It is run by a man who was an actual Force Recon Marine. (US Marines special forces) He was able to break down everything I needed to know in a way that was easy for me to understand and do. It was also fun! There were half a dozen unique areas for training depending on what you want to learn and a marked long range area to practice once you become experienced. It has up to a 1000 yard target (my new long term goal). I highly recommend them to anyone who is still learning how to handle firearms (like me) as well as anyone who is already a skilled marksman looking to challenge themselves. I'll definitely be back. I have taken every class that this facility has offered and participated in almost all of their special events, including an extreme long range shoot where we took 50 BMG and 338 Lapua rifles out beyond 3,000 yards. This is a training facility that places a strong emphasis and learning basic shooting fundamentals to the point where they are reflexive. Furthermore, the curriculum is constantly evolving, which emphasizes the value of retaking specific courses for further learning. I couldn't imagine training anywhere else. As a bonus, the membership program offers discounts on training, some free special events, and even some opportunities for private land hunting. The bottom line is that training at this facility is not cheap, but you are getting a very high quality product. Training with firearms at VX Marksmanship is comparable to taking swim lessons with Michael Phelps or boxing lessons from Floyd Mayweather: You won't find a better experience anywhere else.

I was definitely nervous day of but Damon eased those feelings once we got started. Damon gave us so much great information regarding how to get away from dangerous situations, how to stay alert and aware of our surroundings, what could happen if I was in a bad situation - lots of hands-on training and step-by-step instructions. Damon was easy to talk to, listened intently to our questions and answered them thoroughly with real life examples. I already knew shooting was not automatic for me. I had some bad habits. Well, maybe I had a lot of bad habits. Sandy assesses your level: beginner, intermediate, expert. Then he helps you make your gun handling and shooting MUCH more smooth and effective. In my case, I signed up for a private lesson. As a woman, I was used to shooting rifles (had livestock and therefore problem predators occasionally), but not my handguns. When I bought a new handgun, I wanted to get training on handling and shooting it, quickly, effectively, and accurately. That's what I'm getting. And can't believe what I've learned already to prevent jamming, to increase speed while keeping accuracy, etc. And his rates? Very affordable. And great gun range out in the country: perfect place to learn. Sandy teaches all levels, from beginners to professionals, from personal protection to concealed carry. I know a good instructor when I see one. Very methodical, starts from where you are, helps you correct what you need to, allows you to repeat until you develop "second nature," and then advances you to the next step to meet your identified goals.
