Went to another dentist for care, ended up with a poorly done filling + bonding work. Immediately called Ora and was able to get in the next day; Dr. Bader was a great listener, personable, quick, and fixed my poorly done work and was immediately able to fix a chipped tooth in the same appointment. Donny, Barb, and the receptionist that walked me through billing were also all wonderful! So happy to have found Ora!!! read more

If you're looking for ease in scheduling appts, look elsewhere. The dentists are personable, but that's about it. They have so much turnover with hygienists that your appts get changed and cancelled multiple times. Last year in June they cancelled my appt 2 days before and rescheduled me for January 2025. When I went to the January appt, they said "oh sorry, all we had was an early AM appt and the dentist isn't in yet so this is just a hygienist appt." Was never told that prior. Had I known, I wouldn't have gone because I needed to see the dentist. In January 2025 I tried to schedule my next appt in 6 months and they said "all we have available is in December." Fine. Scheduled that for today. 1 hour prior to my appointment, Valerie, calls me from the front desk asking for my insurance information (it has been the same since July 2024). She says she can't find anything. I said well then I will have to look and will bring with the information to my appointment. She cuts me off, says "well there's an insurance fee so we have to know now." I said, "like I said, my insurance has been the same Delta Dental since 2024. If you're telling me it's wrong then I need to look into it and will get back to you." I proceed to spend 30 min on the phone with Delta Dental for them to assure me that my insurance is indeed the same it has been since 2024. At this point, I will no longer make my scheduled appt on time so I cancel the appt and will happily find a new dentist. Edit: After calling to cancel my appointment, I told them not to worry about rescheduling as this office was no longer working with me. Valerie proceeded to follow-up via email despite me cutting ties with the office. To whomever is in charge of this office-- please offer professionalism training to your front desk staff (especially Valerie). read more

There is one reason I will never return to Ora Dental. Valerie. The office manager Valerie is the rudest person I've met in ages. She is condescending and mean. She let me know she doesn't care if I ever return. She even put down Dr. Thurston when speaking to me. It is interesting that this office does not want to cultivate long relationships with clients. Additionally, watch your bill with her. She overcharges and takes no responsibility for her mistakes. There are many other great dental offices in the area that will treat you nicely. read more

INCOMPETENT AND DISHONEST!!!!!! THE WORST DENTIST I HAVE EVER BEEN TO! On November 1, 2026, I broke off a porcelain crown on a front tooth. I went Ora Dental a few hours later, with the broken crown, to have them cement it back into place. I brought with me the cement impression of my upper teeth with my multiple crowns and veneers mounted on it in wax, from the extensive work done by a dentist in Los Angeles. I brought this with me so the Ora dentist would be able to use it to make a replica of my tooth if necessary. After an hour in their chair, with them unsuccessfully attempting to fit the crown back into place, they told me they couldn't repair my tooth. Then they said they could make an Invisalign upper to hold my broken tooth which would fill in the empty space. They then not only made an Invisalign that didn't fit at all (It fell out of my mouth), they ruined my impression by melting the wax. They apologized and told me they would not charge me anything. The next day I went to Always There Dental Care, where Dr. Jeffry Wojno expertly cemented my broken crown in place in less time than I had spent at Ora Dental. I then called Ora Dental and told them that another dentist had fixed my tooth and to remind them that they had told me they would not charge me anything and to make sure they would not bill my insurance as my yearly limit was very low and I would need it to get reimbursed for the fee I had to pay to Always There. I remined them that they had ruined my mold. Today I discovered that not only did they bill my insurance and collect $239 from them, they sent me a bill for $94. This is outrageous!!!! They are incompetent and unethical........... Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!! SHAME ON THEM!!!! read more

After a not so great experience with the first dentist I found in Chicago, I came to Ora for a second opinion and have been happy and felt well taken care of since. They are upfront about pricing, insurance and the staff are very friendly. I find them much more trustworthy than the other dental practice I visited in the city and will continue to return here for my dental care. read more

