Met a friend half way between Berlin and enfield. This place is CASH ONLY. they have an ATM if you need. Their business is 90%+ takeout. This place holds many remnants of its former life as the Golden Arches. But make no mistake the food was amazing. They had a couple of tables where there were no pizza boxes which they are prepped certainly prepped for. We order garlic bread mozz sticks medium Hawaiian pizza medium sausage pizza and meatball bacon calzone. I cannot say I didn't like anything about any of it. The blonde girl who was end of her shift kept coming out to check on us. Told us the large calzone was something new and yep critique it which I will .............. nothing short of delicious. I know a lot of people say Wilson Pizza has changed over the years but to me, it still tastes the same. While I believe that New Haven is the capital pizza of the world, Wilson comes really close to being at the level of Pizza House (located on Howe St, New Haven). Whenever I am in the 860 and craving pizza, which is rare, this is my go to and always will be. They don't take card which I guess I can understand but it is 2021 so hopefully that will change soon. read more

I'm still working extended hours at work because of Sandy, so I jump at the chance to get out of the building at lunch time. Today, I wandered down Route 159 and made my first ever visit to the Wilson Pizza Palace. I walked in around 12:30, and there were two customers ahead of me at the service counter (both doing take-out orders). I ordered, sat down in the huge and 100% empty dining room, and ate in solitude for the duration of my stay. No one else came in, except one sketchy type that came in to use the rest room. The menu is fairly big with pizza appearing in a starring role. Three sizes with 12 available toppings and the usual specials (Hawaiian, Vegetable, etc). Smalls range from $7.40 to $10 and the larges will run you $14-$20. They also offer sheet pizzas - $24 for a basic cheese up to $37 for the loaded "special". Also on the menu are 23 Grinders (half or whole), calzones, gyros, pasta, salads, seafoods, burgers and sides. Quite a nice menu, actually. I opted for a Chef Salad, and at $7.25 it was quite a nice deal - a huge plate of greens, salami, pepperoni, ham and cheese. Pretty solid, but standard with no "wow" factor. The cavernous dining room certainly reminds you of the building's former life as a McDonalds. All in all, a pleasant lunch with a big portion at a reasonable price. I got the sausage and broccoli calzone which was really delicious! The breading was more like a stuffed bread. It had big chunks of sausage and perfectly cooked broccoli. The cheese pizza was pretty average. Be aware that they only take cash. Luckily, they have an ATM right near the register. read more

Worse customer service ever they answered the phone with 1.5hr prior to closing time stating they are done taking orders for the night EXCUSE ME!! Why answer the phone then. Wilson used to be the best place to get pizza. I moved from Hartford years ago but every time I visit I have to get a pie from this establishment. I was so excited when I ordered my pizza. Finally, my mouth was watering the pizza smelled good. I knew I was going to enjoy this but when I opened the box I was really disappointed, my pizza was overcooked so bad until it was burnt. I've gone to Wilson Pizza too many times to count over the years and am amazed I've never left a review. Their grinders are large (a half will more than fill you up) and all of their pizzas are a perfect mix of crunchy and chewy (and they never skimp on toppings. The food is awesome here, and the plethora of customers in the shop at any given time is a testament to that. My personal favorites are the roast beef and tuna salad grinders; my mouth is watering just thinking about them! My wife and I stopped here for lunch on a Wednesday while driving on the interstate. We shared a small cheese pizza which was tasty (thick chewy dough). We wanted to sit at the corner table but it was dirty and sticky, so we chose a different place to sit. This pizzeria does not serve individual slices of pizza, and the restaurant does not accept credit cards (but they encourage you to use their ATM). Individual sodas can only be purchased from the soda machine. As travelers we needed to use the restrooms and they were poorly maintained. The bathrooms are terrible here. Stopped by for eggplant grinder and small Wilson's Pizza. Service was friendly enough. However, the grinder was not toasted, eggplant had too much breading but was plentiful. Ordered white pizza with broccoli, it was so dry! Didn't have any olive oil, garlic or ricotta. Just mozz and broccoli.....oh yeah and a couple stray green peppers we never asked for. Hamburger grinder with mayo, ketchup, lettuce, cheese and jalapenos. Instead of jalapenos, red and green peppers were added. I called the place and the man argued with me that what I received were jalapenos because theirs are red! He finally put someone else on ths phone who let me know they don't have jalapenos and that yes what I received were red and green cherry peppers. It really saddens me to write this review. My family has been going to Wilson's ever since they opened there doors over 40 years ago. The food, the owners. We're the best. It was known to all the locals as the best food around. As the brothers retired one by one the food and service has gone down hill. The grinders used to have filling end to end. The calzones were outstanding. Now the grinders are mostly bread and the calzones are even worse. What made Wilson's so good was there food and service. The owners hopefully will read this and really look back to what made them so successful In the past. Pizza crust has a nice crunch to it on outside/tad spongy where the crust meets the sauce. Sauce is very nice, perfect amount. Cheese is very plentiful, greasy and cooked well done. I can tell they were under new management bc the quality of the pizza really went down. No one ate there bc of the restaurant itself- it was a hole in wall and kinda of always dirty looking. This place used to be a McDonald's and now is transformed into a local pizza joint. Wilson's is very convenient to my house so I order takeout from here about once a month. I like the pizza here because it is a thicker crust than most other pizza places in the area--which is a feature I like (I'm not from New England so thin crust is new to me). I have tried many different toppings and all were good. I often order the chef's salad which include iceberg, tomato, onions, green peppers, lots of meat and cheese--they seem to be able to stuff a ton into a small container. It's usually enough for three servings if not the primary dish. I'll keep coming back here because the pizza is consistently good! Wilson's does not deliver or accept credit cards (there is an ATM inside) so get your cash ready. I have never eaten inside, I have always had take out. Not the same Wilson's! Since it's sale, Wilson's Pizza isn't the same. The service and their pizzas aren't as good as they use to be. The timeframe they give you for your take-out ensures that your pizza isn't hot when you pick it up. So sad! read more

