Delicious! Came twice during a visit. The fish burgers were all great, but that tuna takes the cake! Had some wasabi-tasting mayo that gave it just the right amount of kick. Tender, juicy, and not overpowered by the other ingredients in the burger. Also tried the cod club sandwich, which was fried cod, shrimp, bacon, avocado, and some generic burger toppings. The cod was so tasty but the shrimp weren't taste able and their texture was even lost in the crunch of the cod batter. Bummer! Bacon was evident here and there. This place is underrated! This is my second time here. Compared to the Tacofino truck, this place didn't have a line up when I came while our friends waited forever for their tacos at Tacofino. This was a darn good burger in a cute locale on the outskirts of Tofino. It came with some pretty tasty fries, too. And if you're still hungry for dessert, there's a gelato place steps away, and you get a discount if you've eaten at Wildside Grill. While we waited for our burgers to be cooked, we walked around in the surf shop across the way. I looked up this place before we came so I was quite excited to eat here based on the reviews and beautiful pictures. The menu I looked at on their website is slightly different than the one they currently use at the store front. The options are plenty so something for all taste buds. The prices are average for Tofino area. If you are just visiting you might find it pricey. Truthfully for the serving you receive and the fact that it is quality items being sold it's worth the money . They even catch some of their own seafood , which is awesome . The food is plentiful you get these homecut fries cooked to perfection with a nice crunch just how I like it. I usually have to ask for my fries to be cooked to crisp but this place knows how to cook a great French fry :) I ordered the cod since the halibut was out of season. The cod was Panko crusted double diped and crunchy on the outside. Nice moist flakey inside which came w homemade tartar sauce (2 servings per order). The fish itself could hve used some flavour/seasoning but it wasn't too bland. Plus the tartar dip really kicked it up a notch. Others at my table got the beef burger and chicken burger ...which they also really enjoyed and chowed dwn before I could snap.a decent picture lol Customer service here is ok ..you only order your food once you receive it you sit down and fend for yourself . It's like a walk up window and benches under a lil hut. Or you can get it to go. My interaction was fine with the girl that took my order but no smile or anything special there. Went twice in two days, both for dinner. Had tacos both nights. First, we did grilled haddock and the carnitas. The haddock was tasty, and my sense is that the tempura batter that is used for the fried version is tasty as well. My partner's gluten free diet means I don't indulge when we share. In any case, the carnitas were a messy, tangy, but somewhat too sweet delight. The grilled salmon tacos were good as well on the second night. The corn shells were fresh, as was the plentiful salsa. To the British family that was waxing philosophical about the cod--gawd help you. In all your dithering about whether you should do cod and chips or something else, you ended up spending $13 more than you needed to. Instead of ordering two single portions, just get a double portion for a few dollars more and split the awesome fries, which are plentiful. My point--portions are generous and forget pondering the virtue of cod--you're at a friggin outdoor grill. Live a bit and just enjoy how they make a boring whitefish come to life on your dull British palate! read more

I had a beef burger with fries to go. One order ahead of me so I had about a 15 minute wait. They didn't bother to ask if I'd like bacon or cheese, but asked the next person in line. I brought the meal home and it was ok. Typical burger, big bun with large thin patty doused with mayo and a smoked tomato pickle relish. Would have been better with bacon and cheese. My only complaint was the dog-poo landmines strewn about around the outdoor sitting area. Perhaps this was the reason why all the locals were wearing rubber boots. Small stand about 2 km outside of Tofino in a small cluster of shops that include a surf shop, grocery, chocolate shop. If heading north to Tofino, it will be on your right. The actual shop is off the road, so look for the Wildside Grill sign and a red surfboard sign for the surf shop. Not sure why some of the best food comes not in fancy restaurants, and this is no exception. In three days in town, we ate here twice. The scallop burger was awesome and loaded with fixins (onions, onion rings, tomatos, lettuce, sauce, etc). The carnitas were delicious as well. Had the wonton soup per previous recommendation and this was full of vegetables, shrimp, noodles, and wonton. This was different than Chinese wonton soup, but a good version with seafood flair. My only regret is that I was not able to try all the different soups, fish, and sandwiches. Next time! read more

Nice shack with an impressive menu and friendly staff. We shared the 2-piece salmon Fish n Chips, which was plenty of food for 2 people. The fries were great! They had a good seasoning that wasn't too strong or salty. The fillets of fish were sizeable, well cooked, and had a good crunchy batter; they weren't the most flavourful, but I'd still get it again. The coleslaw was pleasantly sweet/tangy. Note that the menu (and prices) on their website is outdated: some of the items have changed or been removed, and the actual prices are about $2 more than listed on the site. read more

This place is so cool and the staff is really friendly. I can't remember exactly what I ate here, but it was some sort of vegetarian wrap and I had sweet potato fries as well. Delicious fish tacos! It was pouring rain and we were drenched! Our spirits were kept high the moment we ate our fish tacos! Excellent balance between guacamole, salsa, chipotle mayo and (of course) fish! The only downside is that the tacos are too small and my appetite too big! My sister and I told the cook to grill the chocolate chip hazelnut oatmeal cookie. He did and neither one of us have any regrets! Wildside is barely more than a food truck with picnic tables, although there is one covered area if it happens to be raining. You order at a counter and wait a bit, since the food is cooked to order. If you are looking for fish and chips, crab cakes, or a burger, possibly to eat at the beach, Wildside will do just fine. Portions are large but prices are high, like everything in Tofino. If you are not looking for fancy sit-down, this is probably the best place to go in the area. read more