I've been coming here since 2017 and I don't ever want to see another dentist. This dental office is really out of the way for me as it takes me 45 min to an hour to get here, but it's worth it. I've had some periodontal work done in 2017, I come here for all my cleanings, and started my Invisalign journey in 2020. The front office is always so welcoming and I appreciate how they always send text and email reminders for all my upcoming appointments. They are always on top of it, so you should not forget about your appointments!Michelle, you are amazing! Thank you so much for always contacting me in advance when it comes to any new charges to my insurance or if I have to pay out of pocket. I really miss my first dental hygienist, Gloria! (I miss you and I hope you're doing well!) Even though she left, I still see two other hygienists and they're amazing! They always do an amazing job cleaning my teeth. My mouth gets a spa treatment every time I'm here! With all my scheduled appointments, I've always saw Dr. Thurston and my visits are always great! He's very thorough and takes the time to explain everything to me. He's been very patience with my dental journey and he's the reason why I have a beautiful smile today! If you are looking for a new dental office, THIS IS THE PLACE! You will not be disappointed as I've been a loyal patient for 6 years. A tip I would like to suggest is that you should get familiar with your insurance plan so you won't be surprised with any unexpected charges! I've never had any billing issues here because I'm familiar with my dental insurance coverage and Ora does a great job explaining all the charges. read more

I wanted to apologize to Ora for not giving them a chance and being misleading because we paid the oral surgeon for service. I have been in contact and getting everything fixed because I was quick to jump the gun and I wanted to share to anyone that read the review that Christine the office manager and I are in contact and I'm impressed that she quickly helped me out. I'm not sure what it would take for me to give 5 stars to a Dentist Office, but these guys come pretty close. The staff is very friendly, they have snacks for while you are waiting, lots of magazines, flat screen large TVs in the individual cubes so you can watch whatever you want while your teeth get scrubbed, pulled or capped. The facility is brand new and has lots of natural light unlike most dentist offices I have been to where here aren't any windows. I do always think that when the facilities are too nice, then they must have to charge a lot or create extra services to justify the build out, but I'm pretty happy so far. Yes, they did tell me my gums were in bad shape on my first appointment, but truthfully I had gotten out of the habit of flossing and my gums were bleeding pretty badly every time I did. So i think they were right. My wife is going as well and she is pretty happy too. I'm a happy customer. read more

Very friendly and helpful. Got my man in for a last minute wisdom tooth extraction and it went smoothly.

After years of being here and having a different dentist every time, I've changed my mind. I've never had dr thurston and literally a new dentist every time. Each dentist has a different referral for me every time I go - seems like a scam. Last straw was they canceled my appointment literally minutes before your appt. Front office staff is not kind. read more

Short version: They are all about selling you on dental work. They attempted to arrange a procedure I didn't need. Long version: I never write a review; however, for my experience at Ora Wicker Park I'll make an exception. I'm someone who has had extensive dental work for 10 years, I'm not looking to get anything else performed. Ora's first question to me was what I wished I wanted to change about my smile. I answered by telling them I only wanted the cleaning I scheduled and I have paid my dues with dental work. They took over an hour to look at my teeth. Their gum test recommended that my back gums needed numbing in order to be cleaned, which meant scheduling another appointment. Before this appointment, in 2023, I saw two separate dentist that cleaned my mouth and neither informed me of any problems, so I was confused when Ora started to create an expensive treatment plan. Like I said above, I've had extensive dental work, so I know when I'm being sold something I don't need. I scheduled another appointment, but this time with another recommended dentist. Turns out my gums are extremely healthy and they were able to clean my teeth and get me out within the hour. It is very upsetting that this office thinks it is ethical to sell patients unnecessary procedures. Save your time and find somewhere else to go. read more

I've had invisalign treatment here for myself and my husband and the experience with dealing with billing has been appalling. They have not billed my insurance for over $2000 and charged me incorrectly for the services. They owe me reimbursement which I haven't received. A call to the front desk has the snotty staff say the system is not working, the printer is malfunctioning, and other crappy excuses for months now. My insurance is trying to deal with them but the incompetence is appalling. Dr Thurston is good but he really needs to look into billing and snotty uppity holier than thou staff attitude. Once I get my money back I'm never going back. read more

