I have been coming to Willowtree Inn for years. The staff (including Kat, Christina, Ellen, and Jodi to name a few) have always been kind, helpful, and downright amazing. The two-tier deck along the creek is fantastic for those who want a serene outdoor experience, and indoors has a charm of its own. It's my girlfriend's favorite place in Stroudsburg (she always gets the pork with apples) and I love their variety of seafood. Entrees always come with bread and with a salad in their stellar homemade dressing. They recently began a Saturday and Sunday brunch. My choice came with their giant, home baked croissant with egg, ham, and cheese. It was absolutely delicious, right down to the potatoes and watermelon. I'm a big eater and this has kept me satisfied to the point where I am taking a very late dinner. When I placed my order, I asked for iced coffee. Jodi said she'd make a fresh pot and bring it to me in a glass full of ice. The coffee was not watered down and was superior to cold brewed coffee I'd buy at a hipster cafe. read more

Apart from being outside, we got the best seat in the house worth a beautiful view of the water & woods. The CONS: * It's DEFINITELY dated. From the outside, you know it's dated but as soon as you walk in, you're transformed to 1990s Poconos! Wood everything with mauve carpets. Plus, it just gives off a haunted vibe. * Although my mashed potatoes were fire, everything else seemed like it was frozen and quick thawed. The salmon was overdone. The prime rib was tasteless and tough. The haricot verts rubbery. AND they were out of the short ribs we had our eye on. Tell us that a soon as we sit down. * The drinks were weak. And I'm not really a drinker so it shoulda hit me but sadly, it didn't. * Parking is by meter and tough to find. Who serves a mushy pita, with boiled bland and unseasoned vegetables, topped of with the most disgusting liquid cheese sauce that tastes so artifical.. and markets that as a meal? Some restaurants ooze the perfect combination of unassuming charm and fantastic views. Sometimes, this can make up for occasional shortcomings in the food. Stopping in Stroudsburg on our back home from a Sunday hike, we landed at the Willowtree Inn. This cozy spot on a side street overlooks willow trees and a creek, while high ceilings and dark wood add a rustic vibe, while a guitarist/singer softly strums folk tunes. The menu is French influenced American cuisine, with a seasonal drinks list. Famished from the hike, we each went with an entree (short ribs for her, prime rib for me) and a glass of autumn sangria. The sangria was nicely tart and not too sweet; the short rib was meltingly tender and topped with a fantastic brown sauce while the prime rib was tasty, if a little heavy on salt. I had a "night before the wedding" dinner here with 15 people in my family. The points I am giving are strictly for the beautiful lakeside view we had. Be sure to wear bug repellant - the mosquitos were all over us and our food! When I called to confirm our dinner a week before (we booked several months in advance) they could not find my name in the system. It also became apparent that the first person I spoke to when making the reservation had not asked me pointed questions about group payment, selections, etc. that the woman I spoke to during the confirmation call then asked me. The real issue was the time we waited for food and quality of the food. We waited over 30 minutes for bread at the table, about an hour before salad, and another 15 minutes after that for entrees. Many people could not eat their food because the presentation or taste of it was so poor. Personally, I ordered the one gluten free item on the menu, which was rice and beans. There was zero flavor to the rice and beans, served like slop in a large bowl. On the side were 4-5 tortilla crackers. There were two sauces - one was sour cream (I am also dairy free and told the waitress this) and a hot sauce so hot I couldn't feel my tongue after trying it with my finger before putting it on my food. Even my husband (who loves very hot) said this sauce was so hot that it made the flavor bad. So I ate unseasoned, flavorless rice and beans. Several people had to send back their meat to be cooked properly. Those who ordered a scallop dish tried one bite and said it was disgusting. So basically, we sat for almost two hours waiting for nothing then night before my wedding. The menu looks beautiful on paper and doesn't come close to living up to the description or price listed. read more

