We lived here for almost two and a half years from 2017-2019. It was a decent place to live, though we had many issues. I noticed that there were a lot of 5 star reviews. I'm glad most people had a good experience here, but I felt like I really needed to take the time to document my experience in detail for the Yelp community. It has been over 2 years since we lived there, so the property managers may have changed, but the mechanical issue likely still remains. First, the positives. It was really nice to be right off the bike path. It made it very family friendly and definitely felt very communal. We were walking distance to Davis Square, and it was a nice and beautiful walk along the bike path. The movie and community rooms were really nice. It has a pool table, full kitchen, multiple TV's, and a massive table. The room was definitely under-utilized as I hung out there quite often! The maintenance team was also amazing. Dick and Evan were very skilled, prompt, courteous, and professional! They definitely went above and beyond the call of duty. They live on-site, which made thing super convenient and their off-hours response time super quick. My biggest complaint is a design flaw with their HVAC and hot water system. They have a single device that heats both the hot water and the central air. The apartment has an instant hot water Navien boiler that also provides hot water to heat the air. It can only work on one of these at any given instance. So, at any given time, you have to choose to have either hot water or hot air. Being in Boston with sub freezing weather, this was not acceptable. If you take a 15 minute shower, the apartment would not be heated for the duration of that shower, so it would be freezing cold in the apartment. We were a corner unit, so the issue was likely worse in our unit than others. This was especially a problem in January/February when the temperatures dipped below 0. We had a 2 year old living there, so the temperature fluctuations was definitely a problem. We ended up having to get multiple space heaters, which proved expensive to operate. I escalated this complaint to the regional manager of Windsor communities, and they sent their regional maintenance person along with an outside plumber. They kept repeating that the system is operating normally, according to specifications (see attached letters). Never once did they recognize the design flaw in their HVAC system, or apologize for the way in which the "correctly working system" decreased our quality of life living there. The management company is not very helpful or friendly. There was high turnover (I think because it was such a stressful job), and when we had complaints, they would typically try to tell us why we were wrong or change the subject. I was disappointed to find out that the regional manager acted in the same way as the on-site property managers, which makes me think that avoiding concerns and issues by trying to explain them away is a company culture issue that comes from the top. Other issues we had: - Recurring pot smoking from a unit below us - Fire alarms randomly going off in the middle of the night (seemingly just in our unit) - Lack of guest parking spots - People parked in our assigned garage spot, and management not stepping in when the tow company did not come - Difficulty getting packages. If UPS delivered something to the front office, we would have to pick it up by the time the office closed, or remember to email them. This was inconvenient and I suggested they get a storage locker multiple times. - Constant construction nearby. This affected our water pressure multiple times. Thankfully we got out of there before the green line construction really started to take off. read more

This is a wonderful place to live! It is safe, beautiful, convenient, and best of all, has an incredible staff. The person in charge of maintenance has worked for this company for almost two decades, I believe. He is friendly, trustworthy, and good at what he does. One day, he came up to fix my dishwasher, and noticed that I was about to take my trash out, and offered to carry it downstairs for me. So thoughtful! He is also available on call if you accidentally lock yourself out (which I did once). The leasing office staff is incredibly kind. And after shopping around for housing in Boston, I can say that this is rare but so important! During a tough time of transition for me, Allie Hajjar was especially helpful and thoughtful. She was creative in coming up with a housing solution that worked for me, understanding what I needed, and demonstrating concern for my well-being. Her understanding, along with a series of positive interactions with the property manager, Kristen Drew, was salient to my decision to renew my lease, despite having a long commute to work. Coming home to a place where I feel part of a community is worth it. There is a way to blend personal warmth with professionalism, and the staff at Maxwell's Green exemplifies this perfectly. I love the large grassy courtyard and the walking/biking trail next to it. I'm in a corner unit facing south, so it's sunny. There are balconies outside ever unit. Very dog friendly and option for garage or out door parking for a price. They are great at snow removal too. Feel safe and it's a relatively quiet. There's a doggy park on-site. Moving into Maxwell's Green in Somerville has been incredible! From Kevin and Chris in the Leasing Office to Evan and Dick in charge of Maintenance ~ they have all made my move exceptionally easy! The management and owners of this apartment complex are a total nightmare. My boyfriend submitted a complaint about one of the owners being rude to us in the common area a few MONTHS ago and just today while I was walking my dog behind the complex (the lease was amended after we moved that disallowed dogs in the open center grassy area), that same owner came up to me and confronted me about it! There was no one around and I'm walking down the still unfinished bike path (was told it'd be finished by December when we first moved in) and this creep gets in my face about how he lives here too and only had that one party in the common area. Not sure how that is a defense to be rude to residents, but on that same note, if you live here this CREEP will be your neighbor!! They've let contractors into our apartment even though we explicitly told them they do not have permission to enter since we would not be home and no one from the leasing office thought it might be a good idea to escort these strangers through our home. They've held onto packages that they SWORE were not delivered for SIX MONTHS!! You'll be lucky if the manager stays until their posted office hours to pick up your package anyway. They've made monthly changes to the lease that they just slide under your door for you to accept the changes and sign. (What's the point of signing a leasing agreement in the first place??) I guess "luxury living" means getting intimidated and pushed around by management and owners when you make a complaint about the place you pay way too much to live in in the first place. We've already found a new apartment and are moving out ASAP!! Don't be sucked in by the beautiful new buildings and brand new appliances! DO NOT LIVE HERE!! read more

