly, she dropped the ball on this, but she just handed me a folder of takeout menus and said "Welcome to Oak Grove". She didn't give me a parking sticker and I had to go back later to ask where the mailboxes were. It was a complete waste of my time, and the service never got better from there. Natasha was another piece of work who gave me a lot of unnecessary attitude on the phone when I called to ask about parking after a snow storm. I offered to pay for a month in the garage to allow time for maintenance to clear the surface lots. She said "No, you can't do that". Ok, so what should I do? "Well we don't guarantee parking in the lots anyway. Do you have any other suggestions?" Yes - let me pay to park in the garage?! Seriously I wanted to ask if she was there to help or just to be rude and bitchy. I realized that the Leasing Office staff is not really customer service for residents - they are there to sell, period. I have had better customer service at the RMV. The difference in service here compared to an actual luxury managed community is real. So speaking of luxury, or lack thereof, these apartments are old and dated. Don't be fooled by the model units. The appliances in my unit were the cheapest models you can find at Walmart...10 years ago. The plastic rack in the dishwasher was corroded so the rusty metal ends showed and there were deep scratches and rust stains on the inside of the door, that made me cringe every time I looked at it. The refrigerator did not have an ice machine. First class problems, I know, but my definition of luxury does not include wrestling with ice cube trays. The walls and ceiling in this place are so thin, the people above sound like they are going to crash through the ceiling. Oh, and I could hear the squeaky mattress of the couple next door like a cheap motel. Don't have your parents come stay for a visit. Really embarrassing. Also, be prepared that basically everything costs extra on top of the advertised rents. Access to the pool full of screaming kids less relaxing than a Holiday Inn at Disney World? - That costs extra. Jane Fonda's gym of Nautilus equipment from 1985 - that's extra. Water bill - extra (billed on some BS submetering system, most likely a rip off) Trash - extra!! But for your $5 a month, they haven't figured out how many dumpsters to get or schedule pick up so you will often come out on Monday to overflowing trash and recycling piled up all over the sides. There was a regular dumpster diver man for a while too, who'd climb in and go through the recycling. Awesome. This place is close to the T and the grounds are kept up nice, but otherwise you can get much newer and nicer apartments and better customer service in probably any of the managed communities outside Boston, IMO. read more

I have never wrote any complaint review before but after staying at Windsor at Oak Grove, I could not get over the experience that I had until now I have to write something to raise my opinion about how Windsor at Oak Grove could be a better business. Misleading and inconsistent: I had a final moving out bill with multiple errors that I found with water bills and an extra interior parking spot charge for my car. A week before I moved out, I called the leasing office to give the notice that I would move out on Feb 29, 2020. I also dropped 2 sets of apartment keys and 1 remote for 1 indoor parking spot on March 1st. The reason I moved out of Windsor at Oak Grove because apartment was already booked to be renovated right away, so I could not extend anymore stays as I was told by the leasing office staff. After moving out, I received the bill balance from March 1-March 8, 2020 for the time that I already moved out. When I called the office to give the notice that I will move out on Feb 29, no one in the office ever mentioned me that I would be billed until March 8th if I move out on Feb 29. I just thought that it would be easier to move out the end of the month in order to start a new month rent and it would be convenient for them to renovate the apartment asap. If I knew, I will be responsible to pay the balance for moving out earlier than March 8th, I would not move out earlier. The final bill was also showed 2 interior parking spots charges but I only had one car with one garage parking spot. Missing parking stickers which I was not sure, no one in the office ever gave me any parking sticker which cost $150. Finally, after couple times emailing back and forth, I got the correct parking spot charge and parking sticker waived. Inconvenience: there was the construction outside my apartment window for almost everyday for the last two month rents. The noise was so disruptive and my health was affected because I could not sleep. Irresponsible package concierge: I had rented there for 4 months, I had experienced 3 times that my packages had been missing. The most recently was about when the FedEx dropped off the packages at the concierge around 9 am, someone in the office signed the packages and then she or he was not responsible to put them away. When the package concierge opened at 10 am. They could not find my package and when I called to ask no one seems to care about my missing package. Then I had to go through so many hectic phone calls with Fedex to get thing investigated. Finally my package was taken by other resident. Honestly, Windsor at Oak Grove could never compared to Station Landing where I used to rent before. Station Landing office even prorated me the last day of the month that I moved out which they did not need to do. I think with the monthly rent almost $2300-$2400 per month/1 bedroom without satisfaction at Windsor at Oak Grove I had the right to give suggestions and review. read more

