I have been coming here ever since it opened and they only sold fruits and vegetables. Joe would give you samples of anything you wanted to try whether that be an apple, plum or if you wanted to taste every pear he had. Windmill Market has blossomed into an extraordinary boutique market because not only can you get your local fresh fruits and vegetables now you can get local homemade bread from local bakeries, honey, fresh salsas and guacamole, a wide assortment of Italian products directly from Italy and so much more. Every time you go he and his wife Rene are adding new products. I solely buy my produce here as well as my Italian ingredients. I have made some delicious meals all thanks to having this amazing market in our community. I can't speak highly enough about Joe and Rene they are two of the kindest and generous people I know. We LOVE this location!!! The owner is the sweetest! We witnessed him helping visitors to their car with their purchase. I love the "small town" charm and closeness that creates. Overpriced for the same produce available in other parts of Salinas. The produce is really good and they offer you samples of whatever they happen to have cut into or created today (salsa and guacamole). The owner and the person running the register were very helpful when I was there, and I bought several items -- including the mango salsa and the guacamole -- both delicious. Fast forward a couple of weeks. On my recommendation, my wife stopped at the produce stand to check things out. She bought a bag of cherries, 4 mangoes, and 3 papayas and paid $48! There were no prices were on any of the items. She received no itemized receipt so there's no way to tell if there was just one item that was outrageously expensive or if everything was overpriced. She was in shock and says she will never go back again. A week later, she went to a produce market (Mercado Mi Rancho) in east Salinas and bought the same items. She got twice as much produce for less than 1/2 the price paid at Windmill. We would really like to support Windmill, but not at those prices. read more

A detour from San Jose to Monterey Bay, and Wazes took us tgrough ild town Salinas and drove by this place. Made a U turn bc they assorted apples caught our eyes! When I stopped by Windmill Produce (Hwy 68 x Hitchcock in Salinas), owners Joe and Renee Murillo greeted me warmly and offered samples of their incredible fruits. You name it, they have it! They are both super nice, incredibly knowledgeable and have been selling top quality produce for decades. Renee gave me excellent service recommending apricots, strawberries, heirloom toms, figs, mangos and of course, their incredibly amazing mango salsa (Joe makes this every day from his fruit). I also couldn't resist a dozen of local, organic Glaum eggs. Joe gets up super early to select the best produce from local growers.