While I am not sure if it will work out renting at Maxwell's Green, I must admit that I was very impressed with how thoroughly helpful and knowledgeable Emily in the leasing office was. Emily responded to my questions about the property immediately and patiently answered all of the questions I had; she never made me feel rushed. She also forwarded me to additional resources that would help me on my apartment hunt within my grad school budget. From what I've seen, not only are the apartments impressive, but the service seems top notch, too. I recently moved to the San Francisco area for a job and it gave me some perspective on life at this property. The price for a single is a touch high, but that double price is spot on. Once I experienced SF real estate prices, I realized how completely reasonable the price-to-sqft ratio at Maxwell's really is! I can't praise the staff at Maxwell's enough. They had to deal with me several times a week for any sort of nonsense and they were always cordial, professional and fast. Work orders are completed quickly as well. You're not just paying for space; you're hiring a team that helps you through the craze of your days. They're wonderful! I lived at Maxwell's through the 108 inches of snow winter in 2015. Their grounds team kept the great drifts at bay, working long hours to pile and haul the snow. Having lived in a triple-decker during the winter of 2013 when we shoveled feet of snow, this little convenience was truly wonderful. In terms of community, the folks living in our building were always courteous. I never had issues with noise, smells or sketchy folks. It was easy living. If I move back to Boston, I'll be back at Maxwell's. read more

For the price that you have to pay, the management staff is exceptionally useless in resolving issues. From the first week that we moved in, our downstairs neighbor harassed us with bogus complaints of noise. Multiple times we received complaints when we WERE NOT EVEN HOME. After failing to resolve things with management, this neighbor resorted to calling the Somerville Police on my partner. She was home alone, watching TV quietly. The Police told her that a neighbor reported a "loud party". Still, the management staff did absolutely nothing. The staff does not care about you or your well being, they just care about whether or not you are paying. Thankfully, we had no intention of putting up with this harassment and had already found a new place to live. It has been the worst living experience of my life. read more

We were lucky to have a friend refer us to Maxwell's Green in Somerville! Beautiful, modern apartments with excellent amenities (gym, theater room, computer room with *free* coffee plus a gorgeous community room that you can rent out for parties!) A quick 10 min walk to Davis Sq makes commuting to work easy - plus a shuttle bus in the winter months. The bike path is great for biking/ running and there is are 2 great parks just a few minutes from Maxwell's green if you have little ones. Above all, the staff are SO helpful and friendly - happily bringing a large package to your apartment for you, removing snow, keeping things beautiful - and they plan fun events in the warmer months out on the green. read more