We have lived at Windsor at Oak Grove for one year and recently renewed our lease for a second term. We initially moved to Windsor at Oak Grove blindly--relocating cross country from LA and never having seen the complex first hand. We were comforted by other's positive reviews and their leasing team's superior customer service. Other than a small hiccup at move in, which they remedied, we have been very happy here. The community is very safe and family/young professional friendly. Their staff is always friendly and they go out of their way to show tenant appreciation by planning numerous community events throughout the year. In a perfect world-- rent could be less and floor plans could be more spacious, but overall this is a wonderful place to live! read more

I have lived at this Windsor community for almost two years and am moving for grad school at the end of my lease. Overall, this community is a good place but there are a few pros and cons that made me give it three stars. Cons: *Most significant con: The apartments are typical wood and sheet-rock construction. Because of this, there is a lot of noise transmission between walls and floors. It often sounds like the resident above you is about to come through the ceiling. If you are on an upper floor, I'm sure it's much better. There is also a double-edged sword layout of apartments: the living room of one apartment abuts the bedroom of the neighbor. If you're a night owl, its fine. If you're an early to bed person and your neighbor is not, you're screwed. A bit pricey for the distance from Boston but it is justified by the proximity to the orange line. Parking is difficult, especially in the evening. You can pay extra for an underground spot but the included surface spot is a hot commodity. Mediocre gym filled with old equipment and low free-weights. If you just want an elliptical or treadmill, it'll work just fine. Bear in mind, you pay a one-time amenity fee for this and the pool. Pros: Great location in proximity to the Oak Grove T station, Pine Banks park for you and your dog, and onsite restaurants for easy eats. (Jitters cafe is great for breakfast and lunch options.) Fenced-in dog area with turf and refuse stations. The entire community has decent grass space for walking dogs. Overall, very dog friendly. Community building is nice for package pickup, pool, gym, media room, and room for events. Apartment buildings are typically smaller (2-3 floors) with one or two being 4 floors. Makes it feel like more of a community than a giant, sterile building. They honor preferred employers which will reduce your move-in costs. (security, amenity fee, etc.) **Lastly and most importantly: I have lived in several managed communities around Boston. The staff here has been the best by far. The maintenance guys are responsive and helpful. Everything is online so you can pay bills and request maintenance with ease. They were even proactive and installed energy saving lights in all the apartments. The management staff are very friendly, professional, and helpful. They address your issues right away. This is a large community with a lot of residents so I have always been pleased with the way they carry themselves because I am an easy resident, many others are needy. The management also has a good amount of social events to bring people together, food trucks visiting, and pet friendly events (including an end of the pool season party where the dogs can swim). There are always caveats to apartment living. If you can tolerate some noise or can communicate concerns to your neighbor peacefully, Windsor at Oak Grove will be a good place for you. read more

The maintenance team here is outstanding. Michael and Anthony are exceptionally responsive and highly skilled at addressing and fixing any repair that is necessary. I've never had to wait more than thirty minutes for any repair to be addressed. Additionally, they both have wonderful personalities and are always so helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this apartment complex, not only for the location and the pretty community, but for the maintenance team who is the best around! read more

