Definitely not my favorite NJ mall, but it's convenient in a tight spot. I don't enjoy the crowds, which can be overwhelming during the holidays. And I'm not just talking about the normal holiday crowd - the Willowbrook crowd is maddening and unbearable once December 1st comes around. I tend to avoid Willowbrook from Black Friday to mid-January. I like their Bloomingdales & Lord&Taylor locations ... both clean and quiet stores; calm oases compared to the rest of the mall. The J.Crew and Banana Republic stores are also among my favorites, but I don't like getting to them. J.Crew is close to that "spa" area where, if you mistakenly walk through the center, you will be bombarded with offers to scrub your face, nails, or straighten your hair. Banana Republic is nice and big, but weaving through all the people resting (or sleeping) on the nearby benches isn't fun for me. The food court isn't anything special, but I still enjoy it. Decent choices, lots of seating (except, again, during holidays). The NJ Transit Bus is amazingly convenient though. It's the commute-of-choice when you want to go to midtown, without spending an arm and a leg for parking. There's usually a bus leaving every half hour or so, and they're pretty reliable, as far as buses go. read more

I really dislike this place and only come here as a last resort. There are many buses that have Willowbrook as one of their designated stops which just adds to the chaos inside this mall. In the main areas one will find the most misbehaved children of Essex County running amok. You can hear their "just because" screams a half a mile away. However, experiencing that can also serve as birth control. Take that as you will. Going to Bloomingdale's to return something? Good luck getting a salesperson's attention. The haughty attitude some of those women have would make you think that they are getting tea with Queen Elizabeth II instead of selling you clothes. read more

Let me say this, the mall is fine on the inside, and is a fine place to shop, but the layout is awful and makes no sense, it was like someone with no sense of direction designed the place. I like this mall. It has a solid selection of stores, including a Uniqlo (opened on 9/27) and a Bloomingdales, but I wouldn't say it's ranked too high on my personal list. However, I can say that it's an upgrade over the "standard mall" setting. It gets crowded, let me say that first. On the weekends, it's a pretty mixed: There are families strolling around, couples locked arm-in-arm, teenagers, the elderly, and everyone else in between. On the weekdays, there's a lot more of the "goth"/Hot Topic "rebel" kids walking around. Uniqlo, Ann Taylor, Armani Exchange, Express, Express Men, Banana Republic, Bloomingdales, Lord and Taylor, Rockport, Clarks, and H&M are just some of the outlets that call Willowbrook Mall home. As I mentioned above, you can't find many of the more pricier stores at most malls, so it's more of an upper-middle class shopping mall. Of course, you can still find Aeropostale, Apple, J.Crew, Hollister, Hot Topic, Macy's, and the other typical outlets you expect to see elsewhere. A lot of people seem to like the food options here, but there wasn't anything that really sprung out at me. Cheesecake Factory? Nothing special. It's sub-par food but the place overall is a nice atmosphere for friends and family after work or on the weekends. I'd say the same thing about Ruby Tuesday. California Pizza Kitchen? It's Jersey. You don't need a pizza chain. This may seem lame, but I do like the little drink station in the back part of the food court -- you get free refills the whole day as long as the date on the bottom of your cup is current. There's ample parking, so that shouldn't be an issue. Bus stops are scattered throughout the parking lots as well. read more

This used to be my favorite mall to go to while visiting my grandparents in New Jersey (of course my favorite will always be Garden State Mall) but lets face it this place has seen better days. It is the go to spot just to get some quick deals, by what you need, and get the hell on with your day. This is not a mall that when I am pulling up to seems very inviting, even when I walk through it and glance over the shops I don't get excited or want to spend anymore time than what I have to. I have to say that I enjoy this mall much more than most others I've been to in the region. It's clean, has great stores and the parking lot isn't a nightmare. There's really not much more you can ask for in a mall. We brought the dog here for pictures with Santa and it was great. There are definitely some people that brought dogs that really shouldn't be in a public space like that. No fault to the dog, of course but the owners should know better that if you can't contain your animal then maybe Petsmart would be a better option. The area to pick up the photos wasn't roped off like the line to get to Santa so it was a little chaotic. I like shopping here and its close to home. read more

