I visited last Friday and caught a great band. In general the Windjammer is a super place to catch live music on the beach. They book great bands, and the bartenders deserve 5 stars. I would not try to check out a band if you are with a larger party or want to stay more than and hour or two. The management and security here are in the 1 star rating department. I was in here with a group of friends sitting at a couple of tables, spending a bunch on drinks and food and they hassled us and would not let us watch our friends in the band at the same tables. They insisted we move for reservations, yet there were open tables all around. The management was very thoughtless and easily could have accommodated everyone and all objectives. It is a shame as the Windjammer is in a sweet location and obviously can get other things right. read more

This is where you go for some good food and a lot of it! As frequent visitors of Misquamicut beach, this is the place we go for great food, environment, and service. I ordered the fish and chips platter and a mango margarita. I always get fish and chips when we go out for seafood and these are the best fish and chips I've had in a while. Also, the margarita was strong and had a delicious flavor throughout. Overall, the food was delicious. The staff here is always friendly. They play the best music that always puts you right in the mood. The atmosphere is great and the view from the outside patio makes you feel like you're almost in the water. I can't speak more for this place besides it's just a great place to go. On a great side note, Dusty's Dairy Bar has moved right next to the windjammer and it's a great place to stop by and get some unique ice cream flavors. A beautiful weekend in New England in October and on our way from Watch Hill to our rental in South Kingstown, we stopped at the Windjammer Surf Bar because we had our Frenchie with us. This place is very dog friendly. We sat outside, but dogs are allowed inside too. The staff upfront gave our pup lots of treats while we wait for our table. The hostess kindly pointed out another table with a dog on our way by and they quickly brought her a bowl of water. We just had a couple of drinks and snacks (loaded hummus dip and wings and peel and eat shrimp). There were a couple of large groups that came in while we were there so it took a little while to settle our tab which would have been okay if we had a drink to sip on while we waited. Thinking about coming back in the spring on a nice day with pup in tow. read more

First visit here was eh. There was some idiot on an acoustic guitar playing horrible cover tunes. It was loud and awful. When he finally took a break I was psyched until they started blaring the Sirius XM Muzak with commercials. Wicked loud horrible pop tunes. It's a beach bar/restaurant. Play some reggae or good music. Second visit started off a little rocky but then took a turn for the better when the tall dark-haired bartender came on shift. The guy was totally on the ball and made great drinks. Very personable and quick. Food was actually really good. I got the hot Nashville chicken sandwich and it was freaking awesome. Also had some street tacos which were delicious as well. When I saw a DJ setting up, I was dreading some Jersey Shore shore type stuff. But the guy was actually awesome. My friends and I come here often - typically average a few times a month- always a great time!! The grilled chicken sandwich is so good and the tater tots- what's not to love about them ?! The pictures online were a bit deceptive, as it looked like a beautiful, relaxing place to have a meal by the water. However, the reality was somewhat different. We sat outside, overlooking what would have been a beautiful view of the ocean if it weren't for the random people sitting on a wall, facing us. They were eating, drinking, smoking (which was disruptive to a nice, relaxing lunch). Some were even staring at ua, which was awkward. I really love this place! The staff and owners are friendly, helpful and attentive. The bar is huge and there is also a bar on the back patio which is great for nice days. I love the brightly colored chairs facing the ocean with a view which is second to none! The Windjammer is a bit more than a bar tho as they also have the carousal, Dusty's Ice Cream, arcade, bumper cars and two other kitty rides out in front which make it a great place to not only go with your friends but also a good spot for families as well. They have live bands every weekend. Now for the food and drink... I've tried the fritters, onion rings, calamari and their fries and all were great but their fries are my favorite fries I've had anywhere! I've only drank beer there so I can't comment on their mixed drinks but I always see people with their bucket drinks and they all seem happy so I would venture to say they are probably good. After a week of let downs as far as restaurants go, Windjammer stuck out so much I actually bought a shirt after our meal! Because if I meet someone back home who's been there I'd love to rave about it together. My pictures don't do it justice though. I came to this facility with two girlfriends, we came because the menu looked pretty awesome and wanted to try some seafood. First off, our waiter was a little off putting. He used a lot of profanity in his language (including the F word a lot) and decided to tell us about how many DUI's he's gotten in Westerly and how Westerly cops suck and pull him over all the time. He seems very inappropriate as a lot of customers are probably from Westerly, and probably know a lot of cops that work in town. He seemed very inexperienced as a server, and unprofessional. He was attentive at first, but after we got our dinner we didn't see him for over 20 minutes, and had to ask another waitress to find him to get our bill. The food was not that great. Our tater tot appetizer was pretty good, but the cheese definitely made us all feel a little ill following after. I had the fried chicken sandwich, and the bread was soggy, and the chicken was so heavily breaded and fried that I had to peel off the first crunchy layer to get to the actual chicken. Normally I see, "buttermilk fried chicken" light in color with a thin breading, but this was very dark almost burnt and there was barely any meat inside. My friend got fish and chips in the fish was the same, it was so heavily breaded, crunchy, super greasy, and hard that she only ate a little bit of it and couldn't eat any of the fries. Our other friend got the Mahi dinner, and only took a few bites of the fish before she was done. All of the meals were pretty bad and definitely not prepared properly. My friends played it safe in both ordered canned alcoholic beverages, I decided to try a vodka and soda water. It actually tasted awful and I think there was some thing off with the soda water- probably from the tap? It tasted very sewery. Bad food. Odd service. Won't be back. read more