My husband and I lived in this complex for two years. We recently moved out because one of our jobs required us to relocate to another state. Let me start by saying that Windsor is a wonderful management company and the team at Maxwell's Green under Michelle LeBlanc's leadership is stellar. It should be noted that a bunch of the negative reviews about Maxwell's Green on here dated prior to May 2014 were under a different management company and that makes all the difference in one's experience at this apartment building. I would know because when my husband and I were looking at the apartment complex in April 2014, we were being showed around by another team who told us they were leaving and that Windsor was going to be the new management team at Maxwell's Green. So now that you have that context, here's my review: The Windsor Team at Maxwell's Green sets the bar for service. Everyone on this team from the Property Manager Michelle, to the leasing agents, the maintenance team, and the cleaners are always so helpful, cheerful, and professional. Whenever I stop by the office they immediately stop whatever they're doing and ask how they can help. They are always there to answer questions and are very transparent about their services, their pricing, and also let you know ahead of time if they're going to be entering your apartment for services. They also leave a note to let you know if they've been inside your apartment to complete a service request. This apartment building is also set next to the Somerville Community Path which is just awesome. It's perfect for biking, running, and walking and you can just take this path straight to the Davis T stop. It's a scenic and pleasant walk making the 15 minute walk enjoyable especially during the warmer months. During the winter, Maxwell's Green has a winter shuttle that regularly picks up apartment residents to and from the Davis T stop. The team also always keeps the sidewalks and driveways clear during the winter months (they sometimes work in the wee hours of the morning just to make sure you can drive out first thing in the morning!). The apartment is also dog friendly and with a small dog park onsite, great for socializing with neighbors. They also have doggie treats for your pup at the leasing office when you stop by. Like many luxury buildings, Maxwell's Green has high-end appliances and modern rooms. The common space has a pool table and board games and Michelle and her team also sometimes organizes events like paint nights and movie nights on the green space. There's also a great gym with weight machines, free weights, treadmills, a bike, and a yoga studio. There are also yoga class a couple times a week in the morning. The team also notifies us of local events happening in the area. The computer room in the common space also has free Starbucks coffee and Tazo teas for your consumption while you work. Our neighbors were always friendly and respectful and we never had any issues with noise (although if you face the train tracks that might be an issue). Now that we're moving out of the area we took for granted how safe this apartment building is- there were never any issues of property being vandalized and stolen. This apartment complex is awesome and the Windsor Team is the Dream Team of apartment management companies. Check this place out, give them a chance- you won't regret it! read more

I moved in a month ago and I love it. Sunday we watched Game of Thrones in the movie theater and it was awesome. I find David and Ali in the main office to be really nice and laid back. They put up a sign in the elevator that says "Welcome Home"- made me smile. I am excited as I watch the pathways onto the forthcoming bike path extension take shape. They just put the patio furniture out on the shared roof deck and I can't wait to use it (come on spring!). Gym is okay. I wish there was a rowing machine and more weights but I am able to log some cardio in there so I can't complain. I haven't met many neighbors yet but I am optimistic that they are a friendly bunch. The appliances, floor and fixtures/finishes in the unit are sturdy and high performing. I love my apartment everyday. It is a little bit of the feeling of being in a hotel. My building is the last one up (I imagine the early tenants dealt with lots of construction noises) and is very quiet, save for a few dogs. There is a dog living near the elevator on 1st floor, and one just moved across from me on 2. Basically anytime you walk near the apartments the dogs go berserk. I credit MG for not discriminating against pet owners, but I question pet owners with barking dogs who move them into shared living situations. Dogs bark when they are stressed because they feel invaded and are protecting the home. Poor doggies will be constantly stressed here! read more

