Been awhile since we stopped at Wilsons. Nice bar and fun to be in, bartender was very nice. Last time I had food there it was good, this time ordered a $15 bacon cheeseburger and it was just average at best, the bacon was burnt to crisp. We were driving thru Madison and stopped by Wilson's to watch the Browns game on NFL Sunday Ticket. Sports dive bar with tons of TV's. A huge perk is having individual TV's at each table, and the bartenders were able to put the Browns game on just ours which was very helpful. Pretty cheap drinks with most domestic beers and seltzers available. We got some food that was all deep fried. The mozzarella sticks were ok and hit the spot for something to munch on during a game. The inferno wings were a dry rub that had a spicy finish to it. Wings were very deep fried and offer multiple dipping sauces if you want. Overall a very good experience. If we are in Madison again and need a place with Sunday Ticket I would definitely return.Food was average bar food with good service, although you have to go up and order. read more

I came here with some coworkers for Sunday breakfast after work. It's always a challenge to find breakfast places open earlier on a Sunday morning so were very grateful we could pop in. I used to be regular at this bar for Sunday football and brunch. We had a bad experience 10 years ago where regulars were given peferential treatment, our friends got kicked our for calling them on it, and haven't been there since, until today. Well, it hasn't improved. We came in as a group. The bartender pointedly ignored us until we said something. A pitcher of Spotted Cow was $20, which is significantly more than all the bars in the area. When we mentioned this, we were told to go somewhere else if we don't like the prices. That's what I call "horse brutality". This is THE LAST TIME I enter this bar unless it changes ownership AND attitude. I may be picky, but I DON'T NEED THIS CRAP! read more

Saturday night is prime rib night. My order of a 12 oz prime rib was nearly inedible. It was ~75% fat. I complained but was still charged full price. Service was ok. Juke box was turned up so loud that you had to yell, which added to the noise. read more

We have been here a numbers of times with my in-laws on previous visits to Madison. We needed a quick dinner on the 4th and not much was open so we stopped here knowing taverns are always open in Wisconsin. It was somewhat busy when we arrived so we got in our order which was lucky because it got much busier. Even then it took a long time to get our two burgers. The burgers were ok. Nothing special. 2.5 stars- I kept wavering between 2 and 3 because I came here last night for the Bucks game and it was REALLY busy. The cooks were also running the food out and they were really nice and definitely doing their best. But I have to review based on everything, and everything was not great. As I said, busy night. We hung out outside and watched the game on the tv outside. I really like their setup outside, it's so cool to be able to watch games without being inside where it was SO crowded. I think lack of staffing might be the biggest issue here. I realize that it's a dive bar and therefore I set my expectations accordingly, but the service was chaotic and the food was really not good. My group had 2 couples and a single. We ordered our food and my husband and I got our food first. I'm glad we didn't wait for the others to get theirs because the other couple didn't get their meals until over 30 minutes after we got ours, the single got her meal about 15 minutes after us. Again, I get that it's busy.. but they just ordered burgers. Plus, and family came in about 15 minutes after we ordered and they got their burgers before my friends did. If the food was good, I would have just chalked the whole thing up to them being busy... but it really wasn't. The cheese curds and mozzarella sticks were SO over breaded and over cooked (just the curds), my prime rib was literally 1/4 fat and really over cooked and leathery. Green beans were canned and looked so unappealing that I couldn't bring myself to eat them. The horseradish sauce and au jus were good, baked potato was..... a baked potato. My friend's chicken tenders looked very pale and tasted like tenders from a bag at the grocery store that you made at home. When the other couple finally got their burgers they said they were okay. But definitely not worth the wait. The fries were good! Overall, this is a nice place to watch a game, especially if you want to sit outside. But honestly, go somewhere else to eat beforehand. read more

This review is specifically for the Fish Fry. I am still a big fan of Wilson's and will always recommend this as a top notch sports bar and an excellent place for a late night burger/beer. As always, the service was outstanding. Quick on the ordering, delivering, etc. The food took a bit longer than normal, but since the fish is freshly cooked, that is to be expected. The fish itself is okay (like a 3 star review). It was hot and freshly cooked, but lacked flavor. It is priced nicely, but the three piece might be a little light for some. The fries were good. I liked the coleslaw, but my friend did not. The slaw is sweet and a little spicy. I would recommend you try if you like. I will still be back to Wilson's but not specifically for the fish fry. read more

