I had been going to Dr. Tedford for many years and was very happy with his services. I finally left to find a new dentist after two bad experiences. First: I arrived for an appointment that had been scheduled six months earlier only to be informed that he would not be in and another dentist would see me. Why wasn't I called beforehand to be offered to reschedule? As it turned out, I was not happy with the substitute dentist, nor the way this was handled by the staff. Second occasion: I arranged to take off work and rented a car to go to my appointment (again scheduled 6 months earlier), only to be told by the receptionist at the new location that the office was closed and no staff were there. She promised to let Tedford's staff know I showed up for my appointment, but I never heard anything from anyone. A week later,I contacted his staff to ask that my files be transferred to my new dentist. After 25 years of loyalty to Dr. Tedford, neither he nor his staff ever asked why I left. I really liked Dr. Tedford, but his staff really let him down. Incredible. read more

Disappointed with Dr. Tedford and his office. I've been a patient for 6 years but when they moved locations I noticed that what I owed after insurance had increased. I found out after calling the office that when they moved locations they no longer accept Delta Dental PPOs. No one from the office ever informed me. If someone had called and had been honest and upfront with me about no longer accepting my insurance and how much more it would be versus before when they accepted PPOs I would have considered staying. When I called about it the manager was fairly rude and just kept saying it "was an oversight on their part." I don't believe that one bit. I feel they purposely did that in order to trick patients into staying. I did like Dr Tedford and staff but I feel that withholding information about changing insurance is shady and honestly there are other dentists all over Chicago. So after 6 years I am moving on. read more

reviewing a dentist? BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING but they are great, really my number one complaint about the dentist, other than the fact that they are pseduo-qualified charlatans out for a quick buck (JUST KIDDING!!!) is their depressing, disgusting, sad-carpeted, linoleum-lit offices. I couldn't help but be curious as Dr. Tedford's office was constructed, erected and eventually opened on the stretch of Damen leading from the brown line train to my apartment. For what did I see? Impeccable tile? Hardwood floors? FLOOR LAMPS?? (I may be making this up, but they do have nice tile). It looked like a spa -- and I had to have it. I hadn't been to the dentist in years -- YEARS! -- but I swung by, "dropped in", if you would, as if everyone has all the time in the world, they got me in, did my xrays, cleaned my teeth, looked at my teeth, charged me $300 and sent me on my way. No, my friends, I do not have "dental insurance" (biggest scam of all time) and I never looked back. Then they even sent me a hand-written note thanking me for my visit! and a couple hand-written notes after that. what a bunch hand-written note writing weirdos!!!!! Actually I loved it. My boyfriend and I discussed the possibility of including coupons with the hand-written notes but concluded it wouldn't work -- what would they possibly offer? Free Look-at-your-teeth? Free cleaning? But that's how they make their money! they can't just give it away! one minor issue: no weekend hours-- but I don't know how dentists work for that kind of thing? I think it would make sense to at least be open for a few hours on one weekend, but maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. So anyway, it's a great space, Dr. Tedford, big man on campus, cleaned my teeth himself, which startled me. He is pleasant, calm, professional and absorbed all of my teeth confessions without blinking. He diagnosed my "jaw clenching" -- an entirely different affliction than teeth grinding, and outlined my unfortunate options for rectification, which involved seeing a specialist who would operate on my mouth and/or wearing gear every night, which I said I would never do. read more

Dr Tedford is without question The Best dentist in Chicago-land. He is excellent technically and is empathetic and kind.

WOW! I hate going to the dentist, but this office makes me feel comfortable and I enjoy going. Caitlin is a very knowledgeable hygienist and gave me a thorough cleaning. I can't wait to go back in 6 months read more