So my company just opened a new office in Boston and I chose to relocate. I looked at 2 other apartments before falling in love with this place. The amenities are top notch and the team is very helpful and responsive. I know that I am not the easiest tenant to deal with (with the occasional odd requests and what not), but the staff is always there to help me and accommodate me in any way they can. I think it took around 2 visits to the office before everyone knew my name and my apartment. As more and more people start to move in, I am finding my neighbors to be very nice. I even have been invited out for drinks on several occasions. Being new to the neighborhood and living in a social environment such as this one really helps me get acclimated to the new city. Last and perhaps most important, Maxwell's Green offers a resident portal website which allows automatic rent payments. I am notorious for being a forgetful person so this is a must have for me. A month after I moved in (first month was free!) I set up my account and haven't looked at it since. I definitely recommend. P.S. There was a shuttle to Davis last winter! From a current resident of three years (as of 2016): PROS Apartments are very high quality. Appliances are all middle/high end, stainless steel and energy efficient. Counters are granite. Floors are bamboo. Carpet low pile, padded and plush. Windows are large and natural light is great. Units have the feel of an upscale hotel. Kitchen has plenty of cabinet space, garbage disposal and attractive light fixtures. Bathroom has tile, good water pressure, linen closet, lots of towel racks and hangers. Bedroom is spacious, closet is walk-in. Full-sized washer and dryer IN each apartment, which you won't find in most places here. Energy efficient appliances are exactly that. My utility bills have never been this low in my entire life. Video security monitors are great. The pet policy is very accommodating. Neighborhood is lovely and reasonably safe-feeling. Residents are in the young professional / young family range, although there are an increasing number of college students moving in. Grounds are well maintained and beautiful. Snow removal is top-notch over winter, 24-7 plowing, salting surfaces, snow blowing sidewalks. They even sent crews around to clear our balconies when the blizzards hit. Gym is well equipped and clean. Cafe remains stocked and tidy. Center courtyard is gorgeous. Everything is kept immaculate. Maintenance is super speedy and efficient if you need something fixed or adjusted. Most of my calls were responded to in less than an hour. Office personnel are super polite and always helpful. Packages are accepted and held on behalf of the residents so no more missing deliveries. Really love this feature. CONS Mainly cost. The price is high for the square footage provided. Bamboo floors are extremely delicate and scratch with the slightest touch. Kitchen stove is electric, which is a serious downgrade if you've been cooking with gas your whole life. Hot water closet has substantial room for storage but management locks it and you're not allowed access a space within your own apartment. Kitchen pantry is five feet tall but only has ONE shelf. Bathroom linen closet is the same way. You have to assemble your own shelving solutions inside. Noise level can be high on lower floors. Walls are thick (no voices or television), but ceilings/floors are exceptionally thin. Previously rented a lower level unit and constant 24-7 pounding/dropping/hammering from upstairs neighbors became too much. Management graciously allowed me to switch to a top floor apartment. Highly recommend top floor if possible. Hallways can also be noisy on weekend nights. Front doors have a 1" open air space at the bottom, allowing voices and sounds to leak into your apartment. Also, there is a rail line which runs adjacent to the complex and you'll hear the train pass several times a day although it's quick and fairly muted from my building. OTHER REMARKS The guest parking slots are often full. With 184 apartments and over 300 residents, this is woefully inadequate. The solution was to purchase a Somerville City Visitor Parking Permit from the city ($10-$40 a year, depending on usage) and have guests park on the street outside. The two Zip Cars are a great resources but they're also rented out ALL the time, so to nab one, book at least two days in advance. Bathroom is beautifully tiled, but the grout is NOT sealed, so be careful or else prepare for extensive cleaning / bleaching. Having a tub is nice, but it's far too shallow to be of any use. I'm very petite but even so, a filled tub of water won't cover my legs, let alone allow me to soak and relax. Transit is somewhat close. Porter Square (Red Line and Fitchburg Commuter Rail) is a 20 minute casual walk. Davis Square is about 15 minutes along the Bike Path. Bus lines run along Highland Ave. and Broadway. Highly recommend getting a bicycle to reach public transit. RECOMMEND? I landed here when I had to relocate for work and simply took the quickest apartment I could find. It's a great starting point for young professionals and new families. Obviously you can find cheaper or larger places in the surrounding neighborhood, but the amenities, low energy bills, polite, responsive management and 24-hour snow removal practically make up for those differences. I enjoy living here and plan to stay until I can save up and buy a home of my own. read more

