This is my dining area. Tiles started poppoling up about 2 years ago, after warranty. We had an extra box and laid it back down knowing we were going to need to address it later since Wilshire said it wasn't a foundation issue. Took bout 40 mins including taking the tile to the trash to rip the area off. Full tiles were popping up. Sometimes 4 at a time. This is just ridiculous and now I have to finish scraping this packed down powdery crap. Horrible tile work. Just horrible. read more

When a pipe burst, I had to do a ton of demo work to clean up the mess. I had a bunch of problems with my house over the last 12 years I've lived here... and they wouldn't transfer the warrant to me since I wasn't the original owner. Which meant I had to pay out of pocket for all their BS. In doing demo this last time, around my first floor... Found literally 100+ beer cans in the walls -- instead of insulation in places. Found lots of fast food wrappers, Gatorade bottles, and trash bags -- instead of insulation in places. Found a lot of places missing insulation... sure insulation settles, but seems there are whole sections between exterior wall studs where there didn't appear to ever be insulation. Unclear if the pipe would have burst if it had been insulated properly. Found a place where they used the wrong sort of 2x4 for studs, causing my upstairs floor to sag by about 2 inches -- now that has to be re-done. These guys will cut every corner. What they sell you is so poorly done, and the work is done completely unsupervised -- it sure won't hold up. read more

I bought my house almost two years ago, and since then, I noticed that the AC did not function properly in the second floor as it does in the first one (there is a slight difference). A few weeks ago, I began to notice that one of the rooms above (which is empty) was not cool at all. I decided to change the thermostats of it using Ecobbe thermostats. I hired an expert to change the thermostats, and he did a complete inspection of the AC. When he finished, he indicated many problems that the AC had. He considered that my AC was improperly installed, because there were so many cut corners in the installation, there were copper pipes that are poorly sealed, dripping pipes and the list goes on, and as a result the AC does not cool properly or efficiently. The AC units that were installed on my house can only manage 3800 square fits but my house is 4200. I decided to open a warranty request, and when the technician came to review the problems he tried to convince me that there were no problems and everything was normal. After showing him in detail all the problems I was facing, he decided to continue with my claim. Later on, I talked to the technician to find out when they could come and fix the problems, and he told me that there was nothing to be done because my warranty has just expired and that the installation of my AC is out of business. He practically told me that the improper installation was my problem now. I wonder how it may be possible for the builder to try to make the improper installation of the AC my problem, and to do nothing about it, just washing his hands. If the technician had been sure there was nothing to be done, he would had said so since the beginning, but he followed the process till the end. GO WITH ANOTHER BUILDER....awful. We had/have an issue with them hitting our sewer line when they planted the obligatory trees in the front yard. THEY TAPED THE PIPE AND PART OF OUR HOUSE FLOODED!! Had over 30k of damage to our home and contacted builder (via attorney) 'Customer service is very important to us...' and they say because we didn't save the pipe to show them they're not at fault. SEWER WATER, Pipe is taped and they say sorry were not offering you anything from all the damages. read more

