I have been coming here ever since it opened and they only sold fruits and vegetables. Joe would give you samples of anything you wanted to try whether that be an apple, plum or if you wanted to taste every pear he had. Windmill Market has blossomed into an extraordinary boutique market because not only can you get your local fresh fruits and vegetables now you can get local homemade bread from local bakeries, honey, fresh salsas and guacamole, a wide assortment of Italian products directly from Italy and so much more. Every time you go he and his wife Rene are adding new products. I solely buy my produce here as well as my Italian ingredients. I have made some delicious meals all thanks to having this amazing market in our community. I can't speak highly enough about Joe and Rene they are two of the kindest and generous people I know. If you ever have a chance stop by and check out Windmill Market on Hwy 68 next to Topes Landscaping.

We LOVE this location!!! The owner is the sweetest! We witnessed him helping visitors to their car with their purchase. I love the "small town" charm and closeness that creates. The fruit was to die for. I don't think I have ever had peaches as delicious as here! All of the fruit was amazing! They also have delicious sodas, salsas, pastas, chips, all kinds of things!!

    Love, happiness, and pineapples!

These are truly the world's best artichokes, along with amazing snacks, plants, produce, and other delicious treats. Be sure to try the artichoke cupcake with cream cheese frosting. It's similar to zucchini bread, not too sweet, and yes, it actually has artichoke pieces inside. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and happy to answer any questions you may have. They offer artichokes in several sizes (extra small, small, medium, large, and jumbo), along with cooking directions, recipes, and tips. But honestly, these are by far the best artichokes anywhere. The leaves have so much meat on them, it's incredible. I cannot stress enough how amazing they are. What else would you expect from the artichoke capital of the world, from a family that has been doing this for over 80 years? They also sell cheese, fresh produce, spices, oils, jams, honey, homemade loaves of bread, and so much more. It is definitely worth the stop. We usually leave with a huge haul and start counting down the days until our next visit, because nothing else compares. And don't miss the artichoke food truck on site. We had artichoke tacos and deep-fried artichokes with dill dip. Everything was fresh, delicious, and not greasy at all. Stop by and pay them a visit. There is something for everybody.

This Farm is one of the original (maybe *the* original??) farms that started growing Castroville's famous Italian Green Globe Artichokes. The Good: *Bigger than the usual farmstand, as this place is pretty epic with tons of great stuff from not just their own Farm, but other neighboring farms and other local producers. *As fresh as it gets, as most of the produce is grown from within feet to a few miles away. *Artichoke cupcake was delicious! Seriously. Try it. :) The Meh: *Parking lot is smallish but it's ample. *Service was, well, it got the job done and not much beyond that. The Ugly: *Prices are a little high, but I still always try and buy a few things to support them. Conclusion: Definitely worth a stop if your traipsing thru the Central Coast.

You need to have more quality control on your products…read more I'm very disappointed with my recent purchase from Peninsula Produce. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I've encountered this issue. Every time I buy vegetables or fruits from your store, they turn out to be old and in poor condition. I bought a bag of wrapped romaine lettuce that I was told was fresh and new. However, when I got home and opened it, it was clearly old and wilted, as shown in the attached photo. It is not worth to return it as the trip is going to cost be more than 3.99. I hope you take this feedback seriously and improve your quality control. Customers deserve fresh, quality produce--especially when it's advertised as such.

You may have to hunt through some less-attractive produce in the bin, but you'll be rewarded with deals like oranges at $.49 a pound or onions at $.39 a pound. They also have interesting assortments of spices and somewhat random selections of other goods, particularly from the Middle East. It's not a big place and it seems to be pretty popular, so patience is usually a good thing when visiting and waiting for checkout. The guy who's usually working there is great and will often walk around asking if you need help finding things. I would recommend getting a receipt and double-checking your purchases in part because check-out can be kind of confusing in terms of what's been scanned or not, but I've found the prices to always add up correctly.

They have exotic brands from around the world along with rare and older brands that the big box grocery stores don't carry. I don't know how they do it, but the quality and freshness of the vegetables and perishables are top notch given such variety. We used to shop at Whole Foods in Monterey, and we like the small specialty shops like Elroy's in Monterey and Jerome's Carmel Valley Market, but Star Market is a combination of both worlds. Whole Foods has gotten corporate with an overemphasis on their own brands. Star Market doesn't really have their brand so they are extremely loyal to local brands which makes the shopping experience feel like a tour of Monterey County highlights. I also like the very practical way they're running their business. Few frills, very clean, and high quality. In fact, it feels very nostalgic to walk in, like a movie set from the 1970's which makes me feel that this is still a family owned and run business. If you're looking for a truly unique experience that is different from the Albertsons/Lucky/Safeway/Nob Hill sameness, then you have to do yourself a favor and visit Star Market. It has a Salinas/Monterey old fashioned charm coupled with unrivaled variety and quality.
