This is hands down my worst review because this is hands down THE WORST PARK in Torrance. I feel…read morelike the city forgets about this park or simply doesn't care. The bathrooms are horrible; only one of the stalls in the women's restroom has a door, no seat covers, no trash cans, no paper towels and usually no toilet paper. When we play softball here we have to bring a "potty bag" with soap, toilet paper, etc. I was told the men's restroom has no doors. The parking is scarce and the train that goes by is terribly loud! They double booked our softball games with a field softball practice - which doesn't surprise me because it seems like nothing at this park is well managed. I only go to this park when I absolutely have to- like for softball games. Let's talk about field conditions; most outfielders know that this is "the best" or rather the worse place for sprained ankles! There are so many mounds and gopher holes in the grass that rolling an ankle or tripping is inevitable. This summer I noticed that there is now a makeshift dirt track for remote control off-road trucks. It's super random but nice if you're into that. Not so nice for the people playing softball because that dirt track is in the perfect place to blow clouds of dirt into our direction so you get a nice mouthful of dirt if you're running to first base! Unfortunately I have no choice to play softball here since I signed up to play before I realized what park it was at. I wish I could say this park "used to be good" but it has honestly been this way for years. Hopefully next year we play somewhere else until then please say a prayer for our ankles.

Such a great park with lots of fun activities for kids! I…read morereally appreciate that it's fully fenced--you can relax knowing your child won't run off. There's also plenty of shade, lots of benches, and spots to sit. The only downside is that the bathrooms are usually closed, and the park itself is sometimes locked without any explanation. We went this Saturday with the kids and found it closed, with no sign saying why or when it would reopen. That was really disappointing.

The good: I love when a park is mostly squishy pad flooring…read moreor cement because tan bark and sand get so messy for my toddler. This park is fenced in and nestled between apartment complexes. It has a little kids playground and a bigger kids area. My toddler loved the metal tube slide. It doesn't create static and it's a really fun and unique way to slide down a hill! It reminds me of a factory conveyor belt. The playground feels modern. They also had bathrooms. They have park-style workout equipment for adults too. There's a splash pad area but I don't know when those operate. The bad: There's no designated parking lot. We parked on the street but it can be difficult to find parking because of all the apartment complex tenants. The interesting; There were garden workers maintaining the park when I came so they were leaf blowing the area and there was dust everywhere.

I spent part of a lazy Saturday here last month, when I was dog-sitting for my sister. No, I didn't…read morebring the dog, because driving in cars terrifies her. Instead, I picked up a delicious sandwich, some deli sides, and drink from nearby Boccato's Groceries ( https://www.yelp.com/biz/boccatos-groceries-hermosa-beach ), lucked out in quickly finding a parking spot, and ate my lunch at a picnic table before reading my book for almost two hours. It was a beautiful day, and many other people were enjoying the near perfect weather and all the space the park has. There were at least three different kids' birthday parties going on, but they didn't interfere with one another, because Valley Park has multiple areas with picnic tables. It has a huge playground, a basketball court, and what seem like acres of grass to play on. There are also lots of trees for shade. As I said, I found parking almost right away, on Morningside Drive, but that meant a long walk for me, as the path from the western side of the park takes a rather circuitous route past the playground and the basketball court to the group of tables I wanted to sit at (the only ones completely unoccupied when I arrived). I could have taken a direct route through the grass, but that would have meant walking through a kids' soccer game and some of groups of kids playing. Most of the parking is along the two streets that form the northern boundary of the park, but I could see the street from where I was sitting, and those spots didn't open up often, and when they did, they were quickly taken. It got a bit windy as the afternoon passed, so I had to go chasing some napkins and the lid of one of my deli delectables at times, but it really is a nice, well maintained park. I didn't use the bathroom, but I did see quite a few moms taking their kids into them, so I'm assuming they couldn't have been that disgusting. Speaking of the bathrooms, it would be great if this Yelp listing could have a different, less puke-inducing cover photo. Please click on some other photos, people!

I remember walking through this dirt field on the way to High School and back my poor white shoes would get so dusty with the dirt on it. Once they built the park it was nice green grass and the dirt trail to walk on around it. Then they added the kids playground. Along the dirt trail there are stops for workouts like doing push ups with the bar installed etc. Overall a nice place for picnics, soccer play for the wide open field and in the back corner a backstop for baseball which they did get rid of a few years ago.