I love Dr, Thurston. I'm a big baby, scared and sensitive. He is so nice and explains everything. I have been going to him for over five years and have had to have many procedures. I'm thankful for his great service . I wouldn't go anywhere else. I also really like the team he has assembled. Very courteous and lovely. * This office is very conscious of Covid and takes all of the necessary precautions. I feel very safe going here. They safe-distance in the waiting room, wear masks and have all patients wear them, take your temperature, and have lots of hand sanitizer at every turn. read more

I see this business has prior comments about their RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL desk workers and I just experienced the same exact thing when trying to reschedule a procedure at this office. I missed 2 previous appointments and those appointments were cancelled with much needed notice and now that I'm calling to reschedule I'm given an ultimatum about the appointment because I wasn't able to make the last one. The desk worker tone was so aggressive snarky that I would never want to give a place like this my beard earned money. I told the worker that I would find another dentist office and I feel sorry for their current patients that have to endure such uncouth behavior from a front desk lady that probably makes minimum wage and lives with roommates. read more

Very good experience with the dental staff, BUT one of the desk workers has been one of the most UNPROFESSIONAL employees I've dealt with in quite some time and is really making me consider going to another dentist just not to deal with her. It's embarrassing talking to this woman and don't know how they feel comfortable putting her at their front desk! read more

Frustrating appointment system: the front desk gives you dates 3 months out, the online system gives you anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months, none of which are apparently actually available anyway. Great way to waste my time, thanks Ora. read more

Best dentist ever. Glad I found them. I've had so many bad dentists and they were what I've been looking for.

Ora is the best dentist I have ever gone to in my 40 years of life. I've never waited more than 5 minutes for my appointment. And there are never any surprise charges or non-covered benefits on the claim. Not to mention the TVs in the exam rooms...its a nice added bonus! read more

This place is just awful. The receptionists are consistently snotty and rude, both over the phone and in person. I had a very small filling done, and just had to go back for a third time because the doctor has been unable to properly fix it and it's still causing me pain. I've found a new dentist with staff that seems to actually care about their patients, and can't wait to be done with this place. The only reason for me awarding two stars is because the office is clean and updated. Update: I found a new dentist after my awful experience at Ora with Dr. Thurston at the Wicker Park location. After returning THREE times for Dr. Thurston to fix the small filling he did (he eventually had to completely re-do this), my new dentist just had to do the same filling again. He noted that there was decay under the filling previously done at Ora, which means after three tries it was still done improperly. I was in tears during the filling at Ora because it was so painful, but I felt absolutely nothing at my new dentist. I'm livid that I had to go through that awful process three times at Ora, only to have to pay someone else to fix Dr. Thurston's botched job. PLEASE do not waste your time or money at Ora in Wicker Park!! read more

Got my top two wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Courtney last Thursday. Only used local anesthesia, took about 45 minutes total, and went home with a prescription of ibuprofen that I basically didn't even need. I never felt any pain during the extraction or recovery process. If it weren't for the slight taste of blood in my mouth for a couple of days, I easily would have forgotten that I even had the teeth removed. I was even able to play in a hockey game Monday (four days after the "surgery"). Obviously my teeth weren't impacted, they were the top ones (which are supposed to be easier to remove), and nothing went wrong, so it was a more routine extraction. But still. You hear so many horror stories about wisdom teeth and this couldn't have gone any smoother. The rest of the staff was friendly and helpful, the facility is nice, if Ora is in your dental insurance network, go here! read more

