Our aluminum gutters were installed with the house over 35 years ago. They were leaking and dripping water on those coming to the front door. We asked around the neighborhood to see what gutters others had installed. Universally, they said their "Leaf Guard" gutters were a disappointment, being hard to clean, grew moss on the outside, and generally a pain. We decided to replace ours with a "plain" style.
A friend, who hires contractors to maintain their rent houses, recommended Willy's Gutters. Mike was quick to respond and came out to make a visual inspection and listen to our concerns. He quickly submitted a detailed estimate for K5 gutters. We studied the gutter types and volume and decided to upsize to a K6 as they were closer to the size of our existing gutters. I had already received a review from another company who just used a Google Maps picture to estimate the project. Mike was far more competitive pricewise and seemed far more personable.
While there was an initial snafu with scheduling, the second appointment five days later was met on time.
At the appointed time, the two-man crew arrived, quickly assessed the project and began work. While their English was minimal, my high-school Spanish was enough, and when it was not, Google Translate helped clear up my questions. They were able to remove and install the gutters without disturbing my ham radio antenna cables. They also placed two extension downspouts to move runoff away from the foundation as our french drains had long since clogged.
The team was very (very) careful when handling the long lengths of gutter to protect our windows and siding. We will need to have our painters return and do some touch-ups given the new type of downspout brackets which are screwed in instead of nailed. The gutters were not nailed on as before--they use a new screw-bracket system which should make adjustments easier in the future.
After the job, the team did a thorough walk-through, and we only found one small shard with a nail. They used a magnetic broom to pick up stray screws. They removed all of the old gutters and downspouts.
The gutters are guaranteed for seven years.
The new gutters look a bit different, but I think we made the right choice. We don't have fascia boards, but they covered the rafters nicely.
Just a note: I thought aluminum gutters would not rust. They didn't. However, they do corrode over time. They were supposed to last 30 years--they exceeded that estimate. read more
