Made a point to stop here after our local friend suggested it. We checked out the Instagram page prior to coming to see what the flavors looked like and we were instantly intrigued by the unique combinations and good take on the classics. We walked up and there was a long line but it couldn't have taken longer than 5 mins to be served. The employees inside did a good job of moving people through while allowing the first person helped to try samples and find the right flavor. Once we picked our flavors we decided we both wanted to try two and got them in a waffle cone. I decided on a classic Oreo flavor with the second option of rhubarb crumble. The Oreo/white raven was simple, yet satisfying and was just a good classic. The rhubarb crumble was by far the better of the two though with big chunks of rhubarb and cookie type chunks. My favorite part was the waffle cone though that was crispy and sprinkled with cinnamon. Overall I thought the flavors were great! Greg also got the rhubarb crumble and had similar thoughts but wished the ice cream was a little more creamy and think and not as icy. He also got the brownie chunks/coffee flavor. We both tried this one and thought the coffee was very strong and espresso like and overtook the brownie chunks. Still, the choice was satisfying! I love me some ice cream so while I'm Alaska I had multiple recommendations to try Wild Scoops that featured local Alaskan flavor. Wild Scoops was delicious and I appreciate that they have GF and vegan options. I sampled a couple flavors and finally chose a chocolate brownie and a chocolate coconut ice cream. The vegan ice cream was very good and you could barely tell it was vegan. The chocolate brownie ice cream had giant chunks of gooey brownie that were soooo good. They let you split a single scoop into two flavors which is perfect! Also if you get a waffle cone it literally comes out fresh and warm. I went with a large group so I was able to sample a few other flavors and all of them were rich, creamy and good flavor coming through. Prices were good for the quality of the ice cream and the staff was very friendly. I really really wish Wild Scoops had at least some seating. After getting my ice cream I awkwardly had to go back and sit in the car. The space was too small to stay and stand and outside was very windy and cold. So just know if your getting ice cream you will likely need to eat it someplace else. It's a small space and there are only around 6 flavors to choose from, but they are all very good. It's definitely worth the stop, and my only regret is not getting the toasted marshmallow on top for a baked Alaska treat. read more

Do they sound pretty standard? No, right? Well! They weren't. Every first bite I had left me wondering, "What's this ingredient? What am I tasting?" Maybe that doesn't sound fun to you, but it sure is fun to me. Personally, when I went with the Sleeping Lady I was expecting a simple Earl Grey flavor with a hint of a fruity taste, but it's much more powerful than that! The black currant takes you for a spin, and the earl grey flavor tones it down for you to enjoy. Mint Brownie might sound basic, and it is, but if I'm correct.. The mint tasted very fresh, as if they had put actual mint leaves into the ice cream rather than artificial mint sweetener/flavoring. It was really lovely, especially for a mint lover like myself. Chocolate Meringue was an explosion of flavors I didn't really understand, but enjoyed. I honestly can't describe it to you. It's very unique and unlike anything I personally have ever tried. Sitka Swirl was sweet and rich, and which was nice to balance out the more extravagant flavors of Chaga Chocolate Meringue and Sleeping Lady. They let you try the flavors, thank goodness, because there is so many interesting ones and I'd hate to take a chance on something and not like it! Many of the flavors are sweet-cream based, which is my favorite base, but I don't recommend ordering two flavors with a sweet cream base because they will muddle together in your cone and taste the same. See: my friend William's amateur error. He ordered Sitka Swirl and the Birch flavor on top of one another, and he remarked both were good, but he "couldn't tell the difference." Rookie. I ordered the Sleeping Lady on a waffle cone. It was: AMAZING. The Earl Grey flavor really came through and the blackcurrant swirl is making me salivate right now, just remembering. Speaking of the cones: get one. They're more of a sugar-waffle hybrid (much more crispness to these) and they have cinnamon and anise and wow wow wow. And you know what? Cute tiny little spot downtown. The flavors are always changing. I walked in about 20 minutes after they opened. There was no line, but there were plenty of people in and out buying pints already at 11:30am. They let us taste almost every flavor before we actually decided. The staff was super nice and friendly. Very accommodating. When you first walk in they greet you with a smile and warm welcome. The whole shop smells like cookies!! When my son pointed that out, they showed us there was someone making fresh waffle cones! These aren't your normal run of the mill waffle cones. You can taste they make their own batter so it's really got a different crispy crunchy texture full of bubbles. It's super light. I think they put cinnamon and allspice in the batter or something. It's packed with flavor. As is the ice cream. It's made locally only 20 minutes from the shop. I chose the puppy chow, in a waffle cone, baked Alaska. That's the only way to do it for the first time! Baked Alaska is really amazing! It's a marshmallow fluff topping that's toasted with a blow torch right in front of you. I think it's safe to say my seven year old and I were equally excited. Lol. From start to finish it was a great experience. Dip your spoon down deep and get that amazing ice cream covered in toasted marshmallow fluff. Take a bite of that cone and get it all in there at once. It was like the best peanut butter chocolate s'more I'd ever had! Fair warning it's addictive and it's not exactly cheap. With tip, my son and I made it out with our cones for a teensy but under $20.
