Riptide Lagoon is located by a long road of seaside resorts, a little bit separated from the main downtown area of Parksville. We walked here from our hotel, and found it to be a pleasant and easy walk, but there's also parking available. When we visited both courses were very quiet, and it was nice to be able to play both 18-round holes without bumping elbows or waiting. The park is welcoming, and very well maintained, with attractive holes. I found the course here to be a little more technically challenging than some others I've played, which made it fun and interesting. It's a really solid place to have a good time, and I would definitely return on another visit.

Stopped by here for a game of mini golf over the weekend and had an absolute blast! There are two…read moredifferent 18 hole courses, so we asked the attendant which one he thought was better. He said the one around the lagoon was better because the course itself goes around the water and he felt it gave a better view while playing. There were 5 of us, and we took our sweet time playing since it wasn't very busy. I'm not sure if this is one of those hidden gem courses or not, because we tried Paradise Mini Golf earlier and it was absolutely packed. The views were great and there's a good amount of shade to hide from the scorching sun. The only negative I have for this course would be the green pitch tends to dip downwards towards the edge of each hole. This ends up causing a lot of balls to just ride and sit right up against the wall, so it makes it hard to putt when you have nothing but the top of the ball to hit. We'll be back to try the other course next time.

I had a blast on their thrill rides such as the OG wooden roller coaster which was built way before we were born in 1958...yup, its age does add an extra rocky and spooky element when you are on this ride. Their mini golf course was cute and with enough challenging designs for family fun. Hole in one at hole 16 and 17 was a thoughtful and encouraging design too. Paid parking available and free street parking is possible if you park further away. Staff is overall quite friendly. Vendor foods' costs are of course usually higher at an amusement park but hot dogs, burgers, pizza, donuts and cotton candy are the standard food options at an amusement park. Tips: Recommend to visit on a less sunny or even cloudy day to avoid the heat while in lineup. Do bring a hat or sunscreen on sunny days and stay hydrated. Look for online promotion when buying admission tickets for better value and please don't compare Playland to Disneyland. I chose to visit Playland when PNE is not open for less crowds and spent about half a day there. Put your hands up on the rides and scream for a good time :)

I love their summer fairs, but…read morethis time I thought their food selection was not as good as last years. :: Pig racing - they had their petting zoo open which had many farm animals and a pig race! We were so excited for the pig race, we dropped everything to make sure we make it. However, we were pretty disappointed... the race was for 20mins in total but we only got to see the pigs for probably 1min. They only did two races. The space was also very tight so it was hard for people to see, on top of that, there was no ventilation so it got very stuffy and hot. Considering this is a part of their summer fair, it would've been nice if they some water coolers or fans. :: Superdog show - hands down best part of the fair!! The show was for 30mins and we got to pet the dogs after which was amazing. The show itself was very humorous and had lots of fun elements. Now the food - :: The Tochi YVR flights were amazing, 5/5 would recommend (especially the coconut one) :: Slush Zone - we got their slushies from the Slush Zone which came in funky bottles that looked big but did not hold a lot of fluid. You had to pay $2 to refill them which was not too bad. :: Shrimp Basket from the Shrimp Basket stall, pretty good! The Shrimps were fried to perfection. I wish they had the foot long fries, they were my favourite at PNE!! Hope they bring them back next year.

Customer service was great - the smiles and courtesy seemed genuine. We were herded into a cramped space for a 10-minute "show" about Iceland. Initially I thought that was it - which would have been a bummer. Instead, we were then shuffled into a lineup for the flyover space. The attendants, smiling and courteous as ever, politely exhorted us into checking our seat belt buckles numerous times, which was slightly unnerving. Sure enough, once the real show began and the floor dropped away below our feet, I understood why they were so thorough. We took off and seemingly dipped and swirled through the skies over Iceland - it was quite lovely and spectacular, and realistic to the point where I eventually felt nauseated. Was it worth it? Yes. Would I do it again? Sure would. But next time I'll remember to take a ginger pill first:)

Everyone in the party gets the local discounts, too! It's been a while for me to do the Fly Over, and I must say it doesn't disappoint. Our family from out of town was so tired from walking around the city, and when we did the ride, they were WIDE awake. They truly enjoyed it and thought it was very well done. As for me, someone who has done it a few times before, I was still amazed by the quality of the ride. Definitely a MUST!