We bought our home in the Vista Ridge neighborhood in Leander. I spent a lot of time debating how to write this review, and thought a lot about how a home is a very personal thing and that everyone expects something a little different than then next. I am going to attempt to write this review without too much emotion or personal bias. I gave Wilshire 3 stars, they get those for the following reasons: * We have a beautiful home that fits our family just as we wanted. * The house appears to be well built, so far as I can tell. * They did a good job with the neighborhood amenities and appear to have brought in a good and diverse community. * They were able to give us 95% of what we wanted without too much fuss. (This appeared to be very uncommon with a lot of builders in our price range when house shopping.) * Since moving into the house the couple of small things we have noticed have been rectified pretty quickly. They missed out on 2 stars, and here is what that stemmed from for me: * They make it pretty difficult to fix or change something unless you have it in crystal clear language on a document somewhere. Often as the expense of common sense or logic. * Their sales guy (the one we spent the most time with) came across as a bit of an alarmist. He was always chatting us up with tales of the worst possible thing that could go wrong. This is pretty terrifying when you are spending so much money on something. He also is pretty open with details of every person he has ever had any interaction with in the neighborhood. This is only troubling because it means that our interaction with him will likely become the fodder of his time with the next person looking to buy here. * They promised us a particular set of discounts (fairly major as far as I am concerned) and then tried to renege on that well into the building process. We eventually got it sorted out but it involved a lot of heartache and effort that tainted our home-buying experience. Here are my suggestions if you want to have a 5-star experience with Wilshire: * Get everything (really, every single thing) in writing. This is pretty common sense, and I did less of this than I should have which is where some of my general frustration came from. I would also suggest that you conduct as much of your business via email if possible. Our sales guy liked to handle things over the phone which may work better for you but at least follow up with an email and have your person confirm or dispute your understanding of things. Every item we had in writing we got fixed without any issue whatsoever. Everything that we took for granted we had to argue about to get resolved. * You will need to sign off on the plans before they get started building. Go over that thing with a fine tooth comb. If there is ever anything put in the wrong place, or something isn't finished out as you expect it you can have them pull your plans and you can make sure it was done just as you signed off for. * Expect your choices at the design center to run upwards of $10,000. We felt we were pretty modest on our choices. We didn't get granite countertops or hardwood floors, or other "luxury" items. We added some tile to places that normally had carpet and/or vinyl, we also spent a it more than I figure the average person would on electrical upgrades (we put Cat6 ethernet all over the house) but our options came to about $20,000 on a 3000 sqft house. So don't get comfortable with the price you see on the flyers when you are in the beginning stages of buying the home, there is a lot of other stuff that comes up. * Trust your eyes - I can't imagine how anyone could buy a home from out of state, we lived near the construction and came by often, we found numerous issues that were resolved quickly, but if we hadn't been checking in that would have been a big bummer near closing to find out things would be delayed because changes had to be made. So that's everything. I feel like you can get a great home from Wilshire, but they are a for-profit business like any other and no matter how much they espouse their dedication to you, the homeowner, they look out for number one. Just make sure you are looking out for yourself. read more

We bought from Wilshere in Sonoma Round Rock back in April and finally move in this week. The whole process was with ups and down but we enjoyed our discussion with our salesperson, Jeff Neidel. He is such a great and jovial guy to work with. We could have give a 5 star and recommending to everyone if throughout the process, everyone and everything is as good as Jeff. Couple reason this was not a 5 star - Their Design Center was not having the market trending designs. After sales support is average. We have a design issue and they only willing to pay some minimal dollars on material. - The whole process (buying - building - closing) could be more effective if there's more feedback on building progress from beginning till the end especially from Construction Mgr. - We still found 3-4 issues need to be fix 2 hrs prior to closing and delay our closing for 4 hrs. We acknowledge some of the areas we raised concerns could be a lack of knowledge (unsure what is the building code or minimal standards), but due lack of communications, we often first feel disappointed before they explained what's and how it will be done (afterwards). Finishing is good, but not in superb quality that you will not find some minor things that you think they could do better. But i am not getting a million dollar property so can't complaint for the price we get. We have some fixes during building and after closing but nothing close to as bad as one of the review in the past that worries us (as we found out only after we signed the sales contract). :) The key is, in the end we get what we pay for and we like it :) read more

Agree with some of these reviews--wE built a home with Wilshire in Pflugerville and it was a terrible experience. Kayla (sales counselor at the pflugerville location) was extremely helpful, professional and patient with us. Other than that, the actual home was built poorly. I've placed l over 15 warranties since closing on our home. From front door locks to electrical to general construction issues. A lot of cracks were sealed improperly causing rodents in a Brand new home. Paint job and sheet rocking was done poorly. My biggest mistake was trusting that they'd fix the things that they said they would after closing--thus needing to put in several warranties. When they respond to warranties it takes them weeks to complete ONE project. The Design center was awful. The design center consultant had limited knowledge on their own products. We were promised one thing and given the next (or the alternative option was thousands of dollars of upgrades). Needless to say I would never build a home with Wilshire again and wouldn't recommend my worst enemy to work with them. read more

