Can't beat them for their outstanding service, knowledge, and price. When we lived in North Wales, it was our one stop answer for typical homeowner challenges. Needed a new front door lock assembly for a 80 year old door - "Easy Peazy"! We moved to Philadelphia and we still come back. Just last week we needed knives sharpened. Wilson's was the place. As their service had already made their weekly picked up, the owner personally drop them off so we'd have the next week. We've had the larger knife for 45+ years, now sharp as ever. Wilsons reminds me of the hardware stores my dad used to take me to on Saturday Mornings. A true Mom and Pop place. They've got some really groovy "hardware store" items that, while probably available at the Big Boxes, would be hard to source out. The atmosphere is personable and they don't treat you like an oddity if you're a female. (big HUGE plus there). My five star review is based primarily on the outstanding service we received from their locksmith. After all of the recent scams involving decentralized unlicensed locksmiths, I was really really nervous when looking for a locksmith to do work in our home. I went with Wilsons on the basis of that they'd been in town forever and that the person I spoke to on the phone assured me that all of their "guys" were appropriately licensed. I was guaranteed of my satisfaction: "If you're not happy, come on over and tell us!" The locksmith arrived promptly ( the only person on moving day to do so, so right there, he's on the Christmas card list) re-keyed all of the doors in our new home and installed deadbolts. The service was reasonably priced and he was speedy and pleasant. Reminded me to let them know they'd done previous work if we ever needed spare keys or anything fixed. Had all the door hardware changed on our house yesterday. Wilsons did a great job. First, they came out and measured all the doors to assure that the new hardware would cover the existing holes. A lot of these reviews are about keys and locksmiths, but Wilson's is a full-fledged hardware store. I have always been amazed that they seem to have everything that the big box Lowe's and Home Depot have - and even more - in such a small space. I think the difference is that Wilson's breaks it down to the usable level whereas the big box boys just want to sell pre-packaged larger quantities. Example: if you are looking for any type of screws, bolts, nuts, washers, etc., the big box boys have a full aisle dedicated to it. They have to do that because they want to sell you a package of 100 of the same screw. Wilson's has a small section by comparison, yet they have more variety because you can buy what you need in the quantity that you need. If you can't find what you need in Wilson's, you'll probably have to go on-line to get it, because the big box boys probably will not have it either. I always go to Wilson's first, then go on-line. Big box visits only occur if I happen to be driving by and it's convenient and I usually end-up walking out empty handed. As for service; expect to be greeted within seconds of walking in the door. They try to immediately point you in the right direction or help you find what you want. I was a little concerned when the old owner (Wilson, I assume) sold the business a few years ago, but the service and selection has not changed a bit. read more

I had a very pleasant experience with Wilson's. I needed to repair a lock. I spoke with Charles, explained my situation. I was able to send photos of what was wrong to help him see what needed to be fixed so his repair person could take care of things right away. The repair person was out within the hour and fixed to my satisfaction. Price seemed reasonable. I've done business with them for several years. They are honest and local. Don't shop here ! Price gougers. They charged $10 to open a small box and did not even provide a key after they opened it. The box itself was not worth the $10 and they knew it, but did not tell my 85 year old father how much it would cost to do it, so maybe he might reconsider, when he asked to have it done. read more

Great company! Moved into a new house and, based on their good reviews, called them to "rekey" my locks. Boy, did they get more than they bargained for. It turned into replacing deadbolts and knobs (old house) for 5 doors and rekeying a 6th so that I had a single key for all doors in the house. They were drilling out old doors, some were steel... the work was arduous and very hot and it took them hours. They were cheerful and good-natured throughout; even declining the water I offered them (I thought for sure they'd faint dead away in that heat). And the guy was super-sympathetic when he handed me the bill and I almost fainted dead away myself (I was pretty naive about how much all of that was going to cost). It cost $838.46 and broke down as follows: $100 for the service call (I'm including "labor" in this, which was extensive, for three men), 3 locks rekeyed @ $66, 5 Schlage deadbolts @ $325, and 5 Schlage knob locks @ $300. To be honest, I have no idea how this compares, cost-wise (clearly I'm clueless about locksmithing), but I would use no one else. I can't imagine this could have been a DIY. I very highly recommend them! read more

In the time it takes me just to locate an employee (much less a knowledgeable one) in a big box store, a Wilson's employee will have solved my problem. I just moved to the area and wanted to get my locks changed. Five years ago I fell victim to an unscrupulous locksmith. They told me they could open my door for a $30 service call. Once they got there they said it could not be opened and that it needed to be drilled and replaced for a cost of $375. I had to do it, I was stuck for time and needed a lock on my door. The point here is I had no recourse this guy dissappeared. He worked out of his truck and was gone. This happens all too often. Wilson's on the other hand has been not only a locksmith but also a Hardware store with an actual storefront for over 50 years. If you have a problem you can go right to the store and talk to the owner. Talk about piece of mind. They also did a great job for a great price. I would highly recommend them. Becareful of the hucksters in there trucks big bill and they are gone. read more