I would give 5 stars if it wasn't for it being very gluten unfriendly and the god awful smell. My poor friend was only able to eat a salad off menu. She opted for mojitos instead. We were offered a table and the area smelled like something had shi$ itself then died. We asked to sit closer to ocean. It was a little less terrible there. But what is that god forsaken smell? I ordered the mahi mahi with garlic mashed potatoes and a ceasar side salad. The fish was perfectly seasoned and had just the right amount of heat. It was topped with a pineapple salsa. I don't loved mashed potatoes but these were crack. I at all of them. My other friend said her burger was the most delicious one she's ever had. Server was attentive and friendly. I love this place in the summer time. I usually have a day off in the middle of the week. I make it a point to stop up here then. I can't really comment on the weekend vibe. I would imagine it's pretty crazy as the New England summer season is so painfully short. I love the setup here. I enjoy kicking back in the Adirondack chairs and having a cocktail. The food is pretty decent. Admittedly, I've never been super adventurous here. I know what the place is. I'm searching for a burger or some fried seafood. It's an excellent place to chill with friends and watch the waves in the summer time. It's a fun place in the summer time for me to decompress. read more

Great location right on the beach. You can watch the surf and surfers making waves on the water. The outdoor patio had a good mix of spaces with umbrellas and spaces without, with a decent number of tables and beach chairs. Even in mid-afternoon in mid-September there was a 20-30minute wait for a table, so this is a popular place. The parking lot was hectic, however, and the door staff checking IDs before entering could have been much friendlier (the parking + door staff were the reason for losing a star). The host and serving staff were quite pleasant. My biggest concern and reason for the second lost star was that the menus had clearly seen better days and were pretty heavily molded on the inside of the plastic cover; it was honestly pretty off-putting. Food-wise, I had an enjoyable meal. The clam fritters (3) + lobster bisque combo was surprisingly large. The lobster bisque was in a bowl (not cup) and positively laden with lobster. I would just suggest fewer green onions be added as garnish. The clam fritters were a good size but needed a tad more seasoning. I also ordered a caesar salad with grilled shrimp on top (thinking the appetizer combo wasn't going to be as big as it was). The salad was a complete surprise in the best of ways - excellent ratio of salad to croutons, cheese, and dressing. The shrimp were *perfectly* grilled if a bit pricey ($6 surcharge for 6 shrimp). Windjammer definitely gets a lot of things right, but tiny improvements could really help them shine. read more