**Update** Various classes that were being offered such as Zumba and PRX have been cancelled due to a lack of interest. The problem however is that most tenants aren't aware of these classes as there is no notification or advertising for them. Since my emails to the leasing office have been going unanswered lately, I decided to post a message to their Facebook page suggesting that they put flyers by the mailboxes and in the elevators with the week's events so that other classes do not get cancelled as well. I also mentioned that I could help fix the display monitors that have been broken for months as that is something I do as part of my job. Apparently this was seen as negative press. Their protocol for dealing with such posts on their FB page is to delete the post and block the user from their page. So, they are censoring their own resident's ideas for a better community. They have been unresponsive to my questions regarding the block other than "We have a company that monitors all our websites. Was there anything negative in the post? If so they automatically delete and block on our Facebook page." Recently, I left work early to receive a package from the office. Since they generally do not stay open for their full posted office hours, I arrived early at 3pm. The door was locked with a sign that said "Will return at 10am." I could see Stella sitting inside the office so I knocked on the door. She looked up but did not answer the door. At that point I called the office to explain that I needed to pick up the package but instead my call was ignored. I waited 15 more minutes before calling again. At this point, Stella got up from where she was sitting to answer the phone and saw me standing at the door. She came over and let me in and said "sorry, we were just eating lunch." Like I said earlier, this was 3pm. That was when I noticed 2 leasing office employees were in the office at that time when I was knocking and calling. I didn't understand why they all needed to be on lunch at the exact same time at 3pm. I was pleasant, received my package and left. This was very frustrating to me so I emailed the manager about the issue. I never heard back. This is a typical response. read more

If you are looking for a clean, modern, stylish apartment in a great location, then look no further. Since I moved in a little over a month ago, I have had only good experiences. Where to begin? The apartments themselves are brand new, with stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, wood floors, and in-unit washer/dryer. I'm renting a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment ,and both bedrooms are spacious with good closet space. I moved to this apartment from a house that was more than twice the size, and I thought it would be difficult to adjust to the smaller square footage, but I find this apartment to be the perfect size. Also, Maxwell's Green is incredibly well-managed. The staff are friendly and helpful, and any time I've had any kind of issue or request, it was dealt with professionally and promptly. They are extremely well-organized, despite the challenges that must come with managing a brand new apartment complex. One of the best parts about Maxwell's Green is that it really does feel like a community. Many of the other tenants that I've met are from somewhere other than Boston (myself included),. Meeting other people who are new to the area, has made the transition to a new city much easier. I am in my early 30s, and there are a lot of other people around my age. I would say the majority of tenants are in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, and many have young children and dogs. Speaking of dogs, THANK YOU, Maxwell's Green, for being pet-friendly! We had such a hard time finding an apartment that would allow large dogs (I have a lab), and we love that not only is our dog allowed, he is made to feel welcome. There are dog treats in the office and a little fenced in dog play area behind the building. That's pretty much as dog friendly as it gets. So, I feel like I should also point out a few of the not-so-great things about Maxwell's Green, just for completeness (although the negatives are all minor). I wish it was a little closer to the subway, particularly for the price, but at least the walk to the subway is a pleasant one, along the bike path. I also wish there were a printer and fax machine in the amenities center. There are four big fancy shmancy Apple computers with internet access, which is really nice, but a printer/fax/scanner would be so much more useful. The only other drawback to this place is the price, BUT it is well-worth it. Yes, it is expensive. Welcome to Boston. I browsed through tons of apartment listings when I was looking for a place, and I could have definitely found something cheaper, but it would not have been nearly as nice or as well located. I'd rather spend a little more money and live in a great place in a great location. Overall, I obviously love this place, and would recommend it to anyone. Oh, and how could I forget the best part- there's free coffee in the amenities center. Every day. All day. :) read more

I've been living here for 3 months. I would recommend to talk to other residents. Here's what my experience has been like so far: 1. I made the mistake of listening to the sales person about the fact that the commuter train that runs by the building doesn't make any noise. That was a total lie. The train runs all night about every 1-2 hours. It's loud, especially when you have the windows open. 2. They also didn't disclose that the walls are basically paper thin. I can hear my neighbors loud and clear as if they are in the room with me. I've heard this from other people as well (whether the unit is above or next door, all equally loud). read more

My boyfriend, dog and I lived here for two and a half years and it was great. We only moved because we bought a house. The Windsor staff are super helpful and were available to help with even minor problems during off-hours (like a lock-out late on Christmas eve). Utility bills are very low and the amenities are amazing. When we were apartment hunting, our 2 bedroom in MG was the same or LOWER than the traditional 3-family, all-one-floor Somerville & Cambridge apartments that have zero amenities & high utilities. We made many life-long friends in the complex and you can't beat living right on the community path. I highly recommend living here and please feel free to reach out with any questions! Okay so I am updating my review since I have now lived here for 9 months and my boyfriend and I both love it here. I think there were some kinks at the beginning because the complex was new; however, things have been running much smoother in the past few months. We recently had a broken towel rack and maintenance was very fast to fix it. Additionally, the new employees in the office are wonderful, especially Stella, they are all very friendly and seem to care about the complex. The distance to Davis is somewhat frustrating during these cold months; however, the shuttle to the T station is wonderful. In addition, the complex is great at snow removal and making sure the sidewalks and roads are salted. Also, after the whole garage parking space fiasco I was moved into a spot in our building within a month so we haven't had any problems with parking since then. The only downsides at Maxwell's Green seem to be the lack of guest parking and distance from Davis. I would definitely consider living here again. read more