Wanted to share that ORA had the cheapest Invisalign price quote out of the 3 Chicago places I tried while shopping around. Happy with my results even though I had to move out of the state, but got about 90% of where I wanted to be with my teeth. I had a few months of dental coverage left so I decided to go in for a teeth cleaning. That's all I needed - a teeth cleaning. ORA didn't provide that. They had me schedule an "initial patient consultation," which I went to. To their credit, everyone there was super nice, and the hygienist was lovely as she was taking photos of my teeth and poking my gums. She said I didn't have any cavities but needed a "deep cleaning," which involves numbing my mouth, to fix some gum recession. THEN I'd have to come after 3 months, then after 4 months, then eventually once every 6 months, to repeat the procedure. Every other dentist I've seen has said something like "yeah it's a little recessed, just try to be more diligent about flossing." The equally nice dentist then came in and echoed that I needed a deep cleaning. But in the same breath, she said that my case "is not at all severe." I was then handed off to the receptionist, who showed me a rate schedule for the next 2 visits and immediately pushed to schedule the procedures. Look. I understand that ORA is a business, and it's my fault for going to such a big box place and then being surprised when they pushed their products on me. But their entire goal is to get you in the door and coming back for more expensive treatments. If you need serious work or really want an intense oral care regimen, ORA might be a fit. But if you just want to get your teeth cleaned every year or whatever, go somewhere else. read more

I needed a new dentist when moving to Chicago, and felt great about Ora. Beautiful office, massage chairs, super nice hygienists. Also, they offered appointments after work hours which was convenient. I had a tiny cavity that Dr. Thurston suggested I got filled. First, he could not get the numbing shot to work. This baffled me because I always got numb really quickly at my old dentist. He probably gave me 3 or 4 shots in the cheek (waiting 15-20 min in between each shot) just to have me still not be numb, or be numb in the total wrong place in my mouth. We finally got it after about an hour. From the moment I left, that filling did not feel right. Tons of food got stuck between the two teeth (I was flossing 3x a day) and I had soreness. I went back in and the female dentist ensured me it was normal and that sometimes after fillings, there are bigger spaces in between the teeth and I'd just need to floss more. Turns out my gut was right, when the problems continued I went back to Michigan to a dentist I trusted. He let me know the filling was done poorly and was never bonded correctly to the tooth, they used way too much filling material for the size of the tooth, and that there was tons of decay in the gap left between the filling and the tooth. I had to get a crown because there was too much damage and too little tooth left to do another filling. I was livid and in tears. Take my advice and please do not get work done here. read more

This was my first visit to a dental office in years and I'm so glad my insurance lists them as in-network! I made an appointment at 5pm and they took me in 15 minutes early. My dental hygienist Gloria was super nice and professional! She made sure I understood all the procedures and answered all my questions. More importantly, she made me feel very comfortable and not vulnerable with my mouth wide open. Im so glad she was my dental hygienist. #youdabestgirl #dontleaveOraDental Dr. Courtney was pretty much straight to the point and I like that she didn't sugar coat anything. The front desk receptionists were also very welcoming. They went over my estimated costs and I was able to easily make appointments that worked best for me. I liked that I didn't have to wait a whole month to come back for another visit. read more

Be very careful when you go here and dont be fooled by the high-tech cool office ambiance. I went there for the first time as I moved from SF and was looking for a local dentist. I have been going to my dentist in SF regularly for the past 5 years and went for my last visit in Nov 2011. When I went to ORA, since I did not need any cavities, they HIGHLY recommended that I needed gingivitis (gum reconstruction) because I had readings of 3-4-5. I was surprised to hear this as this was never a concern from my past dentist. Luckily, ORA did not have any appointment for another 2 months even for a simple cleaning so I called my dentist in SF and he was surprised at their recommendation as well. I then found another dentist down the street (Modern Dental Chicago), who did all the same readings as ORA, and clearly said I do not need gingivitis as my gums were not that bad and 3-4-5 did not demand gum reconstruction. I also flew to SF for mem day and my dentist there checked me out and confirmed I was good. BE VERY CAREFUL!!!! I WOULD GO TO MODERN DENTAL at Divison&Damen if you need a neighborhood dentist. read more