This review is for 2 adults living in 1BR apartment. we both are working professional and hardly home, i.e 8AM-6PM we are 99% away on weekdays, not to mention on the weekends we are about 40% away as well. Facts: The apartment floor plan they showed us (A2) and what we ended up in when we moved in were different. They tell you that A2 are mostly same and that's why they don't have all variants of floor plans on site (NO THEY ARE NOT). We are told our apartment gets plenty of sunlight (if sunlight on opposite side is consider as sunlight in the apartment). After about a month the lady who showed us the community when we came for first time and who showed us the layout of our place was not working there anymore - for apparent reason. Apartment: - Location: Close to oak grove station (only good thing IMHO) - Rent: Expensive (based on neighborhood) - Approximately rent is ++2k/month for 1BR + utilities (electric + gas) (~50$) + water ($100/month minimum IMO - they tell you its based on usage but its a lie believe me i was told $35 when we signed the lease) - there is no f'ing way your water bills will be below 100/month for 2 ppl (add that to base rent please) - Amenities: - Community room closes at 10PM because ... - Gym is open 24 hrs (No - its not included in the rent, there a one time fees for it (insert smirky smile)) - we knew when we signed the lease so no biggy (did you add that to base rent?) - Pool (no lifeguard - whatever) - (This together with Gym membership is one time cost) - Theater room is not free if you're wondering. For exclusive use you'll have to pay! - Parking is 50$/month for dedicated garage spot (add it please) - they've supposedly "plenty" of free parking outside, but umm do this try to drive around the community after 7PM (BEFORE YOU RENT THE PLACE HERE), you'll see cars parked in the fire lanes (there's plenty for you - Yah) - Maintenance - Quite good, they try to keep you here and based on my experience they do very good job. So ? key take home for all you who think of this as 'luxurious' community, do this before you rent. - Ask for water bills for existing tenants and # of residents. We've lived at Oak Grove for over a year now, through the management changes, the pet policy changes and the break-ins. I should emphasize that we did not and do not expect Oak Grove to be the Ritz-Carlton residences. If you move here thinking your next door neighbor is going to be a Rockefeller, you are going to be disappointed. In that context, I was very disappointed to read the comments here about "low class" people. That kind of attitude has no place in America and, frankly, I'm glad those reviewers are moving out. Distinguish marketing from reality. Do you really think wearing Axe deodorant is going to have thousands of women racing to mob you? It won't. These aren't "luxury residences" a la Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. These are, in our opinion, subway-friendly apartments in a family-oriented apartment complex in a Boston suburb. That means kids, pets and noise. There are a ton of different nationalities and ethnicities here. If those things make you uncomfortable, this is not the place for you. If you want a community near the subway that accommodates those, it is worth a look. We have found the staff generally responsive and helpful. I thought they handled a very tense community meeting after the break-ins with maturity and calm. In concrete terms, they changed the security company, changed the door locks, did extensive background checks on the staff, involved the police and responded to everyone. Honestly, I'm not sure what more they could do short of placing armed guards on every floor... I think the management efforts have actually IMPROVED after the ownership change. Landscaping is better, fresh paint is being put down, new children's play equipment has been provided etc. In general, for such a large (500+ apartment) complex, everything is clean, generally safe, well-lit, runs competently and allows us to focus on living our lives - that's really all we asked for. The buildings themselves are aesthetically nicer than the cinder-block or skyscraper apartments and there are lots of common areas and green spaces. I wasn't thrilled about the change in pet policy (we are in a no-dog building) or the rent increases, but the rent increase wasn't excessive - and, frankly, rent increases are common to all apartment buildings except the most distressed ones. As for the person who rented it sight unseen and then complained.... Um, I don't know what to say... Maybe actually check out a place before you rent it? Overall, I think it comes down to what you expect and look for in an apartment building. For our purposes, it worked fine. Perhaps we are "low class" noisy people with kids. We have been living at Windsor at Oak Grove for over two years. The staff at the leasing office could not be more kind, helpful, or accommodating. In particular, Bridget saved us from a tremendous amount of anguish when our 1 year old puppy escaped our apartment. She was wandering around the complex in the rain while we were at work. Bridget and the rest of the staff found our pup, dried her off and kept her in their office until we were able to get home-- we could not be more grateful. The staff, including maintenance always goes above and beyond for us and has responded to early morning alarms very quickly. UPDATE 2: So we left a while ago. There are some things to look out for. The new management is definitely the nickel-n-dime type. I'm not sure about the long term prospects. The building is aging and the focus seems to be on