Having visited IKEA locations in Ireland and Sweden, I've seen how they take the concept so…read moreseriously over there--it's an entire cultural experience. Here, we tend to treat it more like a giant showroom with free babysitting and a cafeteria, but the value is still hard to beat. I had a great run during my most recent trip. The deals were everywhere! I picked up a summer-weight duvet along with a new cover and shams to refresh the bedroom. I also found a stunning set of gold-toned serving flatware -- they have that sleek, high-end look without the boutique price tag. A few highlights and "hiccups" from this visit: The Food & Drink:I tried the fish balls with mashed potatoes for lunch, and they were actually pretty tasty. I also noticed an older gentleman sitting completely alone, casually drinking glasses of what appeared to be wine. Many IKEA locations with a restaurant license do serve beer and wine, and honestly, he had the right idea. Of course, I couldn't leave without hitting the food market for those specific cookies and foreign candies you just can't find anywhere else. The Atmosphere: At one point, navigating the floor felt a bit like an escape room. While the staff seems nice enough, they aren't exactly eager to help--you really have to run them down to get an answer. The Warehouse:I'm honestly not a fan of the self-service furniture selection policy. The whole warehouse environment is pretty intimidating when you're trying to track down boxes. The Strategy:Since I'm lucky enough to live only 25 minutes away I've realized I need to stop coming here like it's a once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage. If I visited more often, I probably wouldn't feel the need to drop $200 every time! Overall, it's a solid four-star experience for the unique finds and the reliable "Swedish-lite" atmosphere, even if you have to do some of the heavy lifting yourself.

I was really the next in line for a long time and it took forever and then I couldn't even return the item as they change their policy with out my notice on plants. Also for checking out after purchasing stuff the line was so long and it was very confusing. They didn't have any of the self checkouts open. I finally got to the front of the line and the cashier went away on a break so I had to wait longer. I felt like there's a lot of workers but they were just not on the cashier so it was just a slow process.

They have a wide variety of items for your home office, etc. The value that you pay appear is very affordable for the average consumer. They have plenty of staff that are working while I was there. I saw someone putting together a piece. Another person was doing cleaning and it appeared three people who work there were having a meeting Despite their being enough staff no one greeted me or asked what I needed so I decided to leave and order the items online. The store is not as big as the IKEA near the university, but it has a pretty good selection. I hope that they can improve their customer service.

Unlike the full IKEA in Charlotte's University neighborhood, this is a much smaller footprint in the Promenade on Providence shopping center. Some similarities exist. The display area upstairs at the other IKEA locations has been shrunk down and this store has several setups of their furniture that you can walk through and get a proper feel for how it might fit in your home. Kitchens, bedrooms, closets, living room areas all set up with shelving, accessories and other accoutrements. A few other display areas with beds and furniture are set up with chairs and tables so that you can test and try out various IKEA pieces. You'll find some smaller accent items - clocks, picture frames, lamps, bedding, etc. Pricing on all is clearly marked. A handful of associates are here, ready and willing to help you with working out the various designs and customizing them for your order. There is no food to be purchased here, sadly. No meatballs or salmon or other great Swedish treats from coolers or from a cafeteria. This is a nice browse but it's not a destination shopping experience. For that, you'll need to drive up to the other store. [Review 73 of 2025 - 4048 in North Carolina - 23641 overall]
