They had really good quality pads, and knocked the prices down for us, almost unasked. (The eldest winced a bit when he heard the cost, so they discounted them, sharply.) Bikes (Lots of BMX), snow boards, Skates, and accessories. They had most everything I was looking for, and a stop at the hardware store rounded it out. The youngest noticed the trophies behind the counter, and said "That's a lot of trophies!" to which the (owner? Perhaps?) said "Well, we win a lot." Good times. : )

We drove up to Massachusetts to rent a snowboard for my daughter. Unfortunately, the place we…read moreoriginally planned to visit was closed due to the the big E. However, we found another store nearby and decided to check it out. They were having a sale and were offering discounts on last year's products. We spoke with a gentleman on the second floor who helped us find the right snowboard, bindings, and boots while staying within our budget. We were able to walk away with everything we needed at a reasonable price, and my daughter is very happy with her new gear!

They really listened to what the problem was and helped me solve it. I haven't gone skiing since so can't say how helpful it really was, but I have high hopes! We've also taken our skis here at the beginning of the seasoning for waxing, and they're very reasonable in price.

We were five teachers who came to western Mass hoping for one last summer adventure and we were not…read moredisappointed! After a lot of research, we settled on Great Outdoors and they exceeded our expectations: friendly upon arrival, informative, honest about river rules, accommodating, and affordable. It was $30 per person which included parking, a life jacket, a single tube your choice (pink or blue), and their shuttle service to the drop off spot. Because the shuttles run frequently, Great Outdoors even transported our picnic coolers back to their base for safe keeping before we put in. They also have a lockbox for car keys. Our whole experience on the river was approximately 3.5 hours but that's because we started tubing shortly after the water was released, therefore the beginning was a slow start of rock tetris maneuvering. If you want an "easier" start, I would recommend going in at the time Great Outdoors suggests. We just wanted to be on the water for longer and wanted to avoid the mass crowds of launching. Halfway through our ride, the crowds finally caught up and new tubing friendships formed because of bumper boating moments, all par for the course :)

When we asked the lady in charge working there what caused the turnpike policy change she said "Too many large families staying there all day, speaking other languages and being too loud." Clearly referring to the latino and black families I typically see out having a chill and relaxing weekend day on the river, like everyone else. That's messed up racist crap. They aren't the reason the parking got restricted, it's dumb litterbugs floating down the river leaving cans of white claw floating for the rest of us to pick up. I don't know if her views reflect the rest of the staff at Great Outdoors, but we won't be going there anymore.

The young woman working here was attentive, friendly, and helpful. She did not pressure me into buying anything, yet she let me know that she was there to help if I needed it. She was a good listener and was able to show me several boot options that fit my criteria. There was another woman shopping in the store, and the employee did a great job of helping both of us simultaneously without getting overwhelmed or neglecting either customer. After I chose a pair of boots, she offered to take them outside and spray them down with extra waterproofing sealant, free of charge. I am very impressed with the level of care given to customers at this store. I ended up with a pair of Rieker boots that I am extremely happy with. Warm, insulated, breathable, comfortable, waterproof, sturdy. I know these boots will hold up for several winters. I could not recommend this store enough. *Note: to those who have given this store bad reviews due to poor service during a sidewalk sale, I would offer the idea that the Northampton sidewalk sales are extremely overcrowded and chaotic. I cannot imagine any store offering their normal level of customer service during one of these madhouse shopping events. You are much better off visiting this store during a normal, quiet business day.
