Let get this straight- THIS is the only place I ever want salmon/halibut/scallops from. It's always fresh! The marbling on the salmon fillets makes it impossible to overcook. The halibut just tastes so good I don't even know what to say about them. But the scallops... my gosh. The scallops are SO good. Obviously, the prices are a bit more than your typical store bought, but it is worth it!! Sometimes, they're even have some pepper smoked tuna- and THAT is epic. read more

We buy from the Redmond Farmers market and they make it so easy- fresh fish is pre-bagged into perfectly cut fillets and it goes into a slightly bigger sealed bag with chopped ice so it stays cool after you buy it. I was wary of the smoked fish but it is incredible- highly recommend taking some home to try (smoked fish comes in different flavors and the smoke is light and delicate, in a very good way). Beyond the exceptional fish quality, the family is kind and helpful and since they caught it, they're a great resource to talk about their fish. I recently served a beautiful piece of fresh king salmon from Wilson Fish at a dinner party. I got several comments such as" This is the best salmon I have ever had." Another reviewer complained about the price. I say, you get what you pay for. This is fresh locally caught fish. Tim, David and Gene are all helpful and friendly. I listened to a story on NPR recently that said nearly 30% of fish sold in the US is either mislabeled for actual type of fish, or country of origin. Based on a friend's advice (who shops with them regularly), I bought some fresh salmon recently from Wilson Fish at the Ballard market. I'm SO glad I did -- it was absolutely buttery in my mouth, bone-free and beautifully unsmelly (like some fish can be). (I think they even had caught it that morning.) The guys at the Ballard tent are fantastically friendly and helpful. Tim, in particular, is a fabulous salesman. Don't wait too long, though. When I arrived, about 4 hours into the market, they were already sold out of halibut and one other fish too. If I can help it, I may never buy from anyone else in Seattle. Keep it up guys! read more

Their smoked salmon is unbelievable! Gene & Dave will help you find the best pieces. I say go for the belly, it is the fattiest part. Before you eat it, let it sit out for 15 minutes (just like any cheese) to come up to room temperature. We regularly buy fresh King salmon from Wilson Fish at the Redmond farmers market. Can't complement them enough for the quality of the fish they are selling, and for their service. Yes the price is not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Like: Great quality of fresh king salmon, and smoked salmon. (Didn't try other fish we are just hooked on salmon). Their fish smells like the sea. No fishy smell like some other places. Gene and her daughter always welcome us with a smile, and pack our fish with crushed ice to keep it fresh. Not only are the owners some of the sweetest people I've ever met, but this is hands down the best fish we've ever had. The King salmon is succulent, the smoked salmon is light with just the right amount of smoke...and if they have halibut it is some of the lightest, sweetest fish around. Last Sunday we went to the Ballard Farmers Market. We saw Wilson Fish in their usual spot. They had wild salmon from Oregon for $22. We kvetched for a bit. Really, $22/lb?? Did we want salmon that badly? Couldn't we just got to Met Market or Whole Foods and get similar stuff for $1 or $2 less per lb? We just cooked the salmon. It's like a religious experience. My atheist husband has seen God, and he has scales and fins. Don't debate. Just buy it. You won't be sorry. We wish we'd bought more. Luckily there's next Sunday... read more

Mouth is still watering from the delicious smoked salmon I got at the Ballard Farmers Market last sunday. It paired amazingly well with a spinach salad and some fresh organic squash and fall vegetables. Tried some of their smoked salmon that they were selling at the Redmond Winter Market. They didn't give me any sales pitch, just a free sample of each of their flavors. The only smoked salmon I've had before has been low quality and sort of gross, so I figured I just didn't like smoked salmon. I was spectacularly wrong; this was so good and came in two flavors: Wine & Maple (my favorite) and Garlic & Brown Sugar. The fish is sooo fresh, it cooks to perfection in a foil boat over the fire. So juicy and tender. The smoked Salmon is to die for!

Best smoked salmon in Seattle. One of the only places in the city to get really fresh King Salmon and Halibut. Nuff said.

Wilson Fish has a dark side. Some of the happy, helpful fish sellers lose their cool if you dare to question prices. And anyone who buys from them knows their prices are astronomical. Once I questioned Dave about the price of some smoked "wild salmon belly" that was in fact nothing but fins (at $25 per lb.) and he literally freaked out. Weeks later i tried to ask the boss, Gene, about this and he offered to kick my ass. One farmers market manager says this Wilson temper is a real problem that's threatening the otherwise peaceful nature of her market. There have been several confrontations. If Wilson can't take criticism, do they have something to hide? I've been a regular customer at several of the farmers markets for many years. I know dozens of vendors. This dramatic refusal to take criticism is unique. Wilson Fish has some serious problems to address if they wish to maintain good will among their customers. I wish them well. read more
