Around the lake by the tennis courts there is also a free little library that have good quality books and sometimes I saw a stack of CDs as well. There's a good sized green area as well with a covered bench areas spread throughout. There's also a walking path with a small exercise machine area along the way. Parking is easy with a large lot right next to the lake, opposite of the lake are some hiking trails if you have more time. It's a nice loop going around with some different areas along the way such as a small creek, reeds near the shore, and some water works that looks like they have been turned off or no longer function. Even in Winter there are a lot of different birds around. My kids loved following and chasing the large pelicans in the lake. You can fish here and there are children's fishing competitions. Just keep in mind to have a permit because when we went there was a police officer checking and ticketing people.

There are 400+ steps to climb up and down. The steps are made of timber but could be wet and slippery from early morning dew, so I feel that a late morning trek is better when the stairs are dry. On my second visit, I went around 6 PM. Although the stairs are well lit, I just did not feel safe. I found myself alone at one point and looking behind me, checking if someone is coming out of the dark bushes. Maybe it's just me... But overall, if you would like to hit your 10K steps and/or your target heart rate, this is a fun way to go!

Bathrooms are clean enough and decently well stocked. Parents can grab a seat on one of many benches and there is good visibility as the kids run from area to area. There are baby and regular swings, and one big flat disk that you can lay down on. There are also spider web ropes for climbing. The softball fields are great for running the bases in between games, or flying a kite in the outfield. We tend to come in the evenings when it's cold so we haven't had a chance to use the splash pad but the structures in the area are still available for climbing. The 84-acre park has been serving the community for almost 50 years, providing tennis courts, a skatepark, playgrounds, exercise equipment, public pool, indoor courts, 2 fishing lakes, basketball courts, BBQ/picnic areas & the Cerritos Sports Complex. For my recollection, my first acquaintance with Don Knabe Park came by way of participating in the Annual Youth Fishing Derby. Kids are given the opportunity to compete with other registrants to catch the largest catfish. Bait is provided, and fishing tackle is first come, first served basis. As a teenager, I became more interested in fishing, and tried my hand at largemouth bass fishing w/ lures. On my first outing, a caught a decent-sized bass. I've seen much larger sized bass caught, too. The CA Dept. of Fish & Game stocks the lakes with rainbow trout (colder months) & channel catfish (warmer months). For trout, I've been lucky using small spoons, while catfish is simply bait & wait with smelly bait of choice. For such a large park, the parking is absolutely free! Which, along with proximity, is why I frequent Don Knabe Park over others. One complaint I have, is there can be duck & other waterfowl landmines (aka poop) all over the concrete walkways next to the lakes, if the groundskeepers aren't timely at keeping up with the power washing to clear the walkways out. Cerritos' own Central Park, Don Knabe Community Regional Park is an out of doors haven, for those looking to increase their daily steps, play their sport of choice, or wet a line and see if the fish are biting. It's a great resource which I take full advantage of, and hope to continue visiting for many more years to come. Highly recommend!

We did our Cub Scout bridging here and it worked out perfectly! How have I not given our local park the Yelp treatment yet??!?…read more Lexington was the answer to Oak Knoll being outgrown, we are a city of recreation and competitive sports, and if you build it, we will use it to its fullest potential. Lexington is proof! This park, at its core, is two large sized football/soccer fields that can be divided up for smaller league kid games. One field is natural grass, the other a composite. The entire park is well lit because of the night games that are played there, which makes for an overall inviting and safe experience - and I never see the park empty, it's always in use. Surrounding the fields are a running track that circles the distance of the park, a large playground area, seating for the parents, oh, a large set of bleachers for the FNL and soccer games. A workout area in the back with a circuit style set of arm/leg machines. Pickleball and basketball courts, a general area with covered seating for picnics and gatherings, and a large parking lot area that, although large, can be found filled on busy days. Overall this is a good park and a great addition to our cities lineup. We come here often to do sports or use their other various facilities. :)

My only complaint is the playground is truly geared for older kids 2.5-3years + older. I feel with such a large project, the city of Cypress could have added a few other features to make it friendly for under 3yr olds - it's literally only 1 small slide for the littles - no steering wheel to drive, or any features to fidget with, or twist, turn, pull or other. I guess it was the last thing in their budget. All in all, it is a huge upgrade to the city of Cypress and we love walking here and that they have doggy bags for when our pupp finds a couple potty spots.
