Nothing like discovering that you have a leak in your roof! Our roof is only about 10 years old and from the outside looks fine. It looked to us like water was coming in at the joints were two sections of roof met. It was leaking when the snow buildup started melting and then freezing again causing an ice layer under the snow which then melted again. Dollar signs were flying around my head! We called Rott for an estimate and received a call back the same day. This is not always the case when trying to get estimates. They were out the next day and arrived on time. After looking at the roof they pretty much said when we thought and also said our entire roof did NOT need to be replaced. Good news. They gave us an estimate which we thought was reasonable and we set up the appointment for the work to be done. Work day arrived and they again arrived on time. It was a 2 man crew and they got right to work. Only complaint was we had to ask them to lay plastic over the garden area in the front of the house to protect my just starting to bloom garden. The work was completed and they cleaned up the whole area, even removing some yard debris that was already there. Obviously we won't really know if the work is ok until next year but at this point we're happy with the service, the look of the finished product, and the price. Based on how this situation has been handled, my experience suggests that when serious installation issues arise, management may rely strictly on contract technicalities rather than taking responsibility for the work. When documented technical findings and heavy mold contamination are presented, a company that stands by its work should address the facts head-on rather than avoiding accountability. Keep in mind that major roofing flaws--like ventilation design failures, severe structural moisture, and heavy mold contamination--often take years to manifest. When that happens, you need a company led by people who take responsibility, not leaders who dismiss documented evidence. The roof was installed before I purchased the home, but its premature failure within just 7 years has caused severe issues: 2026 ice damming, living room leaks, and heavy Cladosporium mold growth--a serious health risk for young children. A properly installed roof is generally expected to last decades, not fail within 7 years. I want to be clear that my concern is with the installation and with how leadership has responded--not with the individual installation crew, who I do not believe are responsible for these decisions. An independent inspection revealed a ventilation design conflict--a ridge vent paired with gable vents and limited intake--creating a "short-circuited" system that trapped attic moisture. This explains the lab-confirmed heavy Cladosporium growth on the sheathing ("Very Heavy" spores, "Many" mycelial estimate), which violates ARMA and TAMKO guidelines. Instead of a brief update regarding their liability insurance review, the general manager submitted a lengthy, multi-page response on the BBB that which they later requested to be removed on 08/07/2026. I have fully screenshotted and backed up all records to preserve an accurate account of the facts, which fellow homeowners can review below. Management even refuse to address the facts head-on, a phone call is just for show--leaving these fundamental questions unanswered: 1. Permit compliance -- Was the work performed under the required municipal permits at the time? 2. Code applicability to older homes --What standard exempts older, existing homes from proper installation practices? 3. Ventilation design -- Given that no intake vent was installed and unsealed gable vents were already present, what was the reasoning for adding a ridge vent, creating an unbalanced system? 4.Flashing and fasteners -- My concern is specifically about exposed, unsealed fastener holes from reused flashing, not whether pan flashing itself should be visible. How does reusing flashing without resealing align with proper water-intrusion prevention? 5. Liability basis -- Separate from contractual technicalities, what is a contractor's responsibility for non-compliant work, especially since liability insurance opened a claim? Liability insurance already opened a claim based on credible evidence--not mere persistence. Leadership should address these technical findings instead of hiding behind contract technicalities. Even if a direct contract existed, they would just claim they followed it. But the truth is, the contract itself was built on a flawed design. A long-standing reputation should be built on accountability, not on contract technicalities. In my view, a truly reputable company is best served by addressing documented facts head-on rather than focusing on the absence of a direct contract. For homeowners considering this or any contractor: request their Certificate of Liability Insurance, and verify licensing and permit history with your local building department. We are in the process of getting estimates for a new roof. We had a company postpone yesterday's estimate due to the weather and agreed to stop by today. That company and Adam from Rott both showed up at the same time. When I answered the door Adam was angry. He asked if I scheduled two appointments at the same time. I told him my husband did the scheduling and I would go get him. He said never mind, have a good day and stormed off. The other roofer told him that he would wait in his truck until we were all done . Adam told him never mind then sped out of our driveway and sped down the street. I did call Rott to let them know how their company was being represented. Such a disappointment. Came to give me an quote/estimate for tear off and replacement of roof on my 1500 sq ft ranch with attached garage. First quoted of $38, 758 for roof only. Then dropped price to $36,000. Would not provide a written estimate. (Every other company quoting has provided a detailed written quote.) When I called the Rott office to ask for something in writing, I was advised it was not their policy to put "anything in writing." Every other quote received from 4 other long established, reputable companies in the area were at least half the cost Rott quoted using the same brand and quality of shingles. Needless to say I have selected another roofing company to replace my roof. Interestingly, the detailed response from Rott & SONS, hastotally ignored any mention of my primary comment about them not providing a detailed, WRITTEN estimate. Also, as to the quality of the materials used..... The Rott estimator left the very same shingle brochure that ALL other companies used, and ALL of them quoted the identical grade of that manufacturer's product when quoting. Not something exclusively available only through Rott. If you are aware that the customer is getting several quotations, providing a detailed explanation of what you will be providing is the best way for the customer be able to compare apples to apples.... read more