Great place to watch a game. It's been pretty crowded on the weekends when I've gone. Food is good and pretty cheap for what you get. My only complaint is that they charge an extra fee to use your credit card which is just one of my pet peeves - either take cards or not, but don't make me pay your fee. You don't pay my credit card fee or my gas to get there. I'd rather you raise the prices. Unfortunately, the servers are the ones who get hit on this whether they are supposed to or not. Shockingly rude bartenders who think it's okay to treat their customers in a disrespectful manner just because they're busy. When you call them out on their bad behavior they get defensive and refuse to serve you. I worked many years in the service industry and have a great deal of empathy for service industry workers. I was home alone today and craving some fish for lunch. I decided to checkout Madisonfishfry.com to see what they recommended for lunch. And Wilson's Bar was "Highly Recommended." I thought well let me check out the website first. I seen that they had a special on fish today $8.00 for 3 piece Cod with fries, Cole slaw and a role. Or $9.50 for 5 piece. I went in and it appeared to be a few older gentlemen conversing while watching the Cubs play the Giants. I ordered a Spotted Cow on tap and the 3 piece fish. About 10 minutes later my food comes out and it's piping hot! Their was 3 decent size pieces of fish here with some awesome tartar sauce. I started in but had to wait a couple minutes as the food was so hot. The fish had a nice batter and stayed together well with only a little bit of flakiness, The fries were good and very potatoey. The Cole Slaw was pretty good too. My final bill was $11.50. I will be back, their is a surplus of tvs and the bartender is super friendly. I've been to Wilson's a few times ranging from Packer games to New Year's Eve, and I'm finally ready to rate it four stars since on my last trip, for the first time ever, it didn't smell like old, burning grease. I had a doubly enjoyable time when I wasn't fighting for fresh air and looking through a smoky haze. I am a fan of Wilson's Bar. Unfortunately the only time I go there due to location is when I am waiting for a haircut at Atwood Family Barbershop next door. Whether I have enough time for food, or just need a beer, they are good at both. I have had a few different things off their menu including a burger and fries, chili, and breakfast. For bar food made on a small flat top right in front of the bar, it was pretty good. They have a good selection of beer on tap and in bottles. The bar tenders are always helpful and the prices are extremely reasonable. read more

I once saw him give a "down and out" women $60 to help her get by! Not many bar owners would do that. He said "pay me back when you can". Great breakfast on the weekends. Super value, 2 plates of eggs, hash browns, bacon, toast & coffee less than $15! If you're lucky Becky will be your waitress. Nice low key place. I was half mesmerized by the presence of TVs all around the wall of the bar. So if you're a sports bar type of person, this is definitely a must-check-out for you. The bar could use a few more bartenders - two guys splitting their time between making drinks and grilling the delicious food doesn't really work too well for a quick service. That said, their food is delicious. We ordered cheese curds, onion rings, and chicken wings for appetizers. All of them came out hot and super crispy and just darn good greasy delicious. Wilson's Bar is one of my favorites for sports. Anything Wisconsin affiliated will bring in crowds of regulars and new patrons alike. Televisions are plenty, some tables even have their own ~25 inch TV mounted on the wall above the table - extra bonus! The tap and bottle lists are fairly extensive with lots of Wisconsin microbrews to offer. Wilson's offer standard burgers and sandwiches with some nightly specials. The free popcorn in the back corner is addicting - and it's not oversalted like so many other places. Pro tip: if you're going to watch a highly anticipated Wisconsin sporting event, get there early! I came here during an event that was hella crowded. Even tho it was packed to the gills the service was fast and nice. Have pretty much every NFL game on at least 1 TV always willing to try to find a game if asked. Staff very friendly definitely a family business most times at least 1 bartender is a Wilson . I get that we weren't expected for the evening but there is no need to be rude with the group. There are ways to CE accommodating to unexpected parties. The Best Sports Bar in Madtown. Randy has one of the best fish fry's in Madison. Breakfast... simple, big breakfast at a fair price that will definitely help you get over the wreckage from the previous evening. If Mack is working behind the bar order a "Mackdriver". There truly are TVs everywhere including the restrooms and outdoor smoking area.
