With so many other farmers markets in the country and Santa Cruz County too Marina is not my go too or favorite. Two of the vegetable vendors couldn't break a fifty. So I just moved on. Super majority of food vendors are serving Mexican food which is great...if that's what you want. No diversity. I get it, it's not about me, I'm sure many count on this market. So much more room for the vendors and buyers. The verity of sellers easily doubled which brings in more folks, win win. Salinas Valley being the Salad Bowl the veggie and fruit vendors are disproportionate too the food and gift vendors. Hoping that will change. Living easily within walking distance this is a perfect Saturday morning walk. Last words...community.

I've stopped by before to buy fruit, which was okay (ie, small), but this time, I walked inside the building. Holy toledo, Batman, the products were coated under thick layers of dust and had mouse traps tucked in-between and underneath! There were boxes and cleaning supplies strewn about, and animals lying around the food. I was afraid I'd spot a tail hanging out of a hole or see something run by my feet based on how many traps were in the store. There may not be any sure proof way to keep pests out of indoor-outdoor markets, but they can at least keep the place cleaner and more organized, like not leave cleaning supplies right next to the food. I was also surprised that the prices were steep for what looked like products that haven't been moved in a long time. Barn Fresh Produce is not worth the stop for me, but if you are dying for fruit, I'd stick to the ones kept outside and make sure to wash it well before consuming.

The only downside...no coffee dealers but then again, I go to ACME in seaside for the best coffee in the area.

Food - the goods at this market look spectacular. They are grown very locally...just leave town…read moreand you'll see where. Service - it's a Farmers Market. They're all the same. Ambiance - it's at the Del Monte Shopping Center parking lot. A mall. The only mall for miles and miles. (Carmel doesn't count. Maybe Seaside/Sand City is getting bigger and Salinas is a world apart) There are others such as the one in downtown Monterey à la Alvarado Street but this looks to be the one in the mall parking lot. Luckily this mall isn't full the majority of the time (if ever?) because the parking lot is enormous and provides enough space for vendors. Little pricey for a farmers market. However, I did end up purchasing some salmon fresh off the boat, brought it home and cooked it that evening. ~$30 per pound so like I said, a little pricey. But dang it was good. The "Del Monte Market" location and the "Monterey" market are the same place according to the website. The parking lot of the mall. Who knows...