I've used William C. Rott & Son after repeatedly hearing their praise on a local radio station for over 15 years even before I was a homeowner. Their company history and promised higher quality standards reassured me that they were not a short-term roofing company. I don't mind paying a little more for this noticeable increase in quality work and materials and the reliability that they will still be there in 10+years. I first used them around 2012 to remove roof box vents, an attic fan, a utility pole that had previously had overhead service wires attached to it, and then add a ridge vent. Work was perfect and quick (less than a day) and they even replaced a few missing lose shingles on the house and my detached garage for free! I used them again May 2019 to remove an old kitchen hood roof vent and and old chimney flue, which has cleaned up the roof almost 100%. They communicated very well for setting up the appointment, payment, and coming out to do the work in the scheduled day. They even accommodated me for a requested appointment time of the day. Will definitely consider again when a new roof and their higher quality vinyl siding/sheathing is needed! read more

We called William C Rott after receiving a mailer that showed a nice picture of a recently sided house in the neighborhood. I had to book our estimate out a couple weeks, as the person scheduling us said that "both homeowners MUST be present" so we had to work around two schedules and make sure we were going to home that day. I explained to the woman that we weren't sure what kind or color of siding we wanted, and she reassured us that Dan Rott would be bringing books and examples of our choices so we should not worry about not being quite sure what we wanted, which I liked. I also had several particular questions about some ornate wood molding our old home has, which I would like to preserve and not cover up. Fast forward to the day before our scheduled appointment, Dan leaves me a voicemail saying he was at the house (we were not home) because his schedule was too full the next day, (when our appointment was scheduled for), and that he would measure and I was to call him. I was annoyed, as that did not allow me to look at options or ask about my concerns, which I had identified that I needed when I made the appointment. I called him back and tried to ask him about my concerns, and possible options but it was impossible to sort it all out over the phone. He mentioned some ideas and then said he would call me back with an estimate of a few options. I have yet to get a call back and that was on April 17th. I called Dan and left him a voicemail reminding him last week, but I still haven't heard anything. At this time William C Rott has lost a huge job - siding my entire home and two car garage - and I cannot recommend them to anyone due to poor customer service. I'm very disappointed. My father-in-law recently requested a bid for a new roof. He lives in a ranch, the roof has architectural cedar shingles. The salesperson quoted $72k for a replacement roof. This was 2x the proposal he received from other roofing contractors. The salesperson did not provide a written bid and wanted one-third down that day. Fortunately, my father-in-law thought better. I would never suggest using this roofing company. 1st I had an appointment, had a friend here, waited well over 3 hours, no call no show. Then I rescheduled told I would get a call in the morning about who was coming. Didn't get the call but when I called did get an apology. But by waiting for that call I missed a Zoom meeting! Then appointment time and I get a call, didn't put zip code in his GPS and was in North Buffalo with a similar street name, not spelled the same way, vs Town of Tonawanda. I thought this would be better since they were sending out Dan Rott. He only looked at 2/5 of my roof from the yard, suggested we do the other 3/5. He never got on the roof, OR up a ladder to view it!! He kept telling me about how much experience he had. He did suggest some improvements, but way above what I could possibly afford, and would still need to do the other soon. You have heard the 3 strikes - you're out, even if I had the money, how can you not even visualize the roof section they are suggesting to replace?!? I wonder if a man has been here if they would dare give a price without visually looking at the roof... I am truly disgusted, my suggestion is don't waste your time. One positive, Donna does a wonderful job trying to gain your confidence, great at her job. Too bad she has a job where she has to continue covering their rear ends. We had to unexpectedly replace our roof two years ago after a windstorm caused significant damage to the original (13 year old!) roof. To be honest, I did not look around at multiple bids; perhaps I could have found a lower price. I went with Rott because we had a great experience with them on prior repairs (the old roof was nothing but trouble) and installation of a new front door module. The team showed up when they said they would show up and cleaned up after themselves. Two years later, the roof is holding up great. We live in a very exposed area and have had several bad windstorms this winter, and we have not lost a single shingle. (Most of our neighbors have lost shingles.) We have had two small issues (the metal facing on the fascia came loose and the rubber underlay came untacked on a dormer), and both times Rott promptly came out and fixed the issues without charge. We have been very happy with the original quality of workmanship and professionalism and I am equally pleased that they stand behind the work they do for the long haul. read more