This place used to be a McDonald's back in the day. I'm gonna have to make this a regular stop whenever I'm back in Hartford. They have great pizza, it reminds me of Golden Pizza on Silver Lane in East Hartford when it was still open. Next time I'll have to try a grinder. I have been to Chicago, New York and now live in San Diego and I still am yet to find any other pizza place to beat their pie. Maybe I am just biased because I grew up eating this as a kid. Heck, I even remember when it was a stand alone shop and it burned down twice, reopened at the kmart plaza and then took over the McDonalds when they originally flipped the golden arches upside down (classic!) They have built a credibility that has kept them around. 2.) Food: It is what it is. The pizza is okay, not typical New York/New Haven style, but I guess it can get the job done. Pleasantly surprised: I've been searching for great (I'll settle for good at this point) pizza in Enfield for over two years, tasting one failure after another. Finally, I asked a long time resident who told me to drive 13 minutes south to Wilson Pizza in Windsor. I called in a small spinach and pepperoni pizza. The person who took the order was short with me when I asked how many slices were in a small. When I arrived, the place looked like a dump. Had I not ordered sight unseen, I never would have ordered from there. = O. The grumpy gentleman who rang up my order barely said a word. We got the pizza home and it was still hot, looked good, and smelled good. The toppings were generous, the crust was cooked well, the sauce had a slight kick to it. I've been going here for close to 50 years. I remember the old place before it burned down. We used to drink beer at the Polish Home down the street. You could always stop in after WP closed. If they were still in there cleaning up, they would unlock the door and make you something to eat. THAT IS SERVICE...BAR NONE The food here?? Outstanding!!! The pizzas are a bit greasy but they use lots of real mozzarella cheese with plenty of meat toppings. (How can you skimp?) Look @ their first pic on Yelp. Their grinders are not overly huge but they are tasty. If you are a huge eater, or just wanna eat something before you hibernate for the Winter, get 2. The price is justified by the cost. Awesome pizza! A Windsor native recommended this place to me when I first moved to Connecticut. She had grown up eating at the restaurant and would routinely return for their pizza. I'm happy to saw the pizza lives up to the hype. We have ordered take out a couple times from here and have been happy each time. The large pizza is HUGE and very filling. As you can see from all the pictures the pizza is cut into square pieces but even though the slices appear small, they are thicker than a traditional NYC-style pie and very filling. While we probably lost some of the crispiness of the crust due to us getting take-out, I have still appreciated that the crust is crisp and must be amazing fresh out of the oven. I've heard the other food is really good here also but we've only had the pizza. We will have to dine-in for pizza sometime, I'm confident the pizza will be even better then! read more
