Then it was the "LAST DAY" (...for 2 days). The whole promotional scheme lasted into August. Upon a return visit in September I see instead of it being "Mahogany & More," now it's "MM Furniture." Same location. Same phone number on the signs. Same style of signs. Same cars in the parking lot (which tells me it's the same workers). It looks like the same truck that the big banner is on too. Plus, very similar writing in the "About Us" sections of the mahoganyandmore.com website and the mmfurniture.com website. Hmm... People were guessing they would merely change the name, and it appears that's what happened. I'm not going to research it further, but I'm feeling about 98% certain this was a store re-branding and not a store closing, as was advertised for months. Kind of silly. The lesson? The next time you see a furniture store advertising that their store is closing, be skeptical.

And honestly, I need to vent before my head explodes like an overinflated ornament. As many of you know, my wife and I recently moved into a big, beautiful new home. So, wanting to do something special for her first Christmas in it, I decided to surprise her by having the inside professionally decorated for the holidays. The plan was simple: we'd walk up to the front door after our Thanksgiving cruise, she'd see a single elegant wreath, open the door, and BAM--Christmas magic. Hallmark-movie level brilliance. Something she'd remember forever. Well... she'll remember it. Not in a good way. I found a company online called Black Eyed Susan in Doylestown. I spoke with Susan herself -- and in hindsight, the red flags were waving like a parade. But I ignored them, gave her a $25,000 budget, sent photos of the house, arranged access while we were away, and paid a deposit. Fast-forward to the big reveal. We pull up to the house, and instead of holiday wonder... We're greeted by two massive flower pots tipped over on the front steps. Dirt everywhere. My wife is already annoyed. We spend 10 minutes trying to lift the things before realizing the bottoms are ROUND. Not flat. ROUND. Who even designs pots that way? The answer: someone selling overpriced junk. But hey, maybe the inside would redeem things... right? Spoiler alert: it didn't. We open the door expecting Christmas brilliance, and instead--we get... A Christmas tree in the foyer. Just one. And not even a remarkable one. Literally just... a tree. And some droopy, wilted green garland that looked like it had fought a battle with a weed whacker and lost. That's it. For the whole entryway. We turn the corner into the family room, and there's another Christmas tree -- this one comically oversized, like it was trying to escape from a shopping mall. A few random glass balls dangled from the upstairs walkway. Four windows got lonely ornaments. And the mantle -- which on Susan's website looks glamorous and luxurious -- had the saddest strand of wilted garland you've ever seen. I've seen more impressive greenery at Home Depot in JULY. So for $25,000, what did we actually get? Two Christmas trees and some wilted greenery. That's it. That's the whole list. After a few days of trying to reason with Susan the Snob -- who, by the way, speaks to customers like she's hand-selecting decor for the Queen of England -- I realized something: My wife was supposed to get a Hallmark Christmas. Instead, I accidentally hired the villain of the movie. I even tried to be MORE than fair. I told her she could take everything back and keep $10,000 just for her "time." But nope. Susan the Snob decided she wants ANOTHER $5,000 from me. $5,000. For... what exactly? The dirt on my porch? Feel free to tell her what you think of that idea. He said since the vendor confirmed it's canceled, he should be issue the refund soon and will get back to us after the weekend. He never did. Called a few times the following week since I didn't see the refund, long hold every time and always told me they confirmed with the vendor it's canceled but somehow it's still not showing canceled in their system for a refund. On Thursday, another manager, Jeff, said he opened an IT ticket and need to wait for that to be resolved before they can refund. Called again today Saturday and Jeff pretty much said he did all he can, he doesn't know when it will be resolved and if I have a problem, call corporate customer service. I did and after one hour hold, was told the escalation team is busy and maybe they will call me back today. What a mess of store, they don't care about the customer at all. I am stuck with thousands of dollars in credit card bill with a canceled order.

It's silly because my item didn't even touch the counter I handed it right to her and she had so much protective gear on . I just think if it ever were to get busier than the 4 people in line on a week day at 11am, I don't know how they'd handle it. It should be the customer's choice. Regardless. There was tons of staff in store all stocking, none asked for help. Which is fine by me, but I know that deters people sometimes so it's worth mentioning.