Worst Food experience I've ever had in the Poconos. The Swedish meatballs or from the frozen section of a grocery store. The $42 veal dinner was so disappointing. It was dry and bland. Came in with a group of 12-13 people on a Saturday night at 7 pm. Not knowingly aware that the restaurant closes at 8 pm. As I am from the New York City area, I expected most restaurants to close at least 9pm. So rating service - 4.5 stars. Out waitress Christina was a true gem. She made sure we were all taken care as much as she could given the size the group and different needs. She warmed up a luke-warm hot cider when requested. She suggested drinks and exchange items in a timely manner. She was truly a gem Ambiance---nothing fancy. Very old world type of ambiance with wood panels, wood chairs. Very antique looking decor. Food- well...I had the following: Margarita- Did not like it at all. Returned it and tried the espresso martini, which was better, but not great Table bread- Tasty. One of the girls from my table had like 3..lol. She was hungry but the bread was good. House salad - basic but pretty good. Escargot - just ok. Yelp hasn't developed .5 ratings yet but Willowtree leans on the lower half of this scale. We were in the area and decided to try something new and discovered Willowtree after some yelping nearby. We made a reservation and got there on time and was promptly seated. Be aware though - the parking is off to the left of the restaurant on Ann st, and it's a one-way coming up to the restaurant. It's on a quieter and more desolate street, but the decor indoors is very nice. The service and setting gets a solid 4 stars, but the food was a bit lackluster. We had a party of 5 and I ordered the beef short ribs and a few of us ordered the prime rib. For appetizers we had the "colossal crab leg cocktail" that wasn't too colossal at all at a price tag of $19.95. Food review: Appetizer: Colossal Crab Leg Cocktail - not worth $19.95 as it was a bit of crab meat on a small plate with some cocktail sauce and saltine crackers, and some strips of romaine lettuce. Main courses: Beef short rib - 6/10. The beef ribs lacked flavor in itself but it was also overwhelmed by the gravy that resembles texture and taste out of the Campbell's cans during the holidays. Prime rib - ordered medium rare - came out a little more rare. Also lacked flavor and was covered in the same gravy they dub as "au jus". Was super disappointed that a cut of meat was so wasted being drowned in this sauce. This was also a 6/10. The mocktail was tasty, being that it was a bunch of fruit juices and some sprite but it was enjoyable. Overall, the interior decor was really nice as was our server, but the food was lacking in many categories. A charming restaurant in downtown Stroudsburg. We had one of the evening's specials, eggplant parmigiana. Very different than the normal breaded eggplant parm swimming in marinara and cheese that you'll get at a typical Italian restaurant. It was delicious. The dish was eggplant and cherry tomatoes sautéed in a wine sauce. Very healthy ! The service was great. The setting is on a creek with lots of outdoor seating. We go to the Willowtree for our special family occasions because we can always rely on it for great food and a seasonal menu. We have been to a couple of their Trivia nights which made the experience great with friendly competition. We made new friends the last time we went there. Sadly THE actual Willow tree came down recently, but it is still a wonderful place. The decor and layout is like visiting a big livingroom. If you prefer, get a window seat and watch the river out back. This is a "can't miss" local restaurant. In warm weather months, you can enjoy dining on the veranda. read more

Dined there for a second time last week. I ordered chicken francaise. The lemon sauce had an overpowering flour taste. It should be a lemon flavor. Of course, flour is needed to make the rue but too much flour went into this. I ordered this last time and found the same problem. Thought I would give it another try but it didnt work. I came here on a vacation and came here to eat with my family. First things first, if you are expecting a typical family restaurant (kinda like a diner type) this place is NOT it. It kinda looks like it even on the inside but it isn't. First we get there and the servers were very nice. Then we sat down and my first complaint is the menu is very limited I'd say about 1 page for entres and the other side of the paper they give you is appetizers, drinks, desserts, etc. I'd say maybe a better design of the menu would be nice. But the prices are VERY expensive. I got the small beef ribs and it happened to be one of the cheaper items in the menu, but it was still $30. Although I was looking for a more family friendly restaurant, once we got the food everyone seemed to enjoy. I thought my food was VERY good but they are a bit stingy on the mashed potatoes. Great bread and felt their soda drinks were bitter tasting. All in all, it's good food and I think a good place that has a lot of potential but there a few things stopping me from giving them a higher review. I'd say if you are going with a small group (4 or less) it might be worth it especially if you live around the area, but other than that unless you got the money I'd say it's better to go somewhere else. 3/5 for me. read more