Standard mall, standard stores, standard food court? Willowbrook Mall is convenient to get to from NYC, but honestly, the mall is just standard. A lot of the selections from stores like Banana are usually picked over. I prefer Paramus, if possible. The good thing is..there is always parking here. This shopping mall brings back a lot of memories. This was one of those places I used to go to, back when I was just a teenager . Being under twenty one and living in New Jersey, I was pretty much limited to places I could go to, so in a way, I became a mall rat. Well, to make the long story short, this mall has not really changed that much. It is still the same it used to be, except maybe for some little renovation. It has all the stores you usually see at a typical mall. But now, it seems that the food court has much more selections of ethnic food than before. New Jersey seems to have come a long way since then. Now Sushi is now as mainstream as ever. I do remember that before, it was only popular in the West Coast, and now it is all over the place. And of course, Starbucks. Well back then, there was no Starbucks, so this was a nice addition. And coming here during the holidays, it was so nice to see that they have a musical Christmas tree. It really made me feel like it's the holidays. Yes, one thing I miss about the Northeast is that it feels more like Christmas than the West Coast. Cold air, more Christmas decorations, pine trees, maybe some snow, etc. And I do believe this is like one of the largest malls here in North New Jersey. So one way or another, a lot of people come here. Even the New Yorkers since there is no sales tax on clothes and shoes. They should change the name of this mall to Ghetto-brook Mall. This place is a craphole! Only reason I go is to get something quick and that's it! Sundays are a nightmare since Paramus is closed and most of the cars in the lot are NY plates. People come in by the bus load (literally). They are trying to become a middleclass mall but with the million kids running around and car theft being high here, I usually go only during the day. They do have a couple of decent chain places: Cheesecake factory, Ruby Tuesdays but across the st there's Jose Tejas (which I love) and Houlihans. While visiting a friend in NJ, we decided to go to the mall. From the outside this mall appears to huge but once we got inside their wasn't as many stores as I had thought it however have all of the popular stores. The mall was very clean, cleaner than most malls I've been to. Again it has all the popular store most people like to shop at and a host of restaurants. read more

A pretty run of the mill mall. I liked that the stores were pretty upscale and well-maintained. We came in the middle of the day and everyone we encountered was nice. The food options here are a little dismal, which is why I am deducting one star. Great place to take a bus. Only $7.50 one way from NYC. The bus makes 2 stops at different ends of the parking lot, but I recommend getting off at the first and just walking by the time everyone unloads. While I waited in the Food Court I noticed about 6 of the 12 restuarants offering samples - it was chain restaurant taste-testing heaven! read more

This mall is great if you need to pick something up quick and grab a bite at a decent restaurant. The only thing hurting this mall is the parking availability and the fact that it is always flooded! I like that Bloomingdales is the anchor at this mall... This is pretty uncommon and adds a nice touch to the mall. If I was the malls owner, I would kick Sears to the curb and bring in a movie theatre instead to draw a new crowd to the location. I also recommend visiting Garden State Plaza instead if you have the time. The selection of stores is better. read more

Shopper at heart and living in northern NJ willowbrook was actually not my first choice until recently. I specifically go to willowbrook because of Zara and some other boutique stores. As my taste changes I find that this mall is perfect ! The best part is they are open in Sunday's which is a treat. read more

This place is great, it has anything anyone would want without a large amount of stores with hefty price tags. There are some high-end stores (BCBG, Bloomingdale's), but there are a great deal of affordable places mixed in (H&M, Macy's, Express). The food court is just ok, but food courts are supposed to suck aren't they? The Willowbrook Mall has a recently updated interior which is nice and has a pretty good selection of stores. Recently I've been questioning how great the safety at this mall is due to a shooting scare and security guards being dragged by a car in the parking lot. I understand that these things happen but I certainly don't want to shop somewhere where things like that happen all the time. Sadly it seems to be becoming a reality that nowhere is really safe. Also it becomes ridiculously busy towards the weekend and stays pretty busy during the week-good luck finding parking. The staff for the Easter Bunny picture are very unorganized. There was total chaos with the line, then out of nowhere, they yell form two lines. Now there's a mad dash and people arguing and bumping into each other. Not only that, I'm waiting in line, for 20 mins, finally reach the counter, only to find out the line was to pay! There is no signs informing the process and which lines are which lines. Terrible. read more