squeezing out the most money from it. Things to look out for 1. Water/sewer charges. Make sure they are going to use market (city rates) and not their own rates 2. Ask for their miscellaneous charges (changing locks, charging for lost keys, charging for entry if you have forgotten your keys). Those add up. 3. It's not a heated pool, so it is only open a few months in the middle of summer 4. The "pet fee" does not cover wear and tear due to pets - they charge extra for that. My suggestion would be to look at Riverside (near Wellington) as well as the other new complexes coming up before deciding on Oak Grove. UPDATE 1: I just learned that they charge a $200 fee for new locks when you move in. This was definitely not there 5 years ago and the management was much more liberal. I am somewhat surprised by all the charges the new management has put in place. I suspect that instead of raising the rent, the management is going for itemized (hidden) charges so your effective rent will be a little higher than the sticker price. Still a pretty good deal for the new construction and the amenities. Part of my reason is to counter a too negative impression people might get from some reviews here. Most of my experience is from the old management. Old management: They were always friendly to us and were very responsive and personable. Once we had a water logging incident where the down spouts clogged and rainwater spilled into our apartment. At first they did not understand the extent of the problem, but after my second complaint, they really swept into action and treated our carpets and fixed the down spouts. New management: The new management is a lot less friendly and personable than the old one, but they are professional and efficient. They have put in a bunch of changes (dogs, water meters) which are interesting but OK. I suspect the water bill thing will be annoying. They take good care of the property and run it well. Pros: Pool, gym, reading room, lounge, package holding, underground parking spaces, new units, very good appliances, very responsive and friendly maintenance. They take care of the property including snow clearing, painting. Very nice environment, a hop away from the T. fairly quiet. Cons: Not enough/not well placed trash dumps. They are working on this though. For the price, they are a good deal. (For folks who don't like people who are not white living next to them. It's about time that someone reviewed Windsor at Oak Grove without giving it either 1 star or 5 stars, but call it what it is- a decent place to live for young professionals that commute to Boston for work. The 1 star reviews are absolutely ridiculous and unnecessarily critical, while the 5 star reviews make it sound like daisies will grow out of your butt if you move here. I have lived here with my wife for almost 3 years and this place has its definite positives and negatives. I live in one of the Phase I buildings. It sounds like people that live in the newer, Phase 2 buildings have had a more positive experience than me, so keep that in mind. Here are my list of pluses and minuses for Windsor at Oak Grove: Pluses: - 7-8 minute walk to the Orange Line with a dedicated, lit path to/from the Oak Grove Station is fantastic. - One, secure garage parking space is included in your monthly rent - In-unit laundry - Fantastic, responsive maintenance staff - Cordial, but not overly friendly office staff - Newly remodeled fitness center in the clubhouse is one of the nicer gyms that I have seen at an apartment complex - Nice outdoor pool and seating area for use during the summer months; however, the pool is usually overrun with kids. Very few adults, other than the parents of said kids dare to venture in - In general, the complex is nicely landscaped and maintained; however, I have noticed recently that there are a ton of cigarette butts lying on the ground, at least around my building. There are no ashtrays outside of the building for smokers to leave their cigs in. This would be a cheap fix for this problem. Negatives: - The buildings were constructed as cheaply as possible and have poor insulation. This means that your unit is freezing in the winter and beastly hot in the summer, driving up your utility costs. This also means that noise from your neighbors is a problem. I clearly hear conversations that my next door neighbor has, and I have even heard my upstairs neighbor speaking. When we first moved in, we had kids upstairs from us, and our ceiling would shake every time they would run around the apartment. Thankfully, we have new upstairs neighbors now, but be warned that if you have kids, or just loud neighbors in general, either next to you or upstairs from you, you might have a poor experience here - Since GID/Windsor took over the property, the cost of living here has increased tremendously. Our rent shot up 5% ($100 a month) at our last lease renewal, and I am anticipating a similar increase for our upcoming renewal. In addition, tenants are now responsible for water/sewer costs, where we were not under the old owner/manager. Luckily, we were grandfathered in for this year, but will be responsible for water costs