I'm a new patient, so all I can say is.. so far so good. Good dentist, great hygienists. Super patient with people who have fear of pain and needles. I would have given a 4 if it weren't for a billing issue I just had. I paid on estimate and apparently my insurance finalized the claim with them 2 months ago. While reconciling my HSA payments against my medical claims, I noticed that what they charged me was 200% MORE than what my insurance said I owed - and they never reached out to let me know or reimburse me. So I called today and they said "Oh, we were saving it for future services." Um, no. I do not run a credit at my dentist and you shouldn't assume patients would prefer to do that - and you can't tell me you were keeping a credit for me when you never even notified me that I had a $300 "credit" with you. To their credit, they did immediately jump on determining how much I was owed and are issuing a check on Monday, so kudos for resolving it quickly I'm going to stick with them because I like the dentist and the hygienists - but keep an eye out for billing problems. read more

I can't say enough about how wonderful Dr. Tedford and his entire practice is. Nyhurka at the front desk is professional, courteous and funny, both Marta and the hygienist who did my cleaning were excellent, and Dr. Tedford, amazing. I had to have a lot of work done, and I have severe dental anxiety, and I am telling you that he was the most understanding and accommodating dentist I have ever been too. But that alone is not enough, he is also knowledgable and technically excellent, everything is now fixed and I am problem free. I will never put off dental visits or treatment again, now that I have found Dr. Tedford and his excellent staff. read more

I just wrote my first review for my new dentist, the experience was so wonderful that it made me sign up and actually want to write a review... sadly it reminded me of this place. This is something I said about my new dentist.... and it says a lot about how I feel. I had to write about my not so great experience with Dr. Tedford. "Firstly, I want to say that I am pretty upset after coming here. YES PRETTY UPSET. Not because of the practice here, but because a year ago I went to a dentist not far from this location on Damen and Lawrence. I felt rushed there and it was not nearly as thorough as The Family Dental of Lincoln. I told the old dentist that I hadn't been to the dentist in years. Yet they didn't to take the time to go over my current state. That dentist didn't even want to do my cleaning that day saying that the hygienist was too busy and we didn't set aside time for it, but didn't I schedule a new client appt???? I just felt he was not accommodating and I was being reasonable not demanding at all. I really felt as though they didn't care.. I only bring up the previous visit because it set a precedent of my expectation going forward. Which have since changed completely after visit my new dentist here." To my surprise my new dentist, Dr. Obeid did the cleaning himself!!! The last time I was in to see Dr. Tedford, he didn't even want their hygienist who offered to squeeze me in before lunch to do the cleaning... shows how much that guy cared, just wanted me to get billed didn't care about my benefits being lost for the rest of the year since they had no appointments left for me to come back in for the cleaning. I had just gotten the benefits from my job during the middle of the year back then... and I work in a field related to medical billing, thought it was funny that they sure did the bigger ticketed line items like rads (xrays) but not the cleaning which was the whole reason why I had come in the first place. My new dentist has digital rads. They pop up on the computer monitor right next to your chair and Dr. Obeid goes over them with you, and shows you what he is looking at before moving forward. This place with Tedford, not so much a single detail about them, but the tech was friendly. After seeing the dentist, who wasn't as thorough as I would have liked (I even tried to rephrase my concerns to see if he would go into depth with my questions). That didn't work he just moved on. I was referred to an oral surgeon for my non impacted wisdom teeth (only found that out when the oral surgeon I went to explained the difference). I could not bring myself to trust who they referred me to. When they called me for my 6 month visit I asked if the hygienist was in this time. They said that she had recently departed from their practice. I kindly passed up on my appointment as she was the only delightful part of the experience behind the lobby door. I say that because the front desk was absolutely friendly, hence me adding the 2nd star, but the 1st star does go to the floors. They were nice, but that won't do anything for my teeth. I had my first appointment here last week and I couldn't be happier with the service. I was nervous about finding a new dentist since I'd been with my old one for thirty years. Everyone was really friendly. Neither the hygienist nor dentist were rushed. Even though I'm moving further away soon I'll likely continue coming here. read more

My whole family loves our dentist! So polite thoughtful, clean and easy to chat and ask any weird questions. Love how they care about our whole family. My youngest daughter wants to be a dentist too. Dr Tedford, without even asking, suggested my daughter shadows them to see if she really likes the field. In fact, her experience with this dentist, has helped my daughter make up about what she wants to do with her life. She hasn't even finished HS yet. I am happy to have my daughters around great people and role models like our dentists office. read more
