For a place that bills itself as a wine bar, don't come here if that's what you're looking for. It was a very small selection and very clearly not their priority. I was offered a glass of warm rosé since they had none chilled, which I declined. Staff didn't know that a rosé should be chilled. When asked for a Pinot noir, was handed a Pinot Grigio. When asked for the red, was met with a blank stare and told it wouldn't be cold. No kidding, Pinot noir is not meant to be refrigerated. The guy said "I'm not a wine person, sorry I'm not familiar." Also, their claim to fame is Ohio's best buckeye but they were all sold out. The cherry cordial tasted rather stale. Rather disappointing way to kill an afternoon. read more

This cafe is ideally located and a great place to study (my thought is it's because most people are on the go with the drive through so the inside isn't overly crowded). There's plenty of seating with plugs available! I got the chai tea latte and although the proportion of milk to concentrate was skewed, it was still good. I also had their peach danish and it was flaky and had a generous amount of fruit in the pastry--it is unfortunate that warming the danish was not an option. Get Over Here Now!!! My niece and I stopped here yesterday when searching for an IV of coffee. The minute we stepped in we looked at each other and said 'Oh! This is perfect'. And let's face it when you walk in and see a case of gourmet chocolates and tables full of goodies - you just know you came to the right place. Recommendations and brownie points: 1)The chocolate covered strawberries are so good that I would come back for those alone!!! While temporarily stationed at Wright Patterson AFB, I found Winans Chocolate + Coffee Shop as my refuge during the cold windy and snowy days that I was blessed with while at Ohio. I've consistently ordered "Mocha" on their mug and had it "for here" (i.e., I always hung out at their store to either read some articles or just peruse the internet as I sip on a hot cup of caffeinated coffee). Mocha is a no-brainer because Winans specialize in chocolates, and they also specialize in coffee. Mocha is simply a concoction of both, and dammmmnn, they make it really good! Hot tip #1: if you get your drink in a mug instead of a disposable cup, they will automatically give you a 10% discount. It's awesome! Also, the people who work here are nice, I think I've met all of them in my short time here. Hot tip #2: Take advantage of their loyalty program, sign-up by giving your phone number registered so that once you've bought like 10 drinks, they'll give you 1 drink FREE, and it doesn't expire 'til 2021. The ice coffee is pretty decent. Never had a chance to try the chocolate yet. Have 4 stars because the female employee with tattoos all over her arm and glasses needs an attitude check. Not the best customer service. She's the only individual we ever had an issue, everyone else was super sweet and helpful. She was pee'd off because we asked if they also serve cake pops there but they don't. Was going there steady until the encounter we had with her rudeness, Kinda disappointing. Chocolate covered wine bottles. Yes that's a thing and they have it. Not sure how it works but it's so cool. The candy assortment is awesome and we had the Buckeyes and candy suckers. Very good and yummy. The coffee was amazing and I loved how they basically made anything you wanted without a up charge like that other crappy place (star junk). FYI, don't get the smoothies or milkshakes here. We came here the other day for some and the consistency of both were just too watery. My buckeye milkshake was basically a cup of chocolate milk almost... and for almost $5! You're better off going down to the Tropical Smoothie Cafe for a smoothie. I wanted some local coffee to send as a Christmas gift and many people suggested I come here. I've been to another location and tried some of their chocolates. So I figured I could try this location to get coffee and a treat for myself! I visited just before noon on a Monday in early December. I had no problem finding a close parking spot and there were only a couple other people in the store. They had plenty of space to themselves to enjoy their coffee and read or get work done. I would love to come back on a day without the kiddos and meet a friend! There was only one guy working and he was quite busy with the drive-through. But that gave me the time I needed to look through their selection and make some decisions. I got the Pecan Creme Brûlée Coffee ($15). For truffles, I knew I needed the Bavarian Mint, cookie dough and the Highlander Coffee. I also noticed a peanut butter cup crunch, so I had to give that one a try! For me, the chocolate was better than the coffee, but the coffee wasn't bad - just average. It may have been my drink choice. The chocolates are amazing. With a large variety of styles and flavors with excellent pricing. This is a great place for gift giving and home stock. The selection of wines available are mostly from California and Washington State but I can see how these varietals would complement the chocolates in-house. Okay I stopped in for a coffee and left with a lot of chocolates and wanting an Alcoholic Coffee, but I was driving. The coffee drink I did order was very tasty, maybe a little sweet, but still good. The chocolates were very very good. Almost worth the drive to come back up for these alone. Love it! My first review in Ohio and I chose right! Artisan coffee, fresh roasted in house, plus decadent chocolates and creative recipes for lattes and coffees alike! My goal had been to not frequent a place more than once but my coffee is special thing... Starbucks won't do, not when I can enjoy a locally owned shop that is 10 times better and much higher quality! Did I mention there's a drive thru for convenience and a wine bar on the opposite side of the chocolate display case!?! What the hell... If I find myself in need a study space for this class... I'll be coming here especially since they have two really quaint nooks with contemporary yet comfy looking chairs and tables that are quiet enough for one to actually think. Dayton keep it up! I was born and raised in Washington state (the Starbucks/mixed-espresso capital of America) and I actually teared up when I took my first sip of a Buttercream Mocha at Winan's! My friend has brought me chocolate-covered strawberries from Winan's a few times, and they are 1,000x better than Sheri's. Starbucks who??? Ever since I found this gem I haven't gone anywhere else for coffee. The baristas are very sweet and the drive through is quick and easy. The chocolate is very well made (yet a little pricey) but there are always sales going on. I appreciate the seasonal drinks as well as the many flavored coffees. I came in at the end of a long day with more work still to do. I had a cup of coffee and a chocolate to fuel the end of my work day. I've claimed before that I'm not a coffee fan, but Winans has become a regular spot for me recently for an abundance of reasons. First of all, they customize the hot lattes to the point where even this hot chocolate devotee can enjoy them. My favorite is the Milky Way - a blend of coffee, chocolate, and caramel (I get extra of both of the flavors of course!). Perfect to wake me up on a cold morning or to settle down with a good book. They have a drive-thru to make it easy to get in and out if you are in a rush. And the drive-thru line moves very quickly as opposed to some other unnamed coffee spots... The atmosphere inside is ideal to study or work out of. Plenty of seating and relatively quiet, but there is also a bar area serving wine that makes it a delightful social spot as well. It doesn't have that stuffy corporate coffee shop feel to it either. Very warm and inviting. Recently I tried a wine and chocolate pairing here with a few friends. They offer of flight of 4 wines (2 red, 2 white) and pair each with chocolate for you for $25. Good opportunity to sample a variety of different wines, all of which are available to purchase by the bottle. No set hours/times on the win and chocolate pairings, we were told you can stop in and do them anytime other than Sunday. And the best part about this place is definitely the chocolate! I've been a die hard fan of the local Ester Price candies for years, but Winans gives them a run for their money. Buckeyes and meltaways are simply amazing, so good in fact that I shamelessly can put away a whole box in one sitting. If you haven't been to Winans yet, give them a try. I went in for coffee, perused their chocolate selection, & glanced at their wine stock. Their coffee selection is good. They have a couple flavored coffees that are just flavored beans so no sugar. I went with the snickerdoodle-flavored coffee (the other was choco raspberry). It has hints of cinnamon just like you'd expect so I like it. They have packaged chocolate for sale & you can purchase chocolates individually. They mainly have milk & dark, some white. Overall, they have a modest selection covering the basics like caramel, nuts, toffee. I like that all the chocolates are relatively small so if you want just a couple bites, you won't be tempted to eat much more (=. The wine selection is decent but I didn't pay too much attention to it since I was just in for a morning coffee. The staff is very nice & friendly. The place is quiet & has a relaxing environment. Maybe it's because I frequent many coffee shops and see similar offerings of drinks, so I appreciate a shop that offers different and creative hot drinks. Their menu consists of coffees inspired by chocolate creations such as Buckeye Blend (a chocolate and cream coffee drink) or Jolly Java (a flavor mixture of chocolate, toasted nuts and whiskey). Their teas sound enchanting, with offerings such as cinnamon plum, coconut oolong, tangerine ginger, and many more. I am sold! The barista was very friendly, helpful, and patient when I ordered a white peony tea. They decorated their white shelves with petite gift bags full of chocolates, and their glass counter overflows with varieties of drizzled chocolate squares, bon bons, and treats like almond bark and caramels. Additionally, wines line their shelves from top to bottom, so they have a bar counter and a wide-screen TV to enjoy the wines and a bartender to help with making the best of the experience. I was in training at the Air Force Base in Dayton and when I travel I always go to local wine places so of course I'm going to try this place! Walking in you immediately get the smell of coffee, soooo good. I didn't go to the counter at first just to see if anyone would help me and a lady by the name of Joy came out and explained the place to me which I think is important. When I told her it was my first time she offered me a free chocolate to try to welcome me. I decided to get some coffee which they grounded for me and to do a wine and chocolate tasting for 20$. It was very good. Overall I really liked this place. The atmosphere and the employees are very inviting. The wine was delicious and so was the chocolate! They have a large selection to choose from. This franchise location opened just five weeks ago and I've been twice. Very nice insides and it can get extremely busy on Saturday's. The coffees are very good. It is too bad they don't have ceramic cups, though. There's just something wrong about drinking an espresso from a paper cup. The chocolates are good. The toffee, Bavarian mint and caramel all look the same and when we ordered the toffee and caramel we were given two Bavarian mint by mistake. The staff were very apologetic. They are new and it was very busy. I like the toffees and cherry cordials and my wife likes the "wurtles" (turtles). The price for both coffee and chocolate is reasonable. We have not been here for the wine, but will definitely have to try it some day. Nice addition to the Dayton area. read more