I used to go here the first couple years I lived in the city because it was near my apartment. The first two times I went, everything was great, I loved it, I recommended it to a couple friends The second two times I went (the last time being spring '15) my experiences were horrible. The last time I went I had a filling, simple right? Me, being a full time college student, on my parents insurance, means that certain medical bills get mailed to them and they handle it for tax purposes and what not because they own the company my insurance is under. The condescending receptionist (the one with tattoos) said some deplorable condescending comment under her breath because my parents were paying for the co-pay. "You don't have your own credit card to cover the payment" with an eye roll and than started typing on her computer... A) I do have my own credit card B) Its none of your damn business why I am not using my credit card C) Learn how to act professional and ask appropriate questions to a client/customer whatever name this company refers to patients. D) I guess that's why you're a secretary, right? The dentists and hygienists were awesome aside from the last time I went, I think, well they did mess my filling up because my tooth was hurting horrible for two weeks after. Come to find out (I went to a different dentist after this) I had to get a new filling on the same one because something wasn't done properly or whatever. I honestly would have came back here but the way I was treated because my parents were paying for the filling was not cool. I don't recommend anyone on their parents insurance to go to this dentist. Too many other dentists nearby that treat college students with respect. read more

Absolutely amazing service. Called to see about getting appointment Nov 22,21. Said couldn't get me in until Feb 28, 2022 (for cleanings). I said no, I mean my crown fell off. They said, oh. How about tomorrow morning at 9:30am. I was like wow! I mentioned I didn't have dental insurance, but that I had regular insurance and I think they would pay for routine dental Xray, but I also needed help to select add a great dental plan for 2022, at work as it was open season. They said ok. I come in to their Swanky sanitized and socially distanced reception area - after not seeing a dentist for two years since covid 19, and the previous other dental place I had gone to I didn't see staff wash hands in front of me, change gloves and then stuck their hands in my mouth. This was when people were dying daily and reports were all over the news every morning. Death, death and more death. Anyway, they took care of me right away, for nothing $0.00. I was looking for an assessment and treatment plan for 2022, since I needed a crown replacement due to tooth decay. They really helped me with every single question I had. I had come armed with three dental plans I was interested in that would have reasonable premiums, would be considered in network and would not give them any hassle or me in submitting claims or denying claims. They rolled their eyes on one, and was straight up. That one always gives push back. These other two have no issues. They also informed me about care credit 0% apr credit card online for dental costs I would need to pay. They let me know they accept that card. The information they provided was crucial. I have now a temporary fix to hold me until my dental plan kicks in, Jan 2022 and made my appointment to start the process for my crown replacement. Dr. Thurston (an in network provider for most PPO dental plans) and Katie the dental hygienist gave me peace of mind and their 5 star reception staff helped me to choose my dental plan and arrange my financing for 2022. This IS the place! They had parking (two spaces, and streamlined reception, quick check in.) thank you. read more

Well, I just had my crown filled at this place. Unless they used pure platinum to fillet, I can't understand why it cost me $295 for a less than 10 minute procedure. The dentist does good work, which is unfortunate, because I will never walk for these doors again. They did not go over a treatment plan with me, but I have had teeth filled before, and wasn't expecting a bill any more than $150 at the most. When I expressed my utter shock at the price, the Office manager, who seems to be trained in this customer service techniques equivalent to AT&T and Comcast, explained with a condescending smile that although the procedure takes much less time and work than a regular filling, the material used for the buildup is more expensive. I don't buy it one bit. Well, technically I guess I did buy it, because I reluctantly paid the price and walked out. This is not the first time I have felt scammed by ORA dental. Do business with this company at your own risk. Do they really think they can get away with this? Yes, apparently they do. read more

After having a good experience getting my wisdom teeth pulled at the South Loop location, I decided to have my regular cleanings done closer to home at the Wicker Park location. My first visit, I waited in the chair for 40 minutes. I was told I had two cavities, and to come back a week later to get them filled. When I returned, the hygienist numbed my mouth, then proceeded to tell me I had FOUR cavities. I told her that was not the case, and then waited for 30 minutes while she tried to figure out where my cavities actually were. I wish I would have left right then, because by the time they were ready to drill, the numbness in my mouth was subsiding. A fact I mentioned to them, but was ignored. I really enjoyed the feeling of that drill. Save your time and money, and go somewhere else. read more

