Breakfast sandwiches were a given but I was struck by the adorable and enticing pastries and breads on display. There were a number of appealing contestants for my sandwich but the ubiquitous presence of my arch nemesis onions made it slightly challenging. We had spent the preceding few days in Cleveland and then Pittsburgh and while sauerkraut has a lot of nutritional benefits, it is somewhat lacking in protein so I felt comfortable with the "breakfast" with chickpea tofu egg scramble, roasted tomato mayo, vegan sausage and pickles on a nice, juicy bun. I admire the chickpea tofu egg it was a very nice replica for eggs. The sausage patty was gigantic and that mayo was so good. GF ordered the seitan melt with sauerkraut, red onion, oat cheese, pickles, toum, and roasted tomatoes. I tried some of the seitan which was doused in sauce and EXCELLENT. The goodness that comes from their ovens is beyond compare. The ingredients they use are things like oat milk, sunflower butter, and more. Everything is handmade on a daily basis. In addition to baked goods, they offer fresh salads and sandwiches on their in-house breads. I absolutely love the chocolate rugelach, chocolate chip cookies (best ever!), blueberry muffins, chocolate croissant, French batard bread, and sourdough bread. Normally you order online and then set a pickup time at his house on the weekend. I was fortunate to run into Mami's bakes at the Carnegie Farmer's market where he had a booth set up. I liked being able to see his collection of sweets in person. For the holidays he has created different "baked pies" that contain apples, pumpkin, pears, and tofu. All items are made without preservatives meaning you must consume them within 1-2 days or otherwise freeze them I had previously had his vegan brownie which was outstanding so this visit I purchased a chocolate chip pumpkin bread, a Cuban coffee cake, and two fried pies. Since my son is vegan I normally buy for him so he can enjoy these treats however, I got the pumpkin bread for myself. The pumpkin bread was sealed with a food sealer so when I got it home I dove into it. You can taste the chocolate chips in it and the bread is so soft and so moist that you would hardly know it was vegan. My son previously had one of Noel's buckeye brownies and a Chai cupcake. He thoroughly enjoyed them. In a city where there is little vegan places Mami's bakes certainly fills the bill here. Noel has been to Vegfest to promote his baked goods. I've been thoroughly pleased with my purchases up to now and am looking forward to seeing his Christmas offerings. Mami's bakes has an online ordering sit where you can place your food orders. She uses sweeteners such as agave nectar, erythritol, stevia, monkfruit, Whey Low, and sucralose. I do not have diabetes, but I am a nurse who believes that everyone, not just diabetics, should eat foods that are lower in sugar. Through a farmers market, I bought several foods from this business. Here are my opinions of these foods: Peri-Peri Chicken Wings with Lemon-Dill Aioli Dipping Sauce - I requested a spiciness level of mild, and it was truly mild. The chicken meat was very tender. Note that peri-peri chicken originated in Angola and Mozambique and was imported into Portugal, so these flavors were new and exciting to me. Sugar-free Jam Hand Pies - Despite being sugar-free, these strawberry-flavored handheld pies tasted very sweet. Each hand pie was a serving size for one person. Zesty Black Beans and Rice - The rice was cooked perfectly, and it came in such a large quantity that I had leftovers for my next meal. The black beans had a nice flavor, although they could have used more liquid. Orange-Olive Oil Mini Bundt Cakes - These mini bundt cakes were a good size for being mini. They were moist, and their orange flavor was very subtle. Sugar-free Peanut Butter Cookies - These cookies were large, moist, and tasted peanut-buttery and sweet. Sugar-free Iced Apple Fritters - My husband said that he really enjoyed these apple fritters. He is very picky about foods, so this feedback was a huge compliment!