at our next lease renewal - While the complex has security, I'm not exactly sure what they do. If you walk around the complex, you'll notice many cars parked there without either a resident sticker or a visitor pass. I have seen several people use the outdoor lot by building 6 for MBTA parking with no repercussions. The former security company would at least patrol the complex and leave notes on the windshields of cars that didn't belong there. That no longer happens. As parking around the complex tends to get difficult during the warmer months, this needs to happen again. - Again, I find the office staff perfectly cordial, but I do believe that they handle "big events" poorly. I agree that allowing dogs in several buildings seemed forced upon the residents here. Luckily, I am in a building that doesn't allow dogs, but I would not be happy if I was living in one that did. I also know that the office staff held several meetings about the break-ins that happened here about 18 months ago, but we have no idea how this issue was resolved, if at all. - The kitchens in the Phase I buildings seem cheap with the laminate countertops and white appliances, and I'm pretty sure that the microwave, fridge, and oven are the cheapest GE models that you can buy. They get the job done, but if I'm paying $2k a month in rent, I expect a little more for my money. All-in-all, I have had a good, but not great experience living at Oak Grove Village/Windsor at Oak Grove. I will most likely not be renewing my lease again as I expect to be moving out of state, but even if I were staying in MA, I believe that the cost of living here would soon become too much to be worth it. read more

Me and my friend like the neighborhood, especially the park and main street area of Melrose. But me and some others live here shared one major concern about unleashed dogs that scare people.... Last month or so, we received flyer saying our building will be open for tenants with dogs. Personally, I have no problem with dogs but since they said the dogs won't be allowed in the building before we moved in, this is a bad surprise. What will happen next? Who knows... Suddenly announce that people can smoke inside? I guess the management just wants to make it family less friendly or unfriendly at all by making it too pet friendly... They probably could enforce some pet policies, but they just did not... Recently, I have been seeing SEVERAL CASES OF UNLEASHED DOGS, small or big. I guess I have no problem defending myself against the smaller barking ones, but the huge ones are really scary... (I am 5'8 tall and quite athletic, but those huge dark ones still scared my crap out...) Saw crying babies tonight on the street after a unleashed dog incident so decided to warn families with small children (or bigger ones), or anybody scared of dogs, unleashed.... Those crazy people who cannot leash their dogs and themselves also take their unleashed dogs to the park, so be prepared if you see one... How? who knows, just avoid them, if it is possible... Another issue is there is no recycle bins... Just throw everything together! Nice! Also you can see dirty diapers on the street to the trash bin sometime... No one thinks to pick it up... This may be the reason that they wanna invite more people with dogs, just to scare those with kids away... Everything works out fine then I guess... Anyhow, if you are fine with unleashed dogs and management full of surprise, feel free to move in, since we are moving out as soon as our lease is over!!! read more

The service in the office here is extremely impressive. When we were initially looking for somewhere to move, I was drawn to this complex because of it's location to the Oak Grove station. We visited and were shown around by Lindsay, who was very friendly and sent us a nice postcard saying thank you for checking out the property. Unfortunately, when we decided to go ahead with renting there was a small miscommunication about the base rent for the apartment and when we went to sign the lease, the cost was different from what we had expected. They were very understanding and willing to compensate for the mistake, which is a big indicator of how much they care about their residents. We only noticed the mix-up two days before we were supposed to move in (so all of our utilities were already set up) and after we had already signed the reservation receipt (but not the lease), and we are very aware that they could have adopted a "too bad" attitude as some of the other management companies in the area seem to sometimes have. We've spoken with one or two other employees as well and had excellent interactions each time. The property itself is beautiful and right next to Pine Banks Park, which is awesome for people who like to run (it's a great area to run in general but they also have a nice new track that is open to the public...huge bonus points). Possibly my favorite thing about the apartments in general is that there is laundry in the unit! No more lugging laundry hampers down the hall. There are also some cute little shops on-site (coffee place, wine shop, and maybe a little spa?), and they are adding a sushi