I realize times change,but back in the 70's and early 80's this was the mall to shop. The problem now is it has been over modernized losing the charm of it's former self,also has become a hangout for gang members so shopper doesn't feel as safe. The food court is inundated with all types of eateries from Chinese to Italian. Wish I could go back into time,and see this mall one more time when it was gorgeously ordained with mostly wooden rails and décor,now looks like a prison. read more

Now that I have moved out of jersey after visiting this mall for over 25 years I just thought I would look back and offer my praises from today's standpoint since I can't speak here my thoughts on what was once here. Though modells FYE and the book shops to name a few are long gone this mall still has lots to offer for everybody. From a nice food court with a ruby tuesdays and brio and Cheesecake Factory near Macy's. To your choice of Dunkin or Starbucks for coffee. To clothing stores to please anyone. To a nice selection of shoe stores and a Gamestop Microsoft shop and Apple Store for all you electronic junkies this legendary mall will always please any consumer out there and since they don't offer books cds or DVDs simply go to the nearby Barnes and noble or Best Buy for that. Pretty busy mall, it has a typical layout with larger anchor/department stores at the ends with a variety of shops in the middle and a food court to one side. There are a lot of name-brand type stores for clothing, makeup, and other items. There are also quite a few kiosk or cart style boutiques spread along the open walkway areas. Several restaurants and stores that are part of the mall complex are not attached to the main mall building, but are spread out through the wide parking lot area. Most of these restaurants (all big-name chain venues) are off in a group of their own with their own parking area. Navigating the parking lots can be annoying, especially since it gets very crowded at times and not everyone follows the same traffic patterns.Needs more variety although love the new remodeling look they have but its still not the best mall in the area that crown will always be the Garden State Plaza or Palisades Center In West Nyack which is my personal favorite read more

Oh Willowbrook.. I've been coming here since I was a young chap... I can remember as a teenager in the mid 80's checking out the ticket prices at Ticketmaster (I think it was called that...) and wishing I could afford a ticket to see Bon Jovi or Quiet Riot at the Meadowlands or Billy Joel or the Beastie Boys at the Garden... Or hanging out in the arcade with my friends.. Not a worry or care in sight, except hoping you had enough quarters to play another game of Donkey Kong or Dig Dug or Space Invaders.. Then, "Collect Calling" your Mom on the pay phone outside and quickly saying your name on the recording as "Come and get me!!!" so they weren't charged for the collect call and knew you were ready to get picked up. Oh, those were the days... Except for the new stores, it's pretty much the same mall, with a few changes - but the clientele that I see there has changed and it's not your parents, or grandparents for that matter, mall anymore... It closes at 9! Who ever heard of such a thing?! Can't believe it! Other malls close at 9:30. I can't believe anything still closes this early. Why even bother? They might as well just close 24/7 if they're going to just close at 9 when everyone still wants to buy stuff. Capitalism doesn't sleep and neither should malls. Not at 9 pm anyway. Anytime I come to this mall, it's because my sister (shopping partner) refuses to go to Newport. She prefers to make the drive up to Wayne because she says they "offer more". I have to admit they do have more options (Steven Madden, The Apple Store, Bloomingdales, Lord&Taylor,Mac) but damn this place is a madhouse. Okay, I WORK at this mall. and all the bad reviews written about this mall are by people who are either just used to Beverley Hill styled malls or are just quite ignorant. I go to this mall about 3-4 times a week for work and it still remains as one of my favorite malls. This mall isn't ghetto, it's DIVERSED with different types of people; proper mannered acting to ignorant and obnoxious acting people. Like seriously, the people who gave this mall a bad review has some serious issues. My car is normally parked at the mall from during the day till about 4 a.m. and I can sure tell you, it has NOT been hi-jacked. Therefore, the person who complained about the high quantity of thefts in this mall is a complete liar. This mall has a wide selection of restaurants, wide selection of stores, and it's a fun place to just hang out with friends. Plus, parking is hardlyyyyy ever an issue unless it's REALLLLL close to a holiday (but come-on! That happens to EVERY mall!) Maybe this mall really isn't 5 stars, but NO mall is 5 stars because NO mall is perfect. So if you're going to read any review about this mall, read this one because the people on this site who gave this mall a bad review are just utterly.....stupid lol. read more
