During the first of these appointments I explained to the doctor that I have needed more numbing than usual in the past. I was ignored, I was able to feel every pain during the procedures performed on me that day. I expressed that I was in pain multiple times and was just told the drugs should kick in soon. The doctor and his assistant were cheerfully talking about a dinner they'd recently had with their respective partners while I, their patient cried in pain for three hours. This happened in 2022 and I did not return for the second visit. I have not been notified of any cavities needing fillings after visiting many other dentist, but I am still overcome with anxiety when I am at a dental office.

In a Dental office, that is hard to achieve, but at SCD, it is the norm. Kindness, support, courtesy, professional work, and being treated with respect is lacking in most corners of our culture. I have never been in a more painful dental chair in my life - and that includes the emergency room at Parkland hospital. I have not had any issue or problem with the chair at ANY other dentist. As soon as the hygienist finished the x-rays and reclined the chair I was in serious pain,both back and neck. I just have an average, 52 year old bad back, too - no serious spinal condition or neck injury. I can't imagine what being in those chairs for more than a minute or two would feel like for someonewho does. I was told that all the chairs there are the same. The hygienist was nice, friendly, and the desk was as well. I never met the dentist during my new patient visit, although I was told several times she was "on her way back to meet me". Even after I explained to the hygienist what the issue with the chair was, and was told there is no solution, she then told the dentist, and the dentist never made it back to my exam room. Again, a complete waste of time, and a huge, frustrating disappointment. Especially for a first visit to a new practice I was really excited about. The irony here is that I found this practice for my wife and I, and after some research, I booked both our appointments. This was MY idea. Hers was before mine, and she couldn't stop RAVING about how great the dentist is, his care and concern, his chair-side manner was awesome, how wonderful and helpful his assistant was,how great this office is, and we were both excited about my visit the following week. I was scheduled with the other dentist, and had the opposite experience. I can't help but wish I had been scheduled with my wife's dentist, I might have had a similar experience. Instead, I was treated like an afterthought, and ignored by the dentist who couldn't see her way to come to my exam and meet me, and address my concern with the chair. So now, my wife and I, who would have been regular patients at this practice (with a lot of work to be done), are going to find another practice. Because I was scheduled with the other dentist, not the one she had. We left our previous dentist for similar experiences; feeling ignored, like out concerns weren't being heard or addressed. What a disappointment.

Just had my new patient exam and cleaning today. Absolutely amazing experience! Everyone was nice -- but more importantly -- highly competent. I have thousands of dollars worth of dental work in my mouth and it's critical to protect my investment with great dental professionals. Dr. Heft clearly knows her stuff. Her assistant, Jessica, is excellent. Kerry, the hygienist, did a thorough and careful cleaning. I can't speak for the other dentists, but it's a beautiful facility with modern technology. I would think you'd be in good hands with any of them. But I'll be sticking with Dr. Heft.

There were two instances with a short flash of sensitivity. I noted it and she immediately applied something that instantly calmed the sensitivity. On my way to the appointment there was a car accident that blocked my path. I called them to let them know I could be a little late. They were very understanding. I am a "Better Living Through Chemistry Kind of Guy." I would rather have the pain controlled rather than the Grin and Bear it type. Dr Mai was great. The staff is amazing from the desk staff to the hygienist and her root canal assistant. If you need a new dentist, look no farther. I have had sleep apnea for many years. I am looking forward to seeing what she recommends. I will enter another review after that process.

I have had an issue with an assistant previously, but the staff have been gracious enough to make the change when requested..so minute in concern to me. Dr. Stephens & Dr. Pagano are night and day with mannerisms and approach (those are the only two dentists I've had the pleasure of being seen by, so I can't comment on the others), yet both are very understanding of traumatic experiences and have been very receptive to my anxiety and stress levels. I have a vast appreciation for Dr. Stephen's brash approach coming from a military background like himself and Dr. Pagano is just as down-to-earth as they come. Both are great, easy to communicate with, and will walk you through what they're doing every step of the way. Seeing as though I avoid the dentist at all cost, this has allowed me to feel at ease enough to keep up with my maintenance and continue coming here. I've not had any residual issue from any work I've had done (filling replacements, periodontal cleaning) and have more that needs to be completed (crown, root canal, some alignments), yet have not been uncomfortable at all with the visits or work performed. My preferred dental hygienist is a gem and makes you feel so comfortable - a very important factor in how I respond to the visit. My husband is seen here as well & has also had some pretty extensive work done (root canal, extraction, and crown work), and has not complained regarding his experience - except for once, blaming it on the method in which they obtained his BP and thus received a pretty high reading - rendering him unable to complete a part of his treatment that visit. It did get sorted out and he was later able to finish... more of an inconvenience than I complaint I think... Billing has never really been an issue, except for when they say they send bills and we've not received them - but are eager to address - and we've been approached with balances well after the last visit. To their credit - when it happened to us, Harvey also happened and could have attributed to the lack of follow up and notifications. Overall, I am quite happy here! I will continue to trust the dentists and staff for as long as they continue to provide the stellar care they've given to my family.... Hopefully you will too!
