Was in area for NYSMMA at William Floyd High School. Feeling under the weather, I just wanted some chicken soup to take home. Stopped at diner to grab some to go. This tiny container of chicken noodle soup was almost $7! I asked the girl if made a mistake, and said no that's the price. I said that's ridiculously expensive for a small container of chicken noodle. Not the best area, in a strip mall on William Floyd Parkway. You got serious nerve charging that kind of money for chicken soup. I hope it's delicious, but it's still not worth $7. Maybe that's why the place is so empty. I wasn't staying to check over the rest of the menu pricing. Sorry, I won't be back. We just love this little local Diner. I've been coming here for over 20 years. Don't understand at all the other low reviews. I hope this review can do justice to the wonderful Vibes and food this this little Diner serves up. A real flavor of America, with home made country style meals and real folks with real conversation. Come on in and relax with their comfy tables and booths. Pull on up to the counter with the locals. Have a cup of coffee get all the neighborhood's news for the day. Our server Rose was absolutely wonderful. She's always so sweet and friendly whenever we come, she's been here for years. Hungry, our breakfasts came out quickly and cooked perfectly to our order. I love their fat link fresh sausages! They're just bursting with juices and flavors. The deliciously crispy home fries served with the eggs were outstanding. Highlighted by their fresh green pepper and onion accents. Such a multitude of flavors in the breakfast eggs and sausage special. I have to also mention their famous fresh-brewed iced tea. I take it unsweetened with lemon. They're absolutely wonderful, light, crisp, and delicious. So refreshing on a summer's day, especially after the hot baking beach. When I first set foot into this diner I fell in love with the great service they provided. My waitress was Gina. Gina talked and engaged me like a great waitress should. Every time I go in I see if she's there because Gina never gets my order wrong; I can be picky at times, but I know that about me, anyway I'm getting off track. Gina is a great person and that's why I go back. The food is good. They make better then expected diner food, compared to many other diners they are a step above. I eat a lot of food off there menu and I enjoy it. I wouldn't ask them to change a thing. What blew my mind was the recent renovation of the building. It looks great and it seems the food taste better. Maybe it's just my imagination but I feel the look of a place helps sell the food too. But it must have cost a pretty penny to upgrade the place because the price of the food went up. I'm not surprised and it's not a crazy increase but they need to turn a profit like anyone else. Also my last negative, they stopped selling Mountain Dew! I mean what goes better with a burger then a cold Mountain Dew? The lady in charge looks so happy when I told her the place looks great, she was grateful for the compliment. I like how she was humble about it and said thank you like she meant it. Been here twice had breakfast both times. One of the times I had a very crispy home fries which I loved. The chard on the home fries really made my dish special. Price is good Staff are attentive, but could be a bit more welcoming. Food.. Well, the coffee was good, so there's that, lol. My french toast was dry. Same problem I seem to have everywhere, barely dipping the bread into the batter. *sigh* One of my dining companions had chicken, but it was so hard, it had to be like 3 days old. The server removed it in favor of a burger that was reportedly "excellent". After our vacation, on the way home, we had stopped at a pancake house in Montauk, but waiting to come back here would have been better. My recommendation is to give them a shot. Food is pretty good here. Problem is when I order takeout. Both times I ordered takeout here I have gotten overcharged. Last time was 2 sandwiches. Should have been $22.85 (with tax included) but I was charged $28.75. Twice this happened on two different orders (forgot my coleslaw also) so I will not be ordering takeout from there again. Just wanted to write a quick review to say how amazing this diner was tonight for me and my job. I work in a group home that houses 7 medically fragile and elderly adults all with different diets today on a terribly hot day we lost power which meant that we lost our air conditioning we needed to take all 7 of them out to dinner to get in ac and bc we couldn't cook. The 5 staff members and 7 residents were beautifully accommodated tonight when we pulled in all the staff came out and held the doors open for us (we have 5 in wheelchairs) they had a whole section blocked off for us they made exceptions that went with all 7 diets even when one of my residents started screaming they didn't have an issue. Our server was so sweet and helpful they gave us pretty much anything we needed !! Also they all held the doors open so we could get everyone out and back onto our bus. I can't say enough about how much our family loves this place. It's on point, every time. The decor is classic diner, which you wouldn't think based on it's strip mall location. The service is attentive, friendly and professional and the food is delicious. Whether it's a classic omelette breakfast, a juicy cheeseburger and fries or the spinach pie l, you will not be dissatisfied. I will go on record to say that the spinach pie is the best we've ever had. ( Not all pancakes are equal, these are top notch) This is a simple diner in a strip mall, once a pancake cottage. The food is good and reasonably priced. ? I just really like this place! My girl and myself were 2 of maybe 6 people in the whole place when we arrived and placed our order. 10-15 mins later a group of Hispanic people came in, ordered, AND got their food before us! (Which wasn't even until I complained about how long it was taking, maybe 45 mins!!!) We just recently returned here after a long absence. There is a sign at the register saying ALL credit card transactions will have a service fee. No minimum purchase indicated nor what the fee would be. While the food may be good for dinner food, I have a real issue with that. I can understand if someone is charging $5 but, the fee the cc company charges the merchant is usually under a dollar, and that is part of business expenses. What a pleasant surprise. Traveling from a wedding the night before enroute to JFK, we took an exit and googled local restaurants and found the William Floyd Diner. We had a large party of hungry young adults. The hostess was super helpful in assembling tables for our group, our waiter could not have been more accommodating. And the food was wonderful - a wide variety of comfort food. The service was outstanding - refilling coffee and providing extra pickles (which were awesome). We are locals who try to patronage our small business, but will no longer patronage this establishment after being charged a "service fee" for paying our bill with a debit card. There is no signage stating this policy and we only made aware of it when we went to pay the bill. We asked to have it waived and were denied by the Manager. Their customer service non-existent and as they say, a fish smells from the head down, so if the Manager won't offer customer satisfaction, don't expect anything more from the staff they employ. Went there on Friday for lunch before going to Smith Point Beach. This is a great place to stop and grab a bite. My eggplant parmigiana special was delicious. The breading was perfect, though I felt they went a little overboard on the cheese (personal preference) and would have preferred a hero roll versus the bun they used. My wife got the gyro and enjoyed her dish as well. I would of also preferreed a little less cheese. That being said, I took leftovers of both with me. With the lunch special, I got the Soup of the Day a seafood bisque and liked the chunks of crab meat that was in it. What was nice was that the soup wasn't salty. Good diner without the flashy exterior decor. I've dined-in and carried food from here, and everything usually turns out great. I mainly order the sandwiches and burgers: they are excellent. My only gripe is when ordering to pick up. They usually forget to put special requests in. ie. add fresh sliced onions for my burger....result, no onions. Sometimes they forget the russian dressing for a rueben. What's a rueben with without russian dressing......a cornbeef sandwich with kraut and swiss cheese! So when you phone your in for pick up, check that everything is good. So don't let the plain exterior fool you; this is a good diner with a friendly staff. read more