Hostess was inviting and very understanding of our delay due to heavy traffic. Server (Maddie) was amazing and so friendly and courteous. Apps were good (had tuna crostini and wings) clam fritters were basically fried dough couldn't taste or find clams. Lunch was horrid. Fish & chips (basically a huge fish) looked unappealing and tasted worse filled with BONES! I had the lobster roll lobster seemed canned. Tasted awful. Fish tacos and salmon were ok. If Our server wasn't as sweet and courteous as she was would have made a huge stink. The atmosphere was loud (due to band) but the views are spectacular-that's what you're paying for. Made reservations for 7pm & we got there early , about 90 minutes. We asked if we can check in & sit at the bar & wait. The hostess said no we couldnt check in until 30 min prior, which was fine. We sat at the bar over 25 min before anyone helped us, this was right before " shift change" supposedly since that was the excuse we got. But others got severed no problem...We ordered a drink... no one followed up with us, they helped everyone else this went on over an hour. I asked the bartender who was always near us for a drink... He told us " Im the servers bartender , cant help you go find another bartender" WTF. I finally walked around the bar & explained myself & this guy was so nice & apologized , but thats besides the point. Went to check in for our table, the same hostess told me they overbooked due to the Labor Day holiday & I need to come back at 7...& I MAY NOT get a table, when I voiced a concern she told me " were busy, its Labor Day I dont know what to tell you" went back to the bar & tried to get our table at 7, which they said no more seats... I flipped out. They are the worst unorganized establishment , others were complaining & this place was a disgrace. We ended up getting a table, the server was cheerful and kind. Took a while for our food. My signifcant others fish/chips was good, but my fried shrimp was not fried, it was more like soft cornmill. Server never asked us for more drinks etc. this is our first time on Eastern Coast & doubt we will be back When we left & walked by the hostess, she told me " Next time just eat at the bar" So disgusted with this place & her. Very unprofessional Bathrooms inside the establishment were nasty, filthy and not stocked at all with Papertowels or TP Smelled like homeless urine, garbage everywhere...They were just as bad as the ones right out their front door.. the "beach" ones. We had a great time for brunch and a few rounds of cocktails at the Windjammer! It was a Sat in Aug so pretty busy and our server was attentive and sweet. We sat out on the patio at a table and loved how friendly everyone was, the people in the chairs along the wall were chatty and it made the atmosphere that much more fun. We were recommended to head here by our Foxwoods driver the night before saying it was the perfect pre and post beach spot. He couldn't have been more right!! This is one of the worst places Ive ever gone to in my life. I was in town for a little R&R and some good seafood, so I hit up this place. I had scallops ($24), lobster fries ($24) and a coke and got it for take out. I got to my room, and the lobster fries were soggy (it was literally a 30 second ride) and there wasnt enough lobster on them to fill a shot glass. The scallops were REALLY bad, and tasted like amonia... clearly they were spoiled. I went to wash that awful taste out of my mouth with the coke, but they forgot to give me my coke. When I called them to let them know all this they said there was no way the scallops were bad.. but let me tell you, they were BAD! What a hassle, and Im never going back to this place and I dont recommend you do either. read more

I've been coming here for over thirty years and I've never be so disrespected in my entire life. I don't know the name of the chubby redheaded security guy who stocks the beer but he put his hands on me for no reason other than I was being a little loud when I got excited that my cousins showed up. You don't put your hands on a lady who is a quarter of your size. It's completely unacceptable and I feel uncomfortable about the whole situation. I've literally dreamed of renting this place out for my wedding since I have been 3 years old... tonight those plans disintegrated because it was always a safe place full of great memories and now I don't even feel comfortable walking through to use the bathroom. Not only does the food completely suck compared to the days of the old mozzarella sticks but now you'll get physically assaulted for having a vibrant personality. Won't ever be coming back again and this breaks my heart. Tonight alone I brought in over $500, let alone the amount we spent this week or the decades prior, and that will be the last time anyone I know ever patronizes this sub par establishment ever again. read more