Super cute hidden and SAFE park within a North Torrance neighborhood…read more There is not much to this park. It's pretty much an uneven pie shaped type of track, and a fenced off parking lot. I was romping around Torrance and Gardena one day and decided to stop by at this park. I'm so glad…read moreI did!! I have driven past this park location on several occasions and always wondered about it. I always see local people walking about no matter when I pass by. To my surprise, parking was easy and free. It was also dog friendly which I appreciated. What I had no idea about was how well designed this park was until I stepped foot in it. It has two playground areas, bathrooms, grassy fields for people to play some sports, and a well paved and well marked trail with mile marker to exercise on. It has a moderate up and down hill as well as shaded trees to keep cool and comfortable. WOWza, I thought! And it's so clean inside!! Essentially, you can walk about 2 miles if you do 4 laps. Or a whole mile if you walk 2 laps. I think I can actually do 6 laps only because it was such a nice urban escape and people were polite. The dogs were also having a good time too and at no point I had to worry about some rogue dog owner with their unleashed dogs or something. 10/10 would return again in the future. What a gem of a neighborhood park this was!

If you have a tiny one, I still would be cautious about the play structure in the smaller playground area. I went down the slide with my toddler, and I almost fell mostly because it was so fast. All of the play structures could definitely use some tender love. I love how diverse people who are here and everyone seems pretty friendly.

Very cute park, but it's hard to determine the hours. The signs outside the park state that they…read moreare open until dusk. The Lawndale Parks & Recreation website states that the park is open until 8:00 p.m., or dusk, whichever comes first. Tonight's sunset is 7:15 p.m., so I figured they would close the park around 7:00 p.m. or so. My two year old and I walked about a mile to the park, arrived at 5:15 p.m., and found the park locked on 162nd. We figured it was probably open on the other side, so we walked into Hawthorne and around to 163rd, and found that it was also locked there, too. I called the city to find out what was happening with the hours, and they shared that new hours were being enforced where the park now closes at 5:00 p.m. That's great for nannies, but working parents will only have the option of using this park on the weekends. It's absolutely adorable! Wish we could have gone in!

Review #878 2025-051…read more Our family alternates between Torrance Park & Charles H. Wilson Park (refer to Review #10), favoring the latter because of their weekend activities: farmer's market & steamers train. I drafted a review shortly thereafter but haven't been able to finish with revisions in 2016 & 2021, so almost a decade later... this is it! Torrance Park isn't as active as Wilson Park, but one past summer (2021), Ultra! - Torrance Art Museum & Torrance Park hosted "Even The Trees Will Sing If We Are Quiet Enough" (for more details, refer to website: http://finishing-school-art.net/Even-The-Trees-Will-Sing-If-We-Are-Quiet-Enough). Even The Trees Will Sing If We Are Quiet Enough is a participatory sculpture project situated among various old-growth trees. The artwork can be described as sonified interspecies furniture constructed with recycled wood & electronic components. The aum-like buzzing vibrations transduced through the architectural forms are a livestream of the trees' living electrical signals that visitors can sound-bathe in during daylight hours. Visitors reported that the tree sounds are also reminiscent of cicadas & other insects heard in wooded areas. This interspecies collaboration fosters direct connection & gives voice & focus to these elder residents that commemorate time & existence and bears witness to local histories & provides comfort & wisdom. When my daughter was taking taekwondo, the studio held a summer picnic & awards ceremony at the Outdoor Band Shell. Other than that, we come here when Wilson Park is crowded. Torrance Park has similar amenities: reservable picnic area with decent shade, bouncer accessibility, BBQ, playground, baseball/softball diamond, basketball court & horseshoe courts (though not as many), restrooms (we haven't had to use it so I'm unsure if it's clean &/or stocked), but they don't have an indoor gym/facility. There's a small area that's kinda like a corn field maze, not sure of the plants to create this mini maze, that my kids enjoyed playing tag with each other & friends. There's plenty of parking off Arlington Ave., some street spaces on Santa Fe Ave., not sure if there's a private lot off Cabrillo Ave. on the park's east side near the field. The park isn't as maintained as I would like; my son was riding his bike along the uneven walking paths & flipped over, head first, crashing on the hard asphalt & badly injured his nose with some facial scratches. Luckily, he was wearing his helmet or it could have been worse. He was 3 or 4 YO at the time of the accident, & wasn't biking on 2-wheels really fast. Quite a few playgrounds use the soft rubbery surfacing to cushion falls, here it's still sand unlike the red tractor. It's strange that they would renovate that instead of the playground that likely has more kids running & jumping around with a higher probability of falls. When the kids were older, in elementary & middle school, we're rarely at the playground & use the open grassy area to play catch with either a baseball or football, jump rope. Our daughter is currently in high school, she sometimes practices flag & rifle (color guard) in the shade. In my kids' toddler days (2011 - 2017), there's been more happy (not really) wanderers loitering & sleeping at the park, & hooligans causing chaos & mischief so we limited our time here. It's been better now that they're older, & it feels safer now with more families around. Not our first pick, but it's a decent enough back-up for outdoor play & physical activities. Come out & play... & get some CA sunshine!
