    fish and fries

I'd advise you to go on a nice day or you could end up having a lengthy wait outside in the pouring rain for your order like I did. I was there on a Sunday afternoon, the food took a long time but to be fair, they were busy. We had grilled and fried fish and chips. I've had better and I've had worse. Lots of chips, pieces of fish on the small side and mediocre coleslaw. Their tartar sauce is good. I wouldn't rush back but I'd try something else off their menu if I find myself in the area. Friendly staff.

This is my favorite place to get poutine. The inside is very tiny and cozy and you can eat your food outside on a nice day or take it to willows beach just down the road. The veggie burger is really filling and has vegetables in the patty. The fries come unseasoned so you have to salt or vinegar them yourself. This is one of my regular places. Also very cheap prices.

Fish and Chips (cod) fresh from the fryer delicious as expected... 2 people, 3 pieces of cod plus one pop just under $30. Also enjoyed the shaded picnic tables outside on a perfect breezy summer day.

after reading Brad W.' 1st review of "Willow's Galley" I'm compelled to step into the breach and defend their honor. I'll start by saying this is a venerable establishment for good reason; Opened in 1980, a conversion from a vintage cornerstore (see archival photos within), I've been a faithful customer since 1984. Portions are large, you'll go away satisfied on that count. There is a wide ranging, nautical themed menu to suit all comers but the star for me is the "Halibut" burger: a more than generous filet served grilled or breaded (your preference) with tartar on a tasty bun with the requisite side of excellent coleslaw. The quality is in the cut and it is priced acccordingly. decor is ship to shore, and the limited interior seatting is all picturewindow perfect. outdoor seatting available as well. service is fast and friendly, the same fellows have been tirelessly in attendance for I don't know how long (they know my custom order before I request it!). Waits can be long at lunch or dinner, by 6pm in the summer, the line strings out the door and you may wait till near the 6:45 closing time to eat. While you wait, check out the sweet note scrawled on a strip of cardboard from 1980.. it's under glass by the front door and does harken back to a much more innocent time. charming. all in all, its a great outing to Estevan Village and it's proximity to our beach at Willow's as well as Uplands park. consider the take-away soft serve ice cream for your stroll. enjoy.

Great place to get a kids soft serve ice cream cone for only $1.60! My mom got fish and chips and it was a bit greasy but tasty

The halibut is perfect-just like I like it. The pieces are generous. One piece is plenty for the average person. The halibut is BC caught, which is great. Tasted fresh and delicious. I like the fresh tasting coleslaw. It isn't that gluggy sweet sugar & mayo combo you get at many places. It was just a simple cut up cabbage nicely seasoned. Maybe it had a little something else on it. Expect a line whenever you go because the word is out. The wait staff was friendly and working hard to keep the line moving. We found a chair up against a narrow wooden "bar" facing the water. It was quite warm so we appreciated the shade of an umbrella.

I got the albacore tuna and tempura cod tacones which were decently priced and filling - 2 was more than enough for a nice meal. The albacore tuna was prepared medium and fresh and flavorful, and the tempura cod is nicely battered. Both shared similar ingredients like the slaw and it was hard to differentiate the different sauces. Line was long - even on Saturday 4:30pm, it was a 15 min queue and another 10 minutes for food. Lots of ample seating outdoors only, so I can imagine it being more busy on a nicer day like when I visited.

It's all about the Chinese menu, which is not available in English. They do really, really good,…read morespicy dishes, including liangfen (which they were sold out of when I went), numerous cold dishes, and a good variety of spicy, fried dishes. I haven't translated the full menu yet, but am intending to. I was told the chef was from Tianjin, and it shows in how some of the dishes that are derived from dishes from Sichuan and elsewhere in China vary, such as a tendency towards more bean paste flavours, and less bright, clear, savoury spice; more muddy and salty, and not in a bad way at all. They are hesitant to make some of the Chinese dishes for non-Chinese customers, because they have had bad experiences with Canadian customers ordering things and then not liking them. Know what you're ordering, or at least be willing to accept and try to enjoy anything you get, without complaint. Of course, if you know how you want something made, tell them. Their chef is appropriately skilled to deal with such requests. Many thanks to the person at T.T. Mix Karaoke who referred me to Old Vic for better Chinese food than is to be found elsewhere in Victoria. I don't see the point in eating anywhere other than Old Vic, The Forum, Xiang Rui, and maybe Young Young.

The restaurant is located near the Bay Centre and is a few minutes walk from the Parliament Buildings in Victoria. I was actually intrigued at why there was a Chinese menu with fish and chips at the front. We asked the waiter what their specialty was and she said fish and chips. So we all got the combo for 4 and combo for 2. This had both Halibut, Cod, Chips and Battered Shrimps. In addition, they provided coleslaw with those combos. When I first glanced at the food when it arrived I thought that it would be tasty. However, upon eating it the chips were too crispy and the halibut came out too dry. The coleslaw also seemed like it tasted more of a cold salad as it didn't have any flavour nor any moist that could have made it better. I was overlooking at the other group that was eating in the corner and long and behold they were having hot pot! If I ever come back here I would love to try their hot pot but I wouldn't suggest coming here for their Fish and Chips. They do however give you 10% off if you check in on yelp. But I experienced better.