We bought a home from this builder year 2007 - 2008 in Sugar Land Texas. This house has a lot of much issues in many areas. The toilets are sub-standard and make noise after a while. The bath tubs are also cracked. The paint is messed up in the house. The drive way sinks a inch or so. The bricks on the drive way all broke. The walk way leading to the house are all distorted and messed up. The air conditioner broke. The water heater broke. The pipe making a loud noise when turn hot water. I work with a lot of new Home Builders and Wilshire Homes is by far 1 of the best in Quality, Value and Customer Service. When you do your final walkthru before closing, the home is move-in ready. The Buyers are excited and proud of their new home. I've done walkthrus with other Builders that left have actually diminished the Buyer's joy due to so many items uncompleted. I bought my new-construct house in the summer, and I did have any not problem with the AC for the first few months. When the following summer came, I started to see AC problems on the second floor of the house. These are: - The AC runs for hours (it can run up to 6 hours straight without stopping) and the second floor does not cool. - The temperature does not drop when the AC runs. Quite the contrary, it rises. I have submitted several warranty requests to the builder, but they come during the morning, when the day is fresh (of course they will never see the problem with the temperature), and they tell me that everything is fine and everything looks normal. After several warranty requests, I started researching the AC models on my own, and noticed that the AC on the second floor was smaller than the first floor. I decided to hire an AC technician to evaluate the AC system, and this was what he found: Customer states that in the heat of the day the upstairs unit really struggles to cool down. 1.) Fan speed was set to low on the furnace for Cooling mode, adjusted to high per manufacturer specs 2.) Found system was only putting out 15 degree temperature split due to the fact it was low on refrigerant, likely never properly charged from original installation. Brought system up to proper refrigerant charge and we now have a 19 degree temp differential 3.) System is very likely undersized. Would need to perform a heat load calculation to confirm though. However 1st floor is 2143 sq ft and has a 3.5 ton system, the second floor is bigger at 2181 sq ft and is running on a 2.5 ton system. Heat naturally rises and high ceilings are also a factor. There's no way 2.5 tons is ever going to properly cool the second floor in the summer months when we're facing 100+ degree temps outside. When its milder weather the system will do fine, but will continue to struggle in the Texas Summer months. System is operating as normal as it can, however will continue to struggle until something is done. Also noticed system does not have any manual dampers for air distribution purposes. This confirms what I found, which is that the builder did not install the AC unit correctly for the second floor from the very beginning. When I talked to the builder about this, their answer was that it's not their problem. read more

Let me start by saying that I love my home. HOWEVER, Wilshire Homes has a 10 year warranty that is supposed to cover the repair of foundation issues. I have significant cracking throughout the tiles and walls of my home. Wilshire is not helping with the correction of these issues. I had a structural engineer assess the foundation last summer and he found a 1 3/4 inch difference between the southeast corner of the home and the southwest corner of the home. There is normal "settling" and then EXCESSIVE settling. Normal settling would not cause the numerous cracks I have throughout the house. Marvin Galloway at Wilshire has been very poor at communicating with me and has not seemed at all interested in correcting the problems. There are 3 other houses on my street with similar issues that are Wilshire Homes. None of the Meritage Homes are having these issues. This leads me to believe that somehow Wilshire produced a substandard product. I would expect in good faith for Wilshire to be more accommodating since this issue seems to be the exception. The customer service has been very disappointing. I started off by saying I love my home because I do. 7 years ago when I built it the customer care was exceptional and I would have written a glowing report. (if I had a Yelp account) Now, I am left feeling very disappointed and frustrated. If given a choice I would build with another builder. For what it is worth...... read more

Overall, we had an excellent experience choosing Wilshire Homes (formerly Plantation Homes). We built our house in July 2010 when it was called Plantation home in the Paloma Lake, Round Rock Location. We were living on the east coast while it was being built, so we had to put all our trust in Briana, our sales associate, in giving us feedback as the home was being built. She took pictures and checked on our house regularly during the building process. She did a wonderful job of keeping us in the loop. We were in good hands! After our house was built Mike has been wonderful taking care of any requests or questions with any minor maintenence issues. He even took the time to go through and set each section of our sprinkler system since we never had one before, and weren't familiar with Austin's dry weather. We love our house, and do not have any negative comments to make. Both Briana and Mike went above and beyond to meet our needs! read more

We feel as though we were taken advantage of and ripped off during the entire process. They held our home hostage at closing, charged us a closing fee that was unwarranted, and also ran away with way more money than this house is worth. On top of all that they took our realtor credit and put it down towards option costs, and have left us with repairs they say are "Non-Warrantable" and not there problem. We were pushed through closing, told lies, and left with a mess. We feel like they stole from us and left us with issues on the house unsettled. I have even filed a complaint with the better business bureau. It is just sad as there are horror stories on this street worse than mine... Go elsewhere! read more