restaurant which we are really excited for. I'll update this review if anything changes, but so far Windsor at Oak Grove is hugely deserving of 5 stars. EDIT: We've been living here ~8 months now so I thought I'd update this to say that we are still very very happy with this apartment (as in, at least once a month my boyfriend or I will comment on how much we love living here and how grateful we are to have found this place). I'm surprised about the complaints of noise in adjacent units--our building may be a bit newer than the others (?) but this hasn't been a problem for us at all. Our upstairs neighbor even kindly told us that his dogs like to run around sometimes and to text/call him if the noise bothers us, but you can BARELY hear anything even when they're sprinting around full force. As for hearing people talk in the adjacent apartments, that hasn't happened even once. The only con is the price, though even that seems pretty reasonable considering it is such a short walk to the T. For the area and convenience, I think what they're charging is fairly standard. read more

I moved in to this complex with my boyfriend in June 2013 and have had a fantastic experience! The management has been nothing but responsive and professional with us. We were even given a free underground parking space b/c they realized that above ground parking was getting too tight for residents! Talk about fantastic costumer relations. I love dogs but do not have time for one and thus, am not living in a dog-friendly building. I'm also a really light sleeper so I didn't want to introduce an additional potential element of noise. I have to say that I rarely hear dogs barking when I am walking, and there is almost never any mess on the sidewalks or anything. Great maintenance. I also love the stores and restaurants that are located within the complex. It's not cheap to live here, but for the same space and amenities in downtown Boston, we would be paying 2-3x the price. I am applying to schools right now and depending on the outcome may not be able to renew my lease, which makes me very sad. If I do stay around the area next year I will definitely stay, but am looking into getting a larger place within the complex. I highly recommend this complex and cannot imagine how someone could have a serious issue with management or anything unless they were relatively difficult people. read more

This place is going down the drain fast. Let me first begin with the robberies. In case you did not know, after Windsor bought the place, there have been multiple robberies. In October last year, there were robberies where doors were kicked down. We were not told for days about the robberies and even then, the management insisted it was a one off thing and these robberies were related. The residents requested to have the locks changed or cameras installed but nothing was done. Fast forward to January this year. In the spate of two weeks, there were 9+ robberies in multiple buildings. These occurred during daytime hours :-) Go figure! Again, it took them days to get their act together and replace the locks. If management had been just a little more concerned for our safety, they would have changed the locks in October last year and avoided the break-ins this year. But no, their primary goal is to protect themselves first at all cost. Residents' safety and well-being comes later. When we raised the issue of robberies, we were repeatedly told that break-ins can happen in any apartment complex/home and we are LUCKY that it had not happened before. No Laurie, I have lived in multiple cities and various apartment complexes - break-ins such as these don't happen in good complexes. And on top of that you tell us that we should manage our safety by whatever means possible. How safe does that make us feel? If I lived in a house, I could manage my safety but here I'm dependent on you. On top of the horrible high-handed attitude of the management, the quality of these apartments sucks. Window and door seals are poor so your A/C bill will be high in summer and heating bill high in winter. The walls are thin so you often hear your neighbors. These definitely look better than they are! If you bring up any issues, management tells us they are doing so much for the complex. But in reality, all that they are doing is raising rents and maximizing their profits. This place used to be nice with the old owners but now it is deteriorating fast. A big shout out to the maintenance staff at Oak Grove Village for the tireless work battling yesterday's 14+ ft snowstorm! They did an incredible job. I was nervous as I had to bring my husband home from the hospital after knee surgery today, but when I woke up and looked outside. I saw bare, salted roads and stairs! We lived there for just over a year, and it was a great experience. The leasing office staff was always very helpful to us, especially Bridget. The appliances could probably stand to be updated, but it truly felt like home to us. The onsite dog park and the park across the street make it a great place to have a dog! Had we not moved across the country for work, we would have loved to stay here! read more