Stopped in for clam cakes and chowder. The inside is very plain but was seated at a high top next to the windows(very dirty) and the view is spectacular. The staff and the view I give five stars. The chowder was a thick, white and a total salt bomb. The fritters were gummy and saw 1 clam in the three I ate. Food is 1 star. Beer was nice and cold. Recommend if you're just looking for a cold brew and great view, skip the food. read more

Don't come here unless you want your REAL ID thrown out. Came here with my family, parents, and cousins and all of us spanning gen-z to boomers were scrutinized for our IDs as these grown bouncers - hope they get a real fcking job someday - scratched the plastic off the edges of our IDs. Half of us faced threats that they would be taken despite our entire family being over the age of 21. We had to wait 40 minutes for the police to come confirm that our IDs were real. Absolutely horrendous experience, none of our 50+ sized local family will be returning. All servers & waiters were great this was solely our experience with the bouncers which was ridiculous. Thought we'd have lunch at a different place while in town and I'm so glad we found this place. Outdoor dining with an amazing view of the ocean. Can't get any closer to the beach than this. Because of covid, I think they're only offering outdoor seating but with a view like this, you'd be silly to eat inside. So for lunch, we tried the fish and chips, crab cakes and the fish and chips sandwich and some chicken strips for my little boy. The servings were massive! Even my crab cakes appetizers, which I ordered as my entree, were more than enough to fill me up. I had a piece of the fish and chips and it was very tasty. Also ordered a bunch of mix drinks and they were not stingy with the liquor. The staff were also nice and accommodating since we had a toddler with us. Great location right on the Atlantic Ocean. Tough to beat. But that is where it ends. I should have known to limit ourselves to drinks and possibly an app. at a beach bar. But my partner was hungry so we ordered some wings and fried fish. The wings tasted stale and were over cooked in old stale oil. The same went for the fried fish. The fish did not appear fresh and came out dripping with old stale frylator oil. Not good at all. Basically, the food sucked. The only thing good about this place is the view. The food has improved but unfortunately that is overshadowed by the terrible waitstaff. Due to the laziness of our server (there were only 6 other people at the bar with two servers!) our order was wrong and the food was cold! We actually had to call him over to even take our order after sitting at the bar for 13 minutes...mind you he was busy chatting it up with some other employees at the other end of the bar. Then while he was begrudgingly taking our order, other people he knew came up to the bar and he stopped waiting on us to have a conversation with them. Ok. I'm local. My son and I were working in the yard. Lunchtime rolled around and we wanted to go for lunch. My son suggested the windjammer, but we discussed other locations as well. I decided to give the windjammer a try. Went there on a whim, so we went there. When I got there was told I had top pay$20 for parking, BEFORE I EVEN ENTERED THE ESTABLISHMENT. Then I was expected to cough up more to eat there. WOW. I had to pay to eat at a restaurant. My son said they used to knock the$20 off of your food bill when you needed to park just to go to the restaurant, which it's ok, I would have done that. Just be prepared to pay an extra 20 JUST to eat there, without ever looking at a menu, or seeing the inside. We did eat somewhere else. read more

Spent our usual Columbus Week in Narragansett. Needed a change of pace so we took advice and headed 15 minutes south toward Westerly. We ended up here and were hoping to be able to sit in the water, but we weren't the only ones with that idea. Every table on the inside was full too as apparently this is the only place on the water still open there. As for the drinks, the we looked at the page of drinks and we went with the Bloody Marys. The bacon topped it off. Who doesn't love vodka and bacon? Awesome choice! Highly recommend if you're a fan of Bloodys. Service was quick which we were surprised with considering the amount of people. Our server/bartender was Dan and he was quick with frequent check-ins. Like me, he's a teacher, so was good at multi-tasking; and funny. For food, we decided to go tapas style based on his recommendations and ordered a table full of apps. The nachos were typical bar nachos, but the chowder and lobster poutine were awesome! This was more than enough food for three people. Needless to say, we left this place quite happy. We may have a new town to visit for our annual Columbus Week getaway. read more