Whoa...lots of 5 stars here...don't know if I can second that. We arrived in Tofino on the Tofino Bus on a very rainy and...dreary...Sunday afternoon. After spending some time on Cox Bay Beach, we started walking. Walking in search of food. Our hotel didn't have a restaurant and we hadn't yet figured out that an excellent restaurant was just next door (darn Yelp!....I checked my Yelp! app and was directed to a Taco place down the road as the closest place to get food...but we never found it). We walked 2 miles and, rounding a bend we swore would be the last before we turned back, found the Wildside Grill. It was a very unassuming place tucked in a corner, one of four businesses open (of at least 8 in this business park) when we arrived at 6 PM on a Sunday. It was raining and there was little shelter from the storm. It seemed most of the other customers to the Grill arrived in cars, understandable considering the season and the weather. We ordered Fish Tacos and Salmon & Chips. The food was prepared fresh, that was good. We sat in the covered, outdoor seating area, awaiting our food. We were soaked and warm from the walk, but cooling quickly with no hope for getting warm or truly dry. Some sort of protected or indoor seating, particularly in Winter, would have been nice. The food came after a reasonable time for cooking. It was hot and fresh. The tacos were quite good. Devoured quickly with little left-over. The Salmon & Chips were good, too. The fish was better than the chips. Very nice sized pieces of Salmon, though the breadcrumb crust seemed a bit too much for the fish. The fries were...meh...I've had better. All in all, I appreciate the "fresh and local" message of this restaurant. The food was good, it just didn't knock my socks off. Some sort of protected outdoor seating would have been appreciated (we weren't the only folks to be hudled under the sparse cover, devouring out meals). This is a walk up food truck type establishment. We are vegetarian and this establishment specializes in seafood. Hubbie got the bean and cheese tacos and I had the veggie sandwich. The kids had sides of rice and beans which they did not like. They get three stars from me because our food was just ok. I also felt that they should have signs asking patrons to pick up food spilled on the tables; that would do wonders at reducing the crow annoyance. I also think they should have a covered bin for recycling which would help keep the flies and bees away. I believe this place will always do great business because it is right next to a large surf shop and it is inexpensive. Obviously we gotta try it out, so as I order I show them the reviews on my iphone and they are so excited. It was hilarious as they had no idea they were appreciated so much. The menu was very diverse and we had a hard time deciding, but as we've arrived from the prairies we have to go with the salmon burger. We can't even get one of those back home. Talk about mouth-watering delicious. It was prepared on a wholewheat bun with lettuce and tomato and some sort of avocado-corn salsa, and it all had a slight smokey flavor. Yummy! I hear the fish tacos are to die for, but our group of three was tempted by other offerings. I got the fried oyster burger, and my companions got the tuna burger, and cod and chips. There was a little mishap before we got to stuff our faces. They call your name out when your order is ready, and you grab your food from the counter. Unfortunately, someone else took our order thinking it was theirs. The staff was extremely apologetic and remade our order at once, even throwing in a can of San Pellegrino for free as an apology. I really appreciated their service. Once that was done, I dove right into my food, which was a pile of fried deliciousness. The oysters were fresh and not overdone, which was a real highlight. Wildside Grill is by no means a fancy place. It's one of the cheapest meals available in Tofino, and you eat in what's essentially a glorified shack. No offense, but I wasn't expecting much when I came up to this small seafood shack. Turns out the bacon oyster po'boy was the BEST thing I ate the whole trip. The oysters were huge and sweet and perfectly cooked (not over and not rawish). The crunchy bacon just gave it an extra edge. A huge oyster sandwich with more fries than I can eat set me back $14.00. We got: veggie ciabatta and fries, veggie burger and fries, pulled pork poutine and REGULAR POUTINE. The fries were heavy, mealy, and thick. The burger was OK but not that good. The ciabatta was pretty grate. The pulled pork poutine was plain, bland, boring and didn't have the the BBQ flavour you would expect. Would not recommend. read more

We make a pilgrimage to Tofino once or twice a year and it would not be complete without a trip to Wildside Grill. This place has a great selection of burgers, tacos, fish and chips etc. Portions are generous and we are positively stuffed after eating a burger and fries. Some recommendations: Call ahead to order so you don't have to stand out in the rain waiting. If you are order fish taco's (or even have your heart set on a particular item) CALL AHEAD to ensure that they have it in stock. Ingredients are kept fresh by buying only what they need that day so check to see that they haven't had a run on your favorite item to avoid disappointment. Cute little place in a gravel parking lot amongst a few other good businesses. Service was quick and we grabbed a seat at a picnic table. The stand outs in what we ordered were def the poutine and the chowder. Fries and gravy were so good. The chowder was absolutely delicious, probably one of the best chowders I've ever had. I love dill so that was the perfect addition to the chowder. The combo of seafood, potatoes and veggies struck the perfect balance. Honestly I'm still dreaming about this chowder.
