She also does not like to admit fault and that made the process difficult. A few months ago we found leaks in two of our bathrooms, and in the course of repairing them learned that this contractor had not used waterproof membranes in the shower, which is mandated by NYC code. So now we are paying to re-do bathrooms that were only a few years old. In summary, I do not recommend this contractor.

We paid him, job continued. almost immediately we saw gaps and cracks in the wood work. Fast forward to the fall of 2018, kitchen has completely buckled, multiple cracks throughout house, and my kids have gotten splinters from walking on the wood. He has been unresponsive, despite a five year warranty he gave at time of service. We are now forced to replace the entire floor. We have moved towards arbitration / litigation, but DO NOT USE.

Given my time crunch, I didn't go through what is probably the "typical process" of showrooming etc. with the contractor, so my contact Sean walked me through my options via phone/text while I checked out options independently. He was able to explain the various product specifications and logistical plan, and always called me back to address my questions. I was given a quote that included a range of LVP pricing options that met my needs. Sean & the flooring installation crew even coordinated & assisted with the challenge of wrapping and moving my furniture around throughout the project-- jigsaw puzzle style to accommodate the limited working space, which was a huge relief! During demolition, some unforeseen findings from the original flooring caused a slight delay in the originally discussed timeline, but Sean was very responsive to my concerns. I appreciated the team's transparency, and the immense care the crew took to minimize any disturbance to the workspace, my belongings & neighbors. They cleaned up so well after each work day. As someone who went to a engineering-focused university myself, this was something that appealed to me. They're able to do minor electrical, plumbing, and drywall work in addition to the cabinet installation which is nice so you don't have to hire additional folks. One thing we really appreciated was that Peter and Lissa's estimated schedule for their work was spot on. In the end, we were super pleased with the final result! Peter's attention to detail in his work is second to none -- I wouldn't expect anything less from an RPI engineering alum. :) It's so hard to find service professionals these days who provide the quality of work that Basic Builders did.