I would be careful with these guys; had a small leak right around the flashing of the furnace flue pipe. Told the guy that came out to provide an estimate that I really thought it would be a quick repair, as the roof was not that old. He thought otherwise (with absolutely no visibility of the roof whatsoever -- not sure why he even had to come out if he was not going get on a ladder to look first!). He then told me that in order to correct the "problem" they would need to replace a 7' circle of shingles. Estimate was $1,091. I politely sent him on his way, found another insured roofing company that came over, actually went up the ladder with a bucket of roofing tar, fixed the problem and simply said, "no charge, easy fix, just call me next time you need a roof". Update. The afternoon I was having trouble with my new roof the owner came to my house to inspect the problem. I could tell he came straight to my house after picking up his kids from school. He was shocked to see the roof and apologized for our troubles. He had people here the next day to cover the area until it could be reroofed. He said he would redo the whole roof if need be. As soon as the weather cleared the team was back to redo what was needed. I could tell the owner took the issue very seriously and this seemed to be a one off problem caused by a now former employee. He told us he had had an employee meeting with all workers to figure out what had gone wrong and how to prevent it in the future. We were pleasantly surprised to see an owner make no excuses and stand behind his word. It's nice in this day and age to have resolution from the top of the company. I will recommend them. read more

Quality of work has gone down the past few years. We've had work left partially finished or finished poorly. We've been told people would be out on a certain date & they've been a no show (with no phone call). I would hesitate to use them unless they were the lowest estimate & you are willing to wait & not accept shoddy work. read more

We've used Wm. C. Rott twice for home improvements. First time was to fix a leaky chimney and the second was to replace our front door. Both times they did great work. Dan Rott was able to give us competitive estimates that matched what we needed. Both times Rob did the work and did an outstanding job, even replacing a doorbell switch that he could have left. Overall they are very professional, polite, and honest. My only complaint is that since our jobs were on the smaller side we were low priority to get scheduled. read more

My husband called for roof inspection special advertised on local radio. That was several months ago. Last week he called and was told he would be contacted this week. Still nothing. Our home was built 9 years ago so we just wanted to make sure all was good, but seems an easy job like this was too small, and they cant handle the volume they got for the spcial offer. Very disappointed, buyer beware. I hesitated to leave a review, but after getting other quotes on my job I thought this to be necessary and my civic duty. The estimator came in response to my request for a quote for roof repair. He told me that repair was not only not recommended, it was impossible. He then proceeded to quote me a re-roof price over 4 times higher than the next highest quote I had, asked me my "budget" (which I refused) and then told me another quote where if it was the best case scenario, and I signed off on any warrantee, they could do for 3 times higher than my next highest quote. I understand there may be a few thousand dollar discrepancy between these kind of quotes, but 3-4 times higher wreaks of price gouging in the midst of a global pandemic. I am afraid for the elderly and vulnerable being prayed on by these charlatans. He told me of their great warrantee, but I could have a tear off and re-roof 4 times and still save money! None of other quotes I received called my repair "impossible" and one recomended it as a short term solution in troubled times. The soothing commercials got me to call, but the quote left me with a very bad experience. read more

The salesman came over to provide an estimate for a total tear off and replacement of my roof. The salesman was not personable at all. The price for the job was about $13,000 more than the other 4 estimates that I have from other reputable roofing companies in the area. They also charge a $75 fee to leave a paper copy of the estimate. Not sure what the deal is with this company. read more

They came out to look at my roof on October 3rd and said that I would receive a call back by the 6th or 7th. No call at all that week. I called them a few times and was told someone would call and still no call. I am now scrambling to find someone to replace my roof before the snow falls. If they didn't want to do the job they should have told me 17 days ago. I am hoping that I won't have a problem getting someone else to take my money. read more

This company is inconsiderate to the surrounding neighbors. They blocked off our driveway to complete or neighbors driveway. When approached we were told they would be done within an hour (took four hours to be accessible). Employees left garbage, tools and coffee mugs on our property. To top it off, when "cleaning up" they blew all the dust onto our house and left it right outside our door. If you choose to use them on a city house, warn your neighbors of disturbance. read more

I have used William C Rott & Son for removing the ice dams this past winter and most recently with a new roof. Even thou the work was good, there is major lack of communication; making the projects very frustrating!! Because of the lack of communication, the crews had to come out twice to do the ice dams. I had to call multiple times to get an answer for both the ice dams and my roof, and was told something different with each call. When the gutters were put back on after the roof was completed, no one called or left note stating it was finished. They left the old gutter and a piece of siding in my yard, letting me to believe the job still needed to be done....again with the lack of communication, come to find out the job was finished...no note no call. read more