run away from this place and run fast. The reviews from two years ago or even last year does not represent how it is like to live there right now. The general management is so cheap that they let the grass go brown until mid July to save money. Two of the people in the office sometimes say things that make you wonder whether they are being sarcastic or plain incompetent. Yesterday for hours the residents had to flush their toilet and let their water run to get rid of the murkiness because they flushed the sprinkler system and did they warn anyone that this was going to happen?No, some people were caught in the shower. Dick from management is a nice person, sadly one person is not enough for good maintenance. Visitor parking is limited so your guests may have to park far way and take a cab to your place. It is not unlikely that you will be stuck with a neighbor with a dog who barks all the time . The appliances in the apartment break frequently. So glad were are out at the end of the month. read more

Before moving into Maxwells Green, I lived in another Winn Residential building in Charlestown (Mezzo Design Lofts). Though Mezzo was a great building, I am very happy that I relocated to Maxwells Green. You are always met with smiling facing when you are enter the office. More importantly, the team is very attentive to the needs of the tenants. They have amazing response time, which is exceptional considering the development is still growing. My living conditions haven't been compromised due to the final stages of construction and my apartment is great. The amenities are amazing. They really have created a great community. I am also impressed with the events they have offered to truly build a community here at Maxwells Green. read more

I'm looking for a new apartment, didn't really think of Somerville but the apartments looked nice online and where no-smoking and pet friendly so I went over to take a look. SO! I would like to update since my last stellar review. Things have declined rapidly at Maxwell's.... 1. My boyfriend and I were planning on renewing the lease and had been notified by the office that we needed to either renew the lease 60 days in advance or give notice to depart at the conclusion of the lease. WHAT the office failed to mention when reminding us (multiple times) of the deadline was that they were raising the rent!!! They told us just 10 days before we had to give notice! Literally insuring that we would not have enough time to find another apartment! SNEAKY. 2. Never EVER LET THEM PAINT YOUR APT. They are so nice about letting Maintenance do it for you but fail to mention they charge $100-$400 per room to paint it back. I was not aware of this exorbitant charge. Since there is a significant difference between a $400 charge and a $100 charge I enquired at the office for the paint color/brand that is used as well as having maintenance quote me to have them paint it back. I called 2 times. Exchanged emails 8 times only to be finally told "we do not give out the names or numbers of our venders. You are more then welcome to contact any painting company to give you an estimate. We just do not give out our venders information" SNEAKY. Do sense a mark up here? YES. YES I DO. 3. YOU can move in easily, but GETTING OUT IS A NIGHTMARE. Maxwells Green is a wonderful community! I moved to Maxwells Green from the west coast in 2016 and I have nothing but glowing remarks for how Ian, Natasha, and Michelle treated myself, Christa and my pup Patches! They have always gone that extra step for us and that goes a long way for me. The apartment itself was great! I truly wish I did not have to move but life happens. Being dog friendly is exactly what they mean, I never felt like my pup was ever a hassle and they all seemed so happy to play a bit with Patches! This community is so close to everything in Somerville, I barely had to drive. I could walk, bike and even take my Vespa all around with no real worries. I would go back in a heartbeat! read more

I visited Maxwells Green recently based on the website. I will say that the apartments were very nice (hence the 2 stars) but it certainly does not seem worth the money. One of the biggest pluses for me was that this is a "Smoke-Free" living - yet there were cigarette butts EVERYWHERE. Maybe people do not smoke in their apartments, but they are clearly still smoking on their balconies or outside and tossing the butts. What is the point of a smoke free policy if you don't enforce it? Personally, I think that is a very bad sign. Who knows what other amenities that are advertised will not be provided? read more