Made an appointment as my insurance just kicked in and I was due for a cleaning. Over the phone they were very friendly, and were happy to schedule me in for a teeth cleaning. Waiting 18 minutes from my appointment but that's fine, nice set up. The room was great, massage chair! TV! Because it was my first time there they needed to get Xrays. They examined me and recommended a deep cleaning. I said "thanks, but I'll just take the peasant cleaning today". The hygienist (who was super nice) went to get the front desk girl, who told me they can't do a regular cleaning, it could cause some sort of inflammation blah blah.. I asked her if she was the dentist, she was not. Finally, Dr. thurston came in, examined me, he was nice and agreed to do my regular cleaning and could have me back in 4 weeks for a deep cleaning. I felt kinda tricked that I wanted my teeth cleaned, and they were gonna have to reschedule me for a "deep cleaning". Ran this by my dental friends and they said that the idea of a deep cleaning (under gumes) is not unreasonable, but not essential. The cleaning itself was good (I've had better). All in all i give this place a reluctant three stars, the hygienist saved the day, it seemed as though she'd been coached about pushing this deep cleaning, I donno, didn't sit right with me. I also asked if my insurance would cover the deep cleaning, and no one would give me a straight answer, it may depend, but I'd rather know before I sign up. read more

"You are the only person I know who gets excited about going to the dentist," a friend of mine says to me as I'm walking through the door of this tranquil, modern dental studio. If his dental office were anything like Ora, he'd get excited too. As I walked through the door to Ora, I was handed an iPad to check in. Although it took a good 10-15 minutes to get completely checked-in, I enjoyed the thought of doing it all paper-less. Plus, it was simply *cool* to check-in on an iPad. Immediately, I noticed the state-of-the-art equiptment being used at Ora. I noticed this studio was not busy, I very well may have been the only customer in the entire place. I later found out this studio has only been open for one month. How did I not know that? The staff was extremely friendly. On their website they claim to have a "team of highly trained professionals who delivers *Five Star* customer service and one-on-one personal attention in a relaxed and aesthetically beautiful atmosphere." They held true to their claim. I am highly turned on by the *green, eco-friendly* practice that Ora is offering. Their concern for the environment, health of their patients, community, and staff are evident through their use of organic, toxic-free, eco-friendly, renewable materials and resources. Ora states on their website: "We did not invent dentistry, but we are redefining the dental experience." ....and that is no lie. Bad news: Two of my wisdom teeth need to be removed :( read more

So, I went to Ora in Wicker Park several years ago, got 7 silver fillings replaced and a new filling put in. The experience was painless and the atmosphere, for a dentist, was 5-star. I moved and tried and dentist closer to my house for a cleaning and the experience was just plain bad, so I decided to go back to Ora for my filling... WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! First of all, the procedure was painless. Secondly, they went through everything very thoroughly. Thirdly, they stand behind their work 100% and if there is a problem with a prior filling they replace it, which is not always the case. Although this may be a little more expensive than the neighborhood dentist, it is well worth it. I can skimp on something else. I will NEVER risk my smile again to another hack! I, like most people, do not enjoy going to the dentist. So I unwillingly dragged myself here one day for a routine cleaning. They have some awesome technology at this office, and I was actually starting to enjoy myself, only to find out I needed a root canal. Eeeek! I got an appointment the next week to come back and get the procedure completed. Now I believe root canals to be the pregnancy/labor and delivery equivalent of dentistry. Everyone has their story to share, and all of them involve excessive amounts of pain. Needless to say, I was very nervous, and I wasn't expecting anything pleasant to come from this experience. I was wrong. Dr. T and his assistants did an amazing job. I felt no pain at all during the entire procedure. They spray a numbing agent in your mouth before the shots so those don't even hurt! I just watched some HGTV and even practically fell asleep at one point. They took such great care of me. I was really impressed. Two days later I am a little sore, but nothing unmanageable. Overall, this office is very professional, eco-friendly, on the cutting edge of dental technology, and best of all, friendly and empathetic. I would highly recommend their practice to anyone looking for a dentist in the area. read more