Location, food, and service all deserve stars, and even more for being literally dog-friendly. The owner herself led us to the outdoor area overlooking the creek, right under the namesake willow tree, which she has designated for diners with dogs. She brought a bowl of water for my dog, and was as good a hostess to him as she was to us human diners! My friend and I went there for a weekday lunch. We both got sandwiches, one turkey and one tuna melt, and we added a side of fries. It was actually hard to arrive at those choices, as the menu was so good and varied with classic American and New American dishes. I had come here before with family, and ordered similar items, and all were good. I sat outside both times, enjoying tranquility and even a beautifully tiled mural on the back of the restaurant. Disappointing lunch. I ordered the Chef salad which the menu described as "Ham, Turkey, Swiss Cheese, Arcadia Harvest Lettuce, Carrots, & Vinaigrette." Perfect as the description only contained items I eat. The salad came and it contained tomatoes, cucumber, and olives which I don't eat. These items accounted for half of the salad, so I left hungry, unsatisfied, and disappointed. I wish they had served the salad described by the menu. read more

Food and services are both excellent. Sole amandine with lemon butter sauce is the best. Haricot string beans are perfectly seasoned. Carrot cake dessert is incredibly moist and delicious. The staff was so kind & as far as COVID safety goes they are by far the best restaurant I have seen while visiting this area. Our service was fabulous too but the food was gross. Not to be rude but it was bad. Like bad, bad. My medium rare steak was grey. The description said "hunters style" which I admit, I should have just asked our sever what that meant instead of googling it because I kid you not, my steak had chopped up dill pickles on it. & capers which I love capers, that was cool but the pickles?? Google did NOT mention that lol. It was an odd paring & flavorless to boot. My bf & I are big foodies & we both agreed the mashed potatoes were the worst we ever had. Bob Evans pre made mashed from the grocery store have more flavor. Granted, I read the other reviews before we chose this joint & they all pretty much predicted that our dinner was going to be awful & indeed it was but I didn't think it would have been that gross. I went to the Willowtree today during my lunch break. I live out of town and was told this was the place to go for an enjoyable scenic lunch in downtown Stroudsburg. The atmosphere is truly wonderful. The clientele are older and many business men were having lunch at the location. I was promptly seated on arrival by a gentleman at the door at a table with a beautiful view of a flowing stream and the iconic Willow Tree. I ordered a cup of peppermint tea and it arrived in a little tea pot with the accompanied tea cup and saucer. The tea was hot and perfect. I then placed an order for the soup of the day - a Seafood Bisque. The soup was incredibly salty and lacked any seafood. It was essentially a salty seafood broth - I was a little disappointed and only had a few spoonfuls. My meal arrived after removal of the soup. (The waitress did not comment that I had not eaten the soup.) I ordered cod and black beans as my entree with a side salad. The housemade dressing was delicious and the cod was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The black beans I ended up avoiding as they were extremely salty. All in all the service was fast and the food was eh-okay. I would try this location again to enjoy the view but definitely would experiment with other menu items. The Andes chocolate mint at the end of the meal did provide a sweet end to all the salt. read more

a day ago We were there last night...HUGE disappointment. We were looking forward to a nice evening. We got the opposite. We arrived on time for our 6:30pm reservation ..we were finally taken in at ten to 7 . I wanted the table by the water, but was told by grumpy server that there was a long wait for that table due to Covid protocol. They tried to instead split up my party of 5 into 2 different tables. Of course we refused, and they brought two tables together..it really irked me to see that the table I had first wanted be given to the next party less than a minute after we were seated. Our server was not at all friendly and gave robotic replies to our requests..kinda went like this: " we'll have the dim sums". "we're out of that". .."um ok then..he'll have burger" "we re out of burgers".. "prime rib ..?" "out".. So yeah it would have been nice (and smart) to inform the patrons of what's missing from the menu. When you leave people for 10 minutes to decide on a menu, only for for them to find out you're out of major parts of it ,not only are you wasting more time, you now have a bunch of disappointed people who are scrambling to find an alternative ,because the last thing they want is to be left another 10 minutes without an order. As she placed our sugary drinks on the Wrought iron table, it's spilled on to our feet through the tiny decorative holes . Not wanting to make a fuss we asked her for 2 cups of water since the sticky juice was now attracting bugs. She never brought the water. We got up to the bar and got it ourselves. Fast forward to the food. It was TERRIBLE. The crab cakes were complete bread, the so called New York strip was grey and overcooked. . Don't know about you but we like our steak seared on the outside and pink on the inside. Not grey on the outside and grey on the inside.. I gotta talk about the "mashed potatoes" ....If you're going to charge restaurant prices and serve instant mash, at least disguise it with butter and salt. The instant mash tasted like it was brought from a hospital cafeteria. As we went to look for own check and paid the bill we could not run out of there faster. Such a disparity from the first time I went there. Sometimes you get bad food , sometimes you get bad service... but when you get both , there is no excuse..
