There are restored family homestead log cabins down on the creek below the lodge which you don't see. They are all nice, clean, comfortable, cozy beds, trampolines for good exercise after being in the car, lots of room for the kids to run, the dogs, cats, and horses all love the attention, very friendly. The buffalo weren't brought back to the ranch yet because of the wolf activity and owner says wolves haven't bothered the horses too much, must prefer elk & buffalo meat over horse. Us too. It's a maintained mountain road with a stunning creek with lots of water/rock action that runs the whole way. Animals in the way at bottom of road, elk came in early morning to deal with their hidden babies, don't try to take one of these babies home, leave them alone for their mama to come back for them. I ordered the wild game chili which was DELICIOUS! The chili had some heat and came with jalapeño cornbread and maple mascarpone. I'm still thinking about this meal and want to know the recipe!! The others in my group ordered the Montana burger with bison, wild game chili and the Mac and Cheese. They were all very happy with their meals as well. It is in Emigrant a small town that boasts a great bakery and great BBQ in the warm season. To get to and from the Cabin you drive through the Chico Hot Springs Resort. In addition to hot springs Chico has a riding stable and adventure company for white water, scenic floats and hiking. This is nice if you don't want to drive to Gardiner some days. There is also a nice hike to a falls just up the road from the cabin. The cabin itself was excellent. We were there on some hot days and the cabin stayed cool if you closed the blinds as instructed. There was a full kitchen and while fussy cook husband might have wanted sharper knives for prep work he managed to make some fine meals. He also used the charcoal grill but the black flies were thick in the heat. Better him than me! Happily the long porch facing the stream is fully screened. No biting things there. The porch had a casual dining table and glider bench. The cabin had two bedrooms and one and a half baths. The half bath was in a utility room which included a washer and dryer. Priceless! There was also a comfy living room with two sofas and a glider chair. We never used the TV but it was there too. The cabin had wifi thankfully because there wasn't much cell reception. Basically it was a great place to get away, listen to the creek at night and relax.

We called management and they then disclosed that the owners friends decided to come to the home early and they couldn't kick them out due to the home already being rented. Management then said we had to find a new rental (this was literally upon arrival without telling us ahead of time). Like hell my friends and I were going to book another property through Ascend. We scrambled and found another home like I said previously "day of" that would accommodate us for our trip. Ascend ended up paying us back the money but they should have also paid for our new rental as it was appalling that we had to scramble to find new accommodations upon arriving at their trashed rental property that we were supposed to be staying in.

We stayed in the 2 bedroom, 1 bath "Creekside" cottage and I believe it was just $220/night! The super 8 motel down the street charges $250/room. There is a front and back porch. The food was great and the service across the board was exemplary. And needless to say the fishing experience was topline with super experienced guides David Kern and Isaac Corman. The true test of an experience, however, comes when one sees how management deals with an issue. Our issue was that the air conditioning broke and the first night the room was unbearably hot. They had an AC team come in and although they couldn't fix the unit while we were there, they had a portable unit installed to take care of the immediate issue. And more importantly, Manu, the manager, worked to reach an acceptable arrangement to cover our discomfort. Overall - I would definitely return and recommend for others to come see what they have to offer.

From the moment you walk in the door, the ranch rolls out the red carpet. After being welcomed with a cold draft beer and tour of the property, we settled into our very comfortable guest rooms to unwind before dinner. Whether you plan to fly fish or not, the entire ranch is designed to make you feel at ease, and at home -- from the incredible back porch views to the outrageously good dishes served up at every meal. Manu and her team take customer service to a new level, from equipping you for an incredible day on the river to selecting the perfect bottle of Cabernet to pair with your dinner. No detail is too small for them, and no request goes unmet. The accommodations are as comfortable as any 4-star hotel, the meals as delicious as any gourmet restaurant, and the views as beautiful as a slice of heaven. I simply can't say enough about Madison Valley Ranch -- whether you're an experienced fisherman or just learning to cast a fly, it's hard to imagine a better place in America to put your rod into the river.