We recently purchased a home with Wilshire Homes in the Austin area and are very happy and love our house. We worked with Briana through the entire process and she is just fantastic. From day 1, she was very honest and up front and answered all of our questions. She helped us estimate how much all the upgrades would cost us prior to signing any papers so we knew how much the total purchase would cost. She was very spot on. She is extremely responsive and helpful. Through the home buying process, we have gotten to know Briana well and even though we have completed our purchase, she still checks in with us. We bought a new home built by Ryland in 2012 and it was excellent, just not the location we really wanted, so sold it after 3 1/2 years quickly and a good profit and selected a Wilshire in Siena east of Round Rock. We spent some time selecting the house and found the sales person helpful and friendly during the sales process.......HOWEVER, as soon as papers were signed and money was paid, we became step children. Told one thing then they did whatever. With windows uneven and even towel bars, the word of the day was - "within tolerance" - theirs, not ours. Heard from some of our Wilshire neighbors very similar stories. It seems our sales person talks about the neighbors that say anything negative. We had about the worst sod job as I have seen and was told by the sales person he would contact the landscape company and call, no call. Our sprinkler system busted after laying our own sod and was told repairs would happen immediately, did not happen, so sod in jeopardy.Went without a dishwasher for two weeks as it was not connected properly. I think the bones (framing) are good, but the final product is sloppy and it appears it was just get it done and on to the next job. I completed a bad review at the closing and received a call from a member of management, but when I began describing our problems, he cut me off and said he was going on vacation and would call me back to meet face to face at our home. Over three weeks and no call, so I got the send off. Getting assistance is impossible after closing. We have numbers to contact, but takes a long time to get help. Can not in good judgement recommend Wilshire. read more

Terrible customer service. Questionable quality. No integrity. Built a house with Wilshire and had lots of issues through out that process and after. I'll detail some of those later. Current issue. My undermount sink attached to the granite countertop is coming unglued. Had a plumber come to fix an issue with our faucet and he said if we don't get it fixed soon the sink is literally going to fall off. Contact Wilshire through the webiste and say I know it's not still under warranty, can you just tell me who originally put in? I'll pay. Just need to fix. Never hear back. So I called around and can't get anyone to come fix because they all say if they didn't originally put it in, they won't fix. Talk to one place who I think really felt sorry for me. When I said Wilshire built it and I can't get them to call me back. She sighed. That knowing sigh that said "you're screwed". Said they had been installing for years and had never gotten a call saying a sink was falling off a countertop they had installed. She said they do get calls - it was cheap adhesive. A way to cut costs. She said I should call Wilshire and just get the installer (fabricator) name. So I call Wilshire and leave a message. Reiterate that I just need a name. I am willing to pay. Just need a name. Won't return my calls. And the original bulding process? Nightmare. Here are some highlights. We went through the change process and did detailed plans. Did they follow them. When they wanted to. Kid bedroom was supposed to have a big walk in closet. So we went out of town, come home and there is no walk in closet. It's like a big coat closet. What happened? Well they forgot to do an AC area for the upstairs. And now It's framed and it can't be changed. ?? Outside AC units were supposed to be against a wall in an area where there were no windows. Where do they end up? Under the bathroom windows on the soaking tub. Once again. Oh sorry. It's been done. Can't move it. Nothing like sitting in the tub when the AC units kick on. Sooooo relaxing. Another? Had some expensive Anderson patio doors put in at back of house. Anderson installer put in. Well we find out later that the Wilshire crew came and reinstalled cause they did't think they did it right. They had no idea what they were doing. We only found this all out after the doors leaked and ruined the wood floors. Oh - and that I had taken pictures of the door - by pure accident and had pictures after they were first installed, and then later showing that they had been reinstalled. Even though we were still under warranty, Wilshire said flat out it wasn't their fault and they weren't paying for it. Spent thousands on construction experts and attorneys before they finally admitted what had happened and agreed to fix. I could write a book on all the stuff that happened and all the stuff that was shoddy workmanship. All the stuff that is literally falling apart around me. Buyer beware! read more

I would like to say this review receives a 1 because I love the design of my home. My home was completed in May 2014. I have had structual problems a few months after moving into the home. I reported the problem and they sent contractors out to repair the subfloor on the second floor. I found the problem persist so I was encouraged to report the problem during the one year warranty time frame. I waited which was a bad idea. I have had contractors in my home since May 2015. The repairs are still not complete because they refuse to admit it is a structual problem and not a drywall problem. Its funny that the construstion manager brought his own contractor in to look at the problem and he stated the problem is stuctrual. I now sit after 10 months of attempted repairs with the drywall pulled from the ceiling in the downstairs master bedroom, carpet pulled in the upstairs subfloor, furniture covering my living room and dust from sheetrock everywhere. The customer services I have been provided thrughout this process has been horrible. I have met with other managers (Mike Bowers) who is very inconsiderate of the problem at hand and only requests to seek a cheap repair. I am very diappointed and frustrated with this process. I hesitated to say anything but I would not be helping others who either experience this or are considering purchasing from Wiltshire Homes. read more