Everyone that works there is extremely friendly and helpful in picking things out with out being pushy to make a sell. The only reason I'm not giving Winans five stars is because of their wine. It's not spectacular in any sense. However, their coffee and chocolate is to die for--especially the coffee. Up to this point, I always went to Starbucks for coffee--until now. I never thought I'd say this, but I finally found a coffee place way better than Starbucks and one that has never disappointed. Now, Starbucks coffee seems mediocre at best. I think it always has been, but it just took going to a quality coffee establishment for me to see that. Highly recommend their blueberry brew, Irish creme brew, and Highlander grogg if you want fresh, undeniably good coffee. I love Winans but this particular location is not their best. First, when I get a frappe or shake at this one, it's so runny, it's almost not a frozen drink anymore. Also, the staff is hit or miss. Some are amazing while others are either bleh or just flat out rude. I have actually been told while in the drive thru that I was not as important as the customers inside and that I would be served when he (the employee addressing me happened to be male) had time. He said I could come inside but after that wonderful greeting, I took my money to Starbucks for the day. I rarely go to this location anymore. The one at The Greene is much more friendly and has never not had time for me. read more

Highlands latte. Wow. I'm not a "must have coffee" type of person but if I lived in this area I would be ordering this drink every single morning. The entire shop is beautiful with the most amazing sweet aroma in the air. With so many choices of coffees and lattes it's so hard to choose, but my friend loves the highlands and with good reason.
