I recently brought my Marantz 2230 to Chuck for evaluation. I bought it on Craigslist and wanted to make sure everything was working properly and see what work had been done previously. It sounded ok. It turned out the receiver was 100% stock, no prior repairs. Rather than recommending unnecessary replacements and charging a fortune, Chuck made a few adjustments, cleaned some knobs, and performed a thorough test of the system. Chuck is extremely honest, knowledgeable, and has a great setup for vintage electronics. I was expecting a large bill for a 50+ year-old unit, but he only charged $65. Chuck was so great. My old record player died and he advised me which high quality player to look for and purchase. After I found one. he then restored it to it's original condition. He was very kind and patient with me. I highly recommend him and his work is impeccable. There just isn't anyone out there anymore that can repair and restore record players and stereos. We have a TV that's display went out, so I contacted Williams Electronics to see if they took in broken TV's (which they don't and totally understandable because we aren't trying to get it repaired). What I was not expecting was to have them text back and give me a tip on how to set-up our new TV to prolong its life. After 8 years of unparalleled service, my Yamaha AV Receiver HTR-4055 simply stopped coming on. I tried everything to get it to turn on. I called Chuck Williams and he asked me to bring the unit to his place (within a day!). He asked for a $65 fee to look at it and said that if he found the problem and told me how much it would cost, if I didn't want to do it, he would give me back $30. Turns out, he could not find anything wrong with it! It came right on when he turned the switch. He then did other tests and stated that the Yamaha receiver was working fine. (I have no idea why my experience happened.). I came back to get it and he show me how it came on and gave men my receiver back. He also gave me back $30. He could have deceived me and made something up to get me to pay more, but he did not do that. I REALLY appreciate his honesty and forthrightness. Thank you Chuck! read more

I found this "business" on Yelp and decided to try them when the small 17" LCD TV in our kitchen stopped working. I called and got an answering machine/vmail and left a message, so decided to drive there to get an estimate. I recognized the address on Yelp as being in a residential neighborhood across from Dolores Park, and when I arrived, the address was indeed a residence. I rang the buzzer for "Williams" and someone buzzed me in to the lobby. When a guy came down the stairs and asked what I wanted, I said I had a TV for repair. He asked me if I had made an appointment. I said no, that I decided to come by, after calling and getting voicemail. He dismissively told me this was his home address. I asked if I could drop off the TV there, but he didn't respond, except to say that he required a $60 cash deposit for repairs. I was irritated that he didn't seem to be interested in my business or bother to refer me to a "business" address, or to explain how to access their services. I was growing angry by this point, so I blurted, "I left a message, so call me..." and left feeling frustrated and irritatated. Maybe Williams Electronics needs to review/remove their Yelp listing street address and give some info on how to reach them for services. It is easy to set up an informational website online in this day and age... I mistakenly assumed they would operate in a typical business-like manner after finding them with all 5-star reviews (8 reviews). NOPE! read more

Sony 52" XBR after 6 years developed 'THE THIN RED LINE" along the left side of the picture.... Over the phone, Williams Electronics said it would be a costly electronic item within the tuner to fix... looking at 2000.00 on a TV that originally retailed for over $5000.00 back in 2006. Even though I purchased the extended 4 year warranty, it had expired. For $2000.00, I'll live with the thin red line until newer technologies are introduced. Thank you for your Honesty. Looking forward to purchase the newer Three D Technology when it comes without the need for glasses in 2015. As for Best Buy.... they sent out a Geek Squad guy to originally fix it. for $99.00 all he could say was.. you got a problem and is out of warrantee... can't do anything. So their Third Party Service had said that the Geek Squad has their own tools and the 99.00 would be applied to the the repair which this Geek Squad Guy did not do because it was beyond his training. All he did was wall mounts and that was the extent of it. Well, he was nice enough to note our concerns and at this writing, Best Buy reversed the charge. Thank you Williams. read more

My five year old, 42" , flat screen, Samsung TV was taking up to ten (10) minutes to turn on, with rainbow color lines going up and down the front screen when first turning on. Chuck unscrewed the back, pulled out a wrectangular rack, and removed three (3) bulging, obviously "burnt out," filter capacitors, soldered in three new, higher voltage or higher watt capacitiors, and voila! This was the first time I used Chuck and was a little apprehensive but my 52" Samsung would not turn on it would just cycle on and off. From what I read the capacitors Samsung uses are of low quality and go out and that the charge would be around 500 dollars. I talked to Chuck about the problem and set up a time for him to come out. He arrived on time with parts in hand and in less than an hour my television was back up and turning on with no problem. The price was 120 dollars. I was more than happy with his work and honesty. I was given a Mitsubishi flat screen with a screen that was flashing. I researched it online and came to believe it was probably the power board. I Chuck and he came out and looked at it. I have a very cool '70s Zenith stereo console TV that was in need of repair. As you can imagine, it was hard to find someone to even look at it. Chuck William's must be from another planet. He is just one very special human being. He and I conversed via 6 emails today in great detail regarding the demise of my aged Sony Bravia TV. He could have said "I'm on my way to fix it" and could have made a bundle on a chancy fix. Instead, he gave me choices. He gave me the "what could happen scenarios of replacing broken parts with used parts. He asked me for details that gave him what he needed to best inform me. He then gave me his best advice. No charge for any of it. No curt or frustrated responses after he knew I chose replacement over repair. I suspect this gentleman is an expert in his field. He certainly knows how to treat potential customers. I suspect he is a very good person. Run, don't walk and take your broken TV to Chuck! My sound on my Vizio LCD television stopped working. I contacted Chuck Williams at Williams Electronics to get a second opinion after another local TV repair company charged me $25 to come to my house, inspect my TV, and tell me that it needed a new power board (a $300 repair). I left a voicemail for Chuck. He promptly returned my call and instructed me to unplug the television for a couple of minutes. Much to my surprise, that worked and the sound was restored! It is refreshing to know that there are still companies like Williams Electronics out there who don't charge you for things that you don't need and who value reputation over making a quick buck. Chuck Williams is amazing--such a find for SF. He came to my apartment the same day I called about my TV problem and returned two times more for the recurring problem. The power would not work for me, but when Chuck pushed the power button, it worked immediately for him. Today when he came, the power would not turn on--problem was a defective capacitor.