Belterra Subdivision. OMG, worst new build buying experience ever and this is our 8th house. Smiling faces when you sign the contact, but after that, your on your own to figure things out. Don't expect return phone calls or emails either. During the build process, if you notice anything that is suppose to be in the house per contact, forget it, you tell um, never gets done. Same with construction issues, u tell um, never gets done. There is a communication breakdown between Sales Agent-Project Manager-Construction Manger. Don't accept their home with know issues, will not get done. Home construction is marginal. Would not recommend this builder to friends or family! read more

I would not recommend buying a Wilshire Home in the New Braunfels, Pecan Crossing subdivision. The sales counselors at that location are anything but professional as my husband and I ended up in an uncomfortable situation watching the two sales counselors bicker about submitting a bid on a home right before our eyes. Needless to say, the situation was very awkward and completely opposite than what we had anticipated. I also found it interesting that they have so much pride in the housing construction that they complete, that the sales counselor actually compared buying a car to purchasing a 250K plus home. Take note neither one of the counselors there have any certifications that any real estate "professional" should have either. After trying to get into contact with someone in a management position for at least 3 days, the original sales counselor we were unhappy with called us back and when we said we wanted to speak with a manager told us "you're talking to the right guy." However, I eventually did get in touch with the Regional Sales Manager of the area who seemed genuinely apologetic for what we had experienced, but offered no reason for us to ever want to step foot into one of their offices again. It's an easy decision for me, I will always spend my money elsewhere. read more

Since I wrote my comment on Yelp about our dryer vent situation, I have to say that Wilshire has come through over and above. They fixed the dryer vent problem, and then when I asked for a complete home inspection, they provided that to us. After the inspection, and the inspector recommended things that Wilshire could take care of, Wilshire accepted and completed the jobs today. I am very much impressed, again, that Wilshire came through, over and above, what we expected. I fully believe that Wilshire cares for their houses, and the people that buy them. Please consider Wilshire as your home builder. Just be sure and check where the dryer vents and that it vents to the outside of the house. ;p read more

We selected Wilshire Home instead of the lowest price builder in Siena, Round Rock in expectation of better quality. But we were disappointed. In order to save a few bucks, Wilshire Home used passage door locks for the bedrooms (except the master bedroom). This raised our concerns where else they cut corners to maximize their profits. The electrical works are substandard. The installed circuit breaker for the air-conditioner was 40 amperes instead of the manufacturer recommendation of 30 ampere maximum. My house is Burkburnett style. The front door lights were not adequate. Half of the driveway was in the dark with both external lights turned on. The house was pre-wired for telephone, internet and TV connections. Termination cables were hanging outside the building for the utilities companies to make the connections. But there was no AC outlet at the side of the building with all the cable terminations for the utilities to connect their services. I had to pay an electrician to install an AC outlet in emergency when I installed my internet service. I submitted my warranty claims more than two months ago, before the year end of the warranty period. I went through the claims with two Wilshire project managers. I am still waiting for the repair of the cracks on the foundation! read more

DO NOT buy a home from Wilshire, bought in Leander and they have horrible quality issues and do not stand by their warranties. Their contractors will give you the run around everytime they are out to fix something until the warranty period is up and then they find the issues. The sales guy is good and tries everything he can to help but once you buy it is out of his hands, the construction manager is horrible and you will get no where with this company. Do not buy from Wilshire Homes in New Braunfels. My wife and I recently put down 1K earnest money to secure a lot. We signed our contingency papers and proceeded to the design center to build our home on paper. The base of the home was 245K, what they fail to tell you is that once you get the design center (2 hours spent there), they will charge you for every single detail. Because what comes standard is not worth it. They give you bone stock colors and choices, so It forces you to upgrade to make an eye appealing home. We were staring at near 300k, AFTER THE FIRST MEETING, which there was scheduled to be 2 of them. There were 6 levels of details to choose from. We only picked level 2 items..... We decided to go with chesmar homes because all of the upgrades we chose in Wilshire were standard with Chesmar, plus a fully sodded front and back yard with sprinkler system. Came up to 30k less than Wilshire. We tried to get our 1K back and the project manager said no because they had to pay the design center for us to be there. When we were at the design center we were told that if we went over our time that they had to charge us the STANDARD going rate of $75/hr to be there. How does 2 hours @ $75/hr equate to 1K?! I am stinking mad at the greed of Wilshire homes, my bad word of mouth will cost them a whole lot more than what they could of paid me back in earnest money. I would highly recommend not doing business with them, unless you want to pay out the nose for upgrades. Bad customer service, hard to get a hold of, does not care about your needs unless it fills their pockets!!!! They will be very attentive until you decide not to build with them